After more 14" gaming laptops? I've recently reviewed Alienware's x14 here and it's better than I expected! ruclips.net/video/Pf3nAlq19q0/видео.html

Hey Jarrod, any word on a review for the 2022 Predator Triton 300 SE?
One SKU (i7-12700H, RTX 3060, 16GB, 1TB) is currently available on Best Buy Canada for $2399.
      For reference the G14 (R9-6900HS, RX 6800S, 16GB, 1TB) is $2299.
      Both have DDR5, 2560x1600 Display.
The Predator has Thunderbolt and Ethernet although less port selection overall.
      Thanks,

The upgradability of the RAM is something of a double edged sword, because if you need >16GB (or end up doing so in the future) being able to add mode is a definite plus point, but if you don't then the hinderance of single channel RAM is a drawback.

@Anand I would definitely agree with the keyboard being better on the G14, latency is fairly low on both, screen definitely goes to Razer imo unless your main focus is brightness (nits) and that only applies to the 2022 models. G14s and Asus laptops in general are prone to fairly severe screen bleed...I returned 2 before getting one that wasn't God-awful. Audio I'd probably lean towards the 2022 G14 as the 2022 Blade sounded a bit tinny. That was also greatly improved in this year's models. I agree with the rest of what you said. I travel extensively for work and actually have both of these. The G14 is the one I take on more rugged trips, but the Blade 14 is my baby lol

I got the g14 6700s a few days ago. I had to exchange twice because the first two had pretty bad backlight bleed. At first it was annoying how hot the g14 got, but after playing with the manual settings I got the temps down significantly. Of course i'm not trying to push the system to its limits, i'm fine pushing less watts even it means waiting a couple more minutes for a video render. This laptop is perfect for me, i play less demanding games sometimes. For example warframe, on native resolution with high settings i max out at 120, with manual set to 75 watts total, my cpu and gpu temps stay in the 70s. I could probably get it down more but dont have enough time to really fine tune it.
Basically, i think the g14 is amazing. Just determine if it will push your games that you play. In terms of work stuff the chip is more than powerful enough for my needs even when its not maxed out. I come from a ryzen 1700x desktop and its till faster than that lol. The manual settings is what really saves this laptop for me. Can really customize it to your needs and get the temps down how you like it.
If your just min/maxing and want the highest possible performance than maybe this isnt for you, but I dont think like that at all, with the newest chip, and manual settings its fast enough for my needs for davinci, photoshop, lightroom and can play the games that i like.
Also, the screen is nice, but I cant say its amazing, the contrast isnt the greatest and like i said i had to return the first 2 cuz of severe backlight bleed.

Basically I can see the Razer's problem with upgradeability. The price of the hi-end configurations cannot justify the fact, that the max amount of RAM remains at 16GB. There has to be 32GB for sure. I think it is a big problem for Razer here. They should update this 14 inch laptop line pretty fast or watch falling sales.

I have the blade 14 for less than 2400 running on 3080ti. They are really worth the money. They have performed extremely well, they even worked extremely well for productivity use, being the cam and mic quality is so much better than most slim ultrabook that claims to be better theoretically, which is obiously not true.
You got to own one and use them long enough to really know its overall good performance apart from just pure gaming performance. They worked impressively well even when i push them hard with solidworks software. Downloads and copying large files takes amazingly lesser time to complete too, not to mention rendering. Just as Jarrod mentioned, i also experienced much much quieter fan noise, compared to every other laptop ive used when pushed hard. I can say personally, they are really good. They also now have smart charging available to limit charging percentage to 80% to protect the battery if you plug in to use it for extended hours, which increase battery longevity. Thumbs up to them doing this for better durability for battery lifecycle.

