I honestly think that only applies to ear piercings. I got it really young and didn't rotate it at all. Cartilage had formed around them and now I have this permanent bump on each of my ears even after years of not wearing earrings.
It was generally the thinking and norm even in the body piercing industry until the 2000s. The theory was that if the jewelry wasn't rotated, the new tissue would connect to the jewelry. This comes from using jewelry with a less than great finish.
There is no reason to rotate the jewelry in any piercing if the jewelry has a high quality finish. It makes no difference if it is your lobes or your upper ear. Spinning jewelry will only prolong healing, increase healing time and lead to other issues.
There's a lot more retailers that will hire people with facial piercings then there used to be. However, it comes down to how they wish to have their business represented.
I work at a vape shop. It’s honestly normal to see people in Shop businesses (tattoo and piercing parlours, smoke shops, vape shops). Walmart now allows facial piercings. A job almost had an issue with my ears when they were 1/2 inch. But now I don’t have as many issues with jobs. Tattoos are more widely accepted at this point. But we are moving forward in the self expression area. Kids growing up now are more likely to have piercings and get more jobs. Piercings were a punk rock and straight edge thing when I was a kid (I’m almost 29). Nope everyone has them.
As someone with a vertical labret piercing and being obsesssed with moisturizing my lips (chapstick and whatnot) I would say lightly applying aquaphor around (not on or in piercing) helps a lot! I’ve had my piercing for over a year now, it was easy healing and I absolutely love it only downside is I can’t eat corn on the cob or some whole fruits
I really really want this piercing since 2 years now but I‘m in a relationship and no kissing for 8-12 weeks would be impossible for my girlfriend..:-(
I found that there are other ways of showing affection. It's only a short period of time and if I've learned anything over the years, a short period of abstinence always make the experience, when it's safe too, a lot more intense.
I wish I would’ve seen this before I got mine a couple days ago haha. I love the piercing and don’t have any regrets with it. The only thing I’ve noticed that really is inconvenient with early healing process and everything is trying to drink things without a straw, eating things without cutting it first and chapped lips.
@@heathercunningham2072 I'm not gonna lie to you, it hurt pretty bad. But it was only as it was happening, the healing itself was just sore. But I think it also depends on everyone's pain tolerance.
"No kissing for 8-12 weeks" you know, when you first said that, I thought there was no way, I could do that, but there are definitely other ways of showing affection. Plus, it's only 8-12 weeks out of a lifetime I get to spend with my partner, so it's not too bad.
i got my first tattoo and my vertical labret a day after each other, and let me just say the piercing hurt more than the tattoo and my septum. the needle going through had me questioning my decisions ahahah, but the healing has been so easy and even after two days im eating most foods almost normaly, just in small bites and still drinking with straws to avoid getting any ofd liquids on the area:) otherwise i absolutely love love love it
I got mine done 2 months ago and your video was so helpful. I knew what I was getting into, chapped lips and all 😅. There aren’t that many informative videos about this piercing.
Hey thank you for making these videos as you have stopped me from getting piercings that wouldn’t suit my lifestyle and have save me from making a really big mistake twice. You are incredibly detailed and very informative I did want a daith and vertical labret but there were too many cons and I’ve always researched new piercings as I’m not an idiot and I have 24 piercings and usually I’d have to research for months as everyone would have sooo many different opinions but this time I watched your 2 videos and my decision was an instant NO so thank you soo much for making it easy for me and everyone else from making big mistakes ✌️😁
Body Piercing & Tattooing your not talking me out of getting pierced in the future just from bad decisions and now I’ve found some other piercings to get instead I’m thinking of getting my tragus and some cartilage piercing I was thinking that these would suit me better and once you’ve caught the piercing bug it’s hard to stop 😂
@@nessiiegirl3687 Yes piercings are like chips, you can't have just one. I'm glad I'm sturring you towards some piercings that will work better for you. I always try to do the same with my clients. I don't know how many times someone came in dead set on getting a piercing and ended up walking out with a completely different piercing after they were a little more informed. We are all about good decisions here.
I literally come to your channel before every piercing I get I'm so glad I found it. Your videos are short sweet and to the point which is just what I need. I'm getting my vertical labret done on Tuesday and I can't wait!!
HELP, I have a labret that is classic, placed perfect and been in for years i went a size even thicker then they already recommend and been in ever since, wish i remembered size 12 Gauge ( sound right? 14? still in but been so long i am however looking for the name of a particular labret piercing i thought existed? its the one that is curved whether 15 or quarter turn but no metal in ya mouth as in the entire metal bar is placed like classic labret then thru at a curve and out ya bottom lip barely showing when mouth closed? what is that? is it a type of VERTICAL LABRET or a LEGIT NAME? does this one I speak of exist or did I make it up in my head and does it depend on face as seems some people can almost get what I speak of with a straight thru but most would get a bar with some sort of turn, guess each our custom? This def is not for a cheap piercer but a very professional whom did many, need help with LEGIT NAME GUYS?... SUBBED!
