I like the idea that he probly had a legit Army uniform when he came back the first time to kill at the first grad dance But as the years went on he went incognito and scoured surplus stores for military gear since it was more or less his theme; which means his kit is more or less piecemeal military stuff he found after WWII since he couldn’t reliably find the post-war surplus uniforms, which meant he had to improvise with shit from Korea, Vietnam and so on
Here me out, a WW2 horror comedy action movie in which British and American Commandos have to team up with Romani Vampires to defeat Nazi Werewolves in Yugoslavia
Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that Tom Savini would get a mention here. Very cool! Tom is the absolute master when it comes to horror special effects.
Yeah, the ammo belt is an M1910 that's been overdyed to the dark OD green. The original tan "OD #3" was a greenish to plain outright khaki color and OD#7 is what people think of as army green. The gathers at the bottom of the pockets was designed to hold the cartridges in the stripper clips for the M1903 Springfield rifle solidly. The 8 round en-bloc clips did not require the gather to hold them steady, although WW2 production did continue to have a strap and snap to separate the two five round clips if the user happened to be issued an M1903 (and quite a few second line troops did). Later Korean war production did away with this as well, as the M1903 was completely withdrawn by then. Basically the prop department went to an Army Surplus store and bought stuff that looked right. I'm about 90% sure the zipper on the field jacket is a replacement, again likely by the prop department who got it cheap. It looks like many zippers used on commercial jackets around that time.
If you wanna know more about the film, Dead Meat has a video about it. They're pretty good with trivia BTS info about the films they go over. Also, suggestion for a future semi-fictional uniform to cover: John Smith's various uniforms from The Man in the High Castle
Excellent breakdown! I had not heard of this movie before. The pain of trying to ID the post-WWII OD uniforms and gear is real. Everyone was making copies of everything. Someone gave me a very thoughtful gift of a M1942 canteen, which I didn't have the heart to tell them was a post-war Japanese copy. You should consider doing a breakdown of the uniforms in the movie Children of Men some time. I've always thought the details (like the costumes) in that movie were more interesting than the movie itself.
Great video! I remember watching this movie when I was on a horror movie kick during high-school! This was only 15 years ago for me haha maybe Battle Royale 2 for the next entry?
The shotgun I believe is a Stevens 311. At 2:28 you can see faintly the 2 pins on the bottom right of the receiver which match up to a 311. Also at the same time, you can see a lug underneath the chamber/barrels that ends in a angled section sloping towards the breach which also lines up with a 311.
How am I expected to be immersed in a movie about a 1940's soldier wearing kit from the 1960's?!? It's like the costumer didn't even care. Hard pass from this military uniform nerd. 🧐 Jokes aside, I appreciate that you cover stuff like this--they're very fun!
I want to tell people in the comments about the 1980 horror movie "Maniac," where i want to know what the character frank zito jacket is? i think it's a B-15 jacket, but i don't know what the model is.
I had a thought when I was watching "The Prowler" kill count, done by Dead Meat, that a video would analyze The Prowler's "WW2" uniform. Thanks for making my thought a reality.
I had the same thought. They have similar plotlines, and oddly enough both were produced around the same time (Autumn of 1980). Both have a killer dressed in a uniform specific to their job, and use weapons related to their job. They're like Canadian-American movie twins. Haven't seen the Prowler yet, so I could be missing or exaggerating similarities.
>deep dive videos once every 3 or 4 months >new video dropped >well, it's probably going to be Halloween themed somehow, it won't be THAT bad >it's a fuckin movie episode 😑

And what would we name this movie?
Closest thing we got right now is Hellsing Abridged
idk, I always imagine nazis as vampires.
@@SkiddyBeef let me get back to you

Werewolves and wolves would be more in line with Germanic paganism
I love these videos when you explain fictional characters’ uniforms.
I never thought you would cover one of the best classica of horror movies.
Definitely an underappreciated gem.
The helmet cover with a built in veil / mosquito net is kinda clever.
Last Halloween I used this costume! It was fun having absolutely nobody recognize it.

Semi-fictional? Other than the odd bit of fictional stuff like the armband, I just assumed it was a bog-standard SS uniform.

I was hoping this guy actually existed in WWII and that this was some sort of real world history video.
He looks so damn badass compared to Jason or Ghostface or really any other slasher.
I was wondering about this. Indeed it was called Rosemary's Killer in Australia. It was a very popular hire in the early days of Video Stores

One of my favorite slashers from the era, it really doesn’t get enough attention. It would be interesting to see one done of The Funhouse.

Idea for the next Halloween entry: Trench 11 or Deathwatch, both WWI horror movies
love this movie, thank you covering this aspect of it.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to headcanon the Prowler bought some newer gear from a Military Surplus store to accompany his old 45-era uniform.
Dayum, UH just identified a piece of kit by its scrunch !
I did this as one of my childhood Halloween costumes
Awesome Video!
Hey UH, could you please do a video on the uniforms used in (2006) Children of Men?
I love this movie!

What was that movie with the campdire scene at the beginning?
i just had a thought the prowler when to war 1944 the youngest he could be is 18 that will make him 35 in 1980
Oh i love Tom Savini!
😮 impressive 👍
Cover more of these fictional uniforms!

Hah I remember having two math classes in one day and binging this movie out of boredom
Only found out about this movie because 'Dead Meat' did a kill count video on it.
Just like my bloody valentine

Not really a horror, more a thriller but British film "Dead mans shoes"
No one does it quite like you bud
Always wanted to know he wore
