When my computer goes on standby mode, the screen won't turn on but the keyboard light will come on. My fix was to update all the drivers available. Haven't had any issues since.
I have the exact same model computer as you. I don't have the same issue, but the battery indicator LED's don't light up on the side of the computer. I hope you got it fixed!
I have this issue happen intermittenly, solved by waving the laptop like u want to drop it to the floor but cancelled. I can't describe this any better. Strange but this always solve the issue. Any logic behind this? I am wondering whats wrong
I had the same issues. How I fixed it was pressing and holding fn + power button until the computer made beeping sounds without me holding down the buttons. I powered it off and then when I turn it back on the screen worked!!
This is such bullshit Dell. Notice there are nearly 30,000 views of this bullshit problem. All my drivers and BIOS are up to date!! Never fricken buying one of there shit boxs again.
SOLUTION: This happens to me every 5 months. Remove the back lid with a T5 bit and make sure to remove the hidden screw in the middle if you have one. Then disconnect the battery. Then hold the power button for 30 seconds. Then press the power button 10 times. This will remove any power from the capacitors and reset what ever is stopping the screen from coming on. Then plug the battery back in and put everything back together. Now when you press the power button, your laptop will work again.
Power up while holding D key down, to start video test, thus confirming your display is not dead. If that doesn't solve issue, try Keith's solution but perhaps also unplug the CMOS battery as well. This model seems to have some static related issue. After getting back into Windows, use the Intel Driver & Support Assistant tool to get new non-Dell driver v.31 instead of the v.27 which Dell and Windows update will favour. Reboot and then run Windows update which will install the flaky v.27 driver again. After it installs, use Device manager > Display adapters > Intel HD Graphics 630 - right click and select Properties - Select 'Roll Back Driver' - Select reason as previous driver was more reliable; this will make your system favour the new v.31 driver, so future Windows Updates don't revert you to the flaky older Dell driver.
I had this issue just now .. keep pressing Fn button and power until a sound or an unusual thing happens .. then power on and wait .. that will work Inshallah
How long does it usually take? I have tried several times but my DELL laptop still wouldn't work. The keyboard light keeps turning on and off periodically and nothing else. The fans didn't work too. Hope you can help!
My Dell XPS 12 didn't load it just turned on like the LCD screen lit up to a black greyish screen. What I did was hold power and fn key down till it turned off then pressed power and fn again and the Dell logo turned on and it started booting! It's working now
@@CrimsxnSkydoes the screen turn grey when u power on? or does it just remain black if the screen doesnt turn on maybe the lcd is roken or the connection of the screen probably broke
Sky Plays try the pressing and fn and power thing people are saying, or open it remove the battery and hold power button for 30 secs. Then press it a couple of times after to make sure any residual charge is gone. This should make it turn on
Ha! just tried this as a last resort and it worked for me too! Not what you would expect from a laptop costing this much and less than a year old though :(
This just started happening to me. I have to remove the battery cable, and the cmos battery. Press power, a few times than the laptop comes to life. It’s now a 3 yr old laptop, but Dell lost me. I just bought a Surface Pro, after 7 generations that should be good.
Have a similar issure, altough min eonly lights up for a brief second before it goes black, then lights up again after a few seconds. I believe it is water damaged
To restart, go to your windows settings > update & security > restart now. Once you're done with that, search for Dell drivers on the Dell website and run the diagnostics to detect your drivers and update accordingly
Bayleigh Jordan Pettigrew have you tried holding the power button until the computer shuts off completely (maybe 30 seconds to a min)? Once you do you can turn it back on
i have a dell laptop it is not a touch screen. it dont have double number key.. i need help to get the screen to turn back to normal because it has turn sideways today by a press mistake. but i dont see no rotate on it so can someone tell me how can i get it to turn bk to normal. it is side ways now but i can not use it like that. .
This look like a common problem with Dell. I am having the same problem with my lap top . I tried all & the repairers are cashing on it . Never go for Dell lap tops ! HP gives a better performance !
Karri Venkata rushikesh doing a factory reset helped solve it. There were still some lingering issues with the wifi not Auto connecting at start up but that was resolved with driver updates a couple weeks ago
Karri Venkata rushikesh ya. I tried troubleshooting with them when I first had this issue and all they did was update drivers which didn't work. Good luck with it!
The easy way out to get out of the black screen is: If you able to get XPS 13 machine hook-up onto an external monitor, then, 1. Go to Device Manager or Control Panel 2. Under Display Adapter - Right Click and hit Disable Device 3. Hit Restart 4. You can see your XPS screen again. Good Luck.
Yup that works but it uses the crappy microsoft basic display driver, still better than having no screen i guess. I removed the display driver than used an older version from the dell website which is working on another XPS. So far been working for me, but I also had to block windows update from updating the driver automatically as i got the black screen again after it updated the driver back again 🤦🏽♂️
God bless this 6 yrs later and comment section!
Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes helped me .. You'll need to open up the laptop to do it though

This happens to me when the fan is blocked, like it’s on my bed or something like that
Did your fans spin when the keyboard backlight was on? I have the same issue (there is keyboard backlight, no screen), and the fans don't spin.
How did u resolve?

Thank you, it works

Jade Odobo-Wilson have you tried factory resetting your laptop and updating the latest drivers? That resolved that issue for me
Ed Hsu how do you do it please
