- hello loves! in this tutorial you'll learn how to make this super cute, easy cat ear hat that went viral on crochettok a while ago!
I love this color combination and wanted to share how i made this hat :)

when i did this it seemed like my hat kept getting wider as i went along, what did i do wrong?
probably the tension you’re using. try holder your yarn tighter

tension is a possibility! if that doesn’t solve it it could also be that you’re adding an extra stitch every time you start a new row! maybe count your stitches and make sure you’re not adding new ones! hope this helps :)

Just a question if it’s possible for anyone to answer, but the outside of my hat is pretty messy, and I was wondering if it would still be the exact same if I was able to turn it inside out and wear it like that? I haven’t finished yet, so if I have no advice by the time I’ve finished I’ll share my findings :)

oh no! i’m not sure what might’ve went wrong, sometimes it takes some adjusting to get the hat on correctly! it’s also possible if your stitches are uneven it’ll make the hat a weird shape! sorry i couldn’t be of more help 😣

oh no! this. this could be caused by irregular stitches! you might be making them too tight in one row and too loose in the next! hope this helps and good luck!

hiii do you think it would be okay if i followed this tutorial the same way but used a 5mm hook instead of 4mm? i really want to make this but 5mm is the only one i have. im a beginner so i don't know how much hook size affects the project really😭no idea what im doing. thank you sm for great tutorial either way 🖤
hi! yeah that should be fine! a larger hook will probably make your stitches bigger, so you might have to put 12 double crochet in row one instead of 13 (but keep everything else the same)
this also depends on how you naturally crochet (for example, i tend to crochet smaller, tighter stitches) and which brand of yarn you use. it takes a lot of experience to understand these nuances but yeah!

Hi! Did you use the acrylic version of I Love This Yarn or did you use the cotton version :O?
I looked up the yarn you had in your description and bought the acrylic version but I also found out there's a cotton version right after I already bought it. So I was wondering if acrylic is ok 😭

Help, I don't know what to think because I'm using a 5mm hook and I get 78 chains in the first row for a 22-inch circumference, but it already gave me something that doesn't fit or I'm doing it wrong
because I am using 2 threads at the same time, the threads are like for a hook of 2.5 each:(
Hey! I Hope you can help me, I’m following your step but mine expend all the way up and I can’t find the problem, it’s not straight like yours..
hi! there could be a couple reasons for this!
1. count your stitches! sometimes you can accidentally add an extra stitch at the beginning or end of each row making it larger as you go on
2. making your first row of chains looser! double crochets are thicker than chains, and this can cause the rectangle to get bigger and you keep working
3. try to keep your stitches consistent! sometimes as we crochet, our stitches can get looser or tighter which changes the size of our project

This tutorial looks so easy and I’m already on my 5th row but I tried it on to see if it’s good fit and it falls down to my neck! What did I do wrong? I did exactly 75 chains like she did and it fit my head perfectly but not anymore 😢 someone helpppp

@@vivoided I just finished the hat yesterday and it happened and I was tired of restarting lol so what I did was twist it the way I want it to go and keep stitching like normal it turns it back around 🙂
But I never figured out how it gets twisted in the first place lol😭

you should straighten and make sure the chains are not twisted before connecting it! It also happened to mine then I redo it and made sure they're straighten. It's not twisted anymore! 😂😊 I finished mine already btw, it looks great lol
This is my first ever project and I made it way too big lol I accidentally bought ugly yarn so I'm gonna finish it to learn the construction.
At around 4:08 it looks like you didnt finish the row? But if i do that it leaves a hole, so im a bit confused here
maybe because the yarn is kinda dark but did you crochet in every stitch at the bottom or did you leave 2 and just went ahead with the slip stitch

how do you try and prevent the project from twisting? I tried like five times and it still twists so if you have a solution please tell me :)
I chain 4 take the chain off my hook slip my hook into the first chain then place the last chain back on making sure no twists then keep chaining to desired length it shouldn't twist then
Please give me advice, I can not get it to be even. my rows are getting wider, at the very beginning the hat fits me in size, and at the end it is big for me. it's like a pyramid.

hi! yes this happens sometimes! there are a couple reasons for this
1. double crochets are wider than chains, so if you make your base chain too tight, it can cause the rectangle to taper like that! to fix this, size up your hook for ONLY the base chain to make it looser
2. you might be accidentally adding an extra stitch at the beginning of each row! if you’re unsure whether or not you’re adding stitches, count them!

sorry for the late reply! since the hat is a rectangle, when you put it on your head, the corners perk up and form little ears! hope this helps :)
How many ply is weight 4??
it should be 4 or 5 ply! kinda depends on the brand of yarn bc they’re all a bit different. hope this helps!

you can find some cheap ones in thrift stores! you can also “finger crochet” but this is usually for making blankets with chunky yarn. regardless, i hope you can crochet soon!! it’s very fun :)
Where are the cat ears?
the cat ears form when you wear the hat on your head! the corners of the hat kinda perk up and look like ears :)

oh no! yes black yarn can make it very difficult! if you’re still using black yarn i would recommend working with plenty of light! but yes a different color might be easier