2nd day with mine and literally couldn’t be happier. Getting it done wasn’t even that painful, way less than my septum honestly. Right after getting it done I had a bit of soreness but oddly enough I’ve had 0 swelling. As of rn, I can barely feel it and cleaning it is so easy. Honestly, didn’t expect this to go so well but I’m happy! It feels amazing
Getting this piercing was less painful than snakebites and a nose ring, and i have slight swelling but no soreness at all, its probably my favorite piercing besides my bridge
Ive never really had the worry of piercings get in the way of having a job or getting paid to do work. I love love love the vertical labret especially considering that its contact with teeth and gums is very minimal and that makes it admirable in my eyes. Ive been really dreaming about having this piercing for a while but I’d still want to have a consultation before committing to it. If it would actually fit my face nicely and if so, i would want to ensure that it is even otherwise i know that i would hate it. I also don’t see this piercing a lot despite the fact that people have been wearing masks,, even before then, it is a body mod that i see rarely but it quite possibly makes me want it more…
This video is so professional and the different angled shots, it’s fab! And you reply to every comment- just want to say well played and great advice! Underrated!
Got my vertical labret done about 2 days ago. I freaking love it! I got the top done slightly more forward so it doesn't get caught on my mouth. Other than a bit of swelling and a tiny bit of after pain I barely notice its there. Hurt like a mother to get it done and I even had numbing cream on haha. I would recommend not talking too much for the first couple of days because it makes the swelling worse.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Yes, the less movement, the less swelling and discomfort. I have yet had anyone say that the numbing cream helps. In way I often wonder if it in fact makes it more painful.
Yes, I know all of the original members, booked them when I was promoting shows in the 90s, and worked with Shawn when he owned Safari Nite Club. More importantly, Paul was one of my closest friends and Joey and him played guitar in my punk band The Have Nots. Oh and I have pierced most of them and a lot of them have been tattooed at Skin Kitchen.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing omg I thought I had recognized you somewhere or heard your voice somewhere. 🤔 I have definitely heard of The Have Nots! That’s badass man!!
if youre thinking of getting this, heres something nobody warned me about: waking up in the morning kinda sucks. the top of it kinda sticks to your lip if you have dry lips. its only a minor inconvenience, and only lasts for the first week or so in my experience. but it is kinda uncomfortable. obviously don't just pull it off. its super easy to just let the cleaning process give your lips enough moisture for it to naturally come away.
I got mine on Sunday and I love it. My piercer over compensated with the barbell length and even said so. I'll love it even better once she changes it on Friday for a shorter one. I still had tons of room after the initial swelling and the swelling is over now already
I’m turning 15 in about a month and had mine done about 8 months ago. The healing process was the worst!!! I couldn’t eat or drink anything without it hurting really bad, couldn’t open my mouth wide enough to bite larger foods, and gunk caught in the ring a LOT. It’s my favorite piercing though, and healed super fast. Don’t regret getting it at all!
Thank you for sharing your experience. Like always tell clients, the piercing is going to be very frustrating but within a few days, it will get a lot easier and eventually it will get to the point where it feels stranger to have it out then out.
Just got this piercing and I have to say, it is actually so comfortable. Doesn’t have contact with the inside of my mouth and I have rarely experienced pain or soreness (except for the actual piercing process). There are actually moments where I forget it’s there lol thank you for all the information!
Congratulations and I'm happy to hear the healing is going smoothly. Piercings when they are right feel like they are a part of you. You only really notice them when the jewelry is out.
I’ve been really wanting this piercing for a long time, but I have kinda thin lips. Would it still be doable? I’ve never really seen anyone with thinner lips have it.
It all comes down to your anatomy. The jewelry size and placement will be determined by it. Find a skilled piercer and have them take a look. I will say that I have never turned away a client because they didn't have the anatomy for this piercing.
I just got mine done I don’t have full lips at all. The jewelry you get it pierced with is gunna look silly until you can change it to a smaller size 😂
It looks beautiful it suits my lips so so well the worst part was the clamps she mopped my chin and underestimated how thick my bottom lip is but it’s been healed for a bit now and I absolutely love it ♥️🖤♥️🖤
i just got my vertical labret piercing , the pain was like a 2 out of 10. it didn’t hurt like i thought it would, it’s an amazing piercing and i love it!! if you are looking into getting one, do it
Getting my vertical labret later this week, super informative video, I think you did a great job of explaining everything. This helps a lot, and thankfully I wanna be a body piercer so I won’t have an issue
i’ve wanted a vertical labret since middle school.. i’m 23😅 but now because everyone is required to wear masks all the time, i don’t have to worry about this affecting employment✨(‘:
I know I feel blessed every day I wake up and still can go to the studio and Pierce. Though that could quickly change. Stay safe and take care of yourself.
Thank you! This was so helpful. I’ve been thinking about getting this one. I’m a school therapist but I’m off summers and most of the month of December and January; I’m thinking of getting it done during my next time off. My hope is I’ll have enough healing time on my time off to take it out during the work day. I quickly got several piercings when my piercer got back in the shop from the quarantine, before they possibly go back to restrictions, so I’m waiting for my new piercings to heal before getting this one.
You find that this piercing closes much faster than other piercings. You may want to consider a retainer that will be less noticeable but keep the piercing open.
It will make your lips hella dry and blister for the first few weeks. Be prepared. My piercer recommended using olive oil/vitamin A oil on lips few times a day (instead of chapstick). Worked wonders, now I'm never getting back to chapstick. And the healing process went awesome 😎
Not everyone has this problem but it depends on your environment and your body. Thank you for the suggestions. I usually just suggest dealing with it and avoid any products especially petroleum based products.
Just wanted to say I absolutely love your channel and you are very good with replying to questions people have. I feel like that's pretty rare. You're freakin awesome and super informative. Love ya, dude.
