My own great grandfather had a crazy stand "last stand" but wasn't his last. Fighting in WW2 on the Italian front he was the Bren gunner and was shot multiple times in the shoulder, legs and had one ear blown off. His ammo man ran away since his platoon was being overrun but he refused to leave as he was the cover fire that served as their last chance to stand ground and proceeded to load his own machine gun while laying down fire and eventually against all odds they managed to win the battle. Roy Benavidez was called a "dumb Mexican" as a child, for his mixed heritage, his father was a Mexican farmer and his mother was Yaqui, though they lived in DeWitte, Texas. The harassment led to Roy getting into many fights as a child. Some of the things left out of his stand; when the call came from the SOG team for help, Benavidez just jumped onto the helicopter without thinking. All he brought with him was a Bowie knife and a first aid kit. A NVA Regular clubbed Roy in the back of the head and stabbed him with a bayonet. In their struggle, Roy produced his Bowie knife and stabbed his enemy in the head. He used so much force that the knife was stuck and couldn't be removed. So, he left it there. Of his many wounds, it included his intestines hanging out of his body. He fought with one hand holding them in. The team he went in to rescue were given all the medical attention they could, under Benavidez's direction. When asked if he was seriously hurt, Benavidez spat, "Hell, no, "I've been hit so many times I don't give a damn no more." When it came time for extraction, two NVA Regulars charged the helicopter from an angle where the door gunners couldn't bring their M60s to bear. Roy picked up a discarded AK-47 and gunned them both down. In the end, Benavidez did not get the Medal of Honor. Instead he got the lower Distinguished Service Cross. His friends clambered to correct this, Congress declared too much time passed from the event, and that needed eyewitnesses to his actions. In 1980, Benavidez's radioman, Brian O'Conner, vacationing in Australia, saw a news report on TV about Benavidez. @Randomperson-yr3gp yup. Hacksaw Ridge. His story is even more insane, than the movie, btw. Movie was condensed and had to either merge different things into one or just didn't include some. I don't remember, if movie showed, how he had massive rope burns on his hands because he manually lowered dozen wounded soldiers from the cliff they were on in the basket, while being heavily wounded himself. Roy Benavides was originally denied the MoH several times. This was because in the submission they stated that his actions took place in Laos. Roy Benavides also forgot to grab his gun when he hopped on the helicopter. He realized on the way there and had to pick up an NVA weapon. Dude is the main character
One thing about roy’s story, the mine he stepped on was defective. The top of the mine, instead of fragmenting like a mine normally would, detached as a whole piece and smacked roy straight in the ass. It broke multiple vertebrae and concussed him so badly he for a time lost the ability to perform basic tasks. On top of him pushing himself to walk again. This man walked off a sonic boot to his ass

Here's another good story: In 1941 a Soviet cook was waiting for his tank platoon to return but then a group of german panzers arrived. All but one tank kept driving and when he saw the tank he grabbed an axe and starting charging toward the tank. When it started firing it's machine gun he dodged the gunfire and lept on the tank were he then threw a tarp on the top of the tank and another over the co drivers vison port and his apron over the drivers port. Then he started chopping the machine gun until it broke. He then shouted in different pitches to decive the germans leading them to surrender. When they got out, he captured them.
10:40 fun fact he tried to kill his master twice before they became friends he had killed 999 samurai’s and planned for his master to be his 1000th (he had it out for them for some reason)
I believe the legend goes that he wanted to prove he himself was a great samurai. The many other Samurai lords had 1000 somethings. Like 1000 horses, 1000 castles, 1000 servants, 1000 wives and so on. So he wanted to have 1000 swords. To do that he dueled many other samurai to take their swords.
One of my favorite last stands in history was Blackbeard's last stand. Dude was a one man army. After boarding an enemy ship (specifically, one disguised as a trading vessel but filled with soldiers), Blackbeard and his men were outnumbered and outgunned. Yet they drew their weapons and threw hands. Blackbeard got in a 1v1 with the commanding officer, and SHATTERED HIS SWORD with a SINGLE STRIKE OF HIS CUTLASS. He was about to land the finishing blow when someone stabbed him from behind. This, of course, only angered Blackbeard. He killed the guy behind him and kept fighting. He suffered *25* wounds, 5 of which were gunshots, before finally keeling over.
let us not forget Ben Salomon he was a soldier during ww2 on the japanese front at the mariana island. long story short he was tending to his patients when a banzai charge happened, he fought off multiple japanese soldiers who were stabbing his patients. he hopped on a machine gun to cover the retreat of everyone in the medical tent. he was found days later with 24 gunshot wounds and mutilated with bayonets stabs. surrounding the machinegun was 98 dead japanese soldiers. edit: spelling, read your comments before posting them everyone.

