These sit downs you're doing now are fantastic. I've not watched BRStv in a while just because of my frustration with the hobby but these are fun to sit and watch.
Ill be honest, my T5s have ALWAYS outgrown my corrals vs my Kessil, i tried it for 6 month's, loved the color, but was a very slow growth rate. T5 ERRUPTS my frags growth. Nice LED blue strip and im golden.
I have spring water. I have used it for decades. Previously I had well water for decades. No RODI. I long thought about doing RODI but my spring water and well water both worked. Someday I will do a ICP test out of curiosity. 🤔
I remember using a 4 way mixing Erie control valve to rotate inside a manifold to send water through different pipes in order to create a variable flow in the tank from the return pump. We didn't have circulation pumps in the tank. I also remember upgrading to T5 bulbs from metal halide. That was a good day. I was able to remove fans from the hood anwith the new t5 ballast. It was so quite compared to what I had. We have certainly come a long ways in 30 years
Sometimes I am not so sure. There's a thousand different products on the market and many of them create new problems while solving the original problem. The hobby is all over the map without any gold standard to follow.
@djknox2 I completely agree with you on this. A basic tank nowadays has wifi connection to pumps, lights, circulators, dosers, feeders, auto tops offs, mixing containers and a bunch of other things. They all require passwords, double authentication, credit card info, name, phone number, age and sex.....lol. not to mention all the custom setting for each device. Then you have to make sure they all pair with each other. Don't forget brand marketing and compatibility.
@@nathan-d8 I started the hobby with a 125 gal marine aquarium back in 1984. Back in those days, there was a guy named Albert Thiel who wrote a couple of books on advance reef keeping. He knew what he was doing, even though some of the equipment was not ideal. Today, there is no such individual one can draw inspiration from, just thousands of youtube channels all advocating different approaches, promoting every possible gadget imaginable. I'm currently designing my FINAL retirement aquarium - 2000 gal - and will draw more from my own experience than from all this craziness...
The Arka doser can dose liquid foods. It uses magnetic stirrers to stir the liquids/food first and then doses the set amount. Pretty cool little doser.
Just wanted to say if you run a nano tank think carefully about a ato I run one on my 20gal all in one nano and it slowly adds to much fresh water as the filters block up and when I change the filter Matt the ato alarms as to full and it’s only a difference of 12 hour filter Matt change
I've heard that ick can be made inactive, in other words, fall off the fish and die if you put the temperature way up to like 86 F or higher for a period of time. After a while without a host the ick dies. And longer periods of high temps like this can help kill ick eggs. Maybe 40 days?
On the scrapers…you have to keep the aquariums with curved glass. (Never again but one). I have found the plastic scrapers, old cc or drivers license and have to use the small or nano magnetic scrubbers. Just for additional info for us who have made the curved glass mistake.
The marineland DD 300 had issues with seals blowing. I picked one up from my LFS that had bad seals but was told it was mine for free if I could get it out of the store. Two years later and I rebuilt it and now it is very close to being ready for water
I also live in Florida. If I kept my house at 78 degrees, my 120 gallon tank temperature would be close to 81 or 82 degrees. That's due to the heat of the internal pumps (all DC), UV, and lighting. So the temp in my house is kept at 75. In the winter where I live temperature can be below freezing so I do have a heater.
We keep our house around 72 in Florida but some hot days it rises. I'm to the point I set my inkbird to 8 hours continuous when I see some people doing 30+ on r2r. I could probably go lower. My brute in my garage cycling rock for a new build stays at 80 or above. It gets too damn hot and I fight it to get lower.
My 2g pico has LED 7color ability. What lighting tactics should be used for starting . But there is a mode that cycles the color spectrum frequency ,all 7 in a row over and over, in 8 second exposes . Color Wheel : red, green, blue, yellow, purple, and light blue, these six are the 8 sec cycled light in order,7th color, the bright white, is absent from spectrum ?
Technology and automation make this hobby a lot easier, But I like the way Victor thinks! The more gadgets I add to my system the more points of failure I potentially can now have.
I just noticed that cube tank in the back. It’s like 45 full of sand?? Is that to raise what you have in it closer to the light? What is in it? And why such a deep base media?
I have never seen you guys mention the rotary drum filters used on koi ponds. Wouldn't that be better than the roller mats? No need to replace filter fabric.
Been manually dosing for last 6 years, as it's one less thing to go wrong when Im away and my wife is looking after the tank. I can trust her to pipette some solution in every day, but there's no chance she'd notice if dosing pump broke/ line got clogged, or solution ran out.
Where is the smart chemistry, guys? I know rodi water does not have much buffer capacity. I know this applies in PH, making it difficult to test. Is it safe to assume it's the same for alk? Making 20 dkh incorrect because of the lack of impurities, so it is not really 20 dkh. I would like to know if you mixed up some new water 20 dkh rodi using the bucket recipe and what the dkh would be then.
I get my metal halide fixtures and bulbs from premium aquatics or Hamilton. Just because BRS don’t carry something doesn’t mean it no longer exists. Petco even has halide bulbs online.

