I'm a 71 year old veteran of the Vietnam War who just recently found Sabaton. Most people ignore veterans, and would just as soon forget they exist. Sabaton is the only ones in the entire musical world that is telling our stories. I don't know if any of them served in the military, but either way, they get us. We know that war is not about glory; it's about death and destruction. And it doesn't matter whether you're Swedish or American like I am, war is war - irrespective of nationally. I am so grateful for Sabaton for not forgetting about us, and telling our stories.
As half german/swedish, I absolutely love this song. My mom being swedish, she showed me this song in Swedish and I fell in love with it. She is the reason I love sabaton. Alskar dig mamma!
As a Swede, this performance has a special place in my music heart. Imagine the joy as a musician to have an audience of thousands sing back your very own lyrics. Must be magical :) The english version (still being really good song) does not go as deep on the thoughts of the individual soldier, which I think is the reason why this one stir up more emotions. Side note: In the YT info section of this video it says it is from the Heroes album, which is incorrect. This is from the Carolus Rex album, which in my opinion is one of their strongest contributions. Thanks for a great channel! Keep them reactions flowing :)
Carolus Rex is by far my favorite album. However, none of their albums are bad. Sure, Metalizer might not be as good as the others but it's still not bad and there are some songs on it that I think are really good. If I'd have to list all albums from best to (can't say worst because none are bad so...) least favorite, it's probably gonna go like this: 1: Carolus Rex 2: Heroes 3: Coat of Arms 4: The Great War 5: Attero Dominatus 6: Primo Victoria 7: The Art of War 8: The Last Stand 9: Metalizer
The thing with this song is that it can be applied to any war or conflict where people have lost someone. That emotion is something that everyone can connect with and that’s why it’s so powerful. In my opinion anyway
Sabaton has mentioned this about their songs that (sadly) war is universal and that's why and how a song, just like the guy reacting here said, about a war he has never even heard of can still speak to you and touch you in this way
This song is from the double album Carolus Rex. It's an album about Swedens time as a European superpower. One album is all the songs in Swedish, the other have them in English. All but two songs have the same lyrics in both languages. The two that aren't the same is this one where the Swedish lyrics is from the point of view of a Swedish soldier and the English lyrics is a wider view about the war from a neutral observer. The other one is the song 1648. That song is about the Swedes ransacking Prague. Once again the Swedish version is from a Swedish point of view, but the English lyrics is from the point of view from the people of Prague. It was the last battle of the 30 year war, and it was all back where it had started 30 years earlier, in Prague.
I never realised that Swedish is very simmular to afrikaans. I understood 60% of the song my mind is blown. Gonna listen alot more swedish songs now. Just another thing i learned from Sabaton

The "Hundred Years' War" (1337-1453) between France and England is normally regarded as the longest war in human history. But just as the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) it was more series of fighting with several non-fighting times in between. In 1642 the Swedish killed part of my ancestors (at the time they were the ones who invaded Germany and were ill-famous for their brutality and lootings; see "Schwedentrunk" - Swedish Drink in the English Wikipedia).
Yeah, if you have like the 30, 80, 100 years wars, and they are actually decades or over a century of pure fighting, there'd be nobody left to actually have a country...
I was in attendance for this. Truly great night. Ive seen Sabaton live more times than K can count but they still blow me away. Great reaction as always. :)
I was at this show (sitting somewhere in the middle of the platform to the left from this view of the stage) Just before this clip started Joakim asked everyone to hold up their cellphones since no one carries around a lighter anymore. Needless to say, this was one hell of a night. Sadly, this was just before covid broke out and started canceling shows (had for once tickets for 5 shows and 1 festival that year and this was the only one I got to attend) Going by facts about the show, we were around 10 766 people in the arena that night.
I think it is not just about the 30 years war but all wars. Wars are terrible but we should never forget about those husbands and sons, and nowadays also wifes and daughters, who died and never come home. I love this song and as a Swede it becomes so much more powerful to hear the lyrics. It always brings tears to my eyes. Love you. ❤️
I am from Sweden and this is a very powerful and emotional song, i got tears in my eyes every time i hear this song, i hope sometime that i can see Sabaton live 🙏🤘
7:30 that Sharlene emotion coming through. LET ME HUG YOU!!! I've seen this song live, in Sweden (not this show) and as a Swede it's as epic as you can get.
