For anyone wondering, the music video was shot on a flood stage. Flood stages are used for movies and TV where you need to be able to submerge a set partially but also don’t want to have to make a special enclosure in a studio somewhere. Flood stages have massive water tanks which cycle water through drains in the floor and into outlets in the walls, and cutting off one or the other either drains or refills the set. So the instruments likely weren’t submerged for too long at a time. Between shots, they could’ve easily lowered the flood level
"FOR KING AND FOR COUNTRY, WE ARE FLOODING THE RIVER. OUR STAND AT YSER WILL BE THE END OF THE RACE TO THE SEA" One of the best on the album. Next to Lady of the Dark and Valley of Death. Sarajevo and Versailles are really good as intro and outro even if Joakim sings the same lines over and over
My mother's side of my family is all Belgian. I'm half Belgian and half Scottish. When the video came out I showed it to my grandmother (who should I mention is 98 and still going strong). She isn't into this kind of music even a little bit but she cried while listening to this song. Sabatons ability to make you experience emotion and patriotism just through music is absolutely incredible.
So this song is quite personal to me. My grandparents live only a few kilometers from the place where the flooding happened and I used to pass the place where the flooding started all the time. Adding to that, my grandfather's ashes are scattered about 50 meters away from the tomb of Hendrik Geeraert. Hendrik Geeraert is the man that operated the sluice system for 4 years to maintain the flooding.
A fun fact : I live in Namur, (the city's that Marche-Les-Dames is, where Albert died) and the day of the release of the lyrics video, I was in Marche-Les-Dames with a friend, and I showed him the place where Albert died. We also went in the forest, and encountered a 1.75m-tall wall with a (soldered) gate, roughly at the same place where the monument is. So I can only assume this is the gate Albert crossed before dying, and the gate was soldered afterwards to prevent anymore deaths.
I live in Belgium and the flooding of the fields is what rescued our brave little country. We also have a few war museum's and the biggest WW1 cemetary of Europe near the town of Yper.
I wonder how all of this water would affect Joakim. Remember, his CPU got fried at the end of "Lion from the North," and they had to replace his motherboard.
This song actually reminded me a lot of Hearts of Iron. I think the massive pick up at the end contributed to that. Definitely one of my favorites off of the album
I just watched the original Video and was like: I need to see Tank's reaction to it. Opened the channel to see if he did one already and I'm not disappointed to see this Premiere. Can't wait for later today!
Remeber how we spent the day on a boat getting sprayed with water for Bismarck and it was really fun? Lets go stand waist deep in water for the day instead this time.
This album was my introduction to Sabaton, being British and knowing alot of ww1 story, the storytelling and epic style is fantastic and I now own every album (including the vinyl of this album(
1st Feb Sabaton confirmed headliner at Graspop festival in Belguim in the summer. YES me happy looking forward to it. great job you do! Peace from Belgium!
I've had this whole album in my rotation since it dropped. And this is definitely one of the best songs on it. But I have to say Solider of Heaven has to be my favorite on this new album. The way they told that story just gets me every time I hear it come on.
yeah that's true, and I think it was a clever decision to make it sound different from the last record, which also dealt with WWI, this way both of them have their own "face"
They played it live for the very first time at Graspop last Sunday. I was there, and it was amazing, the crowd went wild! King Albert I was one of our "favourite" kings, he died falling off a rock when he was out climbing without a tether... afterwards there were lots of conspiracy theories that he was pushed off because he was too popular. Queen Elisabeth was indeed active as a nurse and after the war started the Queen Elisabeth music competition. They were both hugely popular, which was needed after the horrors of Leopold II and before the questionable decisions of his son Leopold III during and after WW II.
Hey man...Shout out from South Africa. I really enjoy your reaction videos! Seeing your reaction every time just reminds me how so many of us enjoy listening to and watching these guys make spectacular music every time! And also that we learn so much about the events of the past.
I listened to this whole album (including this song) before this MV dropped. And my initial reaction was that I started crying. Because it does have such a triumphant tone, but with this underswell of sorrow. They did hold on to this tiny piece of their country and slowed the germans down by opening the sea locks and flooding it, but it is still very bittersweet. They are gonna keep giving them all that they can, but the infamous "Rape of Belgium" has begun and deapite everything, they cannot fully stop it. Not with their guns and not even with the saltwater flood from the North Sea. So this song, for me, is so defiant like the flood itself, but also a quiet agony over the fact that their country was taken. The vid more highlights the defiance of it, but it still has that tinge of sadness to it. It also hits closer to home because of the current conflict in Ukraine which has some of these same elements of defiance and sorrow. (P.S. I laughed out loud at you using the Belgian flag to bleep yourself with.) (P.P.S I can't be entirely sure, but it looks like they put Pär on a box bc the water is waist deep on everyone except him.)
