I love your invention very much and I have replicated this arm for my grand-daughter. Have been working on it for 3 weeks, due to ordering different size springs with different wire sizes. I recently noticed in the drawing that you used 10mm springs which I ordered through Amazon, 10mm x 2 inches. It responds exactly as yours does until I attach the sword, then it does not return to position. Can you tell the wire size of the springs as well as the length?

Hi my friend, I'm glad that came out something good from this. In fact, this project is not mine, first I saw somewhere on the Internet a picture of a similar model, but without moving parts. I just developed it ahead. About the springs - I'm really very very sorry, but I got the spring size wrong I don't know how - the springs are actually about 14mm. I have uploaded new photos to the album with the parts disassembled and correct sizes. Tomorrow I will look for some softer foam for cover and try to put it back together. The secret of the springs is that they should be maximally possible tensioned and the thread should be well lubricated.

This is one of the best fencing dummies I have seen online, but struggling to identity proper parts and assembly (despite the lovely pics). Some specific questions…
    - The bigger "forearm" and "upper arm" pieces are M14 rope tensioners?
    - The smaller "inner elbow" tensioner is M5?
    - What is the size of the nuts and bolts that go into the eye holes of the M14 tensioner rods?
    - the single M14 threaded rod is for the "wrist" that connect to forearm M14 rope tensioner at one end and is then somehow attached to a inner threaded extensions piece which is inner threaded to M6 for the blade tang?
If you still have this… a tear down/assembly video would be awesome. Or just a video that longer on the build and has you naming the parts along the way. OR an update to jut one of your great diagrams with a sized parts labelling added

Hi my friend and thank you for your comment! I appreciate it. I`ll try to answer to your questions:
      - The bigger "forearm" and "upper arm" pieces are M14 rope tensioners? - Yes, this size was closest to real arm. Or maybe I can’t find bigger size, or maybe it was so expensive.
      - The smaller "inner elbow" tensioner is M5? - Yes.
      - What is the size of the nuts and bolts that go into the eye holes of the M14 tensioner rods? - Size is M10 (10mm thread). Bigger size can’t go through eye of tensioner, a smaller one does not hold firmly.
      - the single M14 threaded rod is for the "wrist" that connect to forearm M14 rope tensioner at one end and is then somehow attached to a inner threaded extensions piece which is inner threaded to M6 for the blade tang? - Yes. I drop out original eye rod and take standard rod. On weapon end I drill a 5mm whole and make a 6mm thread with thread tap. You can see on video at 1:20. My graphical skills are limited … On top of that is simply a pipe. On the other hand, later I have chosen a different approach on the drawings. Because it's easier to make and because it's easier to draw...
There are a lot of details in there and if I put everything inside it won't be clear. So, I saved some nuts and washers from drawings. Sorry for that I make your life difficult. I go to local store more than ones for parts. Actually, a have get many different sizes of bolts, nuts, springs and etc to find working model. I`m sure that you can’t find the same parts like my parts so you must improvise.
Anyway, I make a new more detailed diagram, you can see it on link above. I don't know if I'll ever make a new video. This video was a test recording to see what exercises to show. Then I made a new video and the camera was on a tripod but I didn't like it and only uploaded the test video. I'm not even doing the exercises right here. I mean the dynamics, the movement of the tip, the tapping of the weapon with the front and back side of the blade...

O man, this is a random springs. First try was with only two springs and it didn`t work well. So I add another two. The tension is about as I could stretch them with hands. Don`t forget to add some oil to moving thread, its mission critical :p

Hi, I'm trying to make this at the moment and can't seem to identify what the main parts you are using for your arm are.
Could you tell me what the key metal structures you are attaching everything else onto are? Or where you found them? (The big metal pieces with the gaps in the middle).
    I would greatly appreciate it!

this is an excellent set up -- but as a gauge for the accuracy of the hit I suggest you put colored markers on the actual target.
