This is my reaction to Sabaton - 40:1 (Woodstock Festival 2012)
In this video I react to a live performance from Sabaton at Polish rock music festival Woodstock 2012 where they performed the song 40:1 live

This song is about the Battle of Wizna during II World War, also called Polish Thermopylae

Sabaton is a Swedish band that sings about historical military events, battles and persons.
There are several other songs from Sabaton from Woodstock I can recommend. Ghost division, about Rommels Blitzkrieg attacks, and Uprising, about the Polish resistance against the Germans during WWII.
Always overload of energy from the band and the audience!

Sabaton has few other songs from Polish history:
- Aces on Exile
- The Uprising
- Winged Hussars
- Inmate 4859
And also, about Holocaust, the song Final Solution. That's about Jews, but huge part of them were Polish Jews.
Partly about Poland (polish soldiers) is "Union" about battle of Monte Cassino
I was there under the flag.... It was really hot with everyone jumping and going crazy, but oh man it was so worth it... Will never forget it ❤️
Damn...that must have been glorious 😍I'm Swedish, I get the same feelings from the Carolus Rex album, so I know. Sabaton is master at bringing out those feelings 🥰
@@BerishStarr they are the best history teachers that you never had
Sabaton is from Sweden but they like Polish history
Yeah, Sabaton recently recorded a song in which he praises the "brave Soviet soldiers defending Stalingrad" 🤯
@@adriannaszudrzynska9371 One does not exclude the other. All the more so because the defeat of the Germans at Stalingrad was a very important moment in terms of the fate of World War II, and besides, it was a battle requiring great heroism. Soviet soldiers near Stalingrad did not behave like Soviet bandits and marauders in Poland and cowardly, drunk Russian generals who blew up Polish monuments and pretended to capture cities (from which the Germans had previously fled).
they like all history from all countrys. Especially if its an untold story
Yeah, I'm waiting for the song on "brave Nazi soldiers" 🤡
Raginis, Leonidas from Poland.
Something to keep in mind about Pol'and'Rock (Woodstock) festival is that its a one in a lifetime event even for big artists. You rarely get to rock in front of a 500K - 750K crowd that most likely sings alongside you your songs.
Everytime I hear this song, and Uprising, I just cant hold my tears back. What a song. What a tribute. Respect to Sabaton!

PS. I tak, byłem wtedy tam pod tą flagą, mega energia (;
You can learn about the history behind this song from the Sabaton History channel on youtube. Here is a link to the first episode, about song 40:1 on the Battle of Wizna in 1939 ruclips.net/video/Qpb8gTSMUbo/видео.html

If you want to know everything about the story described in the song, watch Sabaton 40:1 history Chanel ;)
i was there, it was an awesome and unforgettable experience. I admire Sabaton for topic they are talking about in most of their songs. World needs them.
You said in one moment something like "wonder how crazy guys under this flag must be right now".. well it as hot as f..k but everyone still enjoyed performance and bounced and all party stuff. Yes I was in this crowd, in middle of red Polish flag stripe away from scene and little on left from its center. It was amazing performance of Sabaton. At this time I was 18 and it was my favorite band. My patriotism, interest over history of Poland and WWII and this type of music accumulates in this band. So I had to go to Brudstok (Polish joke name of this festival eng. Dirtstock). Two thing about things you said also - crowd is so packed because -at the time - it was highest amount of people on performance of one band in whole history of Woodstock. Sabaton thanks to 40:1, later thanks to Uprising from "nobody knows some metal band" became in Poland stars. Maybe still not many people likes metal music but their singing about our history was big case in Poland. Main TV stations, radio stations, hell even news websites and newspapers were making news about them. We Poles like when some foreigner say something good about Poland. In 2012 they were main band for whole festival. Sabaton guys told earlier that Poland is a country where their music gets biggest popularity at first, because we care about our history.
And about this flag - earlier that year Euro 2012 took place in Poland and on Ukraine. This big flag was shown on fan stands during third match of our team against Czechia. Administrator and promotor of Woodstock borrowed this flag from owners especially for this performance and did not tell anything to guys from Sabaton. This flag was surprise for them and some kind of "thank you" for singing about our history and promoting it.
Excellent reaction. All the videos of Sabaton at Woodstock are awesome and are typical of Sabaton concerts, regardless of size. They go all out for the entire set, have a lot of interaction with the crowd, and are obviously having the time of their lives on stage. I saw them in Oct 2022 at the Ryman Theater in Nashville (2700 capacity) with Epica opening and it was the best show I have ever been to.
After this song, the entire audience - 700 k people sang the polish national anthem.
I always get goosebumps, when i listen to this
Thanks for this video. This is really great band. And they do such a good job, for the people to remember about historical events and heroes.
Thank you!
Cool
👍👍👍
It was about the battle of Wizna that took place between 7th and 10th September 1939, when the Polish army fought with German Werhmacht. Around 700 Polish soldiers defended the fortified line against 40 000 German soldiers. The commanding officer of the Polish forces was Władysław Raginis. At the end he refused himself to surrender and he committed suicide by detonating a grenade on his neck, not wanting to be taken by Germans. The battle is often called "The Polish Thermopylae" (as a very small number of soldiers defended the piece of homeland with great courage against the vastly larger number of enemies, like in the ancient battle of Thermopylaebetween Persians and Spartans).
Yes!!!! Sabaton is great!! You must do "Inmate 4859" and "Uprising" by Sabaton. Much history of Poland right there!
'Uprising' (the Warsaw Uprising) at the same Woodstock concert is worth watching. Sabaton also has a history channel that provides a background to their songs. My favourite Sabaton song about Polish battles is the "Winged Hussars'
'Uprising' next

