It's not just the tires difference. It's also the HP\torque difference. A different channel ( savgegeese) did a dyno and a very in depth comparison test on both cars at the same place, and the Z has only 372hp\362t and the supra has 397hp\423t + the zf transmission.

True, & BMW always underrate their HP, so I guess Supra falls under that category. The Supra is also 200 pounds lighter than the new Z, which really shows in the higher speeds (especially in the roll races). Even though I still want the Z over the Supra, I love the supra even more now that they came out with Manual.
It's also the power to weight ratio.

@@ets419 also chasis has a huge role in putting power down. A c6 corvette makes 430 hp/ 430 ft lbs. Much more hp and torque than an mk 5 Supra and its lighter but is slower in the quarter mile. Yes you could make the c6 faster but it would need much more power to do it

Remember when Nissan made quality cars? I barely do, it was a loooong time ago. That interior looks like all hard molded plastic & cardboard wrapped in pleather and spray painted blue. It's wild when Corvette has a miles-better interior.
Newer/better chassis, better engine, better transmission, better tires and lower curb weight.
Really don’t see any reason to pick the Z over Supra.

All the Z fans are gonna try and justify why it lost now, even though it’s still just a Q50 in a 370Z chassis. Still can’t believe people think BMW making the Supra is a bad thing when it’s slaughtering the Z in all aspects, and Toyota would’ve never been able to do that on their own. Also why does everyone throw tuning into the argument, like the Supra isn’t the better tuning platform too.

@@BrownSofaGamer I get you and I’ve been an avid Nissan fan for many years. My first Nissan was a 1991 Nissan Sentra SE-R, then came to a 300zx TT, SE-R spec v, a couple of g37 coupes and sedans. 350z and a Q50. I now own a 2017 Q60RS400 which is the same motor on that new Z. I’ve owned one BMW e92 coupe m3 which I loved to death but it came along with a lot of issues and left me stranded a couple of times. As far as technology goes BMW takes the lead with superior engineering but Nissan has a more championship caliber racing heritage than BMW and even Toyota. GTR was banned from racing back then it just dominated the European league. Stock for stock the new Supra is better but when it comes to modding I’m already seeing modded Q50 and Q60 giving a modded new Supra hell.
Not just the transmission…but the torque-to-weight ratio.
I think the biggest issue is neither, but rather the aero. look at the Z, it basically looks like a slightly lowered SUV. it has worse aero than sedans.

Nothing unexpected. The Supra puts out more power than is claimed on paper, plus has the ZF 8 speed which is the best conventional automatic money can buy. Also remember the Supra is lighter and has more torque. Base model Z definitely has lots of tuning potential at a fairly attractive price, but stock for stock the Supra is the better car.
Don’t forget - whatever tuning potential the Z has, multiple that 2x for the BMW.
Supra has way better tuning potential, so the Z losses in every sports related category. so sad that it had 3 years or so, they just couldn't beat their benchmark car.

Only so much credit can be given to tires. The Z just plainly got spanked.
The z lost by 3 feet on the roll race. Spanked? It couldn't get off the line at the start as you can hear the z instantly shift into 2nd gear early in the rpm.
Say whatever people want to say but I think it was very smart of toyota to collaborate with bmw for their supra. They made one hell of a beast.
The "Supra" cutting the 400 out the gate and that price gap just makes it more insulting.
Now we need a supra vs Z race where both are manuals...would be great to see

I actually had a deposit on both last month and whatever dealer got their car first I bought, I ended up with a 22 supra premium, love the Z but the power to weight of the car is amazing , both are beautiful cars

Hell... all you Supra fanboys out there are just rooting for a now German car that is $7,000 more than the Z. Dollars count. If you are spending more, you better get more. Both cars seem pretty cool and the styling points, for me, go to the Z.

Well, I want a supra, faster than a Honda tiper, a Nissan Z, it makes them look like children's cars, I don't care who made the BMW engine, it runs spectacularly and its price is cheap
Nissan dropped the ball on this car. It doesn't look good, it doesn't perform exceptionally well especially against its primary competition and to me, the interior is pretty bland and unexciting. I just don't like it at all. To think they had an opportunity to really bring back and modernize the 240 look and feel and just missed it on all accounts. Nissan is cooked.
Unfortunately, the results were completely as expected... the Supra wins. The B58 + ZF 8-speed is a monster combo.

New Z is a disappointment of the decade. This comes from a Nissan/Infiniti fan.
They turned the beautiful Q60s took out the luxury, put in a crap transmission, and sold it for less.

It's not like a car manufacturer is literally building a vehicle from scratch by themselves (mining the metal, building the glass for the windows etc). A vehicle can have transmission from ZF, brakes from brembo, shocks from bilstein etc. Mercedes did not aid Nissan in the development of the Z.
No matter how you slice it, Supra is a faster car! You can tell from the roll race.
No surprises here, BMW's 382HP is obviously very conservative and the ZF8HP is just hands down a superior transmission.
BTW - 50 KPH = 31 MPH, not 32. :-)
Wow, I anticipated a door to door race with a slight advantage to the supra. Respect to the supra for giving out 5 of 6 major ass kickings. with the 1 race being pretty close (but still a dub to the supra), which is more like what I expected. Looks like 10% more cost gets you 20-30% better performance. Pretty good ROI
It's not 10% my friend. It's more like 17% ( 60k ×10% it's 66k). Don't forget the tax. With the price difference you can change the tires, suspension, mufflers, tune it, and it will still be cheaper. I don't think that the performance gap is that big. Both are fast cars. I think the Z is more spacious and comfortable.

