The soldiers on both sides were replaced because they would kill each other. Each side either didn't shoot or just shot up into the air. I cant see any comment about Floor yet, so here it comes. That amazing female voice at the end was the drummer Hannes wife Floor Jensen who’s the singer in the band Nightwish

If you have not already heard it, for a true tribute to past fallen soldiers you have to listen to "1916" from Sabaton based on a song from Mötorhead. It is incredibly moving
@@Northman-from-the-North I know...back in the days, my senior class had a field trip to KZ Buchenwald...that was back in the 90s, i have no idea if its still mandatory for german students....just being there is hell, I cant explain
There is a French movie called "Joyeux Noël" with this quote : " The country? What does the country know about our suffering? I'll tell you one thing : I felt closer to those Germans than to all those who shout "Death to the Krauts" warm and cosy in front of their chestnut turkey!"
I don't think you realised that it was Floor Jansen who sang the outro at the end credits. She is of course the wife of Hannes!! ( de drummer van Sabaton ).
With the recent Death of my grandfather may 4th 2022 (Dutch National Day of remembrence of the Dead) me and my family found some documentation of my grandmothers side of the family that he kept. I turns out that her father, nephews, male cousins, uncles all served in the first world war... none of them ever came back... all called up to serve in the Austro-Hungarian army. My grandmothers' grandfather was the only man not called to serve as he was considered too old. He did not survive the war either, after the last letter he got from the military informing him his last son had made a 'glorious sacrifice for the fatherland, to be remembered by all' he took his own life... 2 entire generations of men wiped out by the great war. my grandmother was only 2 years old when war broke out and her father was called to serve, she never spoke of how the consequences of the great war affected her, but she kept all the documentation, and after her death, my grandfather kept and preserved those documents too. That is what I know about my relatives in the great war
To Hell and Back is one of theirs that you might particularly enjoy, but this one is easily one of their best. Hard to believe that it's a dramatisation of events that really happened.
I concur, Joakim has stated that "To Hell and Back" is one of his favorite songs. He has met Audie Murphy's son and visited Murphy's grave at Arlington.
It has been more than a century since the Great War started and they are still digging up bones, grenades and death. If you ever visit us you must go see the museum in Ypres. Every day since 1918 at 8 clock they play 'The Last Post' on the square for the soldiers who lost their lives. Every single day. 'Lest we forget'
I saw them live back in October. For this song they had everyone pull out their phones and turn on their flashlights, while turning down most of the stage lights. It was so much of a magical moment even Pär the bassist teared up a little.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them.
I like the implication on the song that the individual soldiers on opposing sides have more in common than the higher-ups and politicians who wanted the war. And the somberness of how on the first pre-chorus it's "we are all friends" and then later "we were all friends". And "thinking about those who never made it home once the battle had commenced", again implying you remember them from both sides. The commanders had to move some units into different fronts after the Truce as they were not willing to shoot their newly discovered friends.
In the real event, after the truce they wouldn’t fire at each other, or would just shoot into the air. They had to be replaced because they didn’t want to fight the people they’d just shared a day with.
As always, Sabaton reaches into your soul and squeezes the emotion out. The crew that created the video normally work on movies, and the resulting quality and depth that they achieve is amazing. Joakim has said that this song is written as a waltz, and that the opening uses a reversed version of the Carol of the Bells. The movie crew was able to get the band to do an admirable job of acting, with most of the band expressing how difficult acting turned out to be. The cross in the video symbolizes actual crosses and memorials to the truce, specifically the Ypres cross that was erected in 1999 to commemorate the truce in that region. Par carves 2021 to reflect the 1999 in that cross. Great reaction, anyone who is not moved by this video is dead inside.
The thought that always go through my head when listening to this song and thinking of the historical events behind it is: In wars such as this, the enemy is often demonized to such a degree that you're not fighting other people; you're fighting some faceless abstract "evil". During the truce the enemy is humanized again, and once the fighting commences, they were suddenly fighting brothers, sons and fathers who didn't wish to be there any more than you did. Commanded to be there by politicians hundreds of miles away.
In fact the troops that took part in this truce where immidiately relocated. Because many where unable to figth against people they had met. The Pope at that time had asked the commanding staff of al involved parties for a Christmas Truce. Command did not want to do that. So at many places the soldiers made this truce on their own accord.
I have the deepest respect for your way of reacting and the way you encourage your viewers to visit the creators to show appreciation. I have no family that has served since I live in Sweden and us being neutral. I do, however, have a friend who served in the peacekeeping force (UN) in Kosovo, he still has nightmares from what he witnessed there. My son has resently finished his fieldnurse ed for the Army Ranger Battalion. Given how the situation now is in Europe, and us joining NATO, I must say that him enlisting makes me both proud and fearful.
The fact that this actually happened gives me hope for the human race, the common soldiers put aside their differences and came together in peace and brotherhood for a few days of real human fellowship. It's a shame that politicians and people hungry for power and money decide to "Let loose the dogs of War" instead of finding peaceful solutions. One day human compassion may well win out and war will be a thing they never carry out again, but I won't hold my breath.

