@@BodyPiercingTattooing I saw the video j c Potts did on the subject. He said something about acrylic jewelry causing cancer. To be honest though, I'm not sure how to feel about him or his opinions.
I don’t know what u guys are doing to ur piercing to get dents in them. I’ve always used acrylic I just think it’s nicer on the teeth. Never had a problem and don’t have cancer xD. Even when I was bulimic, when I used metal the colour of pattern would come off. But acrylic always was durable for me.
I doubt that you have had the same ends for 20+ years. I have had the same titanium ends in since 97. With acrylic just the digestive juices in your month will begin to erode the surface cause pitting. Then you bite down on it and it shatters. . With the color the anodized layer on Titanium and niobium will wear off but unlinke acrylic it isn't potentially dangerous.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing I am curious to learn more. If people can wear dentures (dental acrylic) for decades upon decades in their mouth with digestive juices wreaking havoc on them, why don't they get pitting and shatter when someone bites into a hard piece of food? Of course the ball is smaller and the jaw is biting with pounds of pressure, so I can understand weakening of a tiny acrylic ball over time, but, how can a dental acrylic be potentially dangerous in the form of a 5-6mm ball, but not a giant chunk of it in the form of pearly white chompers? This question is also for those saying acrylic barbells can cause cancer. Right now, I wear titanium, but, I'd like to give acrylics a go. TIA
Here's one trick I found out works wonderfully for me. My tongue was first pierced 7 years ago, and I re-pierced it a couple of days ago, with a year or so gap since last taking it out. I find that most pieces of jewelry have one side that spins off rather easily in comparison to the other one. You want (and please, only do this with a fully healed piercing) to have that "loose"-ish side facing down, so that end of the barbell is under your tongue. There's less movement under there and the risk of the ball getting undone is decreased. Another good thing about this is that it might give you some time to react - the ball falls to the bottom of your mouth and you can take it out and put it in place, instead of it just falling into your throat. I hope this helps. Cheers!
I drank slushies mostly the first week but I could pretty much eat anything just had to be very careful and make sure you clean it right after you eat.
With tongue piercings usually once the swelling reduces and you downsize the jewelry, it's gets a lot easier. The adaption can take about a week and it can be really frustrating.
hello, i just wanted to thank you so much for all of your videos and how extremely thorough and educational they are. i am apprenticing to become a body piercer and i have used your channel as a resource to supplement my education. it’s always fun when learning something new from my mentor, and being able to surprise her with how much i already know, and you are solely responsible for that. i watch your videos with my spiral notebook and take notes and make flash cards even for the things you teach and it has absolutely helped me. thank you again for being a virtual mentor, lol.
I'm happy to help. Understand there were a lot of people that shared their knowledge with me when I was starting. I'm standing on some strong and noble shoulders and I'm passing the gift they gave me on to you. All I ask is if the tone cones in your career, you do the same.
oh absolutely. i really appreciate you making a point to talk about how much there always is to learn, even if you’re a seasoned piercer who’s been at it for a long time. that’s a rewarding attitude in many things, not just piercing. thank you again, davo.
I guess I was fortunate with my tongue piercing as I never experienced swelling. Got it as a teenager (31 now) and for whatever reason years ago, I took it out. Got a Daith piercing back in March and found a cute barbell for my tongue and the curiosity got the best of me. The barbell went right in. This video is very educational and much appreciated for anyone considering a tongue piercing.
@@nannawinther3080 my teeth nor gum line experienced any trauma from my jewelry. Everyone is different so I can only speak for myself. I guess I was fortunate
Hii!! I had my tongue piercing for about a week now and I can say it is my favourite one so far! I'm having such a lisp right now but I guess It'll be gone the next week (I hope so) The first few days (2-3) I ate just soft food, yogurt, ice creams and mashed potatoes, but for the next days I started to eat "normal" but washing my teeth after each food. What I can recommend so far is to let a professional piercer do it, because it's really important for your tongue and teeth! This video was super super educational for me and almost decisive for doing my piercing after a long time thinking of it! Thanks a lot!! ❤
My girlfriend can leave piercings out for long periods without them healing, she had her belly button out for years and it still went in, she had her tongue out for months and it was fine. I had my lip close overnight when it fell out one night. Also, first time my tongue piercing came lose I did have my mouth full, hardest part is explaining to your partner why you have suddenly stopped and put your hands in your mouth.
got mine 2 days ago. and when people tell me they want theirs i just tell them to eat their favorite food before because you’re going to miss it😭 i am craving everything i can’t eat right now
lol Bet you're eating it all now, aren't ya?? lol I had my tongue done 20 years ago and just got it redone 10 days ago and I'm just now able to comfortably eat all the stuff again. But man, those few days are rough!
