Alexander's Empire was conquered by him alone, many generals and sons and grandsons of Genghis Khan completed the conquest of the Mongol Empire. Also Alexander did it much earlier, in a less connected world, with less information and less military technology and mobility.

Imagine having a teacher like Aristotle, at his time probably considered a just a popular philosopher among many others, now one of the most important thinkers in our history.
Alexander can thank Aristotle for teaching him the Greek language and writing ... He can thank Aristotle for having educated him to think like a Greek. Here is what Pultarchus tells us on this subject (Life of Alexander, 51): - "And whereas all the others surrounded him and begged him, Alexander jumped, called with great cries in Macedonian... " (The Greek was distinguished by his language which alone constituted his greekship and his "nationality": was Greek that which spoke the Greek language! ) Alexander adopted the Greek culture...
@@Universal.. Nice try but it's not exactly the accurate historical and archaeological picture we have about ancient Macedonians, Epirots and other Greek tribes. Also your attempt to connect Illyrians with modern Albanians is ''at will'' since we don't have a single author, either Greek or Roman connecting those two in their works: Illyrians-Albanians. Therefore your motives are already suspicious. Unless, you better tell the people here how in hell you connect these, and why since there is zero literature material and zero evidence you make a case. Seriously? You should know also, if you had studied thoroughly the sources, that many ancient Greeks described as ''barbarians'' by certain Greek authors just because they lost all the criteria that characterized someone as Hellene in those days. In other words, they have been Greeks by blood but considered as ''barbarians''. Lastly there are tons of sources, which you avoid to post for your own reasons that debunk your ''conclusions'' and what you assume about certain topics (maybe you want to manipulate the viewers to a certain ''virtual'' historical truth) but have no relation with actual historiography.

Because of the tremendous successes Alexander achieved at such a young age, his failures also towered over the successes of other men....
Varun i can’t agree with Ptolemy, Alexander fell prey to the same failure as many men. He just didn’t know when to stop and smell the flowers. He had his war but did not recognize when it was time for peace. Of course hindsight is 20/20 eh
Varun: An excellent quote, Varun. It's hard to identify a failure in Alexander's life. In a military sense, he didn't have one - he won every battle that he fought in.
That's from a movie, not from a historical figure. Ptolemy's memoirs are sadly lost, but Arrian, the chief ancient source for the Alexander story probably had access to the work. Fun fact about Alexander's conquest of Tyre that doesn't get mentioned very often is that Tyre was an island city several hundred meters from the coast. When Alexander built his famous causeway during the siege, that causeway ended up becoming a peninsula that reconnected the island to the mainland that can be seen to this day. Alexander literally changed geography by taking that city.