My top 3 favorite songs from The War to End all Wars Album is Christmas Truce, Sarajevo and Race to the Sea. I just discovered Sabaton at the beginning this year and I am loving their music. I have always loved history and learning about World War 1 and 2. I am going to see Sabaton later this year in September. I am really excited to see them in concert later this year.
You should watch the concert film Sabaton made when they had a concert in Plzeň (Czech Republic). It's about 40 min and there you find the footage they used in the music video of "Great War". Btw I love your reactions to Sabaton. 🤘
Love the video, listened to the album when it released and got my CD two days ago. I really want to go see these guys live, both here in NC hopefully, and get to one of their concerts in Europe one day.
I hadn't seen they'd released a video for this one, so I'm glad I didn't have to wait long to hear about the wet gear. This song and "Dreadnought" were my instant favorites on my first playthrough of the album. "Valley of Death" has been taking some time to grow on me. And now that you mention it, I totally want to see a video of them playing this live in Belgium. It'll be insane!
Small tidbit: in Nieuwpoort you'll find a huge monument with a statue of Albert I. It was erected after his death on the initiative of Belgian WW I vets, who also funded it.
Hi Tank, I love to watch your videos! I only recently became a Sabaton fan (my son needed a companion/driver for the concert here in Switzerland 😂). I love to hear your explanations about all things backstage, tour organization and tech stuff. That’s so interesting, thank you 😃!
I wasn't really into this song when I first heard it, but after I watched the music video I started to listen to it on repeat. Great song and what an incredible video! Thanks for the reaction, man. Very good, as always! Loved your interview with Hannes as well, he sounds like a very nice guy. Cheers from Brazil
Great reaction, Tank! 🤘 I've also been listening to this album a lot, since it was released. I love everything about it! This song is one of my favourites, "Stormtroopers" and "Versailles" is up there too. Most of the times I've been listening to the whole album from start to finish. Especially in the gym... 💪
Great reaction, and thank you for discussing the questions about water damage to instruments. When I first saw this video it immediately reminded me of the music video for Fleshgod Apocalypse’s “Sugar.” Indeed, most if not all the instruments ended up underwater, including an upright piano. It looks like you haven’t done a reaction video to Fleshgod Apocalypse (at least on your main channel), though perhaps you’ve already seen the video for “Sugar,” or you’ve already listened to it. If not, I’d love to see you react to “Sugar” or “The Violation.” 🙂
Hi Tank, I love your reaction videos and giving European rock and metal bands the chance to be heard in the US. Also your background information are always amazing. Greetings from Germany
They filmed this video in Czech Republic too. At the same time as Christmas Truce video. And this place is old limestone mine named Velká Amerika ( Big America).
YES!!!! Tank back reacting to Sabaton!! Love it so much. As for the video: Sabaton has quite big spending budgets on their videos, So I am quite confident they actually flooded Belgium just to make this video. Very curious how your Belgian reactorfriends Dicodec will react to this one. All the love from Sweden to you and your familly.
Tank not sure if you saw but Sabaton is coming to your town in October. I’m going to see them for the first time when they hit Phoenix in September. And they are with Epica too!!
Chances are water damage doesn't matter because they got new "toys" from their sponsors. Or those aren't the real things, since they don't have to work (think guitar-shaped metal plate), or they made their sponsors get them "dummies" (all the looks, no electronics inside)
Seeing them next Sunday at Graspop Metal Meeting (BE). Been going through your Sabaton playlist the last couple of weeks. Hope they play this. I'm curious how the crowd will react. For one, we are not a patriotic people. Two, 50% of attendees are not Belgian.
you really need to react on sabaton sarajevo. For some reason its not on spotify , its the first song of the album and between race to the sea and stormtropper the best song of the album. Goosebumps everytime in the end and nice headbanger solo. Grettings :D
I saw the water and the instruments and I was just “tank needs to hurry up and publish this reaction” and I was not disappointed! Also Sabaton featured you on their FB page haha :) This whole album has been a banger - but my personal fav is still Lady of the Dark.
I love that you're listening to the new albuma already. While I havent had time to sit down and digest the whole album yet, I HIGHLY recommend you check out Stormtroopers next If you havent casually listened to it already. Imo, its the best new song we've gotten in the album
I have a wild theory. This was a last song that they made a music video for this album. This albums marketing, cinematics, all the research and everything else in-between was best that I've ever seen from Sabaton. Maybe this album means something really really special for them. What if they were in the studio, listening the final product of the album and thinking "our tears, sweat, blood and everything is poured in to that, we did this" and symbolizing it with sacrificing their gear, closing this chapter. They also seemed alot more relaxed and genuinely seemed having reaaaally good time in this music video. I would love that to be true, would not really surprise me. This album is S-tier. EDIT: I just realized this was their 10th album. That could support my theory quite well.
