My 2022 model 3 P has been non stop fun for the last 2 years/ 50,000miles. Been through 3 sets of tires , and only 6% battery degradation in that time. One very important thing for anyone get a performance. Do not turn on track mode on regular streets. One thing you run the risk of losing control and sliding into a curb or a tree or another car. The other thing is it does not make it faster in a drag race.!!! in fact it might make it slower . Track mode is not drag mode so you start to cool down the battery when you’re in track mode, which is not ideal if the battery is already cold. A warm 110°F is perfect for drag racing. so you might actually supercharge your car beforehand or prime the car for super charging by setting it into your destination and the battery will actually begin to warm up to ideal warm battery temperatures for drag race. I guess if you lived in a very hot Summer city you wouldn’t need to do any of that and just let the outside summertime air heat the battery for you for drag racing . When you’re on the track, you don’t have the problem of warming the battery because one lap should warm it up pretty good then you might actually start to overheat the battery which is where the track mode is useful cooling the battery. Also regen is turned off to prevent additional heat or energy going back into the battery, causing more heat and overheating. FYI There’s a difference between track day and drag racing day.

First, oversteer is slow 😊 Second if you’re not using the brakes to slow yourself when entering the corners you’re not going fast enough. Practice threshold braking to get a feel for the limit of the tires and car when entering corners. Trail braking into a corner helps you set the car into the line you want for approach. Remember to look down the track and through the corners. Avoid staring directly in front of your car or the back of the car in front. The faster you go the further you need to look ahead. Lastly, try carrying your speed into the corner trail braking while trying to apex later in your turn. Applying the accelerator exiting the corner. Smooth inputs are faster than abrupt inputs to steering & braking. I hope this helps. Great video! Thank you 🙏

Very entertaining video! Impressed that the temperatures stayed in check throughout your sessions. I'm curious how the stock Pirelli tires held up after a day at the track.
No shade to the driver, but he didn't have temp issues because he is way under the limit. 1 lap is all I could get at Laguna Seca before the car started to cut power.
Nice!!! Great video!! How far was the nearest super charger 🔌? I am taking the 2024 M3P to Buttonwillow this Saturday & they have super chargers on track. I would love to get out to streets of willow / Big willow with the M3P.
Nice that sounds like a lot of fun! Streets of willow nearest charger is 20 minutes away but didn’t even have to use it. Only ran 3 sessions since it was so hot.
Nice report. I noticed that your elbow angle is too open for a better control and for crash safety. You need to be a bit closer to the steering wheel, at least with the backrest if not with the whole seat. This is meant to be a constructive comment.
Great video and nice driving! Curious why you weren’t taking the proper way when exiting the track and instead you continued through the normal track onto the skid pad and then exited. If you watch when the Porsche Taycan exits, he is using the correct path for exiting the track. Not accusing you of anything, just wasn’t sure if you had a reason for doing that, didn’t know or if that was the direction given to you by this trackday organization. I’ve never seen anyone exit like that and seems like a potential safety issue.
Thank you for the feedback! Yeah you have an eye for detail haha. I did absentmindedly follow the taycan thinking it was the end of the session, but turns out it just had a problem with the wheel. So I got back on the track after realizing that (organizers were chill and it was nice that the track was wide open after that)
Thanks for the video Michael. What were the max. G forces you got? I saw on my car on street 1,4G on brakes, 1-1.1G corners and approx 1.1G acceleration. For non-US folks, I'm with my TM3P 2024 at Nurburgring now, will do some hot laps in the next two days.