I love mine! Go get it looked at and marked! You’ll know a little bit about what it’ll look like. I’ve had it for about 7 months and I had dental work done & had to change it a lil earlier than I wanted to, which isn’t recommended but I had no issues with it! It WILL grow up quick as he said in the video so definitely have your piercer change it cause it’ll cause you less trauma to the area & won’t hurt at all with a trained professional that knows what their doing, doing it. Heck, I just noticed your comment was made around the time I got mine so you may have it by now!
I got mine done a little over a week ago and I love it :D My lip did bruise though which sucked but it’s mostly gone away now. It didn’t really hurt that bad for me honestly. It felt like someone just pinched my lip really hard, it did continue to sting for a little while after but by the end of the day I didn’t even really notice it very much :)
Monnxca severino I would definitely recommend using a straw and doing drinking through it on the side! I tried drinking out of a cup and the top ball kept hitting the rim of the cup so until it healed a little more I mainly used straws! As for eating I pretty much ate the same you just have to be careful not to knock it on any silverware you might use or bite the ball when you go to take a bite out of something (like pizza for example) until the swelling goes down ❤️ I hope this helped a little!
I’ve had mine done for about a year now and i’ve always been able to take mine in and out with no problem because of school i’ve always had to have it out for long periods of times
Hope you see this, I just found your channel last year and I consult you before every peircing. So far you have helped me get my philtrum, septum and in 2 days I have an appointment for a vertical labret. Thank you so much for such informative videos and I hope to one day get a peircing from you.
Wow you are super thorough I love that. Since I have many piercings my body piercer didnt really go over much maybe he was just tired because it was late. But I love how super thorough you are. One issue I'm having (its day 2) is not smoking. My piercer DID warn me ahead of time but I am still having trouble quitting so I smoke a lot less. I will also be trying the patches. Thabk you for the informative video man!!
Quiting smoking is something I've personally been struggling with for years. Cutting back will help regardless. I'm glad you are finding the videos informative I wish i could be this detailed with my clients every time. Though I have to admit one of the reasons I do these videos is to suggest clients watch them.
Just got this two days ago painful but you can stand it… swelling and chapped lips are the worse!!!! But I love it and I’m a cutie ! I’m a teacher 👩🏽🏫 and they love my piercings so I’m safe ❤ great video ty
i got mine pierced roughly 2 and a half weeks ago. first few days i could really eat or drink well but now its perfectly fine it doesnt hurt at all i do clean it every day the only issue im having is my lip gets very chapped and the dead skin gets stuck on the ring and just makes it a bit uncomfortable, but other than that it is the easiest piercing ive had. less painful than my septum and even my 2nd and 3rd lobe piercings
I had this piercing done when I was 15 (mum was very relaxed and the piercer would literally pierce everyone as long as the parents signed for it) and I had an curved barbell. Well, it was already explained what happened. 😅 It wasn't long enough and the swelling got so bad that my lip was stuck between the balls. So I went to the shop on monday, to get longer jewellery. But it was closed until the next week for vacation reasons. I come from a small town, with only this particular studio, so I had no other option than to sit it out. But the swelling and pressure from the balls got so bad, that I actually got blue greenish spots around the piercing. Which my mum then identified as bruises. 💀 At this point my lower lip felt like it's going to explode. 😂 On day 5 my mum decided that I should take it out because it wasn't getting any better. So I took it out and missed it since then. 😅 That's my story.. and know, almost 10 years later, I feel ready to give it another try. But this time i'll definitely get it professionally done. I'm not saying the piercer wasn't professional because my jewellery wasn't long enough but everyone who has piercings in my hometown got it there and I saw A LOT of crooked septums, asymmetrical cheek piercings and nostrils done with a gun. I guess I didn't want to see the red flags. 😂
When sizing jewelry it is a guessing game on how much swelling there will be. It's too bad you could get larger jewelry and save the piercing. If you try again good luck and let us know how it turns out.
im a teacher but i haven't had to worry about what my piercings look like because my mask covers them all LOLLL i have my septum, two nose piercings one on both sides, and im getting my vertical labret tomorrow!!! i did have an eyebrow piercing in my interview and no one said anything and i got the job anyway :))))))
It really depends on your career and how conservative the area is. For example, if you are in a large metro area, no one will ever mention it or have a problem with your piercings. However, if you move to a small town with a population of 200 in the middle of the bible belt, you might have issues finding employment. The other factor is demand, if there is a shortage of employable people, dress codes seem to go out the window.
When I need to minimize my labret, I’ll use a clear flat back bar and put the flat side on my lip color then I put my lipstick on, it doesn’t hide it 100% but it hides it well Edit: THIS IS AFTER THE PIERCING HAS HEALED FULLY. AFTER!
Are you raking about glass or plastic? I would really be careful with plastic. Since most manufacturers refuse to disclose what is in fact in the chemical make up.
Thank you! I'm getting mine done this evening, after wanting to do it for about 4 years! Your video was really informational and helped me decide to actually go through with getting it!
