The whole of the Carolux Rex album is in two languages. Swedish and English. But Sabaton didn't want to just do the same song in two languages. No, they went even further. In Swedish, the songs are about the individual involved. Those who were there. In English, the songs are from the point of view of an outsider looking in. Both versions have different lyrics and meanings.
@@Saintedlight i still regret my attitude towards mandatory swedish lessons during my school years. "Thanks" to that my swedish is weak at best, understand some but i can pretty much order a beer in swedish but that's about it
Thanks! That's really cool. As a Swede, I've more or less exclusively listened to the Swedish version. Reading the English lyrics, it's more focused on the 30 year war and the madness of going to war in the first place, whilst the Swedish lyrics are generalised to the view-point of any soldier in any war.
Yes, Sabaton are important. They help maintain a collective memory of humanity's darkest moments -- and the glimmers of hope that shine through even there and then, for victims and perpetrators, for victors and defeated alike. Where there is life, there is hope.
One of my favorite things about Sabaton is how they do not glorify war. How can a band with the songs Lifetime of war, Price of a Mile, Cliffs of Gallipoli and so many more where they sing of the death, the pointlessness and the tragedy that is war ever glorify it. They may sing of war but they do so to remember and honor the men and women who fought and died in the struggles of their times. Even their songs about heroes often reflect on the horrors they suffered, Audie Murphy and his PTSD, Bull Allen and his humbleness, Lawerence of Arabia and his disputed legacy in the middle east. They do a brilliant job of teaching us all through their amazing music so that we never forget what these Men and Women suffered through.

@@JoJoLewis The other Aussie centric song Sabaton do is "The Ballad of Bull", about Corporal Leslie 'Bull' Allen, a stretcher bearer who, one day, repeatedly ran into enemy fire and saved 12 US soldiers. One at a time. Along with the above recommended No Bullets Fly and Cliffs of Gallipoli it's one of the ones that always chokes me up (as a Pommy, Price of a Mile also gets me somewhat, I'm from one of the towns that raised a Pals Brigade that went over the top on the first day of the Somme).

I found your channel one hour ago and have been watching every single Sabaton reaction you have done and I have to say… You’re the most genuine man I’ve seen so far react to their music. I was on this very concert, front row and sang my lungs out. This was and will always be the best concert I’ve ever been to. Nothing has and will be able to top this. I went to the concert to support my band mate which is the guitarist in Sabaton and I will carry this concert with me forever. Thank you!
A Sabaton song singing about historical and heroic events is amazing and it's aplified since you know they are doing it specifically for their kinsmen, I was in that crowd and the energy and feeling that gave you stuck for days.
I can recommend the English version of this song as well "A Lifetime of War". It's, just like this one, about the 30 year war, but more as a whole, not from the perspective of soldiers. More about how stupid war is, especially one that goes 30 years, which back then was about the average lifespan of a human.
Bear in mind, the average lifespan tends to get thrown off by the drastically higher mortality rate for young children and infants until you get into the modern era, since they're a part of that average (and both rates were still quite high in the early 17th century). If you could make it through childhood, you had pretty decent odds at a much longer life than that. But the 30 Years War is still insane to think about. It was entirely possible for someone to be born during the war, grow up, and fight in the exact same war their father fought in. And I'm sure plenty of people did, especially Germans.

Welcome to the metal rabbit hole that is sabaton. No bullets fly, is another great song. Friendship and mercy in the middle of the most terrible war the world has ever seen. There is an animated video about it, would highly recommend it.
I witnessed this song live once in my native language (swedish) and all i remember is that i was entranced. I loved the song before. But hearing them, their presence, the publics engegamanet and people understanding it's not really about one nations soldiers. It's about every soldiers and their families struggles. I hope I can experience it again, I love history and what ever you think of any nation declaring war or defending their nation. Remember that every soldier has their story and a family.