That's kinda how I felt before I got my wisdom teeth out bahah. I'm getting my tongue pierced in 2 days and i have been researching and watching videos and everything.
I reaally want a tounge piercing as my 8th piercing for now. I am really curious about every new piercing so I informed myself before every one of them. Thank you so much for doing this kind of video. I’ve never seen it anywhere else
Thank you so much, I've been going through some videos to see if I really want a tongue piercing and this video really helped me make that final decision. I will be calling the tattoo parlor on Sunday and scheduling myself an appointment. Thank you again, this video was very informative and I appreciate it.
i've been watching tons of videos on this and this one was the best so far, just scheduled my appointment! should have a new piercing in exactly a week, woo! thank you for the informative vid
@@laylaking4387 getting the piercing done itself didn’t hurt at all it was just very weird and hard to move my tongue around, I remember not being able to stick my tongue out no matter how hard I tried for some reason until about 4 days which was when I had to grab my tongue and pull it out.. the healing was quite good for me, the swelling started going down after a few days but it was still swollen for a good few weeks and it wasnt that painful (it still was sometimes such as talking a lot or too fast) I found eating wasn’t that hard if you were careful although I did bite the ball a few times. My piercing is fine now and I’ve never swallowed any of the balls like a lot of people say they do, I can eat like anyone else and drink perfectly fine even with straws. I still whack it off my teeth by accident every now and again but everything was totally worth it and I would’ve regretted it if I didn’t get it done.
i'm so grateful to be the lucky few with not having my piercing close up. after 5 years, i'm wearing jewelry for my tongue again. three days back in, and i'm elated. i've missed it so much! i assumed i would've had to get it re-pierced.
Yes, you are one of the lucky ones. Nothing feels better than having that jewelry back in where it belongs. Thank you for sharing your experience and watching.
i’ve had mine for about 6 years , love it . I ate steak & mashed potatoes the next day . swelling was down in 3 days . the actually piercing taking place hurt the most . healing was very good for me . for anyone who wants it i would say do it . but get it done right .
I had to take mine out due to gum recession on a front bottom tooth after having it for 4 years. I've had mine out for 9 years and was curious if it was still open and surprisingly it was. I heard flat bottom tongue rings can stop the rubbing on the gum line.. Was going to give it a try.
Just came across your channel tonight and I’m hooked!! I’ve had my tongue pierced now for 18 months and I love it! I went to the piercer originally for my web to be done, however it wasn’t possible due to the size of mine (too small), so I asked about my tongue and he said it was perfect! I’m so glad I went through with it- I love it!!
Very excited to get my tounge pierced soon, your video was very helpful and you give me that exited feeling of when you walk into the piercing store and you know you gonna walk out with a new amazing piercing
I went to a tattoo salon and they said that my tongue couldn’t be pierced because of my vein position I was sooooo disappointed however , I eventually made some research and found out someone with the pretty similar vein position who managed to pierce their tongue, so I went to another piercer and she said that there’s no problem and my tongue can be pierced safely soooo here I am 1 week after my tongue piercing and I’m sooooo glad I got it pierced😙😙😙😙
How long do you have to keep the larger bar in until you can downsize it? I’m tempted to get one, but I really don’t want to have to deal with the bar sticking out
I want to get my tounge pierced but I was really scared thinking about it but now I'm not as scared as I was now that I watched this video thank you so much for explaining everything about tounge piercings
You are welcome and understand that you are not alone in your fear of getting a piercing. Everyone has a fear of getting pierced, it varies from person to person but we all have it. One of the empowering part of getting pierced is overcoming that fear.
Hi, I pierced my tongue one week ago now and surprise 2 days after the ball upper the barbell was inside my tongue. My piercer was closed on monday and received me on tuesdays exceptionally, because she didn'y work. So she succeeded to extract the ball by cuting with a scalpel and pushing the piercing up. She saves my tongue and my piercing ! Therefore, it was the second time that happened in her career. So, we ignore the reason why it happened !
I've only had one encounter with this and it wasn't a piercing that I did. The jewelry was far too small for the amount I'd swelling. Glad it all turn out in the end.
