    Hello Tank
Unfortunately, war is as old as humanity itself. Sabaton repeatedly emphasizes that they do not want to glorify war. Rather, they would like to use your songs to point out the many, many senseless victims of the war and thus ensure that they are not forgotten. In my opinion, this video is a milestone for that. History shows that far too many had to die for the insane ambitions of a few. It shows the madness of war. For me, the key message of the video is "WAR IS BULL SHIT!"

I was at the premier as well, it was two a.m., I had just finished some homework and I saw that sabaton was premiering something so I started watching it. After the song had ended, I took a shower and I just started crying, I don't cry easy, it takes the death of a friend or family member to make me shed a few tears. I was bawling in the shower at 2 in the morning... I still get misty eyed hearing this song. This song is the only Christmas song I'll allow in November because it's a reminder that our humanity is what unites us. To everyone who reads this, be kind, and take care of each other. Thank you Tank and Thank you Sabaton!

Good song, and a good review - Thanks Tank.
It will be interesting to see how they do this during concerts, if Joakim will play the piano or not. It wouldn't surprise me if he actually does that, because as you probably know - or not - Joakim started in Sabaton as the keyboard player, who at some time was asked if he could do some singing too. According to himself (that story is told on the Heroes On Tour DVD that is about the concert with the half a million crowd at Polish Woodstock, a rip of it can be found on YT) his singing was crap but he kept doing it anyway. A bit down the road he heard the lads in the band talking about getting a new keyboardist and Joakim was saying "Hang on a minute now, I am playing the keyboard here". "Oh no no" said the lads, "You are the singer and we need a new keyboardist in the band".
    Cheers / B.

This song is one of my favorite Sabaton songs (top 3). My grandfather fought in France in WWI. He was 16 when he volunteered in 1916. He never spoke about it. This song never fails to make me tear up. This and “1916.” The war to end all wars. I wish. FACT: On the Eastern Front truces were tried, but because the Julian and Gregorian calendars are three days off Christmas didn’t occur on the same day. Unarmed Germans coming out of their trenches were taken prisoner by the Russians who thought the Germans were either mad or cowards.

What always impresses me is not simply that they go over the top in production, but that they strive to get the small details right, they care about it and pay attention. In this video it's the uniforms, they are on point for 1914, both sides. It's plainly a video (French and British together, long hair, and such) but nevertheless they stay as true as possible to historical accuracy where they are able. A lot of games, movies and TV shows could learn from this - even when telling a fictional story you can put in the effort to get the little background historical details accurate, Sabaton does, because Sabaton cares.

It's an amazing video for an excellent song. As a veteran myself I may be biased, but I think the great irony is that military people, people prepared to die for another, are the most humanitarian people on earth. We want "our war" to end wars but here we are, at the whim of old men, young men and women still out killing other young men and women we don't know, and don't necessarily dislike..........God please let it end. There's a bit of trivia about the exploding piano at the end, pianos have traditionally been burned at the funeral of a significant military death......Sabaton blow the bastard apart, I love this!

Regarding the ban on Christmas truces in subsequent years: if I remember right, part of the story about the Christmas truce is that many of those soldiers refused to fight each other once hostilities resumed. Not sure if that's 100% true, but I was always told that it's part of the reason various militaries haven't allowed a Christmas truce since 1914.

I mean, can you imagine how difficult it would be to just start shooting at each other again? The enemy was no longer dehumanized. They weren't just a mass shooting at you. They had names, faces, families, they were *people.* They thought they were the good guys as much as you thought you were. Neither of you really knew why you were fighting when the man on the other side was so similar. Even if you didn't speak each others' language and there wasn't someone who could translate at hand, the mere act of coming together without fighting like that makes it so, *so* much harder to go back to fighting. They *empathized* with one another.

@@PyroDesu Absolutely. "I played football with that guy, we had drinks and showed each other pictures of our families. He's my friend now; I'm not gonna shoot him." Not to mention that the first world War was such a mess of convoluted politics that many of these guys probably didn't fully understand why they were there in the first place. Many were really just kids (18-19), who'd enlisted because they thought war would be exciting, and/or because they naively believed the propaganda that "the enemy" was A Threat To Our Way Of Life. Seeing that enemy up close, talking to them and realizing that they were just regular people with many of the same hobbies, goals, and fears as you have, must have been deeply jarring for these young men.

This past spring I was playing Sabaton in the car with my sister, and she thought one of their songs was going to be "O come all ye faithful," and the thought Joakim singing Christmas music tickled my brain. I knew THIS song would have me in tears before the first chorus was over, the moment I saw it. Although, no joke I absolutely would not mind a whole Sabaton Christmas album.

A sad note that is often forgotten is that before the Christmas Truce was the disastrous 'Winter Operations'. This was an offensive launched by the British to capture German trenches and to stop fraternisation over Christmas. Overall it was a disaster with many British deaths and casualties and barely no land taken. During the Christmas Truce many of the bodies buried where off men who had died during the Winter Operations.

I'm so very impressed by this song/video. The sound and imagery got me right in the feels. I'm close to 40 and this reminds me how close I'm build to water. The crying over this went, but the goose bumps stay.

So glad to see you react equally as emotional to this song as I did. I could not stop crying until about 5 minutes after the song ended

Waited until now to listen to this song, because I wanted to see it with you. Was not disappointed.

Man, I'm kinda disappointed that you didn't include the bagpipes and piano in the gear breakdown along with the harmony guitar. I think the piano, in particular, looks really interesting, almost guaranteed from the time period, and IDK why but the keys on it look peculiar (not 100% sure it's the correct word), like old wood or something? Still, it was great to see your reaction! Also, I'm just seeing that you passed 100.000 subscribers. I know it's a bit arbitrary and not really more special than other numbers, but still: Congratulations! ...and Merry Christmas, I guess :D

Back then, the piano key would have been real Ivory (white, turned yellowish with age) and ebony (black). so they would have looked different. Just another of the accurate details they got right.