I am from Germany. What this video did to me is I need to see them on their home turf, so I talked to a friend in Stockholm and he got us tickets for their show in Stockholm next year in April. So I will see them in my hometown and 4 days later I Sweden and I can't wait. They are a brilliant brilliant live band❤️
I know this song is about Sweden and 30-Years War, but what's so special about it is that it can be applied to pretty much any nation and any war. That's why it's so emotional and beautiful to pretty much everyone who hears it, there is no nation that hasn't experienced the horrors of war. Sabaton is such a special band.
This song hits so hard. As u say the war went on for 30 years and at this time it was common followed the armies out in the field. "Baptized in blood" symbolizes the fact many children was born in field, their fathers where killed and then they grew up to be killed themself.
This song, No Bullets Fly, Christmas Truce, Final Solution, The Price of a Mile, The Hammer has Fallen, Ballad of Bull... They all give me goosebumps and all kind of different emotions.
Great reaction to a fantastic song. Sadly, 30-year war was not the longest, war between England and France lasted for 116 years- i don't know if there was one longer than that
The Reqonquista is the longest war known to man. It was a conflict between the Christians on the Iberian Peninsula and the Umayyad. It was a conflict that lasted 781 years. Even now there are some militant conflicts that have lasted over 100 years in total.
@@DennisVlaanderen That's the one I was thinking of too. And after than the Roman - Persian war lasting some 681 years. Which I think overlapped with the Roman - Germanic tribe wars which lasted some 588 years.
They mean a constant war, Rome had periods in their wars so did England Vs France! 30y war didn't have any pauses/trusses, people was born in to war and died during it. Remember this war effected all Swedes, since it's a small country 🤟🇸🇪
Depending on how you look at it, the war between Rome and Carthage might still be ongoing. They never signed a peace treaty because Carthage was destroyed.
To be honest, i have probably seen most reactiosn out there to this song. I have been lucky enoguh to be in the crowd chanting this song back to sabaton three times now since it was released and it is always the highlight of the show. The subtitles givs you the general idea what the song is about but it does not do the lyrics justice at all. The way this song hits as a swede, standing in that crowd is just something else! Loved seing your reactions to it and i hope some day you have the possibility to go see them live and witness the awesomeness that is sabaton live! :) Keep doing what you do and i promise to keep watching. I wish you all the best! /a proud Swede!
At this time in Sweden, every family was expected to provide one male to be a soldier of the Crown. Sometimes 2, 3 or more depending on how many male children they had. If they didn't have children, they would go themselves. They would raise these children, and when they came of age, 16-17, they would be collected and usually never seen again. All they could do was to pour their knowledge into them and make them as strong as possible, so maybe they would come back one day. That was the reality of those days. On all sides, not just Sweden.
1:33 Hell no! There was also The Hundred Years War between France and England that was actually 116 years and I'm not even sure if it was the longest war ever.
Was at this concert and less than a week after this the pandemic started so it was actually the last concert for two years now. Amazingly emotional, I have been to other Sabaton shows where the crowd sang along to this song, but not like this, 10 000 people where singing and crying all around me for the entire song, definitly one of the best concert moment for me. The entire show was great (amaranthe and apocalyptica was the other acts) but this is a very special performance and I'm so happy I got to experience it live.
The Beatles had it right - 'and in the end the love you get is equal to the love you give.' Your enjoyment and passion is obvious so what do you think you will get back for us the viewers who enjoy your work?
I'm swedish, and my father and i have both been in "war".. and since i have 1 older sister and one younger brother (and ofc my mom) the line that hits me the most is: "A father and son that never returns home". That has been inpregnated in my mind to allow me to use every strenght i got to survive and come home to the people waiting for my return.
I want to recommend a few Sabaton songs, namely: Christmas Truce, No Bullets Fly and lastly Nightwitches.. Sabaton is amazing and I wish history class had had this when I went to school. Thanks to all veterans here for your service, I wish you all the best! ❤️💙
An exelent song, and you cant help to feel patriotic and sad at the same time when litening to it. Everyone should care about history to some degree, or we are destined to repete it, sure you dont have to be a history nut, but having some idea of wher we come from and the horrible things that were done in the past will help us do better in the future.
Homies, one of my top 10 performances of all time. The view from backstage is also unique. Laduma! The first time I heard it, it was snot en trane and chills from head to toe.