I love my tongue piercing so much. I actually got it spur of the moment unlike my other piercings because I thought it would look cute and be more hidden (plus the jewelry options are ADORABLE) The first few days were pretty annoying (because eating was pretty hard and I didn’t know how to swallow anything with the size of the bar) but honestly it was so worth it. As far as eating goes though, by day 2 or 3 I was able to eat normal food from the sides of my mouth and by the end of the week I was eating normally for the most part, so for those not wanting it because of the “soft food diet” you still probably could still get away with eating normal foods, depending on the pain/swell level, if you’re careful (but keep in mind that means cleaning after every meal doing cleansing soaks etc.) pain was pretty much nonexistent but I had a funny lisp for about a week tops. Other than that it is one of the most low maintenance piercings that I have in my opinion!
@@nannawinther3080 I feel that because the first couple of days were kind of rough for me until I just decided to eat what I wanted💀 There are times where I accidentally bite down on my piercing now but that’s because I can’t feel it in my mouth anymore and sometimes forget that it’s even there lol. Once the bar is smaller and has healed, everything with your mouth is normal again. Only thing I would say it that I have troubling blowing bubbles with my gum now, but that’s the only minor thing I noticed.
@@nannawinther3080 same person different account! i just randomly went back to this video. plastic 1000% in my opinion. i had metal for a while because i preferred the look of it, but i got too clumsy as it healed. being in my mouth for so long i often forgot it was there when eating and would accidentally chomp down on it without realizing. i still do that once in a while with plastic jewelry, but i feel like it causes less of an issue than metal would and i’m not scared of breaking my teeth. i also like how flexible the plastic bars are because i like playing around with my piercing when i’m bored lol
Omg... I'm so glad u mentioned what happens if u swallow it! I have crohns and the last thing I want would to get something that could deffinatly or possibly could emanate my GI tract...
tysm for this video! I'm considering getting a tongue piercing since I've always wanted one since I was very little. Right now I'm trying to learn as much as I can about the healing process and what to do/what not to do, so this video was very helpful!
Hi I recently got my tongue pierced, you're info was extremely informative. I was wondering what size barbell should I downsize to i.e. barbell length and gauge and ball size. Thxs
@@BodyPiercingTattooing great thank you! also as a novice piercer tongue piercings scare the crap out of me and refuse to do them due to the simple fact that it's high risk!
@@chae4276 Well, your master should have covered this in detail. When in doubt get a good caliper, and measure the piercing area with the tongue at it's thickest state. Then add a 1/8 to a 1/4 of an inch for the piercing. Drop down at least a 1/8 when downsizing.
The. Piercing bit was sharp scratch pressure then over with to be honest. Healing OMG my tongue swelled so fast it was unreal, i went onto doses of ibuprofen asap and dang i needed them. ALWAYS USE NON ALCOHOL MOUTH WASH trust . I'm just at day 8 and I drool, lisp and eating is still a bit of an issue ( but being an ice cream or chilled food loon I'm cool ) loved chilled baby semi solids. Deliberately had my piercing angled backwards to avoid any contact with my teeth and gums BUT AWAYS ASK questions before hand a good experienced piercer won't mind ❤
Im super nervous about getting my tounge pierced. Im getting mine done in two days, and im trying to know if it's going to hurt or not. I needed to know what i needed to do when i got it. This really helped, thank you. I just hope it doesn't hurt as bad, and i hope i can handle it. 🙏😓
you probably got it already but some places can numb your tongue before piercing! also going to a reputable piercer is the best option because they are often quicker and make the process go as smooth as possible!
@@llorarygritar i did get it 2 years ago but they didn't numb it. it wasn't bad at all. the worst thing about it was the healing process that kinda sucked lmfao.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing since I got the alcohol free I'm doing a whole lot better and no my piercer didn't tell I wish he did though I appreciate your advice very much
i’m getting my tongue pierced roughly 2 weeks from now!! so this video was very helpful, just a bit worried for how singing is going to be for a bit since i’m in a choir at my school
There is only really one reason. If you got a piercing, it became infected and went septic, in theory this could be transferred to the child. To have that happen you really would have to do a lot of wrong things. If you are healthy, it should be fine to get a rook piercing.
This has been the most helpful tongue piercing video thank you! I've been wanting one for such a long time but keep doubting if I should get one or not. I rarely talk and I do know sign language so that wouldn't be a problem, I eat a lot of spicy food but I can definitely cut back until it's healed, I don't smoke or drink and I have a good diet, but i'm just worried about dental problems. I'll keep thinking about it, I know my mom would be even more disappointed in me than she already is lol. Thank you for the video!!