Olympias, the mother of Alexander the Great. But who was this woman who is said to have astonished the Macedonian king with her beauty ? I will write based only on facts, that is, on the quotes of famous ancient authors, mainly Greek. ( For me there is one thing in history, which with the facts are not said ... ) According to Plutarch, Alexander was a descendant of Ajax through his father Neoptolemos and this is accepted without discussion. According to Justin, Philip married Olympias, daughter of Neoptolemos, king of the Molosses. All the authors thus agree on the fact that Alexander the Great was the grandson of a Molossian. For those who do not know this tribe (the Molossians), who were they, what territory did they occupy and how were they considered by the ancient authors ? Let us stop for a moment to know more about the tribe of the Molossians from which the mother of Alexander the Great came. To make it simple, the tribe of Molossians is in Epirus somewhere in the region of Chamerie on the back of Thesprotians who dominated the coastal part. In addition to this, the Kaons who were in the south of present-day Albania and who constituted three of the great tribes of Epirus. Historically, tribes like the Molossians or others who composed Epirus like the Kaons, the Thesprotians, the Paraue, the Antintans and others, are historically linked to the Illyrian (🇦🇱) culture or to a part of it. As Thucydides tells us about the events of the Peloponnesian War that involved both actually in reality Illyrians and Illyria itself, these tribes were commonly considered barbarian (non-Greek) tribes. Thucydides: - "Among the barbarians there were about 1,000 Kaons who ruled without a king. Along with the Kaons, the Thesprotians also participated and were also ruled without a king. There were also the MOLOSSIANS, the Atintants and the Paraues. ( HISTORY OF THE PELOPONNESIAN WAR ) All these tribes, mentioned by the historian of Athenian origin Thucydides for their participation in the famous Peloponnesian war in the 5th century B.C., are considered as barbarians, therefore not Greek! ( Thucydides II, 80- IV, 126 ) The Kaons, the Thesprotians of Chamerie, the Arintans and the Parauets constitute the backbone of what one called Epirus. Among them are of course the Molossians where are the roots of the family of the mother of Alexander the Great ! And Thucydides is not the only source which defines the Epirotes as non-Greeks. There are many others! According to the encyclopedia Basic Antiquity, composed of 86 volumes... Pauly Wissowa the Real "Encyclopedia Alterumswissenschaft" says that the Epirotes are of Illyrian origin 🇦🇱 and have strong links with the population of southern Italy! More concise on the issue, the only Nobel Prize in history 🎓 is none other than Theodor Mommsen author of the cycle "Corpus of Antiquity inscriptions" which says that: - "the brave Epirotes, the Albanians 🇦🇱 of antiquity supported with traditional loyalty the young and brave Pyrrhus or "the Eagle" as they called him " . Let us point out on this subject that the Albanians name themselves "Shqiptar", that is to say "sons or children of the eagle". The soldiers of Pyrrhus (3rd century BC / Epirote King), called their King "the Eagle" and that the latter retroqued them one day that they were his "children", so the Albanians are the children of the Eagle ... "Shqiptar = child of the Eagle .... " . (Pyrrhus was the cousin of Alexander the Great, of the Molossian tribe and himself an ambitious conqueror, Pyrrhus is one of the most formidable adversaries of the early days of ancient Rome). Lorenzo Braccesi (Professor of Greek History at the University of Venice, Italy, in 1986) tells us: - "Olympias was originally from Epirus, on the part of the father who was king of Epirus, on the part of the mother also and that Illyrian blood 🇦🇱 circulated in the family, there is no doubt. " ( 9,01- 9,15 . The true story of Alexander the great ... - Gjurmë Shqiptare ) That the Epirotes are or are not Illyrians is a discussion that, from an archaeological point of view, is resolved. The Epirotes and the Illyrians have the same culture, if we consider the Iron Age, the use of tombs, fortifications with several rows of walls, their material culture, the shape of the pots or the ornaments which are identical to those of Korça (current Albania) and religion. Not only ancient authors like Thucydides, Strabo and others have called the Epirotic tribes barbarians (non-Greek) but also later serious publications based on documents and archaeological findings point out the same thing. The Molosses, were one of the Illyrian tribes of Epirus from where came the mother of Alexander the Great Olympias daughter of the king and the sister . The Molosses, were one of the Illyrian tribes of Epirus from where came the mother of Alexander the Great Olympias daughter of the king and sister of another well known Illyrian prince "Alexander the Molossus". I believe that all or part of the strong character of Alexander comes exactly from his mother, from the house that also gave birth to Pyrrhus. The powerful role of women in Illyrian society has been documented by many authors, including those who today identify themselves as Greeks, such as Athenaeus and Theompope. Olympias' influence on her son Alexander was so great. She believed that her son had divine blood and that he was born to rule the greatest kingdom of all time. But the mother's family was not the only Illyrian family to which Alexander was affiliated, his link with the Illyrians was stronger than that!
The family of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. This last, according to the data, had a Macedonian father, but not his mother. She was called Eurydice and came from the tribe of "Lyncestides". Who was the grandmother on the side of the father of Alexander the Great? The mother of Philip is the daughter of the daughter Of Arrhabaeus, daughter of king Sirras, says Strabo. Plutarch is very detailed on this subject. He insists that although Eurydice is Illyrian (🇦🇱) and barbarian in every sense of the word, she was educated to help children. He says very clearly that she is Illyrian, and barbaric in every way. (Plutarch, De liberis educandis. p.69) Lyncestides from where came the mother of Philip II, were a tribe which extended not far from the lake of Ohrid, somewhere in the area of Manastir where the ruins of one of their most important cities are today. (Illyrian, no doubt. It is the last province that has a border with Macedonia) As for whether it was an Illyrian tribe, this is clearly proven by ancient historians and geographers, including Titus Livy, Strabo, as well as Pliny who lists many in detail in the fourth book of the collection of 37 works entitled "Natural History", not to mention the great ancient geographer "Claudius Ptolemy" who also classifies the Lyncestrae among the Illyrian tribes . And the later authors have the same attitude since on several occasions, they mention Eurydice, the mother of Philip II and the grandmother of Alexander, as being illyrian etc...
Most of us can’t even imagine walking to the next city over from us let alone how far Alexander walked . Think about how far he went on either foot or horse back . No cars, planes , trains or even a bicycle. That alone is impressive before you even consider what he accomplished before many people these days even move out of their parents houses