For your info there is two version of this song, EN Livstid I Krig in swedish with the lyrics showing the point of view of a swedish solder getting involved in this war and the english version, A lifetime of war, showing the 30 years war from the other counrties point of view ! To me, the swedish version is the best one by far !!! For your info, i'M a "same direction" guy hahaha
En livstid I Krieg, oh yes I have wanted to see your reaction to this performance. I like the song in both versions and THIS performance is beyond incredible. This is like their home town or something but really happy you two get to see this one
The lyrics of this Swedish version seem to be a little bit different from those of the English version: They are more from the personal perspective of a single soldier while the English are more from an overview - but they are great as well. Well, long wars: At the late medieval times there was a series of conflicts between England and France that are usually called the 100 years war. Later then we have the 80 years war - a series of conflicts in which the Netherlands struggled for independence from the Spanish empire. Parallel to the end phase of that war we had the 30 years war - which this song is about. That war started out as an inner German conflict between the German Emperor and some of his Lords. Reason for that were some religious issues because some of the German Lords had converted to protestant confession while others - including the Emperor himself - still were catholic. Out of political reasons other countries like Spain, France, Denmark and Sweden joined in. So Germany became a battle field for foreign powers. BTW the Swedish only had half of the fun because king Gustavus Adolphus and his Swedes came on after king Christian and his Danes had allready withdrawn with a bloody nose. That war has left deep traces in German history and culture - even in our fairy tales.
Harry, your first shot at the title, actually wasn't that far off. The ending is a hard g, and thats it :) But A for effort. Love the reaction as always. I do feel you react the right way. No pauses
I just realized you already did Christmas Truce .. I admit! I'm retarded, and I stand by it! But I forgive you, for releasing it, and not telling YT to tell me .. :)

WOW what a wonderful reaction. I cry almost every time I listen to this one. It is so beautiful. Please can not make their new song 'Soldier of Heaven'
love your reactions as always. i’d love to see the band “citizen soldier” added to the list. their most recent album “this is your sign (part1)” is filled with amazing songs, and very powerful lyrics that partly saved my life. my personal favourite “always december”
I love this song but I have said before that I am absolutely in awe hearing the crowd. It's no joke that this time Joakim wasn't leading, he was the background singer. He could've gone for a beer or two without anyone really noticing. Sabaton was playing really great on this one, but the crowd was the star of this show
You should react to Sabaton's live performance of "Great War" at Wacken 2019. To celebrate their 20th anniversary they brought back former band members and performed on 2 stages at once.
amazing song, amazing people...as a polish we can uderstand pain of war.Maybe thats why this one makes me cry..Sabaton makes also few songs for Poland...NEVER FORGET people who died in war around the world....big big respect to Sabaton
As a Swede i am so sorry for what we did to your land and people back in the days. I am tsking my family to Poland in a week, we will spend a lot of time in museums and I will make sure to teach them of your strifes.
A very nice reaction (as always!) for this ace Music from Sabaton. They just can’t get enough credit for the joy they bring with their great (war) Music. The 30 year war is not the longest war. I am not sure which is the longest but in the Netherlands we have one we call the 80-Year war (1558-1648) (which is not entirely true due to a 12 year truce in the middle!). Fun fact: both wars ended in the same year!
actually there was a "war" between the Dutch 7 provences and the British scilly islands that lasted for 335 years (1651-1986) no shots were fired and no casualties.
Thanks Harry! Thanks Sharlene! Love you two! Can only echo what Tobias said... Since discovering Sabaton, it's become as clear as your tears that the passion they display and the passion they inspire is a self-fulfilling exchange of energy.. Their music and lyrics are not political statements. They write about the human element, the loss, the heroism, the pain and the spirit of men and women. And the audience reaction....off the charts. And the real genius is having a song for every country they perform for! And like or love it, the listener actually learns something. You two don't know how much joy you give an aging music enthusiast! I wouldn't have given this a listen if you hadn't posted it. Thank you! Your biggest fan!
This song is about the Thirty Years War that was fought between 1618 and 1648. The Kingdom of Sweden was a major power in Europe at the time and this war was the bloodiest one until that time. The Swedish lyrics reflects the suffering of the individual soldier and the fact that one went to war, had a newborn child in the beginning but the war was so long that it happened that the child all grown up and had to fight in the same war where his father fought or still fighting.
looks like its the 2018 Concert from Gothenburg max capacity is 14 000 Great Northern War of 1700-1721, in which the Swedes locked horns with a coalition of Russia, Denmark, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Saxony
Yeah, Sweden began to participate the war 1630 and till the end, where Sweden was a main power with there's war tactics, wich is to day a ground for modern war tactics.