This song is about the Thirty Years' War that dominated central Europe in the 17th century (1618-1648). To this day it is one of the longest and bloodiest wars in history, with the death toll falling between 4 million and 8 million. Many of the fatalities were not even from active warfare, but famine and disease also plagued the area, upping the casualties that much more. Casualties reached such a high number that many Swedish men were forced to fight when they had barely reached manhood, and sometimes even before then. Which really makes the title of the song ("A Lifetime of War" in English) hit a little harder. Men basically spent their entire lives at war, no chance for a peaceful life. The was about the battle between Catholics and Protestants, and at some point during the war almost every major player/Country in Europe was a part of it. This Swedish version of the song tells the story from a Swedish soldier's point of view. You should also check out the English version; it is not a direct translation from the Swedish, but it rather tells the story of the war from the perspective of the outside people, those not involved directly in the war but were affected by it. The lyrics hits hard, but it also shows that even when times change, new technology comes, one thing remains constant and that is the horrors of the war, both those who fall in it and those who survive and have to live with nightmare every day (ptsd). Greetings from Denmark.

What I love about The Great War live videos is the perspective, everything is down stage, towards the crowd, like Sabaton sees it. Makes it so much better than only seeing the band. If you want to check out 40-1 or Ghost Division, I can't recommend the live versions from Woodstock too much. There you actually have half a million or more fans singing along. Pol'and'Rock, as it is known today, is a big free festival and Sabaton might have broken everything there... And Sabaton is very important to Polish people, they instilled a new national pride into the nation. They performed a free concert on the day, on the hour, of the start of WW2, on the actual battlefield, with a big reenactment. They got a cavalry saber from a Polish Archbishop, who got boo'd as he came on stage, then said something along the lines of "The Polish church bows to Sabaton". They are indeed a different breed. (Got the wrong war, was WW2, not 1)
@@JoJoLewis Yeah, they put on quite a stage show. I'm looking forward to seeing them live next year. My husband and 2 sons are joining me for this one.
I missed seeing them in the states by 4 days, when judas priest unfortunately had to cancel the tour when one of the guitarists had some heart problems.
i was on the concert recorded in that video. i can't remember my seat number but i had a great time. i even have the t-shirt for that specific concert. i still feel the heat from the flamethrowers even though i was seated far away from them. i still have chills when i watch the vid i recorded in there. i was seated somewhere up on the right from the camera.
Not gonna lie; im a bit surprised nobody's had you do "Cliffs of Gallipoli" by Sabaton yet. That song, maybe more than this one, sums up their stance on war so well. Respect the warrior, hate the war.
This song for many Swedes is like then you think of Gallipoli. Happened to see your reaction to that song earlier this evening. The 30 years war in Europé ended 1648. During these 30 years every year the Swedish army fighting in nowadays Germany was filled up with newly conscripted men sent out from Sweden to the war. We drained our country for men of fighting age for 30 years! Most of them approx. 75% died in camp of sickness, cold and starvation, not on the battlefield in a countryside devastated by warfare. No farming or harvesting posssible due to strife, pestilence raging. Millions of civilians dying also, for the same reason. But this song can also describe any war, anywere.
I was att that on that specific concert were this video was shot and the crowds singning drowned the band music more than once not just that particular song baut mutiple time on many songs Can highly recomend to see them on a live concert
I was at this show (Sitting somewhere in the middle of the platform to the left from this view of the stage) Just before this clip started Joakim asked everyone to hold up their cellphones, since no one carries around a lighter anymore. Needless to say, it was one hell of a show, sadly this was just before Covid started canceling shows (had tickets for around 5 shows and 1 festival that year and this was the only one I got to attend) going by facts from this show there were 10 766 people at the arena that night.
Well, this is it to be on a sabaton-concert. That's why I love their concerts, why I love their music. they are absolutly brilliant in what they do. The lyrics are allways on point and the crowd goes with every note! it's awesome. If you ever have the chance to get to a concert - do it. It's just awesome.

If you are into crowd interaction there is a new band to the channel that I can highly suggest: Blind Guardian, an iconic metal band from Germany, with „The Bard‘s Song & Valhalla“ from Wacken Festival 2016. it‘s a double, that has to be seen together. They‘ll surprise you with the first song. And afterwards the second song will surprise you again in comparison to what you‘ve had heard just before. Btw: If you pass Wacken grounds and listen carefully, you can still hear the crowd singing. 🤘
Check up SABATON - Ghost Division (Official Live) from Woodstock. There's 550.000 in the crowd and you can hear that :) My favorite song and performance with sabaton. Sweden rocks :)
You're pronounciation of "En livstid i krig" is impeccable. The best I've heard so far by an English speaker. If you get that strange Swedish rolling "r"-sound down, you can fool a Swede... ;-) So don't apologize - it was actually impressingly good.