I have an Aqueon 90 reef ready 19 years old now and still going strong great tank!
When are u going to re seal it?
When do you think a tank needs to be resealed?.@@malinoisnation9392
The Tunze algae scrapper is da Bomb! Possibly best purchase ive ever made!

Say hello to my little friend!! Great episode 😊

Despite the common LED lights in today hobby in my opinion some of the best tanks I’ve done maintenance on were under metal halide
I still have flashbacks 15 years later of burning my arms on MH.
I have some for sale... MH... Hit me up 😂

Still using Metal Halides. Found bulbs on Amazon. I don’t think there’s anything better for replicating sunlight over a tropical reef!
There there’s a company that makes the sea squirrels in Germany. It was on the latest stratum, ATI LED, RUclips video.16:50 a very sleek design

Awesome conversation for us newbies to hear, thanks guys!

Credit card and a razor always worked great for me in my bowfront that i jus got rid of
Don't use any scraper ever to risky

Great video, gentlemen! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Needs vs. wants topic is very helpful.
We love you guys!❤

Oh and Victor needs to try out a lot :D haha, and me too

I just noticed that cube tank in the back. It’s like 45 full of sand?? Is that to raise what you have in it closer to the light?
What is in it? And why such a deep base media?
Looks like a mangrove is planted in it so the depth of the sand is for the stability of the planted items? Just a thought

Most people have 3ft tanks or less
I have Coral live light. For growing coral s and plants. LEDs light was not cheap tho let's put the money to work on coral s.
Important thing to remember is we are looking after water not animals. Keep the water right and the animals look after themselves

The Masters 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
What salinity does WWC keep their tanks at??
Sounded like he said 30
Aqueon also does a 60g lowboy
Aqueon does a 210 also still I just got one a couple months ago
I clean my refugium every two weeks . Nitrate and phosphate stay 0.003 & 0.02
Do you guys have any thoughts on FWC's whitelist?
In Europe T5 lichting is soon (few months) forbidden so LED is the only sustainable option left.
Does that mean you won’t be able to even buy the T5 lamps?

Had the 150 tall great tank
You guys must not have tried the aquavitro protein skimmer. I have not once had that issue with this skimmer.
I have my 90 gallon still going strong for 15 years purchased from Petland
Pet land 😆
I get my metal halide fixtures and bulbs from premium aquatics or Hamilton. Just because BRS don’t carry something doesn’t mean it no longer exists. Petco even has halide bulbs online.
where can i get that wwc fitted hat
Mr Googly Eyes 😂😅😂
I think your own system RODI or a lot of trust in local store
Dont need a return pump if you dont have a sump.
OceanMotion makes motors for creating oscelating pumps
WE CANT LET T5’S GO EXTINCT!!!! Theyre too amazing and too important to the hobby!
1.22 a gallon spring water 40 gal long $dollar a day
People are buying T5s for weed, not tanks.
The ATI bulbs 😂
Nah, we use a blend of HPS and LED.
😂👍🏼
2 guys sitting talking about importants of RODI water drinking disani water. Lol
I had the same thoughts 😂
Coca Cola sponsor?

HEY YOU TAKE THAT BACK!