I have to say this is war. I was waiting for march order and supposed to be sent to hotspots secretly 1980-1990, But we manage to stay out of war at that time. War is hell nothing else and we have to make sure to not fall in to it ever. Dialog are the best instrument to stay put. STAY A LIVE. Thank`s Sabaton. Thanks Song/Thongs I´m a warrior but for peace this time and I play also. we need peace warriors. U are two of them my friends. Love from Sweden.
There's literally a war that lasted for (over) a century, hence the name the Hundred Years War. So no: this war, which was part of the Eighty Years War, was waaaaaay off from being the longest war in history, especially since the "Swedish phase" was not even close to lasting 30 years.
Sabaton fan for 16 years, (I am Swedish and they are the best band in sweden) and i love your reactions to this fantastic band!. This is definiteley (spelling) worth a sub from me.
Darn my eyes were wet. If only war is not existing, if only human hearts were not fill with thrst for power and dominance, if only we can all live free without threat and fear of war so that nobody, nobody experience loss. I wish that we live in peace. Naive wish i know, becuase human heart can be warm but it can be cold, merciless. Our species will never learn.
The Hundred Years War, the longest war in world history, was a war between England and France that took place, with minor interruptions, between 1337-1453.
Longest war in the world was the Hundred Years’ War, which - despite the name - lasted 116 years. It was fought by England and France over the course of several conflicts with intermittent periods of peace.
1:40 One could argue that the mindanao conflic is the longest war since there was continuous skirmishes on that island ever since the Spaniards conquered it until fairly recently in one way or another (just the fighting against the Spaniards lasted over 300 years)
The Reconquista, Anno Domini 718 to Anno Domini 1492, is the longest recorded conflict in history. In my opinion, this does hold true. However, the Reconquista would be more accurately described of a series of protracted wars that happened in the afformented time period. There were stretches of time where there was nominal peace and times where there was the medieval equivalent of the concept of "total war". The Thirty Years' War was exceptional in that, while there were 3 separate phases (each lasting ~8 years) there was no "rest period" so to speak, the peace treaties that marked the three phases lasting only a couple of years at most. It was also one of the bloodiest wars in Europe, in terms of lives lost in relation to total population. It was definitely the bloodiest in German history. According to the Red Cross, 20%* of the total population in Europe died, estimates ranging from 4-12 million lives lost to the ravages of war. They also state that some areas of Europe saw as high as a 60% fall in population. The Reconquista undoubtedly had similar effects, however I think the Thirty Years' War is a much better icon of what happens during war, outside of WWI and WWII. In a mere 30 years, Europe saw a loss of life on a scale that would only be overtaken by WWI and WWII, at least in Europe. Asia saw some bloodier ones, such as the War of the Three Kingdoms. If you really wanna know more about the 30 Years' War and Reconquista, recommend you do some Wikipedia browsing. Teachers say that it isn't reliable, but that isn't the case for most historical events, since those articles are rather heavily curated. *As stated before, most of the fighting occurred in Germany, so a good majority of this number would be Germans, the rest being Austrians (however at the time there was no great distinction between the Austrians and the rest of the Germans in the Holy Roman Empire), Czechs, Danes, Dutch, French, Hungarians, Spaniards and Swedes. Non-German deaths were usually men of fighting age, serving in armies. You could also further qualify the various German Duchies and City-States, but those would count as german. @@VainerCactus0 I mean if it was destroyed then Rome's wargoals were completed therefore it is over.
Her reaction to this was so raw and honest I love it
To be honest, i have probably seen most reactiosn out there to this song.
Great reaction as always! "No bullets fly" next? 😀
On all sides, not just Sweden.
the best reaction on this song ...PERIOD!!!!! the easiest subscription,i ever made...I love you guys....greetings from Greece and take care!!!
the bit where Joakim kneels and bows to the crowd is just amazing, he adores how they get involved and sing
The original swedish version is so much better than the english one. Thank you for choosing the original :)
If we don't or won't reflect we also don't AND won't progress 🙌
Homies, one of my top 10 performances of all time. The view from backstage is also unique. Laduma! The first time I heard it, it was snot en trane and chills from head to toe.
You guys need to hear "No bullets fly" Sabaton ❤❤ (see the music video)
Thank you for the reaction, always nice to see a pure effect :)
This song hits me so hard at this time, this week. Pray for our brothers and sisters, stay safe all.
I did stand to the left and the crowd singing the first vers was amazing.I love your reactions and keep going strong.
Jag också, mitt absolut bästa konsertminne. Längtar så in i h.lvete till Svergieturnen och Halmstad.