How much of a risk is mouth damage and erosion outside of, like, biting down on the jewelry? How bad is that damage compared to normal mouth damage over a longer period of time? My teeth are kind of messed up already, and I’m not sure how much of a risk these things actually are compared to normal wear and tear.
Thank you for this tip series. It has really helped! Could you possibly do an eyebrow piercing pro con videos sometime? I'm debating getting one but I'd love to get an expert's opinion. 😁👍
I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying the series. Here's the one on Eyebrow piercing ruclips.net/video/0HmhqBJKG8U/видео.html. I've had mine since 1996. I've forgotten what I look like without one. Love it and plan on wearing it till they plant me.
Since having a tongue piercing can lead to dental problems, would you say that wearing acrylics would be safer than wearing metal all the time? (Taking into consideration that one changes the acrylic piercing regularly like you mentioned). I’ve been thinking about getting one, but the dental problems are a big down side, so I thought that would be a safer option to use on the regular, but I would love to read your input.
Acrylic comes with its own risks. Including long term exposure to a chemical based material that isn't certified as biocompatible. There is only a slight reduced risk when it comes to damage because it is also more durable than your teeth and gums. The best way to reduce risks is proper placement and correct jewelry.
Hello I love the content u put out :) very informative while also having a sense of humor. I wanted to ask if you’ve personally dealt with or seen a drastic change (or any change at all) with ur teeth due to the piercing? Like chipping or any of tht? Thank you :)
Slightly. I've had my tongue pierced since 95. I have had issues with some fillings that were done when I was a teenager failing. I know I did chip a tooth a few years ago but I'm unsure if the piercing has added to the fillings failing or not.
So, basically Act like you just got braces and can’t eat anything you want until you are comfortable. (Relives pain of not being able to eat anything for at least a week)
I'm getting a few piercings tomorrow including this one. I've been wanting it for a while so I finally decided. I'm not worried about the initial pierce or needle going through but the after care and healing. I'm getting it done in the early afternoon tomorrow and I will have work the next day in the afternoon. I work at a grocery store as a cashier and I don't know if the pain will be that bad that I won't be able to talk at all or what, that is what im most nervous about. I'm wondering if I should take the next day off or if I would still be able to go in or should I take that day off ? I do have to greet customers but also do you recommend anything in particular to reduce the swelling ? btw thank you for this video its been really informative and has helped me calm down and not be so anxious as I was before about it.
The biggest issue is reducing intake of foods, drinks and smoke. Also taking a day where you don't have to talk is a good idea. I usually suggest doing the piercing at the start of the weekend. Congratulations on your new piercing and thank you for sharing your experience.
I got mine pierced about a year ago, the piercer told me she got too close to a nerve. Half my face was red and on fire. Shooting pain to the back of my head and a bad migraine all just on my left side. Right side was fine though. She had me come back and took it out and told me to let it heal and to come back and get it re done but I’m kinda freaked out now 😬
Thank you so much for the informative video! I'm a guy and just got mine done yesterday and so far the healing process hasn't been too bad besides the eating issue. I can't wait to swap down to a smaller bar, but my Piercer said 8 weeks minimum before swapping out to a shorter bar. Since you suggested a shorter timeframe, do I just play it by ear and see how I'm doing after 2 weeks or so? (Also, I'm sorry this isn't related to tongue piercings, but how long should I wait to swap out a bar Tragus to a hoop tragus?)
Play it by ear. I'm not sure why they would wait 8 weeks. I would suggest waiting until your tragus piercing is well seasoned. Anywhere around 6-12 months.
Great and educational content! I saw you video about groupings and was wondering if you would recommend getting two tongue piercings at the same time or space them out (if my anatomy is right for it)?
It will make the healing a lot more complicated and it why I usually suggest doing one at a time. However there really isn't no reason why you couldn't do both.
It a condition that is more common than you think. Usually the tongue was too long and was surgical altered to allow the tongue to fit into the mouth. Usually the cut was done right in front of the tendon.
I use non-alcoholic listerine and haven't had any issues, and never used a salt wash for any of my other piercings just antibacterial soap (dial). Salt washes sound so extra to me lol. What do you think?
To be honest I didn't even know that listerine's floor cleaner had even came out with an alcohol free version. Saline not only will take some of the sting out but will speed up healing.