I have this piercing and every time I take a hot shower and get some water on my lips when washing my face, I get a swollen circle around the top part of it. I’m guessing that’s a normal irritated reaction and I should obviously stop taking such hot showers? Because I don’t seem to have the same issue when eating hot temperature soup, just when taking super hot steamy showers. As a she devil woman, scorching hot showers are my life! But I will stop trying to melt my skin suit off for a while if I have to in order to make my beautiful piercing happy.😂 Thank you!✨
Think I’ve got lucky with mine! 3 years in and been able to keep it out for my 12 hour shifts many days in a row and never had any issues with it closing! Hands down my favourite piercing I have will never be without it! I do feel it had moved forward (closer to the front) since I’ve had it and the bar is now kinda silly long in the piercing one day I’ll get round to getting a shorter bar! The easiest piercing I’ve had to heal and just looks so rad!
Honestly I love watching your videos, very in depth and thorough! I love the fact that u mentioned not only changing your toothbrush, but also putting a cover on it ( poop particles are a real thing ) ! As someone who's had numerous piercings ( retired and ongoing ) , sub dermal implants , and play piercings ... whats something u feel is unique , discreet but also viable long term ? ( 41 now, so trying to keep it classy lol )
I'm glad you are finding the videos informative. It does amaze me that people don't realize how dirty even the cleanest bathroom is. I tend to be very conservative when it comes to piercing and it really depends heavily on your anatomy and what your body will tolerate. I love piercing groupings below the belt. Whether it be a set of double nipple piercings, a combination of navel piercings or a grouping of genital piercings. It trying to find that balance of working and enhancing the beauty of the body. For example I think the combination between a Christina and a vch or a HCH and triangle looks incredible. Or just a line of labia piercings. It all comes down to what you find beautiful.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing Oh great were on the same page ! Yeah so nips done , bellybutton had a double ( no longer have a bellybutton , lmao ) and out of all the piercings I've had or have , my genitals have yet to be done ... the triangle and Christina , would make a beautiful combo I would imagine !!! Tell u what , when the craziness of what is dies down , vaccines are more common place and our US/CAN boarder opens up again, I will definitely be making a trip down to see u personally:)
I would suggest talking to those you know that teach. Especially younger teachers that may have had to remove jewelry or know someone that has. It will leave a scar and on some people it is very noticeable. Also consider it will depend on how conservative the school or community the school is in are. Some more liberal communities may not have an issue with the piercing at all, while others would see, even having the scar, as being a negative influence on the students.
I teach and I have tattoos and facial piercings...I never had a problem 🤷🏾♀️😊💪🏾 Dont let anyone or anything outside of u dictate ur personal decisions 🤗
Wow, just discovered your channel, and its super helpful! Planning on getting my vertical labret next week and I wanted to make sure I know what I'm getting into.
I’m getting my done tomorrow, I am nervous about the needle because I know it’s going to hurt, but I’m more nervous about the swelling and how it’s placed, I have OCD and if it isn’t perfect I’ll probably take it out.
I got my vertical labret piercing done today and I’d say the pain score out of 10 is a 6/7 but my lip went numb streight after getting it done which is normal. I’ll probably try a clicker ring once it’s healed
No problem and thanks sweetheart I’m planning on waiting until next month with my piercer to size the bar down to something cute with crystal balls on and by then it will be around 8 weeks into healing
Hey thanks for the video! You're very helpful and I really enjoy the clean editing; helps me focus on the material. I go to a nice studio around the corner from me but it's always great to hear from someone else experienced.
Hello! I've heard that when your first get this piercing, you shouldn't get a ring because of the swelling. And that you can put in a bigger ring but, it looks goofy. Would you suggest putting in a curved bar first and then have your piercer switch it to a ring after the swelling? Thx:)
The ring will actually allow more room for swelling than a curved barbell. The barbell is a set length, once swelling exceeds that length, it impacts. Rings don't have that set length and are much more forgiving. However, the larger profile of rings can cause more movement and contact which could cause more swelling. Also if the ring is really large, when you close your mouth, it can cause the ring to tilt and twist. That can cause some migration. So basically there is no prefect choice when it comes to jewelry. The key is to use the jewelry that works best with your anatomy.
I got this piercing 3 months ago. I love it. I did have swelling for a few days. It wasn’t painful just uncomfortable the first week until I got use to it. The only thing I still find difficult still eating is biting into a hamburger cause of the pressure. It just catches you by surprise. But its not painful. But recently I moved to Nevada and the town I live in is a more “old school” town. I got a job as front desk. The lady that hired me said she didn’t have any issues with the piercing but the older crowd don’t adjust to easily to things like this. She said I would also probably get a lot of comments due to all my tattoos. So I bought a clear retainer bar bell. I am nervous about changing it out. Would you recommend me going to a shop out here and getting it changed for the first time by a professional? My biggest fear is not doing it correctly and it closing. I tried googling it to see if anyone had any videos on changing it for the first time and I can’t find anything. I do have a day to get it changed out or I have to permanently take it out and I really don’t want that to happen. Any insight to changing it would help me significantly
The first few times you change a freshly healed piercing, it's best to let a piercer change it. I think you will find that most of the clear retainers are just as noticeable as the normal jewelry. As far as eating, you should find it less of an issue the longer you have the piercing. Aldo downsizing the jewelry may reduce the discomfort.
I had this when I was 19, it was loads of fun and unique back then. Kissing was an absolute turn off though, my boyfriend would end up with the piercing inside his mouth all the time regardless of jewelry 😂
Thank you for sharing your experience and watching. For some people they find the jewelry interesting when kissing, others it's uncomfortable. It's one of those things you don't know until you have the piercing.