I really appreciate this documentary compared to other attempts to tell Alexander's story. They always oversimplify it in a way that makes no sense. They make it seem like he just marched into Persian land and all of a sudden it was his, in reality it was hard-fought and he had to accomplish many spectacular feats at each leg of the campaign.
In reality it ws much more complicated than this video But the video is very good. Video is also missing the Balkan campaign. Full video of Alexander would have battle of Chaeronia, and the events with Demosthenes, then Balkan campaign, and the Persian campaign. But still the video is amazing and very well made.
Actually, this was one of his life goals; the same way he was reading the Iliad stories 1000 years after they happened, he wished he would be as successful and rememberable as Achilees

Alexander's victory was the result of training by Aristotle. Once Alexander said that "To my birth, I am debtor to my father but to my life I am debtor to Aristotle."

Anyway, the real etymology of the word Macedonia:
The name Macedonia derives from the Greek Μακεδονία (Makedonía), a kingdom named after the ancient Macedonians, from the Greek Μακεδόνες (Makedones), "Macedonians", explained as having originally meant either "the tall ones" or "highlanders". Makednon is related to the Ancient Greek adjective μακεδνός (makednós), meaning "tall, slim".

A single man with an army of just tens of thousands conquered an entire empire in 13 years and then we wonder why he's remembered 2300 years later... This is still unparalleled in global history, especially in such a short timespan.

Why are you using Cyrillic alphabet, that was invented centuries after the Macedonian empire for the Slavic people, to explain the etymology of the word Macedonia (where your etymology is far fetched at best)? The question is rhetoric as unfortunately I already know the answer...
Makednon is related to the Ancient Greek adjective μακεδνός (makednós), meaning "tall, slim".

yeah leader right now are just a bunch of coward
Yes because the instability caused by a leader being killed in battle is just so good for a nation. GTFO here. The people who believe that have no military or governing knowledge in the slightest.
Reminds me of George Bush family😅
This changed because of a new reliance on covert or special operations. Which was available after the introduction of weapons that shoot projectiles known as fire arms. Sun Tsu mentions covert intelligence gathering and covert operations are the key to success in the battlefield in 300 BC. It wasn’t taken to heart until the Russians invented operations for their breakthrough methods in modern warfare. Mind you commando units existed in ancient warfare. It wasn’t a requirement. Now it is.