I used a non-alcoholic mouthwash and it worked better than a salt wash because the salt water made my breath smell terrible all the time. I just diluted the mouthwash a bit with water aswell so it wasn’t too much on the healing piercing.
@@XxsmoshysydxX I'm not sure how sea salt and water effected the smell of your breath. I generally suggest both. Salt rinses twice daily and biotene 2 to 3 times a daily.
Just got mine done. And I am actually going swimming in a bit so I'm happy to hear that I can still go. My piercer advised me to not get the water in my mouth however. I am so scared for the next few days because I have online classes and examinations that thankfully I dont have to do oral presentations for👍🥰 The original plan was to get my webbing but she tried and realized my webbing was too small. I sat there with blood pooling in my mouth and dripping down my chin until we eventually gave up and my piercer just did the standard tongue piercing. So I am currently in double pain. Yay me😭🤣
I'm sorry you went through that. They should have known that the piercing wouldn't work, just by looking. Now I would not suggest swimming for the first two weeks. After that, it should be fine.
Thank you for this video! Have an appt next week to get mine done. How would you suggest finding what size ring you should get to downsize to? Also where’s the best place to get a new ring?
Hi I know this video is two years old but I just discovered you because I’ve been searching the web quite recently because I suddenly felt an urge to get a tongue piercing. I always told myself I would never get a piercing because I was too afraid of the pain, I do have a couple tattoos and I took the pain like a champ. I do appreciate this video, it kinda of gave me the courage to go ahead and get it done but I am still quite nervous about the pain, any advice or anything about the pain level?
The piercing will not be as bad as you fear. But he hardest part is keeping your tongue out while it's being done. The aftermath with the swelling and adaption is not a great experience. I would suggest eating a full meal before going in. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
Number 3.... if you get a vibrating bar it will be a great addition. That’s what I am actually looking at doing with a tongue piercing. If I actually get one. My wife always almost gets there with only my two middle fingers and regular tongue, but honestly. What tongue can actually keep up with a vibrator??
There needs to be enough room for the jewelry and piercing. A skilled piercer can take a look and know if you have the correct anatomy to do the piercing safely.
If I may ask, how long have you had your tongue pierced? Has it caused any damage to your teeth or gums? I like the way tongue piercings look, but it seems like most people can only have one in for a few years before they start seeing damage and have to abandon the piercing. I would hate to go through the trouble of healing it and getting attached to it only to lose it after a few years...
I've had mine for 25 years. It's hard to say if the issues of my teeth have more to do with the fact that I haven't had dental insurance since 1993 or the jewelry or a combination of both.
I have a fissured tongue... I've always wanted a tongue piercing! Can I get it pierced? Any advice on if it would be any different. Have you ever pierced a fissured tongue?
Yes, I have. I noticed little or no difference in the healing but on one client it did cause me to adjust the placement slightly. Like all conditions it really depends on how severe it is.
I got mine done a week ago and it’s healing pretty well, the only thing I’m worried about is the nesting. I think it’s nesting to far into my tongue (more than half the ball) and I still have the long bar in. My tongue rests at the top of my mouth. Is there anything I can do to prevent it? Or will it go away as time goes by?
I thought you weren’t supposed to have any type of suction because it brings blood to the surface and it causes the piercing to swell more when you first get it
If the angle is closer on the bottom than the top, it will increase the risk of contact with lower teeth and gums. This is common in piercers piercing tongue that shouldn't be because of the tendon on the underside being too further forward. Instead of doing it at the angle it should be the slant it to miss the tendon. Yes it will limit it on the top but it will also force the jewelry against the bottom.
Highly recommend a tongue piercing!! Mine healed fantastic.. it’s mostly just common sense and avoid dairy, don’t eat hard food ight away, And make sure you go to a good piercer because the location is essential!
Thank you for sharing your experience. The no dairy thing is a myth. There is no reason to avoid dairy. In fact yogurt is helpful in fight thrush and cold items like ice cream are easy to eat and help with swelling.
I'm not sure where this idea started. My guess is it had something to do with thrush. Or it is the product of the anti-dairy movement and the influence of herbalist and natural healing methods.
Maybe before pasteurization. Yes, you should drink raw milk this isn't going to be an issue. So yes, if you are healing a tongue piercing, do drink raw milk. In fact, I wouldn't suggest drink raw milk or spoiled milk at all.
Some people notice a little bit of a numbing on the tip of the tongue shortly after the piercing is done but it usually goes away as soon as the swelling goes down. The piercing will not affect your taste buds.
