    Even though I'm going into the medical field, I still desperately want snake bites and some angry boomers won't stop me from getting them.

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  4 года назад +198

      First off, I'm not fan of ageism. In fact it was the same generation that you claim are against piercing are the one that developed modern piercing.
      With the medical industry, you are dealing with two out dated opinions. The first is that piercings are some how unsanitary and that patients will not consider you an authority or professional. Both of those have nothing to do with age. They have to do with the general perception of piercing.
      As more and more people get piercing and tattoos, it will be one more difficult for the medical industry and other professional industries to avoid hiring modified people. This prejudice will have to be altered in your own generation first.

      @@BodyPiercingTattooing It'll be a good 2-4 years before I can actually get into the career I want.
      A lot can change by then, obviously.
      I'm still expecting having to take my piercings for work. (unless I plan on getting them ripped out by an uncooperative patient lmao)
      Side note: When I said angry boomers, I was really just referring to the people who have way outdated opinions. It's something I say all the time without thinking, and I'm sorry if sounded pretentious there.

      A lot of issues start with playing with oral piercings. It's hard not to. Parents tend to get over it but removing oral piercing even after they are healed and it's only for part of the day often leads to closure.
      It's always a balancing act between looking the way you see yourself and what is acceptable to your employer. Sometimes they surprise you but too often they will push the conservative side as far and as long as they can.

      Btw they exist some piercing that are made of medical silicone, ones its heal you can change your piercing for one of silicone, those are hardly visible, and sometimes it even looks like a pimple.
      Any ways bougt the ones that arent curve, the curve ones made out of silicone are problematic, even tho you perfo have already heal.

    So, I have rings in a snakebite pattern, I love em.
    On a scale of 1-10 the pain of these was 3 at best. Less painful and easier to heal than an orbital pricing, for instance.
    The rings don't come into contact with teeth at all for me, so deep bonus there.
    They heal well. I will say the first couple to 3 weeks eating can be hard. No sandwiches. None. Most burritos and tacos suck too. Anything that's "wide mouth eating".
    My girlfriend hated how little I could kiss her while healing.
    After they heal they won't bug you at all. Kiss and eat subway to your hearts content.
    You cannot swim till they heal. Get these in winter, lol. If you are a rule breaker get you in the shower, hit them with a little soap. Saline them after. But please, don't swim.
    I'm lucky I work for a progressive tech company, lip piercings are not weird for them. My boss is ok with them, but she was a little "uhhhhh" at first :)
    You will, in the Midwest and more conservative areas get weird micro aggressive looks from time to time, you get used to it.
    Getting new jewelry in: try to hook your lip like a fish: inside to outside, I find that easiest. (With rings anyway)
    Saline is your best friend as always for healing. Be careful about soap - my piercer recommended it but it really dried out piercings.
    One thing on that note: the outside and inside openings can heal at different rates. For me the inside healed quicker.
    Overall super recommend them. :)

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  4 года назад +125

      Thank you for sharing your experience. Yes the inside will heal much faster than the outside. Usually 3-4 weeks.
      Hint on rings, try fixed bead or seamless that are annealed. Bend them like a cork screw and it will be much easier to get them in.

    snake bites are my favorite piercing (or set of piercings) that i’ve ever gotten. i don’t live in a conservative area and my career path allows for facial piercings, so i had no issue on that end. i struggled a bit eating really big food like burgers or sandwiches for awhile but other than that i had absolutely no problems with my snake bites (when i got them redone correctly by a trusted piercer) i highly recommend this piercing if it fits your lifestyle :)

    When I was 16 a "piercer" pierced my snake bites...it left permanent nerve damage on my left side and a big keloid scar on the inside of my lip. Now I'm 33 and pierced my right side again myself and its doing great. One thing to mention, I did work as a piercer for a tattoo shop in my early 20's. I'm lucky I also work at home now and do not need to wear a face mask all day, only when going out. But Id say on a pain scale, my rook was the worst one I've done. When the other guy pierced my lip when I was 16 it literally felt like hell. It hurt so bad, now that I am older and have had a ton more piercings I can tell what he did wasn't right. Doing it myself it wasn't bad at all. Definitely not telling everyone to go out and pierce themselves...I was trained on how to do it. But I am saying, get to know your shop and piercer...because that first guy I went to was very sketchy and his shop was shut down not long after he ruined my lip. I've learned A LOT since then.

