I've same issue with my ZBook 15 G3 Laptop... I just started my laptop was working fine under very Minute load like downloading a file... suddenly windows 10 blue screen error message covered content saying your PC need restart like that... Then I tried to turn my laptop ON but unsuccessful... Caps Lock and Num Lock blink 5 times CPU/GPU Fans spin but no Display... I've tried many available solutions on internet... Like tried to restore BIOS, Installing BIOS from USB from recommended methods etc... Then unwillingly opened lid properly using proper tools unplugged Battery, 2-3 min of pressed Power button unsuccessful... cleaned RAM but unsuccessful... Then again CMOS battery unplugged and power button formula again unsuccessful... Removed heatsinks cleaned excess thermal compound and connector of card cleaning by isopropanol etc again plugged all interfaces unsuccessful... Again tried without SSD and HDD but unsuccessful... I also tested temperature by simply touching heatsink which heats up very little bit higher as compared to OFF Stage which in my opinion is normal... SSD few chips also increase temperature on start-up which in my opinion is common in high speed and performance electronics components.... So any recommendation or HACK you think may help me to put my book in work...

I want to point out that the general idea helped me a lot. The difference was that my laptop never booted the USB with the bios update even while holding the key combinations mentioned in the video, because I had disabled the option boot from USB. So after removing the power cable and holding the power button for like 17 sec as suggested by HP I managed to unblock the bios (I was restarting the laptop for almost 16 hours in a row until the screen switched on). I then entered the bios enabled boot from USB restarted and worked like a charm!!!

Thanks for this! I've used Dells for literally all my life and have little to no trouble repairing most issues. My mom's HP gave a caps lock blinking three quick blips this morning, but I couldn't figure out how to access the BIOS. I was going to link it to my laptop with an HDMI, but now I'm defintely going to try the Windows+B or V. I'll definitely give the bootable BIOS recovery a shot as well. My nephew tried to blow out her fans over Thanksgiving. I initially thought just externally, but apparently he opened the back cover as well, so that may be a complicating problem, haha. Do you know if an unseated display cable or fan cable would cause the caps lock blink indication? I've only ever seen it on Dells with BIOS problems or perhaps improperly seated RAM modules. Thanks for the video.
Usually the causes have documented blink codes. Searching the blink codes for your model can help. Modern HP's have automatic bios updates, so if that got aborted or failed its a likely cause. My laptop probably got wrecked by one to, but mine has a auto recover so it fixes itself without me needing to do these steps.

I had a similar issue recently which others may be facing. Short version: Try replacing your laptop battery. Long version: I replaced the battery in my HP Omen 15-ax011np laptop two years ago and I recently started receiving warnings about the battery not holding a charge. I ignored these messages as my laptop is always plugged in anyway. One day, the laptop suddenly wouldn't boot to Windows. It would turn on, the fans would start spinning but all I would see is a black screen and the CAPS lock flashing slowly 5 times and then quickly 3 times. I opened up the laptop, cleaned the fans, cleaned the old thermal paste on the CPU and GPU, reapplied fresh thermal paste, unplugged the hard drives, the memory, but nothing worked. I tried replacing the CMOS battery (the coin shaped one) but could not find one despite the manual indicating one existed. I read an online post that said modern laptops no longer use a dedicated CMOS battery but rather use the main battery. Given the CMOS battery is essential for the BIOS settings to be retained and for the system to boot up, my last resort was to replace the main battery. This time, it turned on but complained there was no operating system. I recalled that when I set up the laptop I had used legacy boot rather than UEFI but the BIOS settings had now been reset to defaults so I just needed to enable legacy boot in the BIOS and the laptop booted to Windows and I haven't had an issue since. I hope this helps someone else to avoid more unnecessary landfill waste.

Thank you so very much for this video! This fixed my issue with my laptop. This is some background to my issue so that maybe this could help someone else. My HP Envy-K7-111DX laptop was sometimes turning on and sometimes not turning on. It would seem that sometimes it booted right into windows and sometimes it just wouldn’t boot at all. The caps lock button was blinking twice, so I found this video. After updating my bios, my laptop has been working perfectly fine now. Thanks for this!
I downloaded the updated bios but when I insert the pen drive to my laptop the press windows+B nothing shows up on the screen ? What to do then please help..
All I would like to say is THANK YOU SO MUCH. Also update, insert flash to the 2.0 or slowest usb port in the computer, for some reason it wouldn't work when i plugged usb into 3.0.
Thank you very much mister. I have been told that it was a BIOS problem and it costed 60 euros to solve it. The other solutions I saw in RUclips required to open the notebook. I even tried to do that 😂. I did what you did in the video and I can use my computer again 💪 .
Great video helped me with other hp laptops with the caps lock problem. But my last one was a bad RAM CHIP shows all the same problems but a different thing to do no need to bios update hope this helps if anybody still not getting there one to work :-D
i wish i had watched this before i took it to the repair shop ( a very clueless and expensive fella) who unplugged the inbuilt battery and did a couple of things to turn it on, which he succeeded in doing but when it was finally on the screen was cracked and now i have to spend more money to replace it. What's more when i got home with my cracked screen coz i could not afford to replace it, the computer had the same problem. out of desperation i searched RUclips and voila this method worked on the first try.