I’ve had mine for a month. It healed amazing, but I did try and change it yesterday and I’m pretty sure my bottom hole started closing slightly because I had to push and now I’m back to a little drainage (not bad drainage, the normal amount). So note to self I’ll wait for another couple months to change it. But other than that k love mine!
At a month, it is safe to say that it isn't healed. If you change the jewelry again yourself, I would suggest investing and a threaded guide pin. It makes the insertion much easier with less trauma. Plus you can keep something in the piercing the whole time. Just attach the pin to the old jewelry, push the old jewelry out, attach the new jewelry and insert.
See that is the thing, it is basically a standard lip piercing when you move off of center the piercing angle is adjusted to match the curvature of the lip.
I've had this piercing for almost a month and I love it. But its always getting stuck to my lip and crust builds around both balls so I'm constantly cleaning them. Is this normal?
If you thinking of getting a vertical labret make sure the piercer is experienced I have full lips an the lady i went to uses the same size bar on everyone, it impacted into my lip with the swelling an wasn't very nice having it swapped for longer jewellery 2 days later as we couldn't get the ball off 🤣. Its also annoying feeling the top ball touch my other lip but I got used to this don't notice now, ive had mine 6 months and I love it 😁
My biggest question I can’t seem to get an answer to is whether I can get my vertical labret done when I have lip fillers in (2mm). I’ve wanted it done for so long but also love my fillers.
I know it’s been a year but I hope you can answer this! I’m honestly just curious. I already have sorts big bottom lip but my top is not proportionate w it & I’d like to go Just a tad bit bigger on both top & bottom. Did you feel any pain or did they numb your lips? How did everything go for you? I’ve always wondered if you had to go full fledge or can just get the smallest bit done? Sorry to bother but I don’t know anyone with fillers.. that I know of! Haha
@@BodyPiercingTattooing it was definitely my MOST painful piercing. I’ve had my belly button done, my nipples done, my nose, my industrial done, and by far this was the most painful for me. But I’m in love with it. I was a bit indecisive on getting it at first but once she gave me the mirror to look at it I fell in love instantly
I have heard that often about this one. Even when compared to other lip and labret piercings. It is more about the nerve groupings. However when it's done righ it looks so good.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing it’s great I love it the healing process isn’t bad so far and at my school nobody has it so I feel unique and a lot of people tell me they love my piercings because I also have a septum
I have once again returned to this video for the nostalgia. I took my 2 year old one out and will be getting double ones today, not smoking is gonna be really hard but we'll get there
I had a normal labret for a few years but switched to a vertical labret to protect my gums and front teeth. My labret was pretty healed and never hurt unless I accidentally bit it. My vertical labret however ALWAYS hurt. During the healing period I followed the rules and even after 2 years of having it it would hurt without me bothering it (touching, licking, pressure, hot food etc). The piercing didn't swell, just always felt irritated. Sometimes I wonder if the piercer did a bad job with the placement and maybe hit a nerve or something since my original labret had no issue. I've since taken it out and the whole has healed pretty well. I miss it and sometimes wonder if I can get it repierced.
I'm late but i was having an issue with my two most recent Cartilage piercings. the previous two healed just fine the difference was the metal used. my body rejects stainless steel. titanium is ok, sterling silver even better. so i changed all my rings to rose gold and now it's fine. no more random swelling. I'm going to get a vertical labret and i ordered a rose gold and a gold barbell since i know those metals work for my body so i have less chance of rejection and unecessary swelling. hope that helps. sometimes it's not the piercing itself but the material used.
Body Piercing & Tattooing flat on my face as if I was sleeping on my back but upside down with on knee bent and to the side like Spider-Man crawling up a wall
I’m so glad I came across your video, I’ve been having mixed feelings on getting this piercing done bc I was kinda in the dark in the pros and cons other than knowing it knowing it wouldn’t affect the inside of my mouth.Thought it was a sign to not get it when the lady who was suppose to do it canceled on me twice but I Definitely have made my mind up and I will be getting as soon as possible ofc I’ll be finding someone else and hopefully they won’t cancel on me 😭❤️
I’ve wanted a lip piercing for a while and this was the only option I was interested in that I wouldn’t have to worry about quite as much with hurting my teeth/gums. However, my lips get dry very easily so I always put on chapstick after they’ve gotten wet or I put aquaphor on them when I’ve washed my face. I know you said chapstick is a bad idea, but would it be ok if I used neosporin and simply tried avoiding the place where my lip was actually pierced?
The issue with chapstick is how clean it is and the effect it may have on the piercing. I wouldn't suggest using any petroleum based. I don't think you will find it to be that much if an issue.