I'm going to be 100% honest with all of you, please don't waste thousands of dollars on a laptop just because you think it looks luxurious. I owned a Razer Blade 15 oled and the latest one. At first, I was pleased about it when I first spent 3 thousand dollars on the computer brand I'd always dreamed of having when I used to be a teenager in 2017(I wasn't able to afford it back then). I was impressed with the chroma keyboard customization back then. Later, after I got the razer blade 15, it was such a glory at first, but I later realized how poorly the battery life is after 2 days when I hardly used it. It got unsatisfying features on the Synapse, screen is annoying to clean when it gets filthy, sound quality isn't impressive, it's design is nothing special but continues to downgrade over time, the razer's customer service was critical, and looking back to see the criticism about the blade 15 just made me lost my courage. I just felt defrauded by razer I ended up returning it. I ended heartbroken until I was introduced to another PC brand that offers a way better advantage, ASUS ROG. I ended up getting the Asus zephyrus g15 and honestly, I really loved it at the end. I was able to easily enjoy my beautiful experience to this gaming laptop, Asus Rog got friendly service incase I got problems with my computer, price of the laptop is cheap, warranty is cheap, and it got allot of amazing features to RBG keyboard design, and specs what the zephyrus had what razer blade doesn't. Thank god I saved my wallet, and let this be a lesson to my story. Don't judge of how good a gaming laptop it looks before you get to know it's true colors.

I suppose it depends on price. In the UK the top spec G14 is £2k the same price as the G15 with the same Cpu, 3070 ti and a Qhd 240hz screen. I'd go G15 in that case. Equivalent M16 is £600 more. I think the Nvidia gpu is a safer bet for the same price. Depends what you're using it for ultimately though.

You let us down on G14 review, Jarrod. Several important things about the G14 you (nor other reviewers) didn't cover. Most important, is that we are dependent on Asus for gpu drivers. While a few have gotten drivers direct from AMD and not had problems, many others have problems since they didn't get the G14-customized ones from Asus. AMD's website release notes even show the drivers don't apply to the 6700s/6800s. I don't know why they are being treated differently than 6800m, 6700m, 6600m laptops but the G14 is and unsure who is to blame. Next, we are locked out of practically all gpu settings, cannot adjust cclock or mclock (I had expected to be locked out of power limit due to Smartshift). Lastly, until investigated and tweaked by owners, any activity on the G14 like opening a folder, causes the cpu to spike to 96 degrees. With no tweaking at all, after setup, the idle temp is also outrageously high given background apps and the cpu temp spiking constantly. Hopefully you will do a follow up analysis of these G14 issues. New models have growing pains but this stuff should have been covered by expert reviewers, certainly one as proficient and trusted as you.

I have blade 14 w/3080Ti and I love it with all my heart (lol). For me, paying the $3.5k+ is well worth getting a constant 110fps+ on warzone @1440p and Halo Infinite. There is nothing else on the market that can give me that performancem (g14 cannot do 100+) and, at the same time, allow me to carry it easily anywhere. My friend has the 2022 G14 for which I have played around with, and the build quality of the blade cannot be understated. It is thin, extremely solid, and can be used seamlessly while laying in bed or on an airplane. No screen wobble at all.
But in all honestly, I couldn't recommend it to anyone who wasn't willing to blow all that money for strict gaming. I was playing warzone on my Blade 14 in a coffee shop in Copenhagen the other day, and so many people were so intrigued about how well it played in such a small beautiful package. Thats the value of the blade IMO. But in all honestly, I couldn't recommend it to anyone who wasn't willing to blow all that money for strict gaming. I instead told people to check out the G14 lol.

Something not mentioned in the video is the keyboard layouts on non-US models. For some reason non-US models of the the G14 still come with a US-style ANSI keyboard just with region specific labelling. The non-US models of the Blade on the other hand come with regular ISO keyboards. This borderline design flaw by ASUS with the non-US G14s is important to note as it will be a deal breaker for many non-US buyers.