Can you please do a video on tongue splitting please. I have been thinking of getting my tongue split but don't seem to find much information on RUclips.
It's one of the things we covered in our Podcast Q&A in the Kitchen - ruclips.net/video/i6OKTVPSh9U/видео.html Here's the thing, the reason why there isn't that much information is that it isn't as common as you think. From every account, I have come across it is one of the most painful procedures you will go through and the worst healing process. I really suggest that you watch this video before even considering it. ruclips.net/video/fBMEJFC00UM/видео.html
Love your videos just got my monroe piercing and was on RUclips doing research. Keep up the good work. Is bioplast a safe bet to reduce gum erosion or do u hv another brand I should research? TIA
I'm not a fan of plastic jewelry. Mainly because there are too many questions about what made of and what kind of effect long term exposure may have on your health. Bioplastic is a name brand and really doesn't mean anything they are willing to share what the material is actually made of.
You were luckier than most. It seemed like anything with bread or cheese was a huge struggle for me personally. Of course it didn't help that I pretty much lived on late night pizza from Big Tomato in Des Moines. Oh my wasted years in my twenties.
It didn't hurt at all. I think the anticipation is the worst part. I have both nostrils done, septum, nipples, belly, snakebites, and I will say 100% that the tongue piercing was the least painful. It hurt so little that I was trying to talk while he still had the needle in. Lol I think the most jarring part of the experience was how heavy the barbell felt in my mouth immediately afterwards, and drinking water with it in my mouth. I've only had it a day so far but no noticeable swelling and just a little bleeding. Eating is awkward but doable.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Is that barbell Titanium or steel? I think you are going to find the Titanium barbells light and once you adapt to the piercing and downsize, you won't notice it as much.
I’m on day 3 of my healing process after getting my venoms. I’ve just been drinking water and I haven’t been talking or eating yet. The swelling is bad but the pain isn’t awful. Randomly today it started bleeding out of nowhere and every now & then it bleeds again. It’s not light bleeding it’s actually quite a bit. It’s only the left side that bleeds, it’s like I feel the muscle tense a bit and then 💥 blood starts flowing. It doesn’t hurt and I asked my piercer and she said it’s probably the vein and it’ll be fine but I’m just a little concerned it won’t heal properly. I’ve had piercers mess up piercings and tell me it’ll be fine and it’s apart of the healing but I haven’t seen other people say theirs were bleeding a lot.
Sorry I was unable to reply sooner. Bleeding off and on for 3 - 5 days is not uncommon but it usually isn't even noticeable by the second or third day. If they did pierced too close to the vein, this will continue to happen. If it doesn't improve seek medical advice.
hi! thank you so much for this video, its helped me decide to get one soon! from watching other videos, ive noticed some people say its bad to eat dairy while your piercing heals because of the bacteria in dairy. i was planning on eating lots of yogurt and pudding but now im just a little anxious but i trust your input. i know you said to eat yogurt but is bacteria a big concern? i plan on rinsing my mouth out after every meal/snack but id still like to know what you think. thank you!!! ❤
The whole dairy causes infection is a myth. The only chance of this happening is if you ingest raw dairy or spoiled dairy. So yes, do no t ingest raw dairy. In fact, I wouldn't suggest doing it even if you didn't have a healing piercing in your mouth because it has been pasteurized and could contain a number of nasty bacteria. This is not new knowledge and I think it's safe to say that if you are buying a dairy product in a grocery store, it has gone through pasteurization. I'm not sure where you would find raw products but then again all those people were getting sick from raw water a while back, so who knows. There is not an increased amount of bacteria in dairy products when compared to other foods. There is a misunderstanding of what thrush is and what causes it. Somehow this misunderstanding has lead to this no dairy nonsense. Thrush is caused by a bacterial imbalance, that is usually caused from over rinsing and killing off of the bacterial colony in the GI track. Not by introducing yeast into your body through drink milk and alcohol or fermented products. One of the reasons this is even sillier is that the yeast contained in dairy products is completely dormant, dead or filter out. Even if there is a live culture it is actually going to add to the healthy colony in your GI track. It's why Greek yogurt is so good for you.
Ask about their experience, and how long they have been piercing. Also ask to see images and examples of their work. Ask lots of questions and if you know or meet anyone that has been pierced by them, ask them about their experience.
Average healing time is 2-4 weeks. However due to the fact that the piercing is fragile and the risk of trauma during deep mouth kissing and oral sex, I do not suggest doing either for a minimum of 8 weeks. Even after the piercing is healed there is an increased risk of contracting an std from oral sex and suggest using a latex barrier whenever you are with a new partner.