This was the song that turned me into a Sabaton fan. It usually makes me cry twice, once as Hannes is crossing no man's land and then again when Pär is carving 2021 on the cross. This was not long after the 100th anniversary of the armistice, when I learned that my country had sent soldiers abroad to fight _Every_ _Single_ _Year_ since the "War to End All Wars". A war that never ends, indeed! Most of the stories about my relatives' experiences of war come from WW2. The most incredible concerning WW1 I will save until you react to Sabaton's version of _1916,_ because it is directly relevant to that one. Peace.
The soldiers don't choose to fight, they where send by their commanders. Hannes (the soldier who jumped the grenate) is walking to the other side who just tried to killed him, and later on when a ball is flying to the air it reminds him of the grenate. And I see him thinking "what the hell are we doing here?" Like System of a Down said in the lyrics of B.Y.O.B. "Why don't presidents fight the war, why do they always send the poor"

This is without a doubt one of the most surreal experiences I've had seeing them live. the entire floor just stopped, linked arms over shoulders and swayed back and forth the entire song.
I had a few relatives from both sides of my family that were in WWI. I've been putting together a listing for all the men and women from the county I grew up in. One interesting story I came across was one of the soldiers went and enlisted in the French Foreign Legion when the conflict started. And joined the American forces when the US joined in. There were so many of the soldiers who came back changed and later ended themselves. It was truly humbling experience to see all the names. And there was one of our local women that was a nurse at Camp Bowie in Texas. Thanks to all the vets for your service.
Late on Christmas Eve,1914, men of the British soldiers heard German troops in the trenches opposite them singing carols and patriotic songs and saw lanterns and small fir trees along their trenches. Messages began to be shouted between the trenches. The following day, British,French and German soldiers met in no man's land and exchanged gifts, took photographs and some played impromptu games of football. They also buried casualties and repaired trenches and dugouts. The truce lasted for two days. When their superiors found out, they sent some soldiers away to other places, some ran to not have to fight any longer. The rest were shot right there and then for refusing orders to fight against those they had made friends with. In 1999 a cross was set in place to commemorate the event and those who were there.
I had family that were fortunate to immigrate to the United states shortly before the war broke and some of the children were drafted to fight against the land of their forefathers.
When I was four, I had a playdate at a friend's house and while we were playing outside, a WWI veteran was waiting for a bus. He wore an eyepatch and we wanted to know what happened. Shrapnel from one of the very same grenades you see in the video had taken one of his eyes. He showed us his empty eye socket and we never forgot it.
i´ve seen sabaton live 3 weeks ago in berlin. they played this song two. it was awsome, you could feel the tension in the air. my voice was trashed after the concert but it was worth it singing every fucking song full heart alongside my fellow metalheads. sabaton is not just a great great band, they are storyteller and unbelivebale good live.
I always tear up a little watching this song. It's an event that will probably never happen agian, a moment of tranquility on a battlefield that took so many lives, a recognition of the humanity of ones enemies, really incredible.
Hello together ! I watched this video many times. Every time tears in my eyes. So many People fought for their countries, their families und at least for their lives. Brave men in foreign countries. But so much bravier than these soldiers where these people - raising their hands without any wepon - hoping the other side has as brave men as themselfes. Meeting them on the battlefield, not with guns, but with an open heart and this is humanity, as it should be more times than this single day. this was 1914, but decades earlier and till today, its the same - we need such brave men.Thandks all of them for their service, and thanks sabaton, they bring back a peace of history, that we need today also. Greets from Austriaw
Your rx to this is why I watch reactions. Seeing your emotional rx got me the same way. Thanks! The Last Post takes place daily, promptly at 8 p.m., regardless of weather conditions The Last Post takes place under the Menin Gate, a 4-minute walk from the Grote Markt of Ypres. You cannot reserve a place. Get to the Menin Gate on time so that you have a good view of the ceremony. Attending the Last Post is also free. The buglers of the Last Post Association are responsible for sounding the Last Post. These buglers are volunteers from the Ypres Fire Department. Out of respect for the deceased, there is never applause after the Last Post. The silence under the Menin Gate gives every visitor an overwhelming emotion. The cross that you see in the video has also been there since 1999. This video is about the one day of peace on the battlefield of Flanders near Ypres.
Loved your reaction to this. The music is great and the message is particularly powerful that we, as humans, are all the same deep down. The men and women sent into conflict could be any of us in different circumstances and Sabaton do a fantastic job of pointing this out in creative and subtle ways. Your interpretation and emotional response was a lovely thing to share. Thank you, from a British veteran.
I saw them recently in leeds on the first night of their current tour when they played this and it couldn't have been better. Everyone had their phone lights on. Snow machines were running and it was done to perfection.
I told Chicago Reacts that you needed to hear this song when they had Bartender Reacts to Christmas Truce. I am going to really enjoy seeing your reaction to this one. Thank you.
That. ALL OF THAT. That is why I have been asking for you to react to this song. The UTTER joy on your face as for a short time the shooting stopped. The nearly insane look in your eyes as enemies shock hands and exchanged gifts... and then the sadness as it stopped. As once more they picked up their guns. I am not going to explain the history here. You can find that. I watched this the moment I saw you made this because I don't have to explain to you how special that day was.
The insanity of it all. Weapons of the state fighting then a moment of humanity before returning to weapons of the state, absolute insanity. Makes you wonder if the people would get along far better on their own without egotistical power hungry politicians using them as pawns. Sabaton keep great historical stories alive via superb songs.
Thank you for this heartfelt reaction. People today can learn allot from this story, but allot of people are to foolish not to learn from the past. Those people are sadly doomed to repeat it. Keep up the good work and thank you for helping Sabaton to educate the masses. A salute from me and thank you
Hi from germany I cant even understand how my grandmom as she was 14 escaped was bombed had to carry out limps of soldiers had a very hard stepmom that beated her and hardly feed her at that time the nazis made a a soup sunday to feed people if you know anything about history germany was made guilty of the war altho all yelled yippy is like amercia reacted to a little island called cuba and nearly made the endwar but if you are in a country surranded you attack first right anyway at that time there where no nazis what alot forget it was pride of kingdoms in all I could write hours that even the titanic looked like a cartoon but one thing my granddad said to me was the only good thing about war is you can travel at that time noone went on looking around earth what did we learn from history nothing 5 times as I know it we nearly blow us up,look at your family and wonder how much luck will humanity have?
I had ancesters fighting in both World wars. We still have pictures of WWI and WWII because a man my father refered to as 'uncle' took many photographes. There are even some from when they went through poland... terrible pictures... dead soldiers, pilotes and horses... I wish there was a way to find these peoples loved ones to send them these pictures. I know it sounds cruel, but it might give these people closure. I know how horrible it is not to know... my uncle and grandfather both came home years after the war was over because they were held as prisinors of war in conditions i'm still surprised they made it home alive. About 13 years ago I gave up my well paid fulltime job to be the 24/7 caretaker for my grandmother. At her funeral we recieved a handwritten field-mail with a little painting of her laid husband. He was writing around christmas time and wrote 'For now i'm okay, hope you are as well.' He already lost many of his brothers at that time in Stalingrad, other places on the battlefiled (his brother ried and he came across that landmark a few days or weeks later by pure accident😢) and to starvation for being a prisinor of War. As bad and as horrifying that it was i wish my grandmother would have had the chance to read one of the last letters of her beloved husband before she passed...😢
Do you rememer the 50s Western movie Star Audie Murphie? He was a 1. LT during WWII and received the MOH!!!! Sabaton did an hommage to his suffering, "To hell and back" which is also the name of his biography, is telling Audie´s story after the war. Please check out the official viedeo of "To hell and back"
The Christmas Truce is one of the most amazing events in the recorded history of modern warfare, and the event was the only one like it. Future Christmas Truces were banned and the death penalty thrown in to make it stick. My grandfather fought in France in WWI, my father fought in Europe in WWII. I’m an Air Force brat and a History minor. Sabaton always nails historical accuracy. The very fact that they specialize, as a metal band, in historical events is wonderful and amazing and I love their music. The Christmas Truce is one of my favorite events in history. This song is one of my songs ever.

