It's weird because the tune of Carol of the bells that Joakim is playing at the start is in reverse octave, This implies sadness and hopelessness. Later on in the song he plays it in the upper octave to symbolize Hope and Happiness. And the end back down to the lower octaves. His mastery of the piano never ceases to amaze me.
Also the beginning portion was a complete coincidence... he said in an interview that he realized after writing it that it was charol of the bells and said "well fuck it I'm gunna get called out, so I might as well acknowledge it and put I bit of carol of the bells at the end."
Yea as many other people have said, when Joakim joined the band, he originally was going to be a keyboarder. But then he became a "temporary" singer since they needed one, this turned into his permanent role.
No shame in crying: when it comes to our reflective humanity. This is such a POWERFUL story AND song! I hadn't heard about the Christmas Truce, before Sabaton... I've mostly only studied World War Two & know very little about the Great War
The truce lasted for 2 days. Bertie Felstead, who died in August 2001 at the age of 106, was originally believed to have been the last survivor of the Christmas Truce. However, it later emerged that Alfred Anderson had participated in the Christmas Truce, and he outlived Felstead by four years. This is giving me chills too and the tears are falling. So beautiful! And it is the truth. Sabaton is taking it's video making ques from Rammstein and that's an awesome thing! I love both bands. This also reminds me of the Trans Siberian Orchestra's "Christmas Eve/Sarajevo".

It’s amazing just how good Sabaton truly is at getting the emotional energy of the war stories they tell into their songs, and truly this song is the pinnacle of that, I don’t think any person can listen to this song and not tear up.
I’m sure you already know this but both sides actually had to relocate huge parts of their frontline forces after the christmas truce because large portions of the troops refused to continue the fighting
After this evening most refused to fight each other, so they were sent to different locations of the frontline and they made sure this story wasn't passed on because it would be devastating for the will to fight. If you don't know the movie about this incident watch it, it is named Joyeux Noël.
Such a beautiful and authentic reaction, I was moved the same way when I first heard this song. Sabaton practically never fails to get a response from the feels.

War is just the same for both sides of fighting soldiers. IMHO the series called "Band of Brothers" (2001 HBO Production) showed really great, how the war does look from the perspective of multiple different soldiers on the front. The episode 9 called "Why we fight" is a question without good, satisfying answers, that by the time will bother every soldier. Conflicts are made by the politics, pushed with orders from the officers, so soldiers can fight for them, in the glory "for the country", even if you're far from the home.

What have to remember that they all maybe only 10 years earlier fought a war on the same side and most of them probably already made friends on the other side and now had to kill each other. This Christmas Truce was for most of them seeing through war hardened friendships end in putting a bullet in each others heads... Knowing this just makes the whole thing of Chrismas Truce even more sad but heart worming because you know that some of them might have been able to see friends again that they thought to never see again and say a final peaceful goodbye and spend a beautiful Chrismas together.