Definitely the 2024. The suspension, new motor, even the more advanced plastic underfloor for stability. Depending how deep you want to go I’m sure you can do mods to overcome any shortfalls this car has (like better brakes and maybe cooling depending on your situation)
We are several owners in France having strong resonance coming from the Pirelli P0. It happens from 65mph up to (censored...). It seems due to the foam in the tires. Have you ever face this in your local version? We expect a fast guideline from Tesla to solve this. Other issue, click and rattles in the seat back.
@@nanterre38 haven’t experienced resonance in my tires at least not yet. Got a rattling in my front dash but actually just got it repaired by Tesla. Will see if it returns or not.
800lb lighter, stiffer suspension, better stability. If you throw carbon ceramics and upgrade the brake fluid the M3P would be really good. The plaid is a beast but unwieldy
…most purchasers of the new M3P will never ever race on a track…I have a 2018 performance…and it’s very fast…and the only reason I would buy another is if and when Tesla makes it a plaid, with 3 motors…realize that within three years the Kia Ioniq 5 N will add another 150 o 200 horsepower…and it already does sub 3 seconds…the race is on…and the S Plaid is a tank…whereas the 3 is perfect for driving…however, the new performance upgrades are not enough to greatly improve the overall car and make me consider buying…Tesla needs to realize the industry is developing cars that will exceed their M3P…give me 2.5 and I will buy it!
What did the edges of the tires look like? That'll give you a good indication of "ballpark" do you have too much or too little pressure in the tire. Curious to see what that'd be like on a car with 4000lb of heft. My old Miata was 2034lbs after much "adding lightness" but obviously lacking torque. A single temp of the tire isn't of much use. If you have several temps across the tire then that'd be of use.
@@officialmichaeltan The best thing to do is schmooz with the instructors and ask them about tire temps and how best to find it. Chances are they've had enough time with similar weight cars like the M3 to get you in the ball park. Some chalk or some "sneaker whitening goop" on the top edge of the sidewall will give you a good indication of how far the sidewall is rolling over. You don't want to eliminate this entirely by pressure adjustment alone, but it's a super simple way to check to see if your lead sled is going further than you'd like on the tire sidewall. A big circle dab on the top of the sidewall will do ya. Of course the other thing to look at is tire wear. What does it look like before and after the session? Is there much change? How does the tire wear on the track Vs on the street (over time). You do both so you have to take both into account but they may not be as mutually exclusive as you think. If you find the outside 1/4 wearing faster, if you can, dial in a little negative camber - if the Model 3 has adjustments via a cam bolt or similar. I don't have one so I wouldn't know. If you can it becomes a game of balancing the camber and toe and the tire pressure. With a bit more camber, you need less pressure to keep the sidewalls from rolling. Get a reliable temp probe and measure temps across the tire and see. It's easy to do. Temp and depth probes and pen/paper provides useful info - it's super simple yet very informative. Once you have data, if you can''t figure it out yourself, you can also chat to someone that can but without data it's all completely "subjective." If you tell someone "the back end is loose" there's a million reasons why. If you tell them, "my temps are this, my wear is this and it's loosey goosey on the rear" they can make a more informed reasoning on camber, toe and pressure. To be honest, I'd be tempted to set the oversteer/understeer slider in the middle at zero and sort the temps/wear and tire pressures first and leave that digital goodness until later. I've got a few years until I get one of these - set my main goal to pay off the house first and then have some fun. I do miss track days and especially autocross. It has been said that a could autocrosser can always track well but a good track guy may get lost in an autocross. Maybe give SCCA Solo2 a try. That'll give you ample opportunity to get good tire data and at very low risk of damage.
@@officialmichaeltan I'm still gonna buy new, just wanna pay the house off first before I get another car payment. I'm starting to get used to a life with fewer bills and after 30 years of hard graft it's actually kinda nice. LOL I raced Autocross for quite a few years. Just like with any other sport or hobby, if you want to get better seek out those with a ton of experience and ask. Most people at national level are often quiet and reserved until asked cool techie questions and then, as they used to say back in England when I was growing up there "they'll talk the hind legs off a donkey" and give away all but the most of the top tips. The reason i didn't mention getting into replacing things is that if you can get the camber/caster/toe and set the tires at the optimal pressure then you can concentrate on the really important thing: the nut that holds on the steering wheel. No, not the nut under the airbag, the driver :P Seat time, seat time, seat time and more seat time. Go find local autocrosses from all different organizations and drive them all. If you like being out all day, see how many different classes the Tesla can be in and drive all of them.
To all the non-american viewers out there, be careful watching these kinds of videos. The Global version is very different. There are already videos of the LG battery version overheating on a track where the previous model had no issues.