Strabo (63 BC) tells us that Illyrians, Thracians, Bottians and Thesprotes shared the Macedonian territory (Tribes of Pelasgian origin 🇦🇱 ).
Source: (Strabo, VII, Frg .n°.11)
The Macedonians have just propagated the Hellenic culture and have adopted it little by little ...
Olympias, the mother of Alexander the Great.
But who was this woman who is said to have astonished the Macedonian king with her beauty ?
I will write based only on facts, that is, on the quotes of famous ancient authors, mainly Greek.
( For me there is one thing in history, which with the facts are not said ... )
According to Plutarch, Alexander was a descendant of Ajax through his father Neoptolemos and this is accepted without discussion.
( HISTORY OF THE PELOPONNESIAN WAR )
All these tribes, mentioned by the historian of Athenian origin Thucydides for their participation in the famous Peloponnesian war in the 5th century B.C., are considered as barbarians, therefore not Greek!
( Thucydides II, 80- IV, 126 )
The Kaons, the Thesprotians of Chamerie, the Arintans and the Parauets constitute the backbone of what one called Epirus.
"Shqiptar = child of the Eagle .... " .
(Pyrrhus was the cousin of Alexander the Great, of the Molossian tribe and himself an ambitious conqueror, Pyrrhus is one of the most formidable adversaries of the early days of ancient Rome).
Lorenzo Braccesi (Professor of Greek History at the University of Venice, Italy, in 1986) tells us:
- "Olympias was originally from Epirus, on the part of the father who was king of Epirus, on the part of the mother also and that Illyrian blood 🇦🇱 circulated in the family, there is no doubt. "
( 9,01- 9,15 . The true story of Alexander the great ... - Gjurmë Shqiptare )
That the Epirotes are or are not Illyrians is a discussion that, from an archaeological point of view, is resolved.
The mother of Philip is the daughter of the daughter
Of Arrhabaeus, daughter of king Sirras, says Strabo.
Plutarch is very detailed on this subject.
He insists that although Eurydice is Illyrian (🇦🇱) and barbarian in every sense of the word, she was educated to help children.
He says very clearly that she is Illyrian, and barbaric in every way.
(Plutarch, De liberis educandis. p.69)
Lyncestides from where came the mother of Philip II, were a tribe which extended not far from the lake of Ohrid, somewhere in the area of Manastir where the ruins of one of their most important cities are today.
(Illyrian, no doubt. It is the last province that has a border with Macedonia)
As for whether it was an Illyrian tribe, this is clearly proven by ancient historians and geographers, including Titus Livy, Strabo, as well as Pliny who lists many in detail in the fourth book of the collection of 37 works entitled "Natural History", not to mention the great ancient geographer "Claudius Ptolemy" who also classifies the Lyncestrae among the Illyrian tribes .
And the later authors have the same attitude since on several occasions, they mention Eurydice, the mother of Philip II and the grandmother of Alexander, as being illyrian etc...

The Nanda Empire was known for its vast resources and large army, reportedly five times the size of Alexander’s forces. After defeating King Porus, Alexander’s troops mutinied at the Beas River, fearing the daunting challenge of engaging with the Nanda forces further east in the Indo-Gangetic Plain
The quality of this documentary is just mind blowing in every aspect. Does total justice with the king of kings it portrays
27:03 He didn't want half the empire, he was coming to take it *_all_*
God that sounded badass
Terry Pennington, OBVIOUSLY 🤣😂
i repeated that a 1000 times man that line and everything was sooooooooooo good!!!!
Me in strategy games. When the opposing player asks for an armistice.
And he got his ass beaten in India and turned back from Northwest frontier gate to settle for half lol😂🤣🤣🤣
And pls do not call me nationalist. Because Oliver stone also showed him getting beat up in india from a very small king.
@@thethreespikes9737 he took the whole of it. It's his soldiers who were tired of Alexander's endless conquest and was forced to turn back. Get your facts straight.
Alexander's victory was the result of training by Aristotle. Once Alexander said that "To my birth, I am debtor to my father but to my life I am debtor to Aristotle."
Aristotle believed the Persians to be savages and once said they'd be better as slaves, Alexander did not share the same beliefs as shown in the video he let some keep their titles and land.
Everything Alexander achieved is a direct consequence of his father. His father modernized the Macedonian army. He(philip)took them from a nation of shepards to a nation of conquerors. It was philip who drew up the blue prints for the persian invasion.
@@noahconnor1540 the remnants of the people still are savages.
prutis4 Savages with the largest Empire hmmm🤔🧐?
@Jd Pv wtf you again we slaughtered your people and kingdoms long ago
having been to alot of the historic places he has conquered including multan where he got injured , persepolis & babylon to and of course athens where the temples were burnt i find this such a well pieced together documentary and thoroughly enjoyed it ! great work😀
I like how in every battle, as soon as the fight commences, Alexander always tries to fight his way towards Darius. That must have terrified Darius 😂
😂😂
To be aware that a lunatic is chasing you to slaughter u.. bad feeling
he was going for the snakes head yes...
** BIG facts
Nah, Alexander was a big fan of Darius, he was trying to get some with him, and make him his satrap but then Darius got murdered.