I was there. I've been a fan of the band ever since. The flag was from the Euro 2012 football championships that took place in Poland and Ukraine that year.
Sabaton didn't know about this flag was suprise for them from Poland ❤ I was there under this flag was my 1st Woodstock 😊😊
My favourite Sabaton song is En livstid i Krig. Their performance of it ,in Gothenburg as a part of The Great Tour , is epic. If you want to listen to it, listen to the Swedish version with the English subtext. This song is both powerful and moving.
I love that You put on my recemendation.. It was a great gig :D

Sabaton is a Swedish band with a loooong list of history based music.
Sabaton also has an award winning history channel that gives background to over 100 if their songs (not music award, academic, aimed at education of the public) .

Sabaton ? YEAH ! New sub here
Been a fan of Sabaton for almost 20 years now and finally saw them live in April... this is a HUGE rabbithole with so many amazing songs and stories to explore and react to.. always make sure to check out their "Sabaton History" channel, too, where they talk about the stories behing the songs! For just SOME other songs to explore, let me request "Swedish Pagans" live at Wacken 2019, "En Livstid I krig" live at Gothenburg, "No bullets fly", official animated video, "Hearts of Iron" and from the newer songs "Bismarck" official music video, "Valley of Death" , Stormtroopers" and "Lady of the Dark", official animated video. Thanks for your great reactions, always a pleasure to watch! Greetings from Northern Germany :)
I always wanted to be there...
I was there! :D And very close to the stage too. We had to get there hours before and listen to other bands, which were great as well
You did an episode about Witold Pilecki. You should listen to the song created by Sabaton about him. Inmate 4859
Fun fact: I was at the 2013 Concert.
It was, by far, one of the WILDEST times I've ever had in my life.
I was there, half milion people on this concert and our flag , fantastic memories
2012 i was there, the concert was Epic

I doubt they perform this song at gigs in Germany, but yeah, they have an equivalent track about a german naval ship from ww2, this kinda sums up their trustworthiness for me
Thank You
If you react to music relating to Poland, you must watch Marcin guitar player - his performances are stunning.
The Winged Hussars never lost a battle in 123 years. Most of those battles were against vastly outnumbered enemys !
Sabaton the best, Warszawa wacz :)
thank you
The Battle of Wizna, also known as "Polish Thermopylae", was one of many clashes with the Germans during the defensive war of 1939. For two days, the Polish unit of only 720 soldiers resisted the much larger German forces under the command of Heinz Guderian.
Damn... I got something in my eye...
Budka Suflera - "Jest taki samotny dom", Bajm - "Biała armia", Lady Pank - "Stacja Warszawa".
The song "40:1" by Sabaton is a tribute to the heroes of the Battle of Wizna, in which fewer than 600 Polish soldiers held off over 30 000 German soldiers for 3 days in September 1939. The song's title "40:1" refers to the overwhelming odds of the battle and the lyrics tell the tale of the brave Polish soldiers defying the odds against them and ultimately prevailing. The chorus of the song encapsulates this message, with lyrics such as "Spirit of Spartans/ Death and glory/ Soldiers of Poland/Second to none/ Wrath of the Wehrmacht brought to a halt." Through the song, Sabaton shows tribute and respect for the Polish soldiers for their courage, bravery, and heroism in the face of such extreme odds.
On the woodstock (polish rock festival) it is normal
Amazing performance, but the high point of that concert imho was "Uprising". They turned the energy knob to eleven on that one and they made an official live video out of it.
You might like their song about the battle of Bannockburn.
Sabaton went crazy? Did you hear crowd in background? They WERE ON PAIR WITH CONCERT AT TIMES WHEN IT COMES TO VOLUME OF SOUND.
Have you heard of General Mazcek?
He and his men were proper Heroes. They were freeing cities in France Belgium and The Netherlands at the end of the second world war. Particularly Breda in The Netherlands is grateful. Rather than bombarding the city to get the Nazis out they went in with handguns to not cause collateral deaths and damage.
Pol’and’Rock formerly known as ‘Przystanek Woodstock’ is a free festival. Come over if you fancy 🤘The biggest crowd attended the festival was at The Prodigy I believe, around 1 million people! I’ve been there in 1998, 4th edition of “Przystanek Woodstock”, there was around 150k crowd, no big international bands, just old school polish rock, folk, ska, punk etc. bands! Best festival ever by miles!
BTW before that there was Jarocin Festival, check it out. 80’s tho, not the recent one….
Jest moc
You need to know that each polish person could be upset with their country but they will always protect it if someone tries to insult it and I'm not talking about constructive criticism because that we are okay with. We have imprinted in our blood what had happened in the past and what our past generations went through for us to be free.
Come to Poland for the next year Pol'and'rock! You will not be disappointed in any way. I guarantee that you have never been in such a festival ever before. You can even DM me, we always camp near the main stage. Not so close to be able to talk and sleep but not too far to listen secondary concerts from camp ;)

If you like polish rock scene, you may want to check something more modern, there’s that annual initiative called męskie granie, they gather together artists that are popular now together with artists that are legends of the polish scene and they make music together. I’d recommend “początek” and maybe “I ciebie też, bardzo”. It’s more pop oriented but the lyrics are another level and good music value
there was aprox.350-400 thousand of people:)
