    I really appreciate all of the information I learn on your videos. I especially like your photography work. One request though, if in addition to the tight close ups, could you also show us what the larger colonies look like. It's great seeming the individual polyps but I'd appreciate knowing what it will look like as it gets larger. Thanks for your hard work!

    Excellent video. I truly appreciate your demystifying SPS and LPS for that matter. The one thing I have discovered is some tanks can grow all types of corals while others with the same parameters seem to struggle. I just keep at it until the right magic kicks in.

  • @skzion2
    @skzion2 4 года назад +1

    One of the big problems for sps tanks is aggressive corals that neighbor the sps species. LPS often have sweeper tentacles and softies often exude toxins. The thing is, sweepers come out at night, and toxins are invisible.

    Awesome video! Definitely cleared up some of the doubts I was having about SPS.

    I have never kept Acros, but I do keep easy monties like orange cap with very good success in my mixed reef nano tanks. I have also been able to keep birds nest too with weekly water changes, good flow, good water parameters, etc. in my 28G and 10G tanks.

    I didn't realize my Lepto frag was SPS, kind of explains why it really didn't like my tank to start off with, but with experimentation and placement it seems to be doing great :)

    I thought montiporas were considered to be pretty easy? Acropora's definitely harder, even though I have never tried one.

    • @brandonezdoofenshmirtz2916
      @brandonezdoofenshmirtz2916 4 года назад +2

      Montiporas are considered hard and are extremely difficult in small aquariums because of calcium and alkalinity consumption. Difficulty all depends on who you asl

      @@brandonezdoofenshmirtz2916 Im an abosolute noob in SPS, I find Montipora is easier. Its purely just about stability of the 3 elements

      I'm actually wanting a Monti garden. After acro black bugs. I'm staying clear of em. I think montis will be more interesting in unpredictable growth. Acros I love but it's pretty easy to predict growth patterns and growth patterns don't vary much. I'll admire acro in videos. Love em just not for me. It's the euphyllia for me in the sps world😅

    Meanwhile, I can keep multiple types of acros (green planet, hard bonsai, another whose name eludes me) which are thriving and I have had seriatapora, stylophora and poccilopora bleach on me. It just goes to show how finicky these corals can be even when they are labeled as the easy kind

    • @tidalgardens
      @tidalgardens  9 лет назад +8

      Sean Wellman It could be too much light. The conditions that Acros like are often too bright for some other SPS.

    Hey Than. Big fan of your youtube channel, it's currently the best reef tank photography on youtube IMO. Do your systems have problems with montipora? In my experience, most montipora species are just as hardy as seriatopora.

    • @tidalgardens
      @tidalgardens  9 лет назад

      renesis317 Montipora can't be kept in low light systems like some of the other options. They are also susceptible to Montipora-specific nudibranchs that are impossible to manage.

    Your video is misleading. You focus on the flow and light requirements which are easy to achieve throwing money at it.
    You didn't mention the key requirement for SPS that opens the gates of hell in saltwater tanks: the need to supply calcium. So, my advise for anyone who wants to enjoy their reef tank with less fuss and risk is to stay away from SPS and LPS.