Hey, just discovered some of your videos tonight and have binged watched many of your Sabaton videos now. I am unsure if you have seen them but cannot find but maybe you can react to The Last Stand and Shiroyama? Personally, two of my favorite and think you would like. I see you post video that you are taking a break so when ever you are able and happy to record again I think they would be cool. Thank you for good videos!
I'm not trying to get political, but the line about "King and Soldier fighting shoulder to shoulder" and that this song is about not letting invaders have their land, just hits so hard right now.
Amen. I have listened ton this record and really wept - tears falling from my face for the last…however long since it came out. We are living through a moment that is going to change history. I have two little kids. Every time I put them to sleep, we’ll fed and in safe beds, I cannot but say a prayer for all the parents in Ukraine who cannot say the same, and give a beat of my heart in thanks that my own children are safe.
@@rob3040 I feel the same. My son was almost a year old when 9/11 happened. Through his entire life the US was at war in the desert. I can only thank God that the fighting never came to US soil. I've been incredibly grateful these last few weeks that, eventhough he's an adult, my son and husband are safe and free and we are together. I cannot imagine what the people go Ukraine are going through and I pray for them. 🇺🇦
Hey Tank, great reaction, as always. As soon as I saw this video, I couldn't wait to check out your views on the water damage. I can't help wonder if they were just well built replicas, or maybe older guitars with the electronics removed. They couldn't really play them, as you wouldn't dare plug them in. Although I daresay if Tommy got electrocuted, he'd probably just play faster, lol. 😎 If I could beg your indulgence with a small digression? Athough there is a link with Sabaton, namely the subject of war. I'd like to give a shout out to Russian symphonic metal band Imperial Age, who this week had to take the incredibly difficult decision to relocate the whole band to Turkey and effectively renounce their homeland. A statement on their Facebook page says "We are no longer a Russian based band" . They were about to embark on a long awaited tour of Europe & the UK, and faced the real prospect of being boycotted. This is a real shame for a band who have survived largely on crowd funding, and whose big break is being ruined by actions way beyond their control. They play what I would call Medieval Symphonic Metal, and have some great tracks. Their three vocalists are awesome, and classically trained. Elizabeth & Julia would love them, as will Nightwish fans. It would be great if you could show them some love and review one of their songs,, as they have been ignored by the reactor scene to date. I've included a link to a good starter track below. Their best known one is called The Monestary. Cheers mate from Sydney. ruclips.net/video/YXDPXQG1V4k/видео.html
I really appreciate the way you use the "Tank Fact" Boxes to add information and additional tidbits without having to interrupt the video too often. It can be a pretty fine line between just watching the video without much of your own input, and stopping the video every 2 seconds to tell a long story and both can be annoying. You're walking that line quite perfectly by interrupting only when it's important, and using these boxes to provide additional input without interrupting the flow. That's a really cool technique.
I have the album, which I pre-ordered and got the download included, it is fantastic, I think it is my favourite Sabaton album with no tracks that I would even call average, they are all fantastic
agree with the guitar solos. My favorite is the one from The valley of death. Not the best song but definately has the best solo. Would say one of the top solos on any sabaton song
They rocked this in the water and have awesome solo guitars in this album. With "Bismarck" one of the best videos ever! My favorite guitar solo is from soldier of heaven. This give me intense vibes. I see a big similarity between unkillable soldier and no bullets fly. There is a part that sounds alike but still totally different. Joakim's voice is quite deep and unique. I can hear an awesome bass
Actually this was the only one that I haven't heard yet from the album and it really was great song (like always) and the chorus was huge! I still don't have full opinion on the "best" song from the album but the album as whole is really good! I'm actually considering of ordering the physical album and for me that hasn't happened in 10 years.
As usual a great video. I am guessing that their gear was old stuff or such that they knew that they without a doubt wouldn't be using again and that would just be laying in some storage collecting dust. That said...Ghost...reaction...please? :p
Another great reaction for a great song on a great album! 🤩👍 You said (wrote), it reminded you of "Winged Hussars" - somehow for me, the overall sound of the chorus reminds me of "Uprising"... is that strange? (As much as I love music, I'm absolutely terrible with tacts and notes, so I'm not sure, if this is explainable in any way or if its just my weird mind 😂)
haha! love the Belgian flag you put there when you needed to bleep something out! 😆 oh and you BET we are going to go BEEP when they come here and play this particular song!! 🤘🤘 (yes i am Belgian, in case you hadn't noticed yet hehe)
Love this! Thank you for the detailed reactions. Also, love the fact in your outro you used Amon Amarth's The Way of Vikings. While this is one you already reacted to, is this a hint that more Amon Amarth reactions are coming! I sure hope so...like a reaction to their latest single "Put Your Back Into the Oar".
