This song will be in my heart forever!!
I actually attended this concert. It played out right before the pandemic closed everything down. Standing in the 10th row on the left, I felt the excitement in the crowd when Joakim asked us to sing a long, and boy we did!!
We sang and cried and laughed at each other for being so emotional. It is my most memorable moment from a concert ever, and I cherish the experience.

When I was very little, I met a WW1 veteran. I had always been told you thank them for their service, so I came up to him and said, "Thank you!", but in my haste, forgot the other part. He grumpily stared at me and said, "And what are you thanking me for, little girl?" My mind went blank when put on the spot, so I just said, "For being here!" with my arms spread out for emphasis. He smiled and said "Well, you're welcome." I never saw him again. I can't even imagine what horrors he'd seen or what he'd been through, but I'm glad I made him smile that day.

That's so adorable! I pictured the whole scene 😁I'm sure it made his day. Yeah, who knows the horrors he faced and how it affected his life the rest of his days. Thank you for the story! 🤘❤️🤘

    • @Arcticun
      @Arcticun 4 месяца назад +4

Honestly, I think that likely meant more for him than to be thanked for his service again.
Why you might ask? Because when people thank him for his service, they thank him for what he's done. You, on the other hand, thanked him for being alive.
It might seem like a small difference, but I would imagine that it meant far more to him than you could imagine.

Unfortunately he wasn’t that respectful to the Ukrainians when the band played in Sevastopol and Joakim said that Crimea wasn’t occupied. Instead he said that the people on Crimea were victims of ending up on the Ukrainian side of the border when Ukraine became independent. He clearly picked the Russian side in the conflict.

    • @RD-dt7us

Playing for the Russians in occupied Crimea and massively downplaying what was happening was definitely their worst call ever, and it showed how naïve they really are behind the lines in their songs.

The song is about the 30 Years War(1618-1648). 2 sets of lyrics, the Swedish lyrics tell the story from an individual Swedish soldiers point of view. The English lyrics from a broader perspective.
Yep, the drum riser is an fing tank. lol. And , of course, that crowd is one of the main reasons this gets highly recommended. Par even putting his hands on his head at the beginning in what looks like disbelief. Yeah, a number of their live videos have been shot from on stage, a perspective most of us don't get to see.

I didn't know it was about the 30 Years War! It hits me different now.
Best freaking drum riser in history! 🤣🤣
I loved the perspective of it being shot as if we are right on stage with them! When the camera turns around and there is Joakim right there with a big smile on his face...priceless!!

We used to have manditory service but that went away in the 90´s or early 2000 or so. But now, because of the situation in the world and that we are now full members of NATO it´s manditory again.

@@BemusingBillWe had a conscription based army from 1901 to 2010.
It was reintroduced in 2017 so it wasn't gone that long. It was however updated so that women also could be conscripted.
Prior to the end of the cold war all men were conscripted which was about 50 000 per year.
After that they more or less only conscripted people that wanted to serve.
When I received the forms/papers (I think it was in 2006) it was down to about 5000 men per year.
      It's still between 5000 - 10 000.
It's ramping up but there is an inherit inertia to the process.
If all men were to be conscripted today it would be something like 100 000 per year.
So there is a difference compared to Finland were all men still have to do basic military training.

Nice reaction, I was at this show (sitting somewhere in the middle of the platform to the left from this view of the stage). Just before this clip started Joakim said no one carries around a lighter anymore, but you all have phones right? So turn on your lights for this one. Then at the start, he said totally wonderful, my friends, let's sing together en livstid i krig.
They had sold out the arena for this show so we were 10766 metalheads in the arena (going by facts online and in the newspaper after the show) needless to say, it was one hell of a show.

"The baptized and fall in battle" line is more literal than you think, by the way. Since the campaigns ran so long during the 30-years-war there were examples of young men that began as camp followers (soldiers sometimes brought their entire family along) that were baptized, came of age and joined the ranks only to die shortly thereafter. The same obviously occurred with young men from the home-territories.
A truly awful time to be a Swedish conscripted farmboy and just soldier in general to be sure.

In Sweden, around 6000 got drafted to do mandatory military training for 6-15 months last year. You get drafted based on your physical and mental skills, as well as your school grades, injury history, vision, hearing, etc.
I was fortunate to be one of the 6000/100000 to get drafted to serve my nation. With less than three months left of my time in the military, I have never been more grateful and proud of this opportunity that I have been given. The friends I have made and the things that I have learned is something you cannot find anywhere else.
Mixed feelings will follow me leaving the military in June, as I will be relieved and happy, yet sad with the knowledge that I will miss my friends and the time we had. However, I pray to God that I will never have to use my assault rifle at anybody and fight in an actual war.

