- We now have the 3rd single to be released from Sabaton's upcoming album "The War To End All Wars", this time telling the story of Sir Adrian Carton de Wiart, who is one of the most decorated British officers in history. This music video summed up: "Sabaton band members desperately try to kill their historian and he just WON'T. BLOODY. DIE."
For real though, this music video is so cheeky and meant to be over the top. And because of that, while the song is good with that galloping beat and guitars, I basically screamed with laughter throughout. I honestly did not expect such a funny, tongue-in-cheek video from them. And I loved Indy in this. They told him to go full blown melodrama and he CHEWED the scenery to utter BITS.
Let's be honest, there is no other way to do a tribute to this guy. Sir de Wairt should have died several times over but the man was plot armor made real.

I find it interesting that the 3 singles released all have a different feel to them.
Christmas truce was upplifting and hopefull, soldier of heaven felt serious and sad.
And the unkillable soldier felt abit cheeky and fun.
And the really amazing thing is these songs and the overall album are focusing about one thing: war, specifically WWI

Nah, I believe it was to prevent the doctor from amputating his whole hand, so he bit off his own finger to save the rest of the hand which would be amputated anyways.
@@tristanvoltaire2058 story is that he really cut it himself (or more accurately, tried to rip ot off with his teeth and ended up damaging it so much amputating it was now the only choice) because he could go back to the front faster as an amputee than if he waited to heal in the hospital.
Remember that guy is a complete madman that did EVERYTHING in his power to stay on the battlefield as much as possible.

I vaguely remember Sir Adrian ripping off his fingers WITH HIS TEETH, but I could be wrong. Either way, the man was an absolute badass, imo.

There is a movie about The Lost Battalion, and it's called "The Lost Battalion". The movie came out way before the Sabaton song (in 2001), but it's a pretty good movie, I'd recommend it.

5:40 The "hook" for this song, at least for me, is the chorus that sings "In the age of madness, In a time of sadness". That's constantly stuck in my head.
I love it how they decide to break it at the end and restart it.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with that chorus stuck in my head. The rest is pretty much what you'd expect from any other Sabaton song at this point, but that just makes the chorus even more outstanding.

I had an immediate crush on this song
When Sir de Wiart finished WW1 he held the title of Acting Brigade commander after having taken part in multiple great battles of WW1, when he was awarded the Victoria cross he dedicated it to the 8th Gloustershire Regiment for the fighting they went through, he then spent time in Poland as part of the British Polish mission to aid Poland in multiple conflicts, he ended up fighting the a red army cavalry unit that attacked the observation train he was on, he accidentally fell off it but managed to run back on and keep fighting, the whole story is so rich and amazing that if it hadn’t been documented I wonder how we would have known about it
It is too off-the-walls to be fake. No one would think to write a fictional story about someone that was shot and should have died 9 times.
Indy’s acting is hilarious in this one. He is a great addition to the band. The song is very catchy indeed. I loved it as well. In a couple of months there EU tour will start. I can not wait.
As someone who's been to war i understand why he enjoyed it. War changes you and sometimes soldies who come back can't really find a place for themselfes and they feel alone. Even i've wanted to go back and fight because i felt like the war was the only place where i belong.
Love how everytime Sabaton makes a music video about a single historical figure, they cast Indy Neidell to portray him.
Amon Amarth recently released a song called "Put Your Back Into The Oar", hopefully hinting at an upcoming album. It's just a story video, but it is amazing.
I predict that, if they play that song live, there will be massive rowing pits.

9:30 There is one other memorable moment involving him after his military career - during a diplomatic posting in China. Apparently he encountered Mao during a dinner - and told him to his face that he despised communism...
He was still military, as a military advisor to China - and it was in a conference where they were trying to unite the Chinese against the Japanese. He interrupted Mao' speech to tell him his ideas were rubbish, in front of the whole conference.

I also think that the different sound, also make me think a bit of "old times" perhaps it was also the video that lead me to those thoughts. But I found it refreshing.
I fucking love this song. It's fast, it's powerful, it's intense. I'd say this song is one of the most actual Power Metal songs Sabaton has produced to date. Especially the last chorus, the "pick up", it's AWESOME!
As for the video? It's utterly stupid, over the top and insane, and I love it.
Yes, it might be too much and not good, but I say, sometimes you just need some silliness in your life!
Not only are Sabaton normally spot on, with the historical perspective. But as you also mentioned Indy, have his own history channel about the Great War, and since a major part of this Video takes place during WW1, I have no doubt that is 100% correct with the "Frankly I enjoyed that War" note.

I'll be honest: I would ignore A LOT of music if not for music videos. I learned about a lot of bands from flashy music videos, and for a lot of them if I just heard a song on radio or somewhere, I would just say: "That sounds nice" and move on and forget.

While is was a little disappointed with the music of Soldier of Heaven, but loved the lyrics, it's kinda the reverse for me with The Ukillable soldier. I love the music, but it somewhat bothers me that some of the lyrics seem to be pretty much taken from their other works. Liky rhyming "madness" with "sadness" from Christmas Truce or "fire"/"over trench and wire" from The Future of Warfare. Perhaps because sabaton is Swedish and none of the songwriters have English as their first language? Either way, your reaction made me appreciate the overall song more, thank you for that :)

Little out of left field recommendation, but Blood of Bannockburn is probably one of my favorite Sabaton songs. It’s their only song in a major key as well!

weirdly enough, I had completely opposite feelings about this song and the last one, Soldier of Heaven. I immediately fell in love with the latter while this one was more of a grower. I actually enjoyed this more after hearing your breakdown of the various parts of the music. made me appreciate it a little more.
The way Sabaton did the production, I have to wonder if they took creative liberty with the nurse...seriously, looks like he just keeps get hurt so he can spend time with her. Seriously, every time he was wounded and went back and saw THAT nurse, all I can hear in my head is "Hello, nurse!" (to quote the Animaniacs).

Sir de Wiart is basically the epitome of my saying: Bravery is just a controlled form of madness.
And this song with its galloping beat( which I believe is a kinda reference to the fact that his first unit was cavalry one, but not sure about that) combined with general tone is definitely a love letter to that original Mad-Lad.

Incredible man for sure. I weirdly understand that he frankly enjoyed the war. I mean, the war didnt want him to die. It is like "You are born for war. So get up again and fight more. No matter what." Rammstein did something like that in Deutschland. But, OMG, Sabaton knows how to impress with their videos. They telling more than a BILLION words ever can. The humor here is like ive seen in monty python movies like holy grail or life of brian. It is dark and funny the same time. Joakim was like "Goddammit!!!! He is still ALIVE???!!!" and then they shot him down XD