The Last Post takes place daily, promptly at 8 p.m., regardless of weather conditions
The Last Post takes place under the Menin Gate, a 4-minute walk from the Grote Markt of Ypres.
A salute from me and thank you
Chorus No. 2: "We WERE all friends" That hits HARD :/
As bad and as horrifying that it was i wish my grandmother would have had the chance to read one of the last letters of her beloved husband before she passed...😢
... and "No Bullets Fly" is the next 'must do'!
Do you rememer the 50s Western movie Star Audie Murphie? He was a 1. LT during WWII and received the MOH!!!! Sabaton did an hommage to his suffering, "To hell and back" which is also the name of his biography, is telling Audie´s story after the war. Please check out the official viedeo of "To hell and back"
Imagine the balls of the guy that went over the top first, unarmed, merely with his hands up and be like, let's not fight and die today, okay?
I have seen this video a lot and every time the onion ninja's show up.
Saw this live in Amsterdam and that was amazing.
I've been 2 years for his reaction
Great reaction
The crazy thing is, this is actually a happening.! during WW1... Where the english and germans united during xmas
This song is one of my songs ever.
sabaton lady of the dark animated story video

It is so crazy this happened. It was the last gentlemen war even though it was brutal. Now, we hope for a cease fire that is political. Man
🤩👍💥💯🎼
Would've the song alone do the same triggering effect without the visuals on the video??? Some might be in the ingnorance what the song is all about without the story telling on the video.... Sadly.
It's not too common this sh1t is tought in history classes when the subject is on the Great War.
