Once again, Sabaton reaches into your soul and squeezes the emotion out of you. Joakim's voice evokes deep emotion, even if you do not understand the tragic words of the song. And using this camera angle, with the lights in the crowd and their singing, makes it hit even harder. And never be sorry about going back to a solo, especially when Hannes is killing it on the drums at the same time. Great reaction and keep rocking.

  • @darkiee69

Unlike most of the songs on the Carolos Rex double album this one isn't the same in English and Swedish. The Swedish version is from the perspective of a young Swedish soldier, the English version is from an outside observers perspective of the entire 30 year war. The other song on the album where the lyrics differ is the song 1648. It's about the Swedish arms siege and ransacking of Prague. The Swedish version is from a Swedish perspective, the English version is from the perspective of the inhabitants of Prague. It was the last battle of the 30 year war. It started in Prague, and ended there too.

Nice reaction, I was at this show (sitting somewhere in the middle of the platform to the left from this view of the stage)
Just before this clip started Joakim said Nobody carries around a lighter anymore but you all have phones right? So turn on your lights for this one. Totally wonderful, my friends, let's sing together en livstid i krig (a lifetime of war)
Needless to say, this was one hell of a show that night sadly, this was just before covid broke out, and started canceling shows, had for once tickets for 5 shows and 1 festival that year and this was the only one I got to attend. As a side note, we were 10766 metal heads at the arena that night, going by statistics in the newspaper and online after the show, the arena was sold out.

En Livstid I Krig is such a emotional song. Absolute masterpiece.

  • @eTower365
    @eTower365 Год назад +11

The lyrics are very emotional in this version. It describes the 30 years war in Europe (1618-1648) from a young Swedish boys perspective, sent out to a war far from home in a small village to a country he dont even know where it is. One can say that this conflict actually was the first world war, because so many nations was involved.

  • @pianoblacksky

Best choir conductors Sweden has! Having been in the audience during one of these performances (though at a much smaller venue) I can say that it's pretty darn powerful live. I hope they do it on their tour now so you can experience it but it might just be something they do in Sweden. Also, YES to more Tommy!

    • @cah11111
      @cah11111 Год назад +8

When they came through the US, they didn't do "A Lifetime of War", but they did do "Gott Mit Uns" and they polled the crowd right before hand asking if they wanted it in English or Swedish, so there's a chance!
Though, another consideration is that the English version of "A Lifetime of War" is completely different lyrically than the Swedish version, with the Swedish version (in my opinion) being a lot more personal for Swedes.

    • @pianoblacksky
      @pianoblacksky Год назад +2

@@cah11111 True, it's basically two completely different songs. Luckily they have plenty of songs that lend themselves to singalongs, Gott Mit Uns being one of them, so no matter where you are and what language you speak a Sabaton concert is an awesome experience.

As a cathedral alto myself, I have made people cry (in a good way!) singing some of the greatest music of the last 500 years (e.g. the Victoria Requiem, Purcell's Funeral Sentences, Mozart Requiem, Howells Hymnus Paradisi), and this has the same power.

Thank you chief for a great reaction! I am just a simple Swede who had the privilege to experience this live. ^^ (and a marine who lucklily so far have not had to face real war). This truly is a great song about a horrible long war, which really lasted more than a lifetime of many. Ref. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thirty_Years%27_War
For the Record, Sabaton and all of us are totally with you against war. Just like they (we all) sing: war often destroys the life of men. Joakim (the singer) even clarified this in one of many interviews, in response to some narrowminded ignorant prejudice: "No, we are absolutely NOT glorifying war. [in that nice, no nonse and matter of fact tone] That would be STUPID! We simply tell [historic] stories, so we might understand and learn from them". And that's just it, we should all remember and learn from the stories of our human history, so as not to repeat the mistakes and create our own future. War has taken far too many young lives already throughout history. And remember, it is never about the violence, it is about what we are defending! About what we value so highly we are willing to risk our lives for it! The heroes of Poland lived this in the 2nd world war [Ref. Uprising and 40:1], and the brave amazing heroes of Ukraine are still living it right now! We have alot of freedoms today which too many are taking for granted. Well, freedom ain't free! Good people fought and died for what we have today. Always remember and appreciate this! Cheers & respect! \m/