    I got my snakebites 14 years ago when I was 18. Pain wasn't bad. Never had any issues with healing or infections. I have labrets. I did have them for 2 years almost. And had to take them in and out for work. I eventually got tired of putting them in and out so I left them out for 12 years. Every once in a while id stick an earring through out of curiosity to see if they were open. They stayed open most of the time. It wasn't until a few years ago I noticed they were closing up. About a few months ago I got back into piercings and I "repierced" them. Most of the hole was still there just some skin in the middle somewhere I had to break through. I was pierced at an 14g. They had shrunk to an 18g. After I repierced them and they had time to heal i did stretch to a 16g where I am staying. They do hit my teeth sometimes depending on how I move my mouth. However most of the time they sit nicely squished into the inside of my mouth. They dont effect me eating or drinking too much. Its just something you get used to. You train yourself to move your mouth to avoid catching them. But even so it was never a huge issue for me. Glad I have them back!!

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  4 года назад

      When piercings close, they will first shrink down and re-connect in the center. Then the body begins to fill in outward. It's why often the piercings will be closed but appear open.
      Congratulations on getting your piercings back. It's incredible how they become a part of you and you miss them when they aren't there. Give it plenty of time before you stretch them. The longer you wait the easier it will be.

    I got my snake bites done with labret piercings. However throughout the healing process I had the issue with the inside of my lip trying to heal over the back of my labret and it caused alot of irritation.
    After a few days of pain and annoyment I switched over to rings and I didn't have any problems other than some pain when the piercing was sliding through my lip with those dry crustys on the bar, which with more attentive cleaning, that problem was a easy fix

    I have 11 ear piercings and have had my nose and belly button done. Labrets by far the easiest. Heal quick and not fussy ever. Having a big fat bottom lip is helpful, lucky to have the anatomy.
    My dentist checks out my gums every visit. Gonna be hard , the day I have to retire them.

I have quite a few piercings including a crystal dermal anchor and I’m watching this video because I’ve been wanting snakebites for years (I’m 24) but honestly my bright blue hair is mentioned more than the piercings. My workplace is super accepting though so I’m very lucky. And in return for getting to be myself, I work my very best!! People respect me, I respect them, simple. The elderly (I call them that because I literally care for the elderly and people with dementia and some adults with learning difficulties but they’re all 80s-90s) get a bit confused or make comments but that’s just their time frame I guess, but honestly most of them can’t even see it anyway.

    From my eperience with my snake bite (only got one) do NOT change jewellery as soon as you can just because you THINK it's sort of healed (be SURE that it is and as mentioned in the video - let a professional do it, I most likely did it wrong and had the wrong rized ring). Do NOT be stubborn and switch jewellery a bunch if your piercing is only 2-3 months old. Got myself a new wound so I had to go back to cleaning regularly. Do not rush with healing piercings and don't be stubborn with using jewellery that clearly doesn't work the first time. In that case go back to the normal jewellery and wait a few more weeks :) I wanted a ring so badly but having to treat it as a new piercing all over again sucks more than having boring jewellery tbh.

      Most studios will not allow you to pierce until you are 18. It does depend on where you are at but there is a liability issue and whether you cam enter into a contractual agreement.
      Now that does not mean that you can't hang out and build a working relationship with an artist and studio. Many people got their start in this business pushing a broom, cleaning up, and helping out around the studio.

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  4 года назад +4

      I do not suggest getting pierced by anyone that doesn't require consent of a legal guardian. Yes, you may live in an area where piercing is unregulated but in the US and most nations, you can not enter into a contract until you are of legal age.
      Meaning if something goes wrong during or after the piercing is done or your parents are simply upset that you got the piercing, the piercer could be open to a law suit or criminal charges for endangering a minor and assault.
      If a "professional" piercer is will to take the risk of being sued or having criminal charges brought against them, what other risks are they willing to take? It comes down to ethics and where you should trust this person with your health and well being.

    To all those watching in 2022 wondering about face masks: make sure that it's a loose mask to assure that it wont cause irritation or press on it too much !
    Saving up money to be able to get these piercings, and the mask bit would definitely help. Considering i have school, it'd be useful/helpful to wear a mask the entire school day, and take it easy. Just to make sure that they dont get infected, and/or dont have pressure put onto them. :)

      When in doubt stay away but if you wash raw vegetables and use a clean knife, you should be safe. Fermented is a different situation but since usually harmful microorganisms are killed off during fermentation, you should be fine.

    On the point of them closing quickly, I found Bodyartforms (and probably others) sells silicone retainers with a weird heart shaped tail that are super comfy. They're trickier to put in a squishy area like the lip versus say a cartilage piercing, but I think they feel better than glass or acrylic retainers

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  9 месяцев назад

      The main issues with silicone is there are different grades and often the silicone being sold is not biocompatible or implant grade. The other is that the material has been known to stick to the piercing tissue and then damage the piercing when the jewelry is removed.