I actually can not believe the reply I got after waiting three weeks, it is like I am in the twilight zone. They ignored ALL my detailed reporting, were concerned why I cared that my processor got locked when I should not be undervolting anyway, even after I told them that I was under CLOCKING because Razer do not allow fan control in the high performance mode and the computer was hitting 100 degrees with barely any fan speed increase and I wanted to avoid that, and I asked WHY do they allow fan control in the LOW performance mode, and that every reviewer has pointed that out for YEARS now.. They completely ignored every word I said, even after I explained I only needed to lower the multiplier so I could use the high performance mode without hitting throttle point all the time, cause the low performance mode where you CAN adjust the fans never gets hot anyway even with auto fan! (Jarrod has discovered the exact same thing as have a ton of reviewers. IDIOTS). THEY are IDIOTS.
And they ignored when I said I said I lost access to multipliers and that lowering multipliers was GOOD for it as it lowered heat without any stability risks, and yep, they just told me to:
      RESET THE COMPUTER.
      Razer support ladies and gentlemen!
I did that first thing three weeks ago and it didn't fix it.
They ignored my blue screens, error beeps, losing the discrete GFX completely on and off.. THREE WEEKS to just say "reset the computer pressing F9 when you start".
I have not responded kindly this time and said if they don't have technicians who understand voltages/temps/multipliers etc that I was happy to teach them but they need to understand they are dealing with an experienced computer user.
NEVER EVER BUY A RAZER AS LONG AS YOU LIVE. MAKE IT YOUR LIFE'S MISSION TO NEVER SEND A CENT TO THIS DISGRACEFUL JOKE OF A COMPANY.
And Jarrod? You give these assholes a pass and always give Alienware a hard time, well Alienware's support and even their software is on another stratosphere of quality compared to these razer losers. I honestly hope you get a faulty unity one day of Razers so you can simply experience what I have, seriously, and the zero knowledge, robotic script reading idiots I have had to deal with, where you will already know more than they ever will.