Sabaton is a one of a kind band that will not just telling stories/facts about war in the history. They will make history as band. So unique and clever band. Songwriting that many can relate to and they combine it with music that fits every song + a hell of creative live show and staging. Btw, i can also relate to your comparison to Michael Bolton. The key is powerful lyrics that matches sound-settings that triggers emotions in humans. Music stimulates different receptors in our brains and if you add powerful lyrics = A genius song! In ”Livs tid i krig” they use strokes to lift up the lyrics, cuz its a very powerful massage. Small details but very effective. Stroke sounds are one of the most effective sound on our receptors. Good reaction man ! Watched it twice cuz of your way to put words on your feelings and thoughts⭐️ Keep it up

I think the best way to describe Sabaton and this song in particular is this: It grabs you in the feels and CLENCHES down hard and will never let go. Mad Respect for this group: the respect they give for BOTH sides of the conflict, the conscripted soldiers who had no choice and were sent as food for the gun. Sabaton does not take sides. They pay mad respect for both sides, understanding that the front-line soldier is there because they had no choice and, more than likely, had no beef with the enemy in the other trenches as human beings. They know that most, if not all, conflict and war is caused by politicians who have no qualms about sending young boys, children, to fight and die for their endgame. While said children soldiers know yet follow their orders with unwavering loyalty in the conflict. Just like the Christmas Truce of 1914, these BOYS, children, have not beef with those in the other trench and wold enjoy a pint in a pub of their were not forced to point guns at one another.
You talking about Michael Bolton from your childhood...YOU GET IT! There is that one artist, that one song that grabs you in the feels, clenches and never lets go of your heart. The music and the words just grab you like a wee baby crying tears for their mother, begging to be picked up and held in her loving arms. Even when the song is heartbreaking, grabs you, regardless of age, all you can think of when you hear that one song is: mommy, give me a cuddle squoosh, please? Bring you right back to being a tiny baby when emotion was all that drove you. Fathers and Sons. Epically and fundamentally powerful. Fathers and Sons.
Let's just think about that for a moment: Fathers and Sons. Men who were, from the taught to be stoic, emotionless, unfeeling. This Song, breaks that all down. Fathers and Sons.
    Fathers and Sons.

Hello from Sweden! Soon Sabaton will start their Sweden tour (27/1), Hulkoff will be the opening band, so I think you should listen to one of their songs with Joakim on the chorus. Hulkoff - Ibor & Aio feat. Jocke Brodén (Official Audio)

Sabaton to Michel Bolton is a really short step I assume you by now a year later have seen Tommy doing Disneyton Swedish Pagans to Go the Distance music and him covering Go the Distance by now. Couldn’t find you reacting to any of them though.

I know exactly what you are talking about 👍. I have traveled to France 5 times to see Mylene Farmer. I have not got a clue what she sing about. It's the emotions the songs deliver. I hope you seen the sabaton video with English texting by now. Otherwise you really need to do it.

    eng:
I look around and see my home disappearing
My time at home now feels far too short
Mere youth, hardly a man when duty called me
I don't know if I'll see my home again
Among relatives from my village, I went out into battle
    And the world burned
    For the war it can
    Destroy a man
I give my life for my motherland
    But who misses me?
    So see me as that
    A husband, a friend
Father and son who never come home
    But who mourns me?
Went into battle for Sweden, was baptized in blood
Out there, death awaits, not heroism
In fields where kinsmen fall, no song is heard
    Challenging our destinies, once again
    Far from home
Be baptized and die in battle
    And the world burned
    For the war it can
    Destroy a man
I give my life for my motherland
    But who misses me?
    So see me as that
    A husband, a friend
Father and son who never come home
    But who mourns me?
And when my time is up
    Who cares then?
    They are struggling
Does a soldier get a dignified end?
    Get to sleep
    Disappear away
    And never wake up
    For the war it can
    Destroy a man
I give my life for my motherland
    But who misses me?
    So see me as that
    A husband, a friend
Father and son who never come home
    But who mourns me?
    Music: Brodén
    Lyrics: Brodén / Sundström

Good morning Chief and all others 😊. Well, i am a metalhead, but i have to admit, i like other genres too. Actually i have 2 categories in music: like and don't like. And Michael Bolton is 👍! I like his powerful, emotionally loaded voice since i was a girl. Thank ? he got a haircut, looked like a CHIPPENDALE 😝 Yes, both impressing voices, incompareable. Geoff Tates, David Draiman... and the Ladys FLOOR.... Greetings from Germany🤗 and parkinson's sucks⚘ and EMPPU RULES 😎🤘alex