En livstid I Krieg, oh yes I have wanted to see your reaction to this performance. I like the song in both versions and THIS performance is beyond incredible. This is like their home town or something but really happy you two get to see this one
Götegorg (Gothenburg) is quite far from Falun though :D
A lot of Swedish metal bands are from (or are at least based in) Göteborg (Gotheburg) but Sabaton comes from Falun.
En livstid i krig*
The lyrics of this Swedish version seem to be a little bit different from those of the English version: They are more from the personal perspective of a single soldier while the English are more from an overview - but they are great as well.
Well, long wars:
At the late medieval times there was a series of conflicts between England and France that are usually called the 100 years war.
Love the fact that this is filmed from the stage, facing out. Such a different experience!
You two are an incredible couple and your reactions especially to my favourite band Sabaton. I live on my own and the both of you make my day when I see your reaction video. Take care and stay safe. British Sabaton Fan 💂♂️💂♂️💂♂️💂♂️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🏴🇿🇦
WOW what a wonderful reaction. I cry almost every time I listen to this one. It is so beautiful. Please can not make their new song 'Soldier of Heaven'
I love all your reactions, especially for Sabaton. Thanks for the true emotions…. What a great band..
👍 It´s absolutely normal to cry to this song. ❤
I feel honored to be part of Your community. Honestly, You two deserve the best from life. Much much love from Hungary, Peter
I think that the longest war was the 100 year war between Britain and France between 1337 to 1453
You guys are so fucking precious! I´ve seen a couple of your Sabaton reactions and cant believe you hadnt reacted to this one before!?
this is so awsome!! As a Swede this song really gets to me.. Thank you!
love your reactions as always. i’d love to see the band “citizen soldier” added to the list. their most recent album “this is your sign (part1)” is filled with amazing songs, and very powerful lyrics that partly saved my life. my personal favourite “always december”
@@adamfabian9398 this is past.. we can't keep hates in our hearts 😊i wish you and your family spend amazing time in Poland 🤗Regards
I just can't stop listening to this song.
listen to this once a day for almost a year
This one of my favourite live performances the other one is live at Wacken with 40 to 1. Even my daughters love this song.
England and France fought for 116 years in "the Hundred Years' War", between 1337- 1453.
Just love that we broke up in tears at the same time, love you two.
Not sure if you know, but the guy playing the drums is Floor's husband.
With her mother in Nightwish and her father in Sabaton Freya is a lucky girl 🤘
HISTORY IS EVERYTHING.
This song always gets me emotional🤘🏼🇸🇪
looks like its the 2018 Concert from Gothenburg max capacity is 14 000
Great Northern War of 1700-1721, in which the Swedes locked horns with a coalition of Russia, Denmark, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Saxony
They sing about the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648) .. Where Sweden became a great power 💙💛
Yeah, Sweden began to participate the war 1630 and till the end, where Sweden was a main power with there's war tactics, wich is to day a ground for modern war tactics.
this songs makes me cry , the only pride in my life is sabaton enjoy
From my hometown of Gothenburg - Scandinavium arena.
I was at the Prague show and tried to get tickets for this but show was outsold!
Our species will never learn.
one of powerfull moments was when Joakim play on keyboard song The Hammer Has Fallen, it was in Pilsen in 2013... amazing moment...
Love you two!
The Hundred Years War, the longest war in world history, was a war between England and France that took place, with minor interruptions, between 1337-1453.
War is such a scary thing!!
Mothers cry, family cry..visiting a grave..
Commenting so you maybe listen to this again
Peace and love, stay safe
Longest war in the world was the Hundred Years’ War, which - despite the name - lasted 116 years. It was fought by England and France over the course of several conflicts with intermittent periods of peace.
Have you ever heared of the hundread years war ? It was longer than the 30 years war.
PLEASE you BOTH have to react to sabaton no bullets fly (the animated video) Keep the videos coming! Great job!

As a swede I totally love you guys for this reaction.
I am not sure but I think that the Korean War started in 1950 and is still on till this day. You have the 100 and 80-year old wars and the punic War
I really would love to see a video of you reacting to the Sabaton song Ballad of Bull. A great ballad and a really great story in the song.

one of france and england numerous wars is the century war, that lasted officially 101 years. Though it wasn't as continuous as the later wars, it still is a lot. On the french side, Joan of Arc is famous for leading a downed france back in shape.
I also could go on and on and on and on. So I will say thank you for what you do. Keep on keeping on