0:28 Outsiders take the Cartel problem as similar if not the same as the Gang problem, when its not. The Cartels are part of the organized crime, little armies on their own right, military gear [imported by illegal US dealers], military structure and some even with rodumentary tanks. Los Zetas were some of THE FIRST to become militarized, like in the photo shown, the Cartels, specially the big ones like the CDS (Cartel de Sinaloa [Cartel of Sinaloa]) and CJNG (Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion [New Generation of the Cartel of Jalisco]) are not to be taken as a gang problem, but as a great threat to national security and a massive part of the war on drugs.
the current corruption in mexico is what people think the mob was but forreal and even deadlier. however they are closer to gangs as far as understanding the loyalty that keeps them operating . crime is bred under the same conditions, desperate people, who have mouths to feed, which eventually becomes greed. the systems of corruption can be connected back to spaniards decimating the population and those who survived, inter bred, forced to assimilate, or were corrupt leaders or people who would give goods or intel to colonizers. it’s an ugly system
I don’t think anyone is making honest comparisons, Americas “gang” problem hasn’t been a real thing since the Italian Americans ran organized crime. Gang activity in the US and Mexico is a joke and nobody is concerned with them killing themselves on the streets compared to cartels that cause actual problems and hurt innocent people
los zetas were a Mexican military unit trained by the US special forces before being hired as hit men and eventually becoming a cartel of their own. So some of these cartels are not only militarized, but trained by the best military in the hemisphere. Over time, they’ve broken down and mostly operate as smaller groups these days.
Benkei was actually nuts, he was traveling trying to defeat 1000 men and get their swords. He had 999 swords and his 1000th opponent was Yoshitsune who managed to defeat Benkei, which made him mad for a rematch, which he lost again, then swore loyalty.

In Switzerland there was also an epic last stand (according to legend) by a Swiss soldier called Arnold von Winkelried. In 1386, the Swiss fought a battle against the Austrians (Battle of Sempach) but could not break through the lines. Von Winkelried decided to open up the Austrian line, charging toward the Austrians by himself and grabbing their lances, impaling himself and taking some down when his body fell to the ground. This opened a small gap, which allowed the Swiss to successfully break up the Austrian line and eventually win the battle.
@ the Austrians outnumbered the Swiss. About 4:1 ((the Austrians had about 4k men (1.5k knight, about the same amount as the entire Swiss army). They lost cause the Swiss had the better position and because the Austrian knights had to dismount, effectively rendering them pretty useless.
@ Is rhat why the Swiss were long considered the best soldiers in Europe? They defeated Austria in every war they fought with each other (decisively). The Swiss invented a weapon for exactly the purpose to deal with knights, so even on horse they could defeat them. So come again with “the Austrians were better soldiers” 😂