    • @teddym2808
      @teddym2808 2 года назад

So they told me I shouldn't really undervolt and that it can cause instability, and to do a computer reset. That was it. This is my reply, I just copoed and pasted for anyone who is interested in this ridiculous saga (I guess I will hear back from them in another few weeks):
Have you guys actually read what I wrote, seriously?
Almost 3 weeks of waiting and I clearly said I do not undervolt or overclock the computer. I would NEVER dream of overclocking such a thermally challenged machine.
All I do is set the clock multipliers lower, i.e. underCLOCK so the computer doesn't generate so much heat. What I do is GOOD for it. This has NOTHING to do with voltage or undervolting, nada. By losing the ability to do that, the computer is running at factory Razer specs which is far too hot. Because Razer will not let me set the fans to full speed on performance mode, I am keeping the computer in balanced mode which drops as low as 2.4ghz, which is outrageous for a 4 thousand dollar laptop. If I could only set the fans on maximum in the high performance mode....
The default multipliers of an 11800H are
1 core activity at 46x for 4.6ghz clock speed
2 core activity at 46x for 4.6ghz clock speed
3 cores activity at 45x for 4.5ghz clock speed
4 cores activity at 45x for 4.5ghz clock speed
5 cores activity at 45x for 4.5ghz clock speed
6 cores activity at 44x for 4.4ghz clock speed
7 cores activity at 43x for 4.3ghz clock speed
8 cores activity at 42x for 4.2ghz clock speed - this is the max turbo speed if all 8 cores are being used.
All I did was set all those multipliers to 38x, so the computer is running at 3.8ghz maximum, so I am losing performance but it's a perfect trade off.
This avoids thermal throttle and excessive heat. In a AAA game where the graphics are heavily loaded as well, I would set the CPU to a 35 multiplier for 3.5ghz
The bus clock is 100mhz on these processors, which is what the multiplier above is calculated with, which is why 35x100 = 3500 mhz, for example.
Any game can be played at 3.5ghz.. you do not need 4.2ghz to play any current AAA game. Therefore the computer does not need to run so hot.
This kept temperatures in check because razer has terrible temperature issues as addressed again below.
Sorry but I feel I have to explain it to YOU guys! I am very experienced with computers.. My entire income was sourced from repairing and building them from 1998-2014.
Secondly, my question about fan control has been completely ignored, as if I never even wrote it. Is this why you ignore all the long time, combined multi million follower reviewers that have been complaining about the same thing? You just don't want to listen to ANYONE and what they have been saying and asking you to implement over the last few YEARS?
I was warned and BEGGED not to buy a Razer but I didn't listen and bought it anyway, and never again in my LIFETIME. Just so you know you have lost a customer for life, and I have already purchased an MSI GE67 which arrived yesterday with 12800HX/32GB Ram/3070ti/2TB SSD
A computer that crushes the one I have from Razer, at the same price.
I mean I have been so nice but I don't know how to be nice anymore cause you are ignoring what I say and a simple support query is taking weeks. I am terrified to think what would happen if the entire computer failed!
For one, I have already reset it and it didn't fix it. So that idea is out the window. I know how to do a computer reset.
This is *likely* a bios issue and again you aren't listening.
Your utility will not let me reinstall the latest bios cause it is already up to date, so I need a way to force install the very latest bios again to overwrite what is there, and this will probably fix everything. This is what I have been asking for. Furthermore, if it IS a Razer Synapse update that broke it, even with a successful reset it will just break it again when it auto updates. If there has been some microcode forced into my processor to lock it, I need to know why and how to avoid it a second time.
When I bought the computer this processer was LOCKED. I immediately, within hours, told the store I was returning it as it ran too hot and the fan control was backwards, allowing me to manually set the fans at maximum in balanced mode which never gets hot ANYWAY, but I can't set them to maximum speed in high performance mode and they are slow to ramp up and allow the processor to hit 100 degrees before the power limit kicks in and lowers performance under load to around 3.4 or 3.5ghz. This is from Razer's own built in power limit design.
The system was not designed to be able to effectively cool 4.2ghz on all cores which is why Razer has a power limit set in after a few seconds. By lowering the multiplier I was effectively just setting the CPU at speeds that were within the chassis' thermal capabilities, at all times, without boosting over 4ghz and heating up.
If I was allowed to set the fans to maximum speed manually, in boost mode, the processor would never hit the 100 degrees it does now, and I never would have needed to lower the maximum multiplier to begin with, hence MHZ speed, of the processor. Reviewers and customers have been trying to tell Razer this and you just won't listen, and now I know why. You don't listen to customers and reviewers with experience telling you when they have an issue, and go off on another tangent! This is from my own experience the past few weeks!
Anyway, within 24 hours razer supplied a bios to the store that unlocked the CPU and it has worked fine for 6 months ever since, until 3 weeks ago. It's funny when a sale is at stake just how quickly the store was able to get support form you guys!
It was because of that bios that I decided to keep the computer, as I could now run it in boost mode maintaining a reasonable speed of 3.5 to 3.8ghz, without the computer overheating and hitting 100 degrees. The most it would now hit is about 91.
When I lost the ability to lower the multipliers, in boost mode it is now running outrageously hot again since the computer is trying to hit 4.2ghz on all cores and the fan is so slow to ramp up, and since I can't pre set the fan to maximum like I can in balanced mode, I am now forced to use the Razer factory balanced mode if I don't want crazy temperatures.. However this is lowering performance drastically from where it was just 3 weeks ago. In balanced mode I get 2.4 or 2.5ghz under load now vs 3.5 to 3.8 I had when the processor was unlocked, by simply lowering the multipliers to a point where the processor didn't throttle. I do not KNOW how to explain it any clearer to you!
Furthermore I have told you and the forum admin that when this problem happened, my discrete 3070 graphics card stopped working, the computer was making a loud error beep on boot, and I kept getting blue screens. I haven't received a single word back on that!
After I loaded "default optimised bios settings" in the bios, it fixed THAT issue (so it seems for a few days now) and the discrete graphics now work again but the processor is locked.
So now let me get this right.. you took 3 weeks to simply tell me to "reset the computer", am I reading this correctly, or am I going insane?
I need to know, do you have any experienced technicians there who understand the system or do I need to explain it all to you? Power limits, voltages, multipliers etc? Cause I will if I have to!
So, no, an operating system reset doesn't fix it.
Shall we start an RMA and within the next year, hopefully I will get a fix or replacement? Cause without trying to reinstall the latest bios there is nothing else I can do from this end, unless Razer releases a Synapse/bios update from your end which fixes it.
Sincerely, but very frustrated and losing my patience,
      Ted