A very good French film that illustrates the Christmas Truce is "Joyeux Noël". It is one of my absolute favorite films that highlights the interconnected and unspoken bonds we share as people. It is also one of the few films that has each group speak primarily in their native language so having subtitles is a must. I speak English and French, and even then the Scots are soooo Scottish that you need subs for them too. It's a story of a glimmer of hope at the beginning of the darkness that is the first world war before even more unhinged nationalism and forced attrition is poured into the fight. It gives a more psychological "No Man's Land" that reflects the same one on the battlefield; an everwidening gulf between people.
Every tike i listen to this song i get goosebumps because of the energy and the emotion that the song builds up. I will always be a die-hard Sabaton fan…
Sabaton making history great again since 1999. I recomend their live videos "Swedish pagans" "Ghost devision" "40:1" "Attak of the dead men" "night wiches" "Carolus rex" a some great songs and performances to watch. Have fun exploring! Love your videos, keep up the good work.
In order of appearance, Hannes, Tommy, Joakim, Par and Chris. Love your reaction, had a similar one the first time I heard it. Take a look at their latest, Soldier of Heaven..........another story of men who didn't want to be there but died for their efforts, and senselessly.
Yep, the next Reactor, who skipped Floors wonderfull Soprano ending, over the credits . Why, can they hear a Masterpiece from the first to the LAST Note.🤔
@@simpleviking With Sabaton's videos in particular it is a very good idea to pay close attention until the very end. They like to hide little easter-eggs like Floor's cameo in their songs. No point in robbing yourself of that, is there?
Sabaton has made a few videos together with YarnHub. They have a version of this song as well, with more of a background story where the whole situation around the Christmas Truce 1914. The truce was not official (despite the sitting pope pleading with the leaders of the fighting countries of actually declaring an official truce over Christmas). What's really sad is that it only happened 1914. The following years you'd be court marshaled for doing something similar (regardless of which country you fought for). And yeah, i cried too when watching it for the first time. As for recommendations. Check out Brothers of Metal, if you want something a bit more light hearted and fun. Their song about Mead is nice.
If we stay on Sabaton recomendations: Do a double... Livgardet and the english version of the same song The royal Guard. The videos are quite different..... The English version is of "kalabaliken i bender" while the Swedish version is more about the livgardet/royal guard itself..... one of the worlds oldest fighting units still active today. Livgardet celebrated 500 years of service last year....that is longer than a lot of countriies has existed ;)
It's already been mentioned but never end a Sabaton video before the very end (or indeed any metal artists' videos) or you might miss something very relevant.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but some soldiers refused to fight after the truce, and they had to be transported to other parts of the front.
Some time, I will get back and offer some other titles by SABATON that are my (earlier) favorites. They are wonderful, all. :)) At his point though, all seems small talk. Thank you for the emotions. I subscribed.
OMG you cut off Floor Jansen who was singing the end credits ( current singer for Nightwish & married to the drummer of Sabaton the blonde German soldier) Great Reaction, Sabaton sings mostly about historic military history from many time periods and is a great way to learn about history. this event took place in 1914 during the 1st few months of World War 1. for more on this topic there is a decent movie (2005) "Joyeux Noel" (Merry Christmas) shows the German, French & British (well a Scottish unit) , sadly when word of these events got out many units were punished and relocated to other sections of the line were the fighting was more savage. and then they made sure on holidays they would launch attacks and such. but the war took a turn and got more deadly esp once GAS started to be used in 1915 some soldier tried to repeat the event of 1914 but were shot.
Great reaction, I also tear up when hearing this song ❤️. If you want another powerful song but it's a faster one, I recommend "Screaming Eagles official video" Trevligt att se en Svensk som upptäcker Sabaton. 🇸🇪🤟
Yes, we start with their drummer Hannes, then with have Tommy one of their guitarist ( 0:27 ), then obviously Joakim, Pär (bassist ) at 1:45 and finally Chris the second guitarist . And the credit's vocalist is Floor Jansen from Nightwish .
The thing is, they actually refuse to fight each other any more after the truce, to the point that they have to be shuffled around the frontline to make sure they don’t think about that anymore
Just love your reaction videos of Sabaton! And I watch a lot of diffrent videos by other channels and yours are the best, all categories! Its almost as satisfying as the video itself. And BTW your english is perfect, how is that? As a swede myself I know how hard it is to get rid of the Swedish accent....
As emotional as the subject material itself is, it hits harder for me because i hold a very high level of respect for countless people in the many, many wars across history on multiple sides, and the men of the Truce are by no means any sort of exception. So it gets me even more emotional, considering how we as people are treating each other in this day and age, we cant be civil anymore, everyone is always attacking each other over mostly political and social "problems", and cannot get along, and i cant help but wonder if THIS is the shit these men died for? I feel they would be ashamed with most of us. Then, it gets worse, when there are people that dont even know about this event, or others like it, that stories like this are being phased out of history teachings and forgotten like their sacrifices didnt matter. To say im ashamed and disappointed with my generation and the next, is an understatement. This is why with all the bad shit thats happened in 2020 and 2021, is why I think Par carved 2021 into the cross at the end, for them to essentially say "enough is enough, we need to stop being so horrible to each other and come together again."
Very well said. I agree. I often think about all of the people that have sacrificed themselves for mankind. The world has gone to shit and I feel so bad that they died for this world we live in now. So many people aren't even the slightest bit greatful that they can live their lives free from tyranny. As u said, there is even people that don't know about this event and others like it. Its sickening. I really hope we can come together again but I don't know if thats possible.
this was one of the key moments of humanity. That something as absolute, brutal and extreme as a war is stopped in its tracks for a day completely spontaneously is incredible
Hey Viking, wanted to start out by saying that I enjoy your content a bunch and really like how you handle such delecate topics. Saltatio Mortis has a very nice son about the same event . It's German though. "Als die Waffen schwiegen". I think you could like them. "Nachts Weinen die Soldaten" is also very nice. Greetings from Germany.
You really need to check out Feuerschwanz, their new album is my favourite album of 2021.. not a single dud song on the album.. "Memento Mori" and their cover of "Warriors of the world united" is simply sublime! Other outstanding tracks: Ding, Meister Der Minne, Das Elfde Gebot, I see Fire, Metfest, Malleus Maleficarum, Hier kommt Alex, Schubsetanz (original & Black metal version), Untot im Drachenboot, Ultima Nocte & Die Hörner hoch. Not quite similar to Sabaton, But I have a feeling you will love it.
they didn't return to shooting each other, that's the best/worst part of the christmas truce. they refused to kill each other after, they intentionally aimed high, this was truly a moment where man kind could have ended war all together had we just learned from the men who met the enemy as friends.
Alot of these troops had to be moved to different lines after this, there was refusal on both sides to shoot at each other, Many a bullet was fired above the trenches or to at the Sun. The truce amongst those Brothers and Friends did last past that day.