Been thinking about a tongue piercing for a while now and seeing a video of an actual piercer was really useful for clearing up some of my questions :D now I only need to wait till it’s safe again to get pierced due to the virus and then go and disappoint my parents Edit: I got my appointment in a week and am rewatching this to refreshed my knowledge :D
There us always risks with getting pierced. Research your piercer ask them about what steps they are taking to avoid spreading the virus. They should have policies in place.
I wouldn't advise it. The fact is that once you have adapted to having the jewelry while eating, it feels strange not to have the jewelry in. The problem with removing the jewelry all the time is the speed in which this piercing can close. The hole becomes smaller, and you force the jewelry back in. This can lead to damage and other issue including the piercing closing completely.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing oooooof!!! Okay thank you so much for the quick response! I’m just super concerned about my eating pattern. I’ve already bit my balls a few times and I’m terrified to crack my tooth on the ball😮💨 Prayerfully I adapt quickly because I’m starvingggg lol 😝
It's not one that I do based on my own personal tastes and the number of them I've had to remove when they suddenly swelled after 3 or 4 years or started to reject.
The best age would be when the teeth and anatomy is permanent. Which is different from person to person but most it's around 25. However, I have had younger clients that have been pierced at 15 or 16 and had no issues.
I want to get my tongue pierce but sometimes I get a sour tasting mouth but I'm wondering if i can still get it done ? Few years Ago i have had a case of acid reflux but I don't have that issue anymore but get a s so Sour taste in my mouth no and then
I'm sorry are you asking how young I would suggest getting a tongue piercing? I suggest waiting until the anatomy is some what permanent. Usually 16 or older.
Just got my tongue pierced yesterday and I’ve watched all of your tongue piercing videos. My piercer said no yoghurt but I’m taking your advice and continuing to have low fat yoghurt. My swelling isn’t too bad and I can talk ok but if I try talk too fast that’s when it sort of hurts. 1) As my swelling isn’t too bad so far, should I consider changing out the piercing in the next 4-5 days or should I wait the 10-14 days? 2) Is it bad to eat rice or oats yet if you can chew very slowly? Or should I just wait for a week or two? Thanks!
I usually suggest waiting at least 7 days before downsizing the jewelry. Do it too soon and it can cause the swelling to return. If it is comfortable to eat it, it maybe fine but I think you may find it more complicated for the first few days.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing Thank you very much! I waited for 10 days and just downsized as the past 2-3 days I had basically no swelling. The difference is absolutely amazing and I love it!!
I got mine done a few weeks ago and it was off to the left a little on top but was centered when I lifted up my tongue. I wanted it in the center so he said to take it out and let it heal and he'll redo it for free. Should I be worried about scar tissue or is center placement not recommended?
i got my tongue pierce 9 days ago. when can i start eating bread(like donuts) and spicy food? i love your videos, your videos are so much help when i get mi piercings done
I would love to see a video on the cons of using acrylic jewelry because people seem to have different opinions on them.
I'll sit down and try to outline one. The biggest thing is durability.
Cheers!
Greatly helpful, thank you!
Thanks for that tip😊
So it’s basically just eat soup for a month until it’s healed
Baby food is great, yogurt is treat, shakes, etc... Also usually after the first week you can start eating solid foods.
I drank slushies mostly the first week but I could pretty much eat anything just had to be very careful and make sure you clean it right after you eat.
You were lucky. Most people are very limited to what they can eat comfortably.

Thank you for sharing your experience and I'm glad to hear that you found the video informative.

Congratulations on your new tongue piercing and thank you for sharing your experience.
There are a few people out there that piercings don't close as quickly. However, they are in the minority.
I wish I had that luxury

Glad to help. Good luck on your new piercing and thank you for watching. Let us know how it turns out.
Why do some people think Tongue piercings are nasty/ unladylike?
Because they have stupid perception that it means they are more sexual. Only a couple generations ago the same was thought of women with pierced ears.
i've been watching tons of videos on this and this one was the best so far, just scheduled my appointment! should have a new piercing in exactly a week, woo! thank you for the informative vid

How is you’re tongue pericing doing now / how was the healing?
No one ever knew I had 2 tongue piercings until I played with them in front of them 😂.