This is one of my all-time favorites in live shows.
It touches deeply. The reason is not only that it is a very emotional show.
At that time (17th century), Finland was part of the Swedish empire. So the Swedish army during the 30 years war consisted mainly of Swedish (including Finns) soldiers. The share of mercenaries in the Swedish army was very small in the early stages of the war.
A relative of mine has been doing family history research and has been able to go back as far as 1690 so far. There are a lot of people in our family who work as craftsmen, but also in the military. At least two of my ancestors served in the Swedish army in the 18th century (cavalry).
So it's possible that even in the 17th century there was... And this unites the audience you see in the video, regardless of whether the person is a modern-day Swede or Finn. It is very possible that the ancestors of many of us participated in that 30 years war... And that makes it an emotional experience as well. If I had been at that concert, it is possible that I would have sung along with the audience as well...

Most of the countries that force you to do military service, might not require you to be in reserves. Then there are some countries like US which have mandatory amount, and if that is not reached, they mandate certain people to go to army by law (in US rarely happens, but technically..). Finland is among the few countries that requires you to stay in reserves to be called upon, alongside for only other European nation, Greece.

From the year you turn 18, you can be called up to do basic training with conscription and thus be trained for a position in the Armed Forces. If you enjoy it and find you have the talent for the role, you can continue to work in defense.

    • @BemusingBill
      @BemusingBill  8 месяцев назад +3

I see. Does that mean everyone (I assume) must do at least the training? I know is some countries, you are required to do two years in the service which is training, assignment, and being stationed for the full two years.

    •  8 месяцев назад +1

@@BemusingBill Earlier there was every male at the age of 18 that was recruited to do the mandatory 8 to 14 months (depending on the military role). After the mandatory training, you can be called to a refresher training. A conscript can serve on a maximum of two occasions per year and a total of a maximum of 34 days per year.
There was a period when we stopped calling in personal for mandatory training, but now we have that restored again.
In Sweden, we have a total defense obligation. It includes everyone between the ages of 16 and 70 who resides in Sweden.
Conscription was introduced in Sweden in 1995 and applies to everyone between the ages of 16 and 70 who resides in Sweden. Unlike the previous general conscription, the total conscription covers, since the Riksdag decision made in 2010, both men and women and, as the name suggests, it applies to all parts of the country's defense - not just the military. It can thus be about everything from carrying weapons in battle, traditional military service, to helping in the event of major accidents or natural disasters.
Minors, i.e. those who have not yet turned 18 are exempt from armed combat and can be assigned other tasks, such as showing the way to shelters or the like.
How many that will complete basic training with conscription depends on the need in the Armed Forces' war organisation. Those who have completed the basic training can afterwards apply for continued commitment or employment in the Armed Forces.
At the beginning of the year, the Swedish National Service Agency sends out the enlistment documents to the young people who are required to complete military service and who will turn 18 during the year. The Swedish National Service Agency then selects who will be called up for enlistment, and the most suitable of these are then enrolled in basic education.

We used to have mandatory military service/conscription from 1901 onwards. At its peak some 85% of the male population underwent military training after being deemed fit to do so and lacking any acceptable reason for not doing it.
During the "strategic timeout" between 2010 and 2017 we paused it in peace time, but it has since been reactivated. 3 guesses as to what the main reason was..
That pause and the general slackening of who had to do it (when I had my shot at it pretty much any reason was accepted), has been much to the detriment of our national defence and society at large in my opinion, but that's a different discussion altogether. 😉

The song Livstid i krig is partly about the 30-year war that Sweden was involved in then in the 16th century and forward and sought earlier, so Sweden was involved in many wars. Sweden has had all of Europe under its feet. Today, in 2024, Sweden and Finland are in NATO. Before iNato, Finland and Sweden had and still have a strong military cooperation, and still do.If I remember correctly, Sabaton uses 8 trucks to transport all the equipment and things to be sold at the gigs. As well as a number of buses to drive the workers in, because Sabaton is run as a company and they manage everything themselves, they have 100 employees who manage everything. there is no outsider who is supposed to have paid, except as I said, you manage everything yourself, such as selling tickets, booking hotels, flights, the arenas you will be playing in and more. Sabaton will now in April tune in the USA together with Judas Priest.