Awesome! Can't wait for your reaction to "No bullets fly" :)
Great reaction from you to an amazing band!!!!
I was there and it was an awesome experience. Its damn cool to look at the video and know that one of those lights is me.
I highly recommend ballad of the bull it's about one of Australia's greatest but mostly unknown heroes it is a but of a sad one so do it at your own risk
That concert was played in Gothenburg ,se den ,next biggest city of se den , in the hockey arena called Scandinavium
Sabaton is simply amazing glad that they are making me proud to be a swed.
+ Romans 10:9-10 "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." Amen 🙏!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The man in Luke 16:24 cries: ". . .I am tormented in this FLAME."
In Matthew 13:42, Jesus says: "And shall cast them into a FURNACE OF FIRE: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth."
In Matthew 25:41, Jesus says: "Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting FIRE,. . ."
Revelation 20:15 says, " And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the LAKE OF FIRE." And please repent of all of your sins and be baptized by the Holy Spirit before it is too late, you will never know when the time will come 🙏!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amen 🙏!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"its another war song!"
yes... its sabaton... :P
You're never ready for a Sabaton song m8, never. They hit you different
Great reactions ☺️🇸🇪
This audience was proof that the Swedish have the strongest patriots, never seen such unity for a song about their fallen
(Got the wrong war, was WW2, not 1)
Sabaton are the kings of warhistory metal! PERIOD.
Of this got you imagining be a swede and sing along 😁 I song myself to tears first time I heard this live video
Love the ”genuiesm” - A Swedish veteran ❤️ all love my friend
mate! not gonna listen to Hip Hop n Stuff, but youre doin a hell of a reaction! gonna subscribe just in case ;)
awsome reaction, same as I had when I heard it the first time. Just gives you goosebumps...
Great and honest reaction Mr Lewis. Keep on rocking and wearing these sweet ass shirts! 😉
Cheers from a Sabaton fan
i'm sure someone has said this already but in case they haven't, the drummer of Sabaton is Married to Floor Jansen, the kead singer of Nightwish
That was quite something, right? Every time I watch this, it gets stuck inside my head all day. So powerful.
@@JoJoLewis Yeah, they put on quite a stage show. I'm looking forward to seeing them live next year. My husband and 2 sons are joining me for this one.
@@JoJoLewis I will 😄 I also have tickets to 4 Nightwish shows next year...
I was att that on that specific concert were this video was shot and the crowds singning drowned the band music more than once not just that particular song baut mutiple time on many songs
Can highly recomend to see them on a live concert
Another song that makes me cry is The Price Of A Mile (official video). That song is soo good.
@@JoJoLewis thank you for let us be with you when you se this band. I`m from Sweden and in januari i`m going to se them live.
Sabaton has that power to make you feel patriotic for a country you never have even visited
Beautiful reaction
I was at this show (Sitting somewhere in the middle of the platform to the left from this view of the stage)
Just before this clip started Joakim asked everyone to hold up their cellphones, since no one carries around a lighter anymore.
Needless to say, it was one hell of a show, sadly this was just before Covid started canceling shows (had tickets for around 5 shows and 1 festival that year and this was the only one I got to attend)
going by facts from this show there were 10 766 people at the arena that night.
@@JoJoLewis the atmosphere was pure magic, the feeling of being there and singing along with everyone was awesome.
My life will be incomplete if I never get to see them live!

