For anyone still wondering why this fix wouldn't work, I had the same issue and got it resolved with one extra step. When you try to install the BIOS update using USB, your laptop doesn't detect it, this could happen when "Legacy Boot" option is disabled in the Boot menu. The difference was that my laptop never booted the USB with the bios update even while holding the key combinations mentioned in the video, because I had disabled the option boot from USB. So after removing the power cable and holding the power button for like 17 sec as suggested by HP I managed to unblock the bios (I was restarting the laptop for almost 16 hours in a row until the screen switched on). I then entered the bios enabled boot from USB restarted and worked like a charm!!!

I had a similar issue recently which others may be facing. Short version: Try replacing your laptop battery. Long version: I replaced the battery in my HP Omen 15-ax011np laptop two years ago and I recently started receiving warnings about the battery not holding a charge. I ignored these messages as my laptop is always plugged in anyway. One day, the laptop suddenly wouldn't boot to Windows. It would turn on, the fans would start spinning but all I would see is a black screen and the CAPS lock flashing slowly 5 times and then quickly 3 times. I opened up the laptop, cleaned the fans, cleaned the old thermal paste on the CPU and GPU, reapplied fresh thermal paste, unplugged the hard drives, the memory, but nothing worked. I tried replacing the CMOS battery (the coin shaped one) but could not find one despite the manual indicating one existed. I read an online post that said modern laptops no longer use a dedicated CMOS battery but rather use the main battery. I've been having the same problem but nothing is working. I've tried the flash drive method but that isn't working either what else can I do to fix this issue?
Thanks for this! I've used Dells for literally all my life and have little to no trouble repairing most issues. My mom's HP gave a caps lock blinking three quick blips this morning, but I couldn't figure out how to access the BIOS. I was going to link it to my laptop with an HDMI, but now I'm defintely going to try the Windows+B or V. I'll definitely give the bootable BIOS recovery a shot as well. My nephew tried to blow out her fans over Thanksgiving. I initially thought just externally, but apparently he opened the back cover as well, so that may be a complicating problem, haha. Do you know if an unseated display cable or fan cable would cause the caps lock blink indication? I've only ever seen it on Dells with BIOS problems or perhaps improperly seated RAM modules. Thanks for the video.
Usually the causes have documented blink codes. Searching the blink codes for your model can help. Modern HP's have automatic bios updates, so if that got aborted or failed its a likely cause. My laptop probably got wrecked by one to, but mine has a auto recover so it fixes itself without me needing to do these steps.

So this didn't work, but I'll tell you what did. Turning the power off. Taking off the battery. Unplugging the charger. Holding down the button for 15 seconds. Putting the battery and charger back in. Pressed the power button. Before my eyes... the caps lock button didn't blink, and THE SCREEN TURNED ON. Did I try this before this video? Yes. But I was in such a panic I missed the part when I was supposed to hold the power button with the battery and charger out. I'm a nump. However, I'm so happy I figured it out and I'm currently just waiting on it to finish its updates. 😊
Yo this actually helped, easier than anything, I had to open and get the motherboard out to replace a CMOS battery but it was the BIOS that needed replacement lol

Download and install the hp support assistant it`s free
Thank you so so much
Usually when I try long and complicated DIY tutorial they never work but this one is the first and I am so grateful
Once again thank you
Tysm. Its been days that ive had this problem with my laptop. 😭😭 i need it for school, so this was a life saver.
And what about no removable battery laptops?
Yo this actually helped, easier than anything, I had to open and get the motherboard out to replace a CMOS battery but it was the BIOS that needed replacement lol
Thank you so much, you are a true life saver!
You are welcome
Dude, you rule. You saved my parents $165.00. God Bless.
hace dos años publicaste este video y hoy 14 de octubre del 2023 me ha funcionado y me has ahorrado mucho dinero en no llevar mi laptop a repararla. muchas gracias
Con que teclas encontraste la bios
Mam man man thank you so much win + b and it worked
I was able to boot
I had taken it to laptop shop and they guy told me everything is corrupt and he needs to format my disk and re install windows
I went crazy and came back and searched up RUclips
I should have checked youtube before going to shop
These local service centers and shop owners have a kind of protocol or set of procedure, whatever the issue is they'll follow their procedure only, not root cause analysis nothing
I would be in big trouble if without your video
Thank you so much
Hello brother, I also have a HP laptop and I was facing the same issue. So i did what you instructed. But just after the first step that pressing of windows + B key nothing happened but after that the blinking disappeared and the Light showing when charger is connected has also disappeared. When i pressed the power button again nothing happened. The blinking is also absent this time. Please help.
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH.... YOU SAVED MY LIFE...❤️
Yw ❤️
Hi! Great video, seems to be the only solution. I tried it on my HP G62 but after running the exe, i am getting an error message right after extracting the files: IHISI: Get support model fail in SMI! Any ideas on that? Thanks
i literally went over a year with my laptop not working and just found this and it worked! thank you so much!!!
You are welcome 🤗
Your video gave me hope. I don't have the same laptop, but the same lights you had going off, mine as well. Fan blows at a 100%. Tried everything you walked us through to include rebooting from USB for BIOS recovery. I even tried 2 different thumbs drives just in case. ALSO, while trying to read the USB, tried the windows button + V and then just the b-button, no dice.
Do we lose all the data if we reinstall the bios ?
No
Thx for the video apperently it dosent work for me. I did all this but its black. Im on a omen laptop. Any clue ?
Not the hero we deserve but the hero we wanted thanks man❤
Hi, I had the similar issue with my hp laptop and was not able to work on it I called the supplier whom I bought (currys) about 2 years ago and they said its gonna be £75 repair charges plus if any parts may need replacement. Fortunately, I bumped into your video and tired Windows+B and it worked. Thank you saving me the repair cost.

Bro I have same problem with my hp pavilion gaming 17, just back screen, I pressed windows + b and power but the screen stays black
I have a HP P6-2120 Pavillion desktop with the same issue. No keys worked at all. F10, F2, ESC... I tried it all... so frustrated
@@MarieKaahu99 @whatsnext7353 any updates? what happened?
What causes a corrupted bios??
Cracked games l😂
Ejemplo, Cuando estás instalando una actualización y de repente se te apaga la laptop.
Cuando cambias muchas configuraciones y alteras mucho la BIOS, Algún corto en placa o mi ejemplo los juegos crakeados 😂
Thanks! Holding down the power button for 10 seconds to turn it off, and holding down windows +B while turning it back on worked for me. 😊
Other videos will tell you it’s the motherboard or the memory. Thank you for finally exposing the TRUTH of what the blinking light on Caps Lock really means.
Followed instructions on this video, my laptop works again.
Subscribed!
Happy to help 🤝 I appreciate you bro
Many times, this issue IS due to a bad memory chip. So, for those who can't use this method, CHECK YOUR MEMORY CHIPS.

My HP Envy-K7-111DX laptop was sometimes turning on and sometimes not turning on. It would seem that sometimes it booted right into windows and sometimes it just wouldn’t boot at all. The caps lock button was blinking twice, so I found this video. After updating my bios, my laptop has been working perfectly fine now. Thanks for this!

Thank you very much mister. I have been told that it was a BIOS problem and it costed 60 euros to solve it. The other solutions I saw in RUclips required to open the notebook. I even tried to do that 😂. I did what you did in the video and I can use my computer again 💪 .