Sweden have pendled about the service where some years it were mandatory and some years it wasn't. I were born in 1985 and when I were to go in they basically just asked me what I wanted to serve in (hunter, sniper or pilot) but due to the budget they didn't have any spots open for that my year... they asked me if I wanted to do something else and I said "No because those are the things I'm interested in doing and I can do service next time a spot is open for that" and they said that it were ok and released me teo go home again.. didn't even do any physical or mental tests and were just sent home....
Now in retrospect it were kinda good because my sight wouldn't have made it in any areas that I wanted to serve in -but I still have a loyality to Sweden and the aramy/cops beyond many other people here who would say defund one time but cry out why the phones isn't working when they're in need..
I really like that Sabaton takes real events in every song and makes them a banger!

I was one of the last batch drafted for mandatory service in 2000. A short while after it was technically mandatory but they actually wanted a bare bones skeletal force, so anyone who said they didn't want to go, got off and only volunteers where actually drafted. Yet again later it was all voluntary, but mandatory service is being brought back again due to Vlad and his shenanigans.
I "lost" a year in the military, and we don't get benefits like the US military for loans or other stuff like that. But I don't really regret it as I honestly believe I learned a lot, I learned discipline, built my confidence and teamwork and it made me a better man overall.
At the risk of sounding like a bitter old man... watching the fragile tik tok youth of today... I believe a lot of of them would really benefit from some strict rules, discipline and the confidence you get from military service.
So I'm really not opposed to a mandatory draft, and I'm saying that even though I have two sons of my own. The youth of today generally needs it imo.

Yes, that is correct, before King Gustaf the Second Adolf took over the throne, Sweden's military was in poor condition. He reformed a new law that Sweden would have a professional professional military army and introduced conscription, the Swedish army was Europe's most feared and absolutely the best in all of Europe, with a very high discipline and especially Gustaf Adolf who came up with a new modern combat technique. It was divided into 8 districts. In the years between the 1960s and 1980s, 55,500 men did military service annually, when my father did his military service in 1982, around 45,000 men did their basic training, during those years Sweden could mobilize around 800,000 men and more, then basically all men had was in contact with some kind of weapon and from there we could probably mobilize even more. We had 32 infantry brigades, 6 armored brigades. then our politicians stuck their heads in the sand and scrapped our total total defense after the soviet fell. And now they're standing here with their pants down and panic is setting in, but it's just that it's easy to scrap a defense but it takes a damn long time to build it back up.

@@BemusingBill Thank you my friend, yes I am also very interested in history, everything from the Second World War to the Finnish Winter War, to the Great Nordic War and the 30 years war which Sweden was part of among others. I think I got it from my dad haha. He completed his education in 1982 in Boden as I wrote. Almost at the top of Sweden and shot with GRK = grenade launcher. I remember we were both sick then we were at home and watched Band of Brohters and ordered home pizza it took a while to get through that series hehe but damn what a good series it was. You've got a new subscriber, just found you and thought I'd check out what you posted. Really, Russia is not wise anywhere, in the beginning of the war in Ukraine we had several drones over Sweden. Then we saw on the news that we had started sending out more military on Gotland (Swedish island) to reinforce and place various systems. We thought something was up, at least I did. Great that we are finally in NATO now at last XD. Hope you have a nice Saturday and Sunday mate😀

well..mandatory.. it was up until 1997(or something) it was like a conscript military, after 97 the swedish goverment decided to more or less dismantle the entire military,so it turned in to a very slim force but whit more or less professional soldiers - completley useless and pointless- we have the tech(one of the best and most advanced in the world) but now.. allmost 30 years later, the goverment understand that to have a military-force that can do anything,we cant cut money on it anymore,so the mandatory conscript-system is slowly comming back

  • @SailorYuki
    @SailorYuki 8 месяцев назад

Sweden has mandatory conspription to a certain degree. Only a handfull of elegeble adults are accepted. Anyone at the age of 18 is called. Might be different now that we're in Nato, they need more soliders and officers. Finland has full mandatory conscription where all men at the age of 18 are called. women voulonteer.
As for the 30 year war, in Sweden the nobility were responsible for providing soliders. They usually took young farmer boys, orphans and destitutes. Most of them were 13-16 years old when sent to war. They were brought up and trained to be nothing more than cannon fodder. Many were born during these campains, grew up in war and died in war. The average life span back in the 1600s was around 30, so literally a life time of war. The answer for the line of "who mourns for me" is basically no one.