I love Blood of Bannockburn…
If u like violin react to Imminence
Imminence - Temptation
Imminence - Heaven in hiding
Imminence - Ghost
Imminence - Chasing shadows
i was at this concert and it was amazing to witness live
@@JoJoLewis its amazing you really should go to one of their concerts if you get the chance
If you are into crowd interaction there is a new band to the channel that I can highly suggest:
Blind Guardian, an iconic metal band from Germany, with „The Bard‘s Song & Valhalla“ from Wacken Festival 2016. it‘s a double, that has to be seen together.
They‘ll surprise you with the first song. And afterwards the second song will surprise you again in comparison to what you‘ve had heard just before.
Btw: If you pass Wacken grounds and listen carefully, you can still hear the crowd singing. 🤘
Great reaction! 🤗🤗
Check up SABATON - Ghost Division (Official Live) from Woodstock. There's 550.000 in the crowd and you can hear that :)
My favorite song and performance with sabaton. Sweden rocks :)
@@JoJoLewis Great .... looking forward to it :)
Nice one buddy... 👍🏻
You're pronounciation of "En livstid i krig" is impeccable. The best I've heard so far by an English speaker. If you get that strange Swedish rolling "r"-sound down, you can fool a Swede... ;-) So don't apologize - it was actually impressingly good.
Concider that this song is about a war that raged in europe from 1618 to 1648 and the lyrics are still matching for wars today.
Great reaction!
A few others to add to the list "The Last Stand" about the Swiss Guard and the sacking of Rome in 1527 " Seven Pillars of Wisdom" about Lawrence of Arabia in WW1 "Winged Hussars" about the battle of Vienna 1683
Funny you should mention Nightwish, because... The drummer of Sabaton Hannes Van Dahl? Married to Floor Jansen of Nightwish.
Also, that operatic outro on Christmas Truce? Check the credits, Floor Jansen.
I love SABATON
SO MUCH POWERrrrrrrr 💪💪💪
And you see HANNES
drumming 🥁
behind a TANK,
looks so GREAT 😍
Watch the audience,
great how to sing along.
This is fantastic 🎶
The lyrics touch you
and is very emotional 😢
Thank you again
this was AMAZING🤘
Bye bye 👋 🇳🇱 🙋🏼♀️
Great reaction to best band we have in 🇸🇪 nowadays. Very emotionell song indeed.
I always find the reaction too this song funny at the start cause eveyone always complains about how many times it gets requested then at the end everyone wants too be there lol.
2:14 every song you will hear that is Sabaton's song is about war
I guess 7734 isn't a war song
Violins aye? ”Swedish pagans” live at Wacken, electronic cello.
Sounds really cool Ill have to check it out!
Embrace your emotions. Its a gift.
greetings from germany....awesome reaction as always.....cannot wait for "No Bullits Fly", animated video, as always Sabatons videos watching til the very end.....thanx for sharing your pure emotions with me...as you may know..Floor from Nightwish is married with Hannes, the drummer of Sabaton....Peace and Love from Köln/Cologne.......stay safe, my friend
@@JoJoLewis ....awe...awesome..thanx for answer me back.....very kind
If you want a real tear jerker, pull up the video for "No Bullets Fly." Gets me every time.
"Ooohhh its another war song" oh you dont know? Strap in my boy
And when you say its something about the crowd singing along that gets you, i think the best i could put it is that its like you hear the voices of the fallen that have suffered the same fate calling out
1:32 The guitarist can't belive it. It's magical...
If you have a hard time with war songs, then... Well... It's Sabaton.
It's almost all war, except for the REALLY heavy stuff about nazi crimes and terrorism, and of course then there's Metal Machine. COME TOUCH MY METAL MACHINE!
Now tho it's not a violin. Sabatons "Steel Commander" has a great electric cello portion featuring Tina Guo. Please dont roast me if I'm wrong.
It's a tough song. great reaction.
I’m genuinely surprised you don’t have more subs.
man i cant wait for christmas truce live
I was there. It was epic!
genius filming from behind the band
I'm learning Norwegian and many of the lyrics are close enough in pronunciation that I can remember them but if I was asked to write them out it would all be in Norwegian
epica unleashed live epica is what you need
Okay, so you need to watch the concert video of their song "The Final Solution" but you need to find the first time they performed it in Germany. It is heavy.
love it!
"AAAAAAH it's another war song!" lol are you noticing a pattern here?
You have to listen Blind Guardian - The Bards Song / Valhalla Live in Wacken 2016. The Crowd is Crazy...
@@JoJoLewis My suggestion is a single video that contains two songs. The two songs "The Bards Song" and "Valhalla".
You should check out their song about the Lost Battalion in WWI. My grandfather’s uncle was in the battalion.
@@JoJoLewis
Lost Battalion, it’s part of their last stand album. It was the song that hooked me because of my personal connection to the event. My grand uncle survived being gassed by the Germans. They were surrounded during the Meuse-Argonne offensive at the end of the war and held out until they were relieved. They were saved by a pigeon named Chère amie or dear friend.
That's very sad song it's about thirty years' war
