Taken from his wiki: He served in the Boer War, First World War, and Second World War. He was shot in the face, head, stomach, ankle, leg, hip, and ear; was blinded in his left eye; survived two plane crashes; tunnelled out of a prisoner-of-war camp; and tore off his own fingers when a doctor declined to amputate them. and of course the famous quote from the man himself when he returned after ww2 that was shown at the end of the music video.
@AmericansLearn it'd be really cool if you did the Sabaton History video for this man, or any other songs as well. Indy does a great job as a storyteller and historian.
@@AmericansLearn Churchill also sent him to China as his personal ambassador during WWII, where he interrupted Mao Zedong while the latter was giving a propaganda speech at a formal dinner event...to accuse him of holding back Communist forces from fighting the Japanese to further his own domestic political goals at the expense of the war effort. at the outbreak of ww2, mr adrian was living in poland. and yes, he helped out there as well in the defense. the germans dedicated an entire bomber wing to trying to kill him by bombing his house. they failed. later, on being asked if the headshot was painful, mr adrian was quoted as saying that the only annoying thing about being shot in the head was that when he visited the barber for his haircut, the exit wound on the back of his head itched
@@apoorhorseabusedbycenk It is, though they did actually bomb his place. If I remember right, I'm pretty sure his motorcade was strafed at one point too. Whether he was deliberately targeted or the attacks really were just coincidences (they *were* invading the country, after all), I still like to imagine it was a case of the German command recognizing his name and saying "oh *hell* no, not again!" and ordering the Luftwaffe to go deal with him.
His polish house was on the far side of the country to the German front, it was on the border with the soviets the Germans would not have sent planes that far for just one man when they would have sent it for Warsaw not a random dudes house
Lieutenant Colonel Adrian Carton de Wiart was critically injured nine times during WW1. Like shot in the eye, shot through the head, shot in the stomach and lost his hand. He even survived 2 plane crashes and many others. He also ripped out is own fingers as a doctor refused to operate at his request, so Adrian did it himself XD. Though recieving many and life threatening Injuries he return to fighting as soon as he woke up or when he personally felt he was better or able to walk. Also you might wonder why he always returned to the fighting despite his injuries. He acutally said this despite recieving multiply injuries and being in many wars, he said and I quote "I enjoyed the war". Being part of Boer war before WW1, after that WW1 and later WW2 until he retired, he survived 3 wars and 2 really big horrible ones. Having recieved 10 medals of honor from different nations, mostly Britain. Despite all that happen, he married a countess at 28 and died peacefully around his family at 83 This is what the singer Joakim Broden had to say himself about Adrian Carton de Wiart. "Adrian Carton de Wiart was Belgian-born and fighting for the British in World War I but had also fought earlier in the Boer War and further back. He was almost like a comic book character, this over-the-top super-soldier who just wouldn’t die no matter what the enemy threw at him. He’s one of the craziest people I’ve ever read about, so we decided to do something different for him. It’s a playful song, somehow."
Indy Neidell (who played the Unkillable Soldier) did a WW1 documentary channel called The Great War, which he did from 2014 to 2018 and covered the events of WW1 week by week as they happened. He also did specials about individuals or countries during the war.
Another great history lesson, but here the band had a little fun seeing how often they could kill the host of Sabaton History Channel, Indy Neidell. Adrian Carton de Wiart lived a life that almost seems impossible and would be unbelievable if it was not fully documented. Too much to list here, but this is a story everyone should read about fully. And after all that, he died peacefully in his sleep. One interesting story about filming this video, Neidell complained to the band that their celebration of high fiving was inaccurate for the time period while ignoring the fact he is firing a Thompson submachine gun, which was available in WW1. You might try "The first Soldier" about the WW1 French equivalent of Audi Murphy. great reaction, stay safe.
@@AmericansLearn he's the type of person Death would only take in his sleep, since maybe even Death himself knows what's gonna happen to him had he tried to take him awake.
8:30 If you want to know more about this individual in particular you may want to consider reading the book "Happy Odyssey" Written by Sir Adrian Carton de Wiart, VC, KBE, CB, CMG, DSO himself, with a foreword from another individual of historical renown you may have heard of: Sir Winston S. Churchill. That's right. The autobiography of The Unkillable Soldier got Churchill himself to pick up a pen and write for it. How badass is that?
I claim the band bribed Indy with a hot nurse so they could shoot him repeatedly. Sir Adrian made fictional superheroes look like wimps. It is said the field hospital kept a change of clothes for him he was there so often.
When you read into adrian karton de wiard, a simple question rises in you mind. Why doesn't this absolute legend of a man have his own movie yet? I mean, the man was shot like 11 times or something, clubbed, grenaded, gassed, crashed twice i believe, a pow in germany in ww2 and escaped from captivity and a lot more.
@@AmericansLearn Thanks. And just to clarify I mean after you react to a Sabaton song then please shortly thereafter as one of the next videos react to the Sabaton History video for the song you just reacted to? Hope I’m making sense here if not then ask.
7:21 ive thought about this often about both world wars, despite the horror they brought to the world, when you look at the finer details to some of the individuals on all sides performing superhuman feats, the wars really start to resemble a planet wide version of the Greek age of heroes.
If you want more stories from WW1, how about "The Man That Didn't Kill Hitler" aka Henry Tandy VC. Or the story of "Fray Bentos", the tank that inspired "Fury". If you want something a little newer, a man after Adrians' heart, "Mad Jack Churchill" aka "The Man Who Fought WW2 With a Longbow & Broadsword".
If you would like to do a battle of the bands, you may want to do the song 82nd all the way by Sabaton, followed by the cover by Amaranthe and finish up with the combined live preformance
Sabaton has several songs about individuals from the Great War that many of us in the US may not have known otherwise. Lady of the Dark, Father, 1916, Seven Pillars of Wisdom, and many more. I would do Sarajevo and Versailles as one, since they are the beginning and end of their CD, Great War.
Every day for 83 years, Death would get up in the morning, brew some coffee, pop in some toast and check his day planner. Then he would see the name Sir Adrian Carton de Wiart on his to do list, and immediately call in sick whilst muttering "You know what, f**k that s**t today. I've got enough problems!"
Not musical but you may enjoy some Jeremy Clarkson (of Top Gear fame) descriptions of what it takes to be a VC winner. Acts of bravery that are almost beyond comprehension.