@@leonard3100 I have an X14, and I tried it against the G14. For my personal use, it wasn't particularly close. At first glance, the G14 seems much better, and I thought so, too, since it has a nicer screen and is able to run silently for long periods of time with pretty good battery life in casual use. When pushed, however, both of them are just as loud and hot, but I could tell that the X14 has a much stronger CPU than the G14. I personally value CPU over GPU performance, since you can always turn down graphical settings or resolution (or use DLSS) to paper over GPU weaknesses (do you NEED ultra settings?), but you can't make up for the CPU not keeping up. On RTS titles, which are my favorite, the X14 outperformed the G14 by a lot. Also, another thing is that if you have a backpack that can hold the X14 (I got an Alienware backpack), the X14 has a
lightweight USB-C brick that can charge lots of different devices, and the G14 has a chonker of a brick, though it can run on USB-C power at somewhat diminished capacity. Also, the X14 has fully functioning Thunderbolt. For someone like me that also uses MacBooks, that means, one cable docking. Of course, here I must mention that the G14, though it doesn't officially support Thunderbolt, worked fine with my TB4 dock, too. Anyway, as usual, you can't just look at reviews and decide that one computer's good and another is trash. I think the G14 is a better general purpose laptop, but if you're going to be using it close to max performance all the time and CPU performance is more important than GPU performance, then the X14 is much better.

I'm not really an avid gamer, but if I were to buy a laptop for 3d modelling & rendering purposes only, should I only care about the RAM, Processor, & GPU?
Would the FPS, Mux Switch, Bios, & others still matter?
Can I ignore the FHD screen & just buy a separate monitor?

I feel like your usually reviewing higher end models of these already higher end machines doesn't correspond to what most people will be looking for.
Most people want about the ~3060/i7/FHD sort of tier of gaming laptop, rather than 3080/i9/1440 or 4k sort of tier, I think it's more important to review what most people would go for rather than those with practically infinite budget

I've mentioned this in a few videos over the last couple of weeks. I request lower end options and brands send me their best. The only 3060 I've had this year I bought myself. I am currently testing the ideapad gaming 3 though.

The scratch on the lid is unfortunate for sure, and not blaming you, as it can happen to anyone, but just wanted to share my experience with Razer. I had a Blade Stealth 13 for about 3-4 years and after all that time, it still looked like new with no scratches anywhere. I don't think they're as easily scratched as this video might make it sound, it was just bad luck:( Not using the G14 (but a 2020 model), and I'm happy with it overall. Not sure if I need the latest model, but maybe if I come across a right deal.

Another important factor to consider is how monumentally bad Razer’s customer support is. I love the look and feel of their computers, but under no circumstances should you ever purchase one directly from their website. A quick Google search will quickly reveal just how bad the whole process is. By all means, get one through a big box store, but from my experience I will never give my money to a brand that treats their customers so poorly.

even the RX 6700S lower priced version is still insane and still wins the same pros when paired up against the blade 14, because you end up with the same insane cpu. If youre looking for a budget laptop that could do anything the best laptops could do and even more, id go for the G14 (2022) RX6700S with a 32 gb ram. it is an actual B E A S T for such a cheap price of 1.1K USD

I am between G14 and G15 maxed out.
Mostly for music production and secondarily for gaming.
I heard that Radeon is better for audio than Nvidia (latency spikes).
Would appreciate any input fellow friends.

    • @mbvglider
      @mbvglider 2 года назад +1

If you're serious about music production, you would probably want a computer that makes no fan noise, can be used live without worrying about battery use, has amazing CPU performance, has great audio drivers, doesn't drain battery or overheat in your backpack, etc. You might not want to hear this, but that would be a MacBook. If not, look for an Intel. Currently, Intel greatly outperforms AMD in CPU workloads. My short time with the G14 (which I returned) was full of blue screens for doing relatively simple things like switching fan profiles, was noticeably less CPU-capable than Intel laptops, and I definitely wouldn't want to use it for music. In any case, why does nVidia even matter for serious audio work? Your DAW would run on integrated graphics, would never touch discrete graphics. I'd go with an Intel over AMD. Maybe something like an XPS 9520. I have a MacBook Pro 14" and Alienware X14, but I wouldn't recommend the X14 for primarily audio work because of fan noise. It's a really good choice, however, if you find a nicely priced one on the Outlet Store. The 3060 is great, but honestly, the 3050 and 3050 Ti models are fine for productivity work and some gaming on the side.

    • @gusp6612

G15 gives you better performance, G14 is lighter and more portable. That simple.
I think G15 is also a bit cheaper.

    • @unendingquandary
      @unendingquandary 2 года назад

I went with the G14 between those two, but it depends on what you're looking for. The G15 is more powerful, but also less portable. For me the G14 had good enough performance and portability was a necessity considering I also take it with me to work.
