holy shit dude! you just saved me like hundreds of dollars. when this happened I went to the microsoft store and they told me they tried restarting it and removed the battery and nothing happened. So they said it was a "motherboard issue" (what a load of bs). They then tried to get me to pay them like 100$ to backup data and send it to Dell or purchase the support plan for a year or some bs and so I left. After I came home I found this video and only needed to get the T5 torx screwdriver. afterwards followed what you did and I was back up and running. What a Legend.

Life saver two times -- I think my laptop does this when it gets overheated -- it used to happen all the time when I had a plastic case on it-- when I took off the case it happened less frequently-- the most recent time was I left it in the back of my hot car. This video is a serious lifesaver thank you!!

Thanks a lot for making this video, good sirs! My Dell XPS 13 9350 looked completely dead without even the LED lighting up.
Other forums suggested disconnecting the battery but that didn't help. Disconnecting the CMOS battery did the trick for me!

Just wanted to say thank you sir! Your solution about disconnecting the battery and CMOS helped me diagnose my issue. One of the wires connecting to my CMOS broke so the laptop did not start. I reconnected the wire to the battery, plugged everything back in and the laptop started just like in your video.

My laptop ran out of battery collecting dust and it pissed me off to find it died doing nothing. I followed other guides on disconnecting the battery and pressing the power button. However, your video worked because it seemed removing the cmos battery did the trick. My laptop appears to be charging, but I will give it time to charge to full before turning it on again.

This fix worked for me! Thank you so much for posting. I had exactly the same symptom (power button, light stays lit for 15 seconds, then turns off). I didn't do anything in particular to cause it -- it just happened one day. I had used the computer the previous day without any issue. Most recently, I had been powering it through USB-C with a thunderbolt dock. Resetting the BIOS forced the system to boot, and now it works normally.
I wondered about your suggestion about replacing the CMOS battery. I researched online, and although a replacement battery was easily available (on amazon for $8 or on ebay, for only $1.80 direct from china) I could not find any information about how often the cmos battery needs to be replaced, or even whether anyone ever had to replace it. As far as I can see, the battery should last for more years than the lifetime of this computer. Also, I didn't have any symptom of a bad cmos battery - ie. booting up to find that the bios had reset itself.
I did, however find that my main battery needs replacement. I booted and pressed F12, and ran the diagnostics, and I was told that my battery had reached the end of its useful life. So I plan to replace the Li-Ion battery first, and later on, I'll think about whether I need to replace the CMOS button cell.
Also, after booting up, I found that 3 drivers need to be upgraded, including the BIOS, from version 1.9 to 1.10. It's not clear whether this 'lockout' was caused by any errant driver - probably not, but now I'm up to date with everything.

    Hey thanks dude.
My XPS 13 wouldnt start this morning and this procedure worked. All it costed me was a 5$ tor-x screwdriver kit.
One little piece of information I might add in case someone else has that issue: after this procedure, I had to start the system by holding Fn + Power for some reason, which booted in diagnostic mode. I ran all the tests successfully, rebooted and managed to boot to Windows.
    Cheers.

Hello Jay! May I please know what caused your laptop to brick? I unknowingly interrupted BIOS firmware update. If it worked for you due to similar problem, it might work for me as well. Thanks.

After watching the video, I was about to try this procedure. But I decided to first just try holding the power button down for 20 seconds. It fixed the problem.

I took my laptop to some guys that charged 80 up front just to get them to see what’s wrong with it
Later after 5 days they finally contacted me to tell me my computer needed to be shipped from Memphis Tennessee to Atlanta Georgia to get fixed at the expense of my wallet!
I instead took it back despite paying 80 bucks and not getting it fixed and RUclips’s this guy and fixed it myself within 15 mins
What a scam those guys are and what life saver this guy here is!