    My Pros and Cons for this beautiful piercing,,,
    Pros: It looks so freaking cool oh my god
    My mother agreed as long as I pay for it
    It looks super cool
    It heals rather quick and doesn't usually go wrong
    Cons: I'm now in a world where I'm required to wear a face mask and at school I wouldn't be able to change it out constantly
    I bite my lip because of my anxiety and I would definitely mess with my piercing (though with the biting it might help me stop)
    I'm worried about my piercing place because I've never had a piercing before though I did read a lot of good reviews
    I want to swim this summer ;-;
    Middle Ground: I'm in colorguard and the judges are really strict on appearances but if I get it soon then it SHOULD heal in time for me to replace it with a clear one or clear retainer (That's what they called it I'm unsure I'd take it up with my piercer )
    No swimming this summer ;-;
    I'm worried the piercer will mess up or I'll say something that's wrong and they'll do what I told them instead of what I actually wanted/\

    Hey y'all I have been debating on getting snakebites on my top and bottom lips and have some questions/concerns.
    1. Have anyone of y'all experienced trouble with possible employers due to your snakebites? If so, how often does this happen?
    2. Has anyone had people judge or avoid you because of your piercings?
    3. Is infection something to be worried about? Should I be worried about the bacteria in my mouth?
    4. Do the piercings impede eating or drinking?
    5. If you have removed and let your lip piercing close, have you had any problems with scar tissue? Either from someone else or yourself? And is it noticeable at all?
    6. Is it possible to use both curved dumbbells & rings in the same piercing?
    Sorry about any dumb questions, I'm somewhat new to the piercing game.Huge thanks to anyone who can help!

      1. It really depends on the employer and it can be strange. I've had clients that had issues with the piercing while working at a fast food chain but others that worked in fine dining being encouraged to get visible piercings and tattoos.
      2. People who tend to judge people based on appearance only, will. Though if the piercing is common in your area, I doubt it will be an issue at all.
      3. If you take care of the piercings the chances of infection are very small.

      5. Scar tissue from lip and labret piercings can be very noticeable for decades after the jewelry is removed.

    Yes I'm one who can. I got it pierced like 10 years ago. Took it out like 5 years ago and it took a few minutes of pushing to slowly get it back in but it went through the original hole. No swelling or healing was needed.

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  4 года назад +6

      I would highly suggest you see your piercer or doctor. It's hard to say what it is or what caused it and until you get rid of the cause it won't go away.

    • @DaveBailey18
      @DaveBailey18 4 года назад +5

      @@BodyPiercingTattooing I left out the part of me getting pierced with hoops and I didn't down size. 6 weeks after I got pierced I did go back to the place where I got it done at but I was unable to see who pierced me. I saw another piercer and she said it was from the hoops moving too much. Since then the bump has reduced in size and formed a bump on the outside before that one is almost cleared up but the inside bump is still hard and painful. That is concerning enough to get it checked out futher by another piercer.

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  4 года назад +4

      @@DaveBailey18 it could be scar tissue or it could be and abcess or cyst. If it's painful I'm leaning towards it maybe being the later. If it does seem to go away do see someone else or a doctor.

    I get my first piercings, the snake bites, a couple days ago, I have a couple questions:
    Is it normal for the swelling on my lip to go around the base of the labret? How long does it take for the swelling to subside?
    I'm making my dental cleaning as my piercer recommended me, using a alcohol-free mouthwash and cleaning the outside with boiled water with some marine salt (also making rinsing with that formula).

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  3 года назад +4

      The swelling usually last 3-5 days. It shouldn't exceed the length of the jewelry. If it does you need to have a longer post put in.
      A better option for cleaning the outside is a sterile saline spray like neilmed piercing aftercare or wound wash spray.

    I am getting snake bites soon, but I am worried about the price of them. I know each place has their own prices, but is there like a price range for snake bites? Love the video.

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  4 года назад

      Price can be greatly different from market to market. I charge roughly $110-140 depending on jewelry. In larger markets you could see as high as $200.
      I always suggest to focus more on the experience of the piercer and the quality of the jewelry. If you get a bargain, it usually means that they are unskilled or are cutting cost some where. Many studios offer special offers from time to time, so zero in on the studio and pay attention to the site and social media.

    • @BodyPiercingTattooing
      @BodyPiercingTattooing  4 года назад +1

      It depends on how much contact and pressure the mask has. Also you want to be concerned how clean the mask is.