Your channel is absolutely the best. Yes the music is great. However, the things you bring are so great. Thanks for educating us about the gear and such.
Thank you for this lovely reaction video Tank! You are the man...
Answer the question about the equipment
@Badatallthis Stuff The ayes have it!
Thanks a ton! Cannot wait for the Sabaton History episode of this!
Sabaton Just shared your reaction on Sabatons site🤟
Yes glorious
For anyone wondering, the music video was shot on a flood stage. Flood stages are used for movies and TV where you need to be able to submerge a set partially but also don’t want to have to make a special enclosure in a studio somewhere.
Flood stages have massive water tanks which cycle water through drains in the floor and into outlets in the walls, and cutting off one or the other either drains or refills the set. So the instruments likely weren’t submerged for too long at a time. Between shots, they could’ve easily lowered the flood level
I know nothing about how instruments work but I like to imagine a piece of Tank's soul dying when he saw the guitar half underwater
As a Belgian I can not wait to hear this played live in Belgium. Such a fantastic song.
I hope they play it at the Graspop Metal Meeting this year. Definitly going to watch them.
@@dnai00 And they did not disappoint!!!
@@tlmc3257 No, they didn't disappoint indeed. It was an amazing show.

They were epic at grasspop, definitely worth being a wreck at work the next day 😎
"FOR KING AND FOR COUNTRY, WE ARE FLOODING THE RIVER. OUR STAND AT YSER WILL BE THE END OF THE RACE TO THE SEA"
One of the best on the album. Next to Lady of the Dark and Valley of Death.
Sarajevo and Versailles are really good as intro and outro even if Joakim sings the same lines over and over
I prefer Stormtroopers, honestly

The only issue I have with Sarajevo is it being a physical only track, the album doesn't really feel right starting on stormtroopers...

I saw the water and the instruments and I was just “tank needs to hurry up and publish this reaction” and I was not disappointed!
Also Sabaton featured you on their FB page haha :)
This whole album has been a banger - but my personal fav is still Lady of the Dark.
Not just the FB page. They had it up on their IG feed.
I love that you're listening to the new albuma already. While I havent had time to sit down and digest the whole album yet, I HIGHLY recommend you check out Stormtroopers next If you havent casually listened to it already. Imo, its the best new song we've gotten in the album
Set aside some time and listen to the whole thing. It’s so worth it. And yes Stormtroopers is amazing
Dreadnought and Hellfighters are my favourites from the new album
This was good one Tank. I love that you just need and rock as hard as I do. Have a great weekend.
This is my favourite song on this album… it builds so nicely to the crescendo you mention.. glad to see I have the same taste as Tank
Love this album so much, every song sounds different
I guess we wait for more stuff to come out?
Hey, just discovered some of your videos tonight and have binged watched many of your Sabaton videos now. I am unsure if you have seen them but cannot find but maybe you can react to The Last Stand and Shiroyama? Personally, two of my favorite and think you would like. I see you post video that you are taking a break so when ever you are able and happy to record again I think they would be cool. Thank you for good videos!
Guess you know by now your reaction been shared by Sabaton themself. Well done brother ❤
I saw that! Super cool!
Thanks for this episode, Tank! I would love to see the behind the scenes/making of Race to the Sea.
I honestly did not know they released one final video until your reaction, I guess I was too busy listening to the album.
Dude, I just got here from a link posted by Sabaton! Nice!
Nice! Thanks!
And again, they shared one of your videos on their social media ^^
I saw! So awesome!
If I could beg your indulgence with a small digression?

The new album is great. Going to see them here in Sweden in May 👌
Sabaton the best!!🤘
I mean, Chris is using an Ibanez in this but he just signed on with Jackson guitars so he probably doesn't care too too much.
The new album is amazing
Awesome song, love it, really looking forward seeing this live on Graspop in Belgium in June !!
haha! love the Belgian flag you put there when you needed to bleep something out! 😆
oh and you BET we are going to go BEEP when they come here and play this particular song!! 🤘🤘
(yes i am Belgian, in case you hadn't noticed yet hehe)
Bought the album today, not regretting it one bit.
Your channel is absolutely the best. Yes the music is great. However, the things you bring are so great. Thanks for educating us about the gear and such.
Thank you!