On the track the supra will be 2 sec faster which mean nothing in the real world everyday driving. 12k$$ difference this is huge. And like I've said take the money difference and spend it on the Z and it will make the supra look like 🤡. Look what the guy with the 340i did with his car on this channel. I don't think he spent more then 12k on it. Now he have a high 10 sec car.

I respect the z and Supra very much and look at them equally. But they seem to have different driving ethos which is why I think it's odd to compare them. The Supra still retained its original recipe, rwd, inline six thats highly tunable and offers great driving dynamics. Disregard where Toyota sourced its parts for the Supra, it's still an engaging fun experience that holds true to its predecessors. Just because it's got German DNA doesn't make it a German car. Adding to the note of why I think it's odd to compare them is because they're both tuner cars, they were produced for us to take apart and do what we want with them. It shouldn't matter if one is faster than another in its stock form.
If you buy one of these and leave it stock, you're either old or a female.
Supra is nothing like previous supras.
That transmission on the new Z/ Q60 really holds back the engine.
The transmissions are different, new Z has a 9 SPD transmission while the Q50/60 has a 7 SPD transmission.

The Z just needs to be learned. People serious about racing can manipulate it. For example people in 10 speed mustangs start the race in manual mode and once underway they switch to auto mode on the fly. That is the best way to get the fastest result from a roll in the Mustang.
I’m betting the Z can do the same thing. Get some good rubber and hopefully reviews start turning around for the Z.
The Z appears to be pretty underwhelming vs the Supra. The B58 is a beast and I think a pretty competent successor to the 2J

He tried soooooo hard to make the Z beat the Supra. It’s NOT the tires. Even on roll racing the supra was pulling like a freight train. Except the one race in manual mode where the Supra driver shifted early but it still pulled and beat the Z
Toyota's not dumb. They knew exactly who to use for performance, BMW. I will say Toyota did some tweeks as the twin BMW coupe gets dusted by the Supra with the same tires.

Z is a cool car but it's on the same platform as the 370z(13 year old) and it's heavy with a crappy auto. The Supra is just better engineered all the way around(and lighter)and it makes a lot more power than the Z. It has potential though.

the Z is really disappointing. they keep saying the 10k price diff but when you look at other v8 base models it still loses. Idk if ive seen a review yet that actually chose the Z lol. It's a shame that they aren't even the best handling in the price range either.
Where do you draw the line for disappointment? Bmw 340ix with the same b58 will be way faster in 1/4 and 0-100/0-60 and more importantly stable, does it make supra shit?
Those manual rwd powerful coupes are for driver's enjoyment and one should select it according to one's background, not by synthetic youtube testing.
For example, I own a 550hp skyline r33 1996, which is a complete rocketship, it spits fire, does massive burnouts, drives like hell. Will I ever select supra as a replacement as it's faster and more refined? Of course not, it's a very synthetic and complete car, there is nothing for me to do with it.
So for me the only disappointment with Z is that it's not for sale properly yet.
@@captainbarge big difference there. The 370z was sold from 2009. In 2009, the 370z was VERY competitive in the market. The new Z shares a very similar platform and even uses some same exact parts 13 years later. People expected a new sports car, around 50k, that would be able to compete with the best others had to offer. It would be different if the straight line held its own vs the competition and the handling fell short or vice versa. But you have a car that stock to stock comes in last in almost every category. It even gets the same mpg as a scat pack charger. Handling is let down by the tires but you hear people all the time talk about how soft, and unsettled it is around a track.
The supra faced disappointment when it first came out because people expected a mark iv and got a car that was mostly bmw. However, the supra is so damn good around a track, as a daily, and in a straight line that it can overcome it. The new Z has just fallen short.
@@mphcorvette1 beauty is in the eye of beholder, right? :) I'm in dire need of modern shitbox and Z covers everything for me. Soft suspension? I will be replacing it with coilovers anyway. Bad exhaust note? It will be replaced anyway. Old platform? I will have wider mods selection. Supra/whatever faster? Compare any 400bhp manual cars on real streets, you won't get the same result 3 times out of 3.
And it's 10k less :)

@@captainbarge oh for sure mods will fix all the issues. I mean Z1 already has one with test parts over 600whp. And I respect your opinion. I mean hell you got a r34, you got the respect of 99% of car enthusiasts lol my point was more stock v stock, just disappointing that nissan didn't put more care into it.

I think it’s disrespectful to say that. Toyota didn’t just slap their name on a BMW car and call it a Toyota. Besides we should be happy these cars are being made, because both companies makes great SUV’s.