I have a question. It may seem silly, but here it is: in the section where you were searching the model number of the laptop on HP Support website, which laptop's model number were you searching? Is it the model of the bad laptop or the model of the good laptop that you were working on to set up the recovery BIOS on the flash drive? Please reply 🙏

Hi, I had the similar issue with my hp laptop and was not able to work on it I called the supplier whom I bought (currys) about 2 years ago and they said its gonna be £75 repair charges plus if any parts may need replacement. Fortunately, I bumped into your video and tired Windows+B and it worked. Thank you saving me the repair cost.
Wow that's awesome thanks for letting me know. Happy to help
Thank You Eric. Great video. Still useful in 2024. A friends laptop had similar issue and he was bit frantic as he had lot of important data in it & he thought his laptop is bust forever. Was able to revive it with the help of this video. He has promised me a treat in return.🙂
You are welcome. Enjoy that treat 🍩
Mighty fine video but remember to have a fully charged battery and the charger pluged in while updating the bios
Remember also to Update the bios when Hp tells you to
Download and install the hp support assistant it`s free
Yo this actually helped, easier than anything, I had to open and get the motherboard out to replace a CMOS battery but it was the BIOS that needed replacement lol
Dang, tried all sorts of combos but watching your video made me try and wait longer while the damn screen caps light flashed. If anyone is watching this with an older HP 17 J030us (i7-4700), the usb plug that worked was the one on the right, closest to the power plug. All the other plugs didnt work.
ty dude you helped me very much first time i recovered a bios i was so confused bcs i didnt saw any damage on the mainboard and nothing that told me it was damaged also its kinda rare that mainboards have a defect so i checked all the other hardware twice and didnt know what to do i was lucky that i saw your video
Do we lose all the data if we reinstall the bios ?
No
Hi! Great video, seems to be the only solution. I tried it on my HP G62 but after running the exe, i am getting an error message right after extracting the files: IHISI: Get support model fail in SMI! Any ideas on that? Thanks
Thankyouuu Thankyou Thankyouu I Was Tried Windows+B+Power 5 sec And Press Power on again
Good work 👏
Other videos will tell you it’s the motherboard or the memory. Thank you for finally exposing the TRUTH of what the blinking light on Caps Lock really means.
Followed instructions on this video, my laptop works again.
Subscribed!
Happy to help 🤝 I appreciate you bro
Thank you so much, you are a true life saver!
You are welcome
Thank you so very much for this video! This fixed my issue with my laptop. This is some background to my issue so that maybe this could help someone else.
My HP Envy-K7-111DX laptop was sometimes turning on and sometimes not turning on. It would seem that sometimes it booted right into windows and sometimes it just wouldn’t boot at all. The caps lock button was blinking twice, so I found this video. After updating my bios, my laptop has been working perfectly fine now. Thanks for this!
Thanks! Holding down the power button for 10 seconds to turn it off, and holding down windows +B while turning it back on worked for me. 😊
I downloaded the updated bios but when I insert the pen drive to my laptop the press windows+B nothing shows up on the screen ? What to do then please help..
Same happened with me
Same noting works for real after that ,,total saxs
Bro same with me helf pls
Same issue here, have you been able to fix it now?
Has anyone figured out how to fix it
What causes a corrupted bios??
Cracked games l😂
Ejemplo, Cuando estás instalando una actualización y de repente se te apaga la laptop.
Cuando cambias muchas configuraciones y alteras mucho la BIOS, Algún corto en placa o mi ejemplo los juegos crakeados 😂
I m searching the solution so many years ,maybe 8 to 10 years , finally I got the, now I am ur fan

All I would like to say is THANK YOU SO MUCH. Also update, insert flash to the 2.0 or slowest usb port in the computer, for some reason it wouldn't work when i plugged usb into 3.0.

THANK YOU MAN! I had got my pc fixed and it just completely died out. You saved my pc from going to the trash! Thank you!
You are welcome. Glad I was able to help
Thank you very much mister. I have been told that it was a BIOS problem and it costed 60 euros to solve it. The other solutions I saw in RUclips required to open the notebook. I even tried to do that 😂. I did what you did in the video and I can use my computer again 💪 .
Glad to save you money 💲🤝
Great video helped me with other hp laptops with the caps lock problem. But my last one was a bad RAM CHIP shows all the same problems but a different thing to do no need to bios update hope this helps if anybody still not getting there one to work :-D
OMG! Thank you so much! I was about to cry and your video is the first to pop up and it worked perfectly! You are my Angel haha!
i wish i had watched this before i took it to the repair shop ( a very clueless and expensive fella) who unplugged the inbuilt battery and did a couple of things to turn it on, which he succeeded in doing but when it was finally on the screen was cracked and now i have to spend more money to replace it. What's more when i got home with my cracked screen coz i could not afford to replace it, the computer had the same problem. out of desperation i searched RUclips and voila this method worked on the first try.
This was a life saver , my hp pavilion laptop is back to normal now with just win+B
Thank you so much for this ,almost took my laptop to a repair shop .
Watching from South Africa 🇿🇦

You are amazing!! I first tried windows+B, and then windows+V and later just B and it worked!! Thankyou so much❤️🫶
I have a question. It may seem silly, but here it is: in the section where you were searching the model number of the laptop on HP Support website, which laptop's model number were you searching? Is it the model of the bad laptop or the model of the good laptop that you were working on to set up the recovery BIOS on the flash drive? Please reply 🙏
Your tutorial helped me fix my HP pavilion 15n208tx 2013 model. Many thanks.

Hi this is useful. It happens to my HP laptop after like 11years...I tried the press windows + B + power and it works. The screen turns baxk on and luckily I do not have to do the thumbdrive method. But one question is why will this happen to the laptop and what makes it to happen and does this happens to all the laptop brand. Thanks.
It has worked for me ..I used Windows and V Button. Thanks
