Some months ago, you guys did Joe Cocker singing "You Can Leave Your Hat On". Tom Jones did a KILLER cover of that song, which was featured in the wonderful movie "The Full Monty". I hope you will give that a shot sometime. He also put his own spin on Prince's hit song, "Kiss". And, though he's more of a crooner-type than Tom, I would love for you guys to react to "Release Me" by Englebert Humperdinck (who is also from the UK). It's a classic.

This is actually from Tom's *second* comeback, in the late 1990s. He'd faded off the charts after 1973, but was discovered by the MTV generation when he had a hit with a cover of Prince's song "Kiss' in 1988. But while he stayed on the UK charts after that, he didn't have international success again until 1999, when his album "Reload" featured this and successful covers of "Burning Down the House" (by Talking Heads) and "Mama Told Me Not to Come" (originally by Eric Burdon, most famously by Three Dog Night).
Again, his chart success eventually faded, but Tom never really goes away. An Icon forever.
And again, I will keep begging you for Tom joining in with Crosby Stills Nash & Young to do "Long Time Gone" on his 1970 TV special. Unforgettable.

    • @soreallover960
      @soreallover960 2 года назад +1

"Mama Told Me Not to Come" was originally by Randy Newman, who wrote it.

@@soreallover960 Newman wrote it in 1966. He didn't release his own version until 1970, though.

He had a number one album in the UK last year with Surrounded By Time. He just got pipped at the post for a number one with Praise & Blame when Eminem’s record company pulled some shenanigans. So his chart success has not faded. It’s stronger than ever. And now, he’s getting critical acclaim.

Tom is always changing things up. That’s why he is a legend. He does a great cover of Prince’s Kiss - see the official video with Art of Noise. He also had a big hit with A boy from Nowhere/born to be Me which is about a famous bull fighter from Spain. He did about 5 songs on an album based on the stage musical. He sings in a more opera type voice. He also had a big hit with a techno/rap song where he does a long scream in it which is amazing and fun. Mr Jones has done many up tempo songs. You just haven’t heard them.
If you want to see a really early and young Tom about 24 years old. Check out the black and white video of him singing watch ya gonna do from the Ed Sullivan show. He does some nice dance moves too.

He had affairs all over the world with some of the most beautiful women in the world. I don't know how his wife put up with it. She never toured with him and stayed home with the kids. I think they must have had an understanding. But in his way he loved her and was devastated when she died a few years ago.

Have you heard his version of Prince’s Kiss? It came out in 88 with a group called The Art Of Noise and totally revived his career.
Also he is a judge on the Voice UK and sings live on there very worth watching, even not for a reaction but in your own time. The guy’s in his 80s now and can still do it.

If you want another Tom Jones song, check out his duet Help Me Make It Through The Night with country singer Tanya Tucker. There is some chemistry there!! I'm glad I found you guys, love what you are doing!

Check out the Tom Jones TV show, 1970. He had lots of then current singers and music groups like Janis Joplin, The Rascals, Crosby Stills & Nash, and many more. Great lineup of stars and Tom performed with them. Really awesome.

Four generations of females in my family have LOVED this man.He even covered Prince! He has evolved each era with age, experience, and now faith. He's more chill now. Find him singing Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah on YT. Flows and still gives a fantastic live performance! Despite all the flirting, he was married FOREVER until she recently died. She put up with women throwing their panties onstage at him!

No one else could ever give the delivery on this song. My Mama would've even thrown her panties on the stage. She only ever saw him on TV but she would be fanning herself. It was too much seeing Mama like that. Daddy just laughed. There's 7 of us kids so wr all knew Mama n Daddy liked each other a lot. 🤣🤣

@Teresia I think your Mama's reaction was a common occurrence among women across America watching The Tom Jones Show during the 1960s. it sure was true with my Mom and her girlfriends back in the day!

30 odd years after the start of his career he was really pushing the sexy lothario side and really had a big comeback doing collaborative songs with contemporary artists in the late 90s...but honestly his best stuff is like "I'll Never Fall in Love Again" written by Lonnie Donegan for Tom.

Back in the late 60s, when I was a prepubescent girl,
TJ had a weekly tv show. Women used to throw their keys and even panties on the stage when he sang for example "Delilah". I watched every Friday night. His hip thrusts and skintight britches made Elvis hip swivels look tame. I'd quickly turn away if my parents walked by. 😳 Tom was my first guilty pleasure. Rob Squad can you react to Tom's version of Delilah and Ohio Players, Skintight or Fire. OP were one of the first funk disco in the mid 60s.

You two will really enjoy Tom's version of "If I Only Knew", it has swagger, horns, and a fun video. He also does a very good cover of Talking Heads "Burning Down the House" with The Cardigans as well as a great and timely cover of Todd Snider's "Talking Reality Television Blues". Please add them all to your list.