@BemusingBill Answer to your question yes we have mandatory military service in sweden it has been reactivated we have something else thats called totalförsvarsplikt roughly translated to total defence duty. Which means that every swedish citizen between 16-70 gets called in to service if war breaks out iether as military or civil duty unless you are working in crucial positions eg emergency personell. Sweden had an ambition to be able to mobilize 500000 men in short notice in the 90s today probably less. Me myself did not serve i was placed in the (meat) reserve but allmost everyone i know thats older than me has done it so a fact is that a very large part of the male population born before 1980s has basic military training dont know about the imigrants though.

Dude i dont know where to start, as mentioned before, is manly about the 30 year war but same time, Sweden was at war almost entirely between 1500-1800 with some time of peace in between, but more war than peace. I think about 25-40% of all men in sweden died druing this time i mentioned. and we even had whole families following the army, also prostitutes and the rest of people sorting the things beind the war. For example u need people to make dinner for the troops, and shit like this. So u had childrent who grew up in these camps untill old enough to serve. Im born 64 so im an old guy now and did my service in 84 as most men did during this time. We never went to war though we just trained for it, they removed general service in the late 90´s so now u have a smaller army but better trained also the weapons are better today. Sweden is one of the most peace talking countries today for a good reason. All those years of war ruined our echonomy and killed off a huge part of our mskuline population. Awesome reaction though, ty

Nobody knows if sweden got consctiption. Its complicated. We use to have consctiption. At the time Joakim and per was thst age consctiption was basically mandatory.
Then it was volentary for a few decads and now its.... something in between. Its semi mandatory. Soet of kind of. Rate is something like 15%.
The strange thing is that when the change it to volentary they made consctiption gender neutral. Of cause, when its volentary it really dont matter.
Now when its semi mandarory its still suppse to be gender neutral. I kind of think it will change eventually..
I have 1 son that due to handicap will not be consctipted. I have 3 doughters that at least as the rules stand to day the oldest for sure will be. (She is absolulty roughtless in track and field and taken every year champion so far. Maybe when the boys hit puberty they will have a chanse.

  • @Shiftry87
    @Shiftry87 8 месяцев назад

U kinda have manditory conscription in the way that once u reach a certain age all young men have to do physical aswell as psycological tests that takes place during 1 day and then based on your score u for the most part get 2-3 different sections of the military that u would fit in based on your score and u get to pick which 1 u would prefer. This dosent mean u actually have to do military service becouse Sweden only picks very few ppl that will have to do it. Everyone has to do the tests but very few are called to do military service.
When it comes to girls there is nothing that says that they must do these tests but they can sign up for them if they want to. However when it comes to picked the prefered area they wanna be in based on there score if they dont like any of the options presented to them they can say i dont wanna do any of those so even if they do the tests girls dont have to pick 1 if they dont want to unlike the guys that have to pick 1 regardless if they dont like any of them.

oof, another wonderful song sabotaged by tons of pauses during a "reaction".
At least two pauses of the video before we even hit the effing lyrics! That's bad, soo soo bad.
As if it wasnt enough with 2 pauses within just a few seconds of the video, there's also some talking OVER the music.
AND, a pause during the guitarsolo. There's absolutely ZERO reason to pause a song you react to, just to go on a tirade about new guitarist and other bits and pieces of the stage they're on. That sh-t you can keep til AFTER the bloody song is over.
Would you go to a concert, and yell at the band to "please stop in the middle of the current song, so I can praise you guys for the sandbags on the stage".
To end it on a positive note. I admire the interest you show though. Sad that you did ruin the song with these POINTLESS pauses both during CHORUS and Guitarsolo. That is unforgivable and a bit disrespectful to the music.
But, again, at least you DO actually pay attention and give a sh-t about the song and band. Unlike some reacting channels that just do reactions for quick easy views.

And yes, I do give a shit about the song the band and their fans more than any other reactor out there. Sorry if I 'ruined' it for you. I'm doing my job and there are a hell of a lot of Sabaton fans that enjoy it. I do it for them, not for you.

What language is this? Google translate only came up with more gibberish. Are you saying something about a barn? Is that other word supposed to be 'born'? Dude, I wish! I would have loved growing up on a farm! You're not implying farmers are in awe of such common things as a stadium, are you? Nah, can't be. No one is that stupid! 🤣Actually, I was born in a stadium. Ever hear of Yankee Stadium? Yep, I was born on the first tier, Sec. C, Row 2 Seat 118. My first meal was a stadium hot dog. Only $10 back then, what a barging!
Yeah, bro. A farm would have been a dream. Living in a stadium is tough when you're a kid. And Reggie Jackson could be so mean! But that's life. Wait, what was your question?