Seeing your expression, your eyes and your emotion, I can see clearly and without fear of being wrong, that you are a good person.
soldiers: *shooting the heck out of each other*
Christmas: *arrives*
soldiers: "soccer time!!"
In order of appearance, Hannes, Tommy, Joakim, Par and Chris. Love your reaction, had a similar one the first time I heard it. Take a look at their latest, Soldier of Heaven..........another story of men who didn't want to be there but died for their efforts, and senselessly.
Nowadays it's common to think the holiday season is one day, but everyone forgets the word "season".
There are times a real man can shed a tear and this is one of those.
Ive seen this sooo many times now. And gets tears in my eyes everytime. And you are no help. Vi sitter här med tårar i ögonen, båda två. :)
Sabatons new song Soldier of heaven is released today
Hittade precis hit och jepp... Din råa reaktion till det här gör mig glad. SUB!! :)
Interesting you mentioned Night Wish, since the outro, which you skipped, was sung by Floor Jansen, the leadsinger from Nightwish 😉
Yep, the next Reactor, who skipped Floors wonderfull Soprano ending, over the credits . Why, can they hear a Masterpiece from the first to the LAST Note.🤔
Sorry :(
@@simpleviking With Sabaton's videos in particular it is a very good idea to pay close attention until the very end. They like to hide little easter-eggs like Floor's cameo in their songs. No point in robbing yourself of that, is there?
@@ranekeisenkralle8265 Not only with Sabaton videos! The people who make these put the end credits there for a damn reason! 🖤🤘 From Germany
Teachers : songs don't teach anything
Sabaton : HOLD MY BEER
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but some soldiers refused to fight after the truce, and they had to be transported to other parts of the front.
Some time, I will get back and offer some other titles by SABATON that are my (earlier) favorites. They are wonderful, all. :))
At his point though, all seems small talk. Thank you for the emotions. I subscribed.
you should play it to END! - Floor is singing!!!!!
Fantastic reaction…. Thanks for sharing your true feeling…. Great band……
Never stop a Sabaton video before the end you miss something.
Great reaction, I also tear up when hearing this song ❤️. If you want another powerful song but it's a faster one, I recommend "Screaming Eagles official video" Trevligt att se en Svensk som upptäcker Sabaton. 🇸🇪🤟
This is as far as I'm concerned the best sabaton song ever
Have you heard Hannes speak English? Amazing.
Nice reactions,i love it. Greetings from Darmstadt/Germany !
Thank you so much!!
Greetings from Darmstadt/Germany again !!! 🤘
Emotional and so sad. Greetings from England.
Love your honest reaction!
Bro! You are the best rector I've come across in along while! Way to go sir!! Instant sub
I love your channel keep up the great stuff
Loved your reaction and thoughts about the song/video. Had much the same reaction the first time I saw it.
7:29 can I give you a hug? I loved that absolutely genuine reaction!
I will not say do not weep, for not all tears are an evil.
This song certainly earns it.
this was one of the key moments of humanity. That something as absolute, brutal and extreme as a war is stopped in its tracks for a day completely spontaneously is incredible
Great reaction. Greetings from Germany
Loved the reaction ❤️
Thank you! ^^
Sabaton tells stories, many of which would be forgotten otherwise, they never glorify war.
I love your reactions! Thanks!
Thank you! :D
Hey Viking,
wanted to start out by saying that I enjoy your content a bunch and really like how you handle such delecate topics.
Saltatio Mortis has a very nice son about the same event . It's German though. "Als die Waffen schwiegen". I think you could like them. "Nachts Weinen die Soldaten" is also very nice.
Greetings from Germany.
The cross at the end is real and they took the time and the chance to bury the dead in that christmas truce.
This reaction is so pure :D
Love this reaction 🤘
By far, my favourite Christmas song! has much more meaning nowerdays with a planet involved in war.
That‘s makes war with the people! Only pain and death and hate, no hope ! No shaming to crying and for the tears! War is hell!
Alot of these troops had to be moved to different lines after this, there was refusal on both sides to shoot at each other, Many a bullet was fired above the trenches or to at the Sun. The truce amongst those Brothers and Friends did last past that day.
Listening now and remembering there is a war going on not to far away. But damn i also cried, so u got a Like and Abo Bro🤙🏻