It shouldn't be an issue. The placement of the two piercings is different. If the piercing was health when you removed the jewelry it should be an issue. However, if you want the bottom hole to be the old piercing location, it would be a good idea to give it a few months to heal.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing thanks for the reply! Both yes and mostly no. it's a snug lip ring and I don't have any natural teeth. I use dentures when I must but don't keep the lower set in most of the time. A few times I've hit it but it seems to work alright with my situation if I'm careful 🙂
Why can’t I wear chapstick!? How many weeks do I have to wait to put some on!? If I’m being honest, I put chapstick on the sides of my my lip not near the piercing and also on the top
Because there are a number of ingredients in chapstick that will cause issues with the piercing. Also the chapstick itself can harbor microorganisms that could lead to an infection. Avoid the piercing are completely until the piercing is healed. Usually 8-12 weeks.
i want it but im genually so afraid, ive had the side of my nose done and the pain was easy but i get so nervous, ik it gonna be worth it but i cant get a accurate pain scale, if sumboidy could tell me compared to a nose how hurtfull it is id love that! tysm ur vidoes really help me as a 15 year old looking for new peircings
Thanks for the video! I am considering getting either a vertical labret or an inverted vertical labret. My main concern would be damaging my gums or enamel so I'm currently leaning more towards the regular verical labret since I don't know if I could get the inverted one positioned in a way that it wouldn't rest on gums/teeth since I have a bit of an overbite. I think it would either rest on my front teeth or slightly below them which makes me afraid I'd catch me teeth on the flat back. I will discuss it with my dentist and piercer either way but I'd hate to have to retire it because of damage to my teeth.

That's one way of looking at it. Also there are other signs of affection. I have to say that often a warm hug is better than a sloppy kiss.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing Much agreed 🤧
You don’t have to by that I didn’t and it healed up fine
I want to get this piercing watching this video with my boyfriend he was like “9-12 WEEKS” lmao
You were lucky or you immune system had to fight off an infection and you didn't even notice.
“there’s no way they won’t notice the piercing”

Yes but at some point you won't be wearing one.
Yes hopefully enough of us are vaccinated to end this thing.
Me: wears one anyway
Claire's has definitely created a widespread idea that you're supposed to rotate and twist new piercings. Along with a hundred other No-Nos.
Same as Walmart, and shady shops
Yes spinning, trauma and poor quality jewelry.
I think it’s lame even in 2020 some stores don’t still accept facial piercings doesn’t defy a person with facial piercings
There's a lot more retailers that will hire people with facial piercings then there used to be. However, it comes down to how they wish to have their business represented.
Well said
I work at a vape shop.
It is what it is. I have to take my nose piercing out when I am acting.
there's a few shops in my country where you cant have any visible tattoos or piercings. hella annoying
Never thought I’d get “the talk” on a piercing video 😅
Well, I would like everyone to continue to be healthy while enjoying themselves.
“Pets are germ magnets…”
**slowly pushes cat away from my face**
Lol. Luckily our immune system can fight most of them off. However you don't want that cat rubbing against an open wound.
Thank you for sharing your hint and your experience.
I really really want this piercing since 2 years now but I‘m in a relationship and no kissing for 8-12 weeks would be impossible for my girlfriend..:-(
I found that there are other ways of showing affection. It's only a short period of time and if I've learned anything over the years, a short period of abstinence always make the experience, when it's safe too, a lot more intense.
no bc I’m the same as you😭😭😭and I’ve been having that dilemma for at least a year and a half now😭
I used to have a tongue 😝 one and u couldn't kiss my girlfriend etheir. Though were not together anymore haha 😂 :/
y’all still together? and have you gotten it ?
Me thinking of getting a vertical labret because I can easily hide it now under my mask lol
Yes, however the contact with the mask can cause issues. Change them often and limit contact.
I wish I would’ve seen this before I got mine a couple days ago haha. I love the piercing and don’t have any regrets with it.
The only thing I’ve noticed that really is inconvenient with early healing process and everything is trying to drink things without a straw, eating things without cutting it first and chapped lips.
Luckily it is short lived. Just plow through it and in few weeks it will feel completely natural.
having my bottom lip chapped all the time is annoying me😩
Did it hurt
@@heathercunningham2072 I'm not gonna lie to you, it hurt pretty bad. But it was only as it was happening, the healing itself was just sore. But I think it also depends on everyone's pain tolerance.
@@kaceydryden8176 what did u use to clean/ take care of it?

Glad to help. I hope I'm not talking you out of every piercing.
I literally come to your channel before every piercing I get I'm so glad I found it. Your videos are short sweet and to the point which is just what I need. I'm getting my vertical labret done on Tuesday and I can't wait!!

This def is not for a cheap piercer but a very professional whom did many, need help with LEGIT NAME GUYS?... SUBBED!
I just spent like 3 hours watching a bunch of your piercing videos and you helped me decide on getting a vertical labret piercing! Thank you so much
You're welcome and I'm glad to help. Thank you for watching.
How's it doing now? Is it healed?
As soon as he said he was from Des Moines I was like “slipknot!”

Well thank you.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing omg I thought I had recognized you somewhere or heard your voice somewhere. 🤔 I have definitely heard of The Have Nots! That’s badass man!!
if youre thinking of getting this, heres something nobody warned me about:
waking up in the morning kinda sucks. the top of it kinda sticks to your lip if you have dry lips. its only a minor inconvenience, and only lasts for the first week or so in my experience. but it is kinda uncomfortable.
obviously don't just pull it off. its super easy to just let the cleaning process give your lips enough moisture for it to naturally come away.
I got mine on Sunday and I love it. My piercer over compensated with the barbell length and even said so. I'll love it even better once she changes it on Friday for a shorter one. I still had tons of room after the initial swelling and the swelling is over now already
Congratulations on your new piercing and thank you for sharing your experience.
i think i want to get the vertical labret piercing
Do you research, find a skilled piercer and plan ahead and you'll have a great outcome.
What age did you got it?
@@Bxee3 14
The healing process was probably bad because you got pierced with a ring! Rings are prone to be bad for swelling and moving around in the hole!
