okay hello yes basically the amount you chain is going to be the length of your beanie and the amount of rows u crochet will be the circumference of ur head

a half double crochet (hdc) is basically a double crochet (dc) but half the steps so you yarn over, pull up a loop, 3 loops on ur hook, now instead of just pulling through a loop of one chain like in a double crochet, you pull through all 3 loops