Great video. In terms of actual people, these are some of the best examples for sure, but in terms of larger scale battles, it's really hard to think of many good ones. I mean, the 300 Spartans is always a perfect example, but definitely overdone. So I will take a moment to waffle about a battle that To me, is the finest example of ''the last stand of a battle that decides the fate between life and complete annihilation'' - Battle of Sardarabad, between Armenia and the Ottoman Empire, in 1918. The details and background are extremely complicated and messy, as this is the Caucasus we're talking about, but basically, Russia had collapsed, Caucasus states regained independence as of the Brest-Litovsk treaty, and the Ottoman Empire was going absolute ham on the young Caucasian nations, which included Armenia, which the Ottomans aimed to erase from the face of earth (as dictated by the Armenian genocide). The nation was practically encircled and the Ottomans were at the doorstep of the capital. Here, the last remaining, outnumbered 10-35 Armenian soldiers, heavily backed by the civilians fleeing the genocide, orchestrated a last ditch effort to save the nation, near the village of Sardarabad. It was practically all or nothing, had the Ottomans won the battle, there would be nothing between them and Yerevan. Whilst initially on the losing end, they managed to retaliate, inflict heavy losses and drive the bastards back as far as the occupied city of Alexandropol. At the end of the battle and the subsequent ones like the battle of Karakilisa, the morale of the far larger and more powerful Ottoman Empire had been so utterly annihilated, that they decided to negotiate peace with the people they wanted to exterminate for good. Really fascinating battle that literally nobody knows about, it's a pity, really.

At the time, the US still denied having done any operations in Laos. Once they changed the report to just say "West of Loc Binh" he was awarded the medal almost immediately.
This is perfect depiction of human adrenaline. It quite literally ignores every pain and everything else just to keep you alive.

Hardest kick in the ass ever.

I think this video was summires but I could be wrong
Yeah dude turns out every history here it's more interesting than what he told
@Samuel-ll2kr obviously not but that’s the story
Here's another good story: In 1941 a Soviet cook was waiting for his tank platoon to return but then a group of german panzers arrived. All but one tank kept driving and when he saw the tank he grabbed an axe and starting charging toward the tank. When it started firing it's machine gun he dodged the gunfire and lept on the tank were he then threw a tarp on the top of the tank and another over the co drivers vison port and his apron over the drivers port. Then he started chopping the machine gun until it broke. He then shouted in different pitches to decive the germans leading them to surrender. When they got out, he captured them.
10:40 fun fact he tried to kill his master twice before they became friends he had killed 999 samurai’s and planned for his master to be his 1000th (he had it out for them for some reason)
i think the reason for it was something like that samurai was also in a group but his now master killed them all so the samurai had it out
I believe the legend goes that he wanted to prove he himself was a great samurai.
The many other Samurai lords had 1000 somethings. Like 1000 horses, 1000 castles, 1000 servants, 1000 wives and so on. So he wanted to have 1000 swords. To do that he dueled many other samurai to take their swords.
@Samuel-ll2kr buddy just look it up
@Samuel-ll2krI mean .. do you have a source for that? Seems like you just made that up

Let's not kid ourselves, the Cartels were funded by the US government. This has been going on for decades.
the current corruption in mexico is what people think the mob was but forreal and even deadlier. however they are closer to gangs as far as understanding the loyalty that keeps them operating . crime is bred under the same conditions, desperate people, who have mouths to feed, which eventually becomes greed. the systems of corruption can be connected back to spaniards decimating the population and those who survived, inter bred, forced to assimilate, or were corrupt leaders or people who would give goods or intel to colonizers. it’s an ugly system
I don’t think anyone is making honest comparisons, Americas “gang” problem hasn’t been a real thing since the Italian Americans ran organized crime. Gang activity in the US and Mexico is a joke and nobody is concerned with them killing themselves on the streets compared to cartels that cause actual problems and hurt innocent people
Good explanation
los zetas were a Mexican military unit trained by the US special forces before being hired as hit men and eventually becoming a cartel of their own.

This opened a small gap, which allowed the Swiss to successfully break up the Austrian line and eventually win the battle.
austria only lost that battle because they were outnumbered by the swiss
@ the Austrians outnumbered the Swiss. About 4:1 ((the Austrians had about 4k men (1.5k knight, about the same amount as the entire Swiss army). They lost cause the Swiss had the better position and because the Austrian knights had to dismount, effectively rendering them pretty useless.
@@Swissswoosher yea austrian soldiers were much better than swiss soldiers otherwise

Imagine all the other badass last stands we never heard of because all the witnesses didn’t get to live to tell the tale.
Crazy