Thank you for sharing your experience and watching.
I sleep on my face, always have, but I'll suffer through on my sides to get a piercing I enjoy
You should be able to adapt.
Taking this one tomorrow, and I’m so nervous! Thank you so much for all the info!
Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
how was it?
I’ve been really wanting this piercing for a long time, but I have kinda thin lips. Would it still be doable? I’ve never really seen anyone with thinner lips have it.
It all comes down to your anatomy. The jewelry size and placement will be determined by it. Find a skilled piercer and have them take a look. I will say that I have never turned away a client because they didn't have the anatomy for this piercing.
Body Piercing & Tattooing thank you so much!!!

I got mine done 5 days ago and the chapped lip struggle is REAL
It should fade with time.
Im so tempted to get this piercing. i cant get many since i have a smaller face but this seems like an okay piercing to get and it looks so cool to me
A skilled piercer will know how to place the piercing and have the right jewelry to fit the shape and size of your face.
Always speak to your piercer if you’re unsure about how a piercing you want will fit your face :)
If you have to remove the jewelry for medical reasons, a glass retainer would be best.
I got mine done a little over a week ago and I love it :D
My lip did bruise though which sucked but it’s mostly gone away now. It didn’t really hurt that bad for me honestly. It felt like someone just pinched my lip really hard, it did continue to sting for a little while after but by the end of the day I didn’t even really notice it very much :)
Thank you for sharing your experience and congratulations on your new piercing.
Nice! How was eating and drinking water? Would love to get mine sometime soon hehe
Monnxca severino I would definitely recommend using a straw and doing drinking through it on the side! I tried drinking out of a cup and the top ball kept hitting the rim of the cup so until it healed a little more I mainly used straws!
As for eating I pretty much ate the same you just have to be careful not to knock it on any silverware you might use or bite the ball when you go to take a bite out of something (like pizza for example) until the swelling goes down ❤️
I hope this helped a little!
AWESOME JDHSUSH im def getting mine, debating between a vertical or inverted one haha but tx for the reply!! 🥺🥺
Thank you for your advice.

You are lucky it hasn't closed on you and understand that every time you leave the jewelry out there is a risk of closure.

Quiting smoking is something I've personally been struggling with for years. Cutting back will help regardless.
When I need to minimize my labret, I’ll use a clear flat back bar and put the flat side on my lip color then I put my lipstick on, it doesn’t hide it 100% but it hides it well
Edit: THIS IS AFTER THE PIERCING HAS HEALED FULLY. AFTER!
Are you raking about glass or plastic? I would really be careful with plastic. Since most manufacturers refuse to disclose what is in fact in the chemical make up.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing glass, always glass. I don’t trust the plastic stuff at all. Like you said, you never know what’s in them.

Congratulations on your new piercing and I'm happy to hear that you found the video helpful. Thank you for watching.
But I will stop trying to melt my skin suit off for a while if I have to in order to make my beautiful piercing happy.😂 Thank you!✨
Heat will increase swelling but over time this should stop.
Getting this done today :) super excited
How did it turn out?
Think I’ve got lucky with mine! 3 years in and been able to keep it out for my 12 hour shifts many days in a row and never had any issues with it closing! Hands down my favourite piercing I have will never be without it! I do feel it had moved forward (closer to the front) since I’ve had it and the bar is now kinda silly long in the piercing one day I’ll get round to getting a shorter bar! The easiest piercing I’ve had to heal and just looks so rad!
Thank you for watching and sharing your experience. Yeah you might want to get shorter bar. Lip piercings just tend to migrate.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing
Oh great were on the same page ! Yeah so nips done , bellybutton had a double ( no longer have a bellybutton , lmao ) and out of all the piercings I've had or have , my genitals have yet to be done ... the triangle and Christina , would make a beautiful combo I would imagine !!!

ive been wanting this piercing for a pretty long time but im scared it might affect my future because i want to become an elementry school teacher

Give it 6months before trying the ring. Thank you for sharing your experience and watching.
No problem and thanks sweetheart I’m planning on waiting until next month with my piercer to size the bar down to something cute with crystal balls on and by then it will be around 8 weeks into healing
I just got mine last night and today its bruised on the top part, is this normal?
It's not uncommon but not normal. If it doesn't subside, I would suggest seeing your piercer or doctor.
Hey thanks for the video! You're very helpful and I really enjoy the clean editing; helps me focus on the material. I go to a nice studio around the corner from me but it's always great to hear from someone else experienced.
You're welcome and thank you for feed back and I'm happy to hear that you found the video helpful and like the edits.
Very excited for mine, in dec for my bday.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
Thank you for making this video straight to the point and super informative! I’m planning on getting this piercing today :)
You are welcome and thank you for watching the video. Did you get it done? How was it?
@@BodyPiercingTattooing I got it done! It went great! Hardly any swelling and it wasn’t very painful :)
Aldo downsizing the jewelry may reduce the discomfort.
i just got this piercing done today and i love it
I had this when I was 19, it was loads of fun and unique back then. Kissing was an absolute turn off though, my boyfriend would end up with the piercing inside his mouth all the time regardless of jewelry 😂
Thank you for sharing your experience and watching. For some people they find the jewelry interesting when kissing, others it's uncomfortable. It's one of those things you don't know until you have the piercing.
i got a septum this year and dont sleep on my face but i did accidentally keep hitting myself in the face by accident 💀
Over time I've found that you do it less and less.