okay first off, please post lap times. it gauges the driver experience and also capabilities of the car. you can't give a "track" review without this. you should really preface it if you are a novice driver or new to the track. which it does seem like. to me and a few others in the comments. it seems like a parade lap for novice beginner drivers + too much traffic. talking about Gs or noises and talking about from an authoritative viewpoint really doesn't help the perception either. Just all types of random feedback that exposes ur inexperience. you keep mentioning tire screeching which has nothing to do with performance which is very annoying to someone that actually tracks. you should retitle as "My first track day" or something instead of "review" as if you are an authoritive seasoned track pro. you are in no way reaching the capabilities of the car which is why nothing is overheating for you and pardon the french "talking out of your ass".
Junk one trick pony cars. My neighbor has one and the front brakes are much smaller than my rear brakes, even though my car weighs about 100 lbs less. Why are you still trying to compare your car to a Plaid? It's not even close and if your argument, which appears to be is you're more comfortable in a slower car is laughable. The Plaid is bigger, heavier and much quicker and faster than your car. That's great that you love your car but comparing it to superior cars and coming up with a pretty pitiful reason of you feel more comfortable is quite childish. A track pack Plaid would obliterate anything Tesla currently makes, period. Unfortunately, your judgement here is taken with a grain of salt.

Very entertaining video! Impressed that the temperatures stayed in check throughout your sessions.
I'm curious how the stock Pirelli tires held up after a day at the track.
They were pretty decent I’d say. But I believe if one takes this to the track regularly they should absolutely get real racing tires.
No shade to the driver, but he didn't have temp issues because he is way under the limit. 1 lap is all I could get at Laguna Seca before the car started to cut power.
Now, shall we run the Nuremburgring? 😂😂
Hahaha that’s definitely a different story for sure.

Nice report.
I noticed that your elbow angle is too open for a better control and for crash safety. You need to be a bit closer to the steering wheel, at least with the backrest if not with the whole seat.
This is meant to be a constructive comment.
Good to know thank you! I’ve been trying to find info on seating but didn’t get the chance to ask the instructors.

Which is better for track use between 2024 vs older(22/22) models?
Definitely the 2024. The suspension, new motor, even the more advanced plastic underfloor for stability. Depending how deep you want to go I’m sure you can do mods to overcome any shortfalls this car has (like better brakes and maybe cooling depending on your situation)

Great job man. I really hate the gravel there
Haha you know what’s up. Though at least if I go off track there are no walls to smash into there.
Just a square set of 315 wide track tires(if they fit?) would make this into a monster! Heavy cars need fat tires to spread the weight around.
..and obviously some even lighter weight track wheels to fit the fatter tires.
That would be interesting! And make em sticky race tires man this thing will be zooming
Take the aero covers off the wheels next time.
I’m curious as to knowing why you prefer a M3P for the track over a Plaid
800lb lighter, stiffer suspension, better stability. If you throw carbon ceramics and upgrade the brake fluid the M3P would be really good. The plaid is a beast but unwieldy
Put on some lighter wheels and stickier tires nextime. Can only imagine 😮👍🏽👍🏽
Battery tech is progressing at breakneck speed. When these EV become lite it's the end for ICE.
Same weight as M3
I wish now that I waited on buying a mp3. I have a 2023. I really want to take mine to a road course!!!!!
You still have a top tier car! Lmk your thoughts if you end up bringing it to a track!

@@Swampster70 makes sense, good info. Definitely had some wear near the edges but nothing crazy far down
@@officialmichaeltan The best thing to do is schmooz with the instructors and ask them about tire temps and how best to find it.
@@Swampster70 nice man, you got a lot of experience. And yeah your priorities are very logical haha. I bet these will be pretty cheap used eventually
@@officialmichaeltan I'm still gonna buy new, just wanna pay the house off first before I get another car payment. I'm starting to get used to a life with fewer bills and after 30 years of hard graft it's actually kinda nice. LOL
I raced Autocross for quite a few years. If you like being out all day, see how many different classes the Tesla can be in and drive all of them.

okay first off, please post lap times. it gauges the driver experience and also capabilities of the car.
you can't give a "track" review without this. you should really preface it if you are a novice driver or new to the track. which it does seem like.
to me and a few others in the comments. it seems like a parade lap for novice beginner drivers + too much traffic.
talking about Gs or noises and talking about from an authoritative viewpoint really doesn't help the perception either. Just all types of random feedback that exposes ur inexperience.
you keep mentioning tire screeching which has nothing to do with performance which is very annoying to someone that actually tracks.
you should retitle as "My first track day" or something instead of "review" as if you are an authoritive seasoned track pro.

The plaid is one of my dream cars. It’s not ideal for the racetrack with lots of turns however. If you get on the track you will find out how important handling is.