Just attach the pin to the old jewelry, push the old jewelry out, attach the new jewelry and insert.
is everything for the centered vertical labret the same for one that's more off to the side ? i can't find much information on it.
See that is the thing, it is basically a standard lip piercing when you move off of center the piercing angle is adjusted to match the curvature of the lip.
You could try searching the term "vertical labret piercing healing" and see if you get any results.
im getting mine done tomorrow im so excited!!
Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
He b like : 😐 after every sentence and I love it
I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed the video.
I've had this piercing for almost a month and I love it. But its always getting stuck to my lip and crust builds around both balls so I'm constantly cleaning them. Is this normal?
The discharge is normal and you shouldn't over clean it. Compresses or soaks with saline twice daily is enough.
Yes it can be. The only difference would be that the jewelry will need to fit your anatomy.
Haha
I got mine done three hours ago and I am now watching the vids on it lolol
Congratulations on your new piercing. How did it go?
@@BodyPiercingTattooing it was definitely my MOST painful piercing. I’ve had my belly button done, my nipples done, my nose, my industrial done, and by far this was the most painful for me. But I’m in love with it. I was a bit indecisive on getting it at first but once she gave me the mirror to look at it I fell in love instantly
I have heard that often about this one. Even when compared to other lip and labret piercings. It is more about the nerve groupings. However when it's done righ it looks so good.
Best video yet!
Thank you and I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I might get this today after school
Update I got it
Congratulations. How was it?
@@BodyPiercingTattooing it’s great I love it the healing process isn’t bad so far and at my school nobody has it so I feel unique and a lot of people tell me they love my piercings because I also have a septum
Congratulations on your new piercing and thank you for sharing your experience and watching.
It might be placement but it also might be that your body doesn't have a tolerance for the piercing.
I'm late but i was having an issue with my two most recent Cartilage piercings. the previous two healed just fine the difference was the metal used. my body rejects stainless steel. titanium is ok, sterling silver even better. so i changed all my rings to rose gold and now it's fine. no more random swelling. I'm going to get a vertical labret and i ordered a rose gold and a gold barbell since i know those metals work for my body so i have less chance of rejection and unecessary swelling. hope that helps. sometimes it's not the piercing itself but the material used.
thank you so much!! i’ve been wanting one for 2 years now, and i finally got it today!! didn’t even swell up but it’s weird to eat LOL
I sleep flat on my face and it doesn’t affect the vertical labret piercing at all
Alexis Whitehead bro why do you sleep like that
AllAboutAlice i have no clue it’s just the only way I’m able to sleep😂I’m not even kidding
Is it with your butt in the air? That's how my son slept when he was little. I have to say that you were lucky.
Body Piercing & Tattooing flat on my face as if I was sleeping on my back but upside down with on knee bent and to the side like Spider-Man crawling up a wall
This video was very helpful! I'm getting this piercing in three days. I'm really looking forwards to it but I'm also a bit nervous.
Good luck on your piercing, glad the video was helpful and let us know how it turns out.
I got the piercing a couple days ago and I love it! For me this was a really easy piercing, I would say the pain was about a 3 on a scale of 10.
Thanks for being so informative!
You are welcome and thank you for watching.
yay an iowian piercer im definitely gonna take notes
The thing with Iowa is that we tend to be extremely passionate about our interests.
I’m so glad I came across your video, I’ve been having mixed feelings on getting this piercing done bc I was kinda in the dark in the pros and cons other than knowing it knowing it wouldn’t affect the inside of my mouth.Thought it was a sign to not get it when the lady who was suppose to do it canceled on me twice but I Definitely have made my mind up and I will be getting as soon as possible ofc I’ll be finding someone else and hopefully they won’t cancel on me 😭❤️
Glad to help and good luck. Let us know how it turns out.
I got it about 2 years ago and it hurted like hell but I love it
Thank you for sharing your experience and watching.
Body Piercing & Tattooing ok, thank you for the advice
I currently have a normal labret in. Can I get a vertical labret just right after I took out my labret?
It shouldn't be an issue. The placement of the two piercings is different. If the piercing was health when you removed the jewelry it should be an issue.
However, if you want the bottom hole to be the old piercing location, it would be a good idea to give it a few months to heal.
I’ve faked the vertical look by getting a labret with a horseshoe ring. It’s just as pretty
Have you noticed more contact with teeth and gums?
Thank you so much for the response! If I have any questions further along, I’ll be sure to ask you, if that’s okay
@@musiclover8229 you're welcome and glad to help. Yes, if you have any other questions feel free to contact me.
I hope this isn’t a dumb question but like after how many days/weeks can I start eating 2x spicy noodles?
Your knowledge is very excellent
I'm glad you are finding the videos helpful and thank you for watching.
i want it but im genually so afraid, ive had the side of my nose done and the pain was easy but i get so nervous, ik it gonna be worth it but i cant get a accurate pain scale, if sumboidy could tell me compared to a nose how hurtfull it is id love that! tysm ur vidoes really help me as a 15 year old looking for new peircings
See it's hard to compare the two. It's really a difference sensation. Though most say it wasn't nearly as bad as they thought it would be.
I love your videos! You've got yourself a 👍 up and a new subbie! 🥰
A curved barbell or ring is a better option. It all comes down to you anatomy and if the piercing can be angle to avoid contact.