I'm telling you playing with them is when most people notice them.
i'm so grateful to be the lucky few with not having my piercing close up. after 5 years, i'm wearing jewelry for my tongue again. three days back in, and i'm elated. i've missed it so much! i assumed i would've had to get it re-pierced.

i’ve had mine for about 6 years , love it . I ate steak & mashed potatoes the next day . swelling was down in 3 days . the actually piercing taking place hurt the most . healing was very good for me . for anyone who wants it i would say do it . but get it done right .

Has it damaged your teeth in any way? I really want mine done but I’m nervous
I had to take mine out due to gum recession on a front bottom tooth after having it for 4 years. I've had mine out for 9 years and was curious if it was still open and surprisingly it was. I heard flat bottom tongue rings can stop the rubbing on the gum line.. Was going to give it a try.
A labret end will limit contact to a degree but usually the type of damage you experienced is caused bu the angle of the piercing and limited space.
I have a question, Is it okay to get your tongue pierced on an angle in order to prevent mouth problems from happening?
I had mine for 6+ years and took it out for 2 weeks and it went back in without no pain or anything
You are one of the lucky ones. I've had clients that had it for a decade, took the jewelry out for a few hours and had issues getting it back in
Just came across your channel tonight and I’m hooked!! I’ve had my tongue pierced now for 18 months and I love it!
I went to the piercer originally for my web to be done, however it wasn’t possible due to the size of mine (too small), so I asked about my tongue and he said it was perfect! I’m so glad I went through with it- I love it!!

Respect to the first shop for not just going for it despite not being sure if they should. Ive seen the outcome of some piercers just doing it anyways
How long do you have to keep the larger bar in until you can downsize it? I’m tempted to get one, but I really don’t want to have to deal with the bar sticking out
I want my tongue pierced so bad but I’m so scared it will get infected 😭 that’s the only thing keeping me from getting it.
Infection in tongue piercings is extremely rare. It is a fast healing piercing there is. Meaning a smaller risk to infection.
If you brush your teeth like normal it won't get infected
i had my snake eyes done for 8 months and it would not heal ..
That is a sign that you should remove the jewelry.
If you follow proper aftercare the chance of infection is extremely low so go for it! They are super cute and I'm sure you will love it

Thank you for sharing your experience and congratulations on your new piercing.
So you can eat normally when it’s healed? I had to take mine out after a few days because I went mad from not being able to eat properly 😂
@@bellamari5819 okay thank you. Do you recommend using plastic jewelry in order to protect the teeth?
@@nannawinther3080 same person different account! i just randomly went back to this video. plastic 1000% in my opinion. i had metal for a while because i preferred the look of it, but i got too clumsy as it healed. being in my mouth for so long i often forgot it was there when eating and would accidentally chomp down on it without realizing. i still do that once in a while with plastic jewelry, but i feel like it causes less of an issue than metal would and i’m not scared of breaking my teeth. i also like how flexible the plastic bars are because i like playing around with my piercing when i’m bored lol
i have really large veins under my tongue, would that mean it’s more dangerous for me to get?
It can. It really depends on how much space there is between them.
Omg... I'm so glad u mentioned what happens if u swallow it! I have crohns and the last thing I want would to get something that could deffinatly or possibly could emanate my GI tract...

Hi I recently got my tongue pierced, you're info was extremely informative. I was wondering what size barbell should I downsize to i.e. barbell length and gauge and ball size. Thxs
what length of jewelry to you recommend for initial piercing and for healed. thank you!
It should be sized to your anatomy and if you are at a risk fir additional swelling. For example, if you smoke. Usually it's between 3/4 and an inch.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing you are awesome and thank you for taking time to answer and educate!

I'm happy to hear the video was helpful. How did the piercing go?
Thank you for sharing your experience and watching. Hopeful things will be back to normal soon. You should consider downsizing soon.

Can you get an ear piercing after having a baby/breastfeeding ? Really want to get my rook pierced thanks
There is only really one reason. If you got a piercing, it became infected and went septic, in theory this could be transferred to the child. To have that happen you really would have to do a lot of wrong things. If you are healthy, it should be fine to get a rook piercing.
@ ok thanks yes !

If the placement is correct and you wear properly sized jewelry, there wouldn't be additional risk as long as you didn't play with it non stop.

@@BodyPiercingTattooing Haven’t gotten it yet, i’ve been in bit of a situation. But once i’m out it just might be the first thing I get. 😋
@@BodyPiercingTattooing thank you so much for answering my question!
You're welcome and thank you for watching.
Is there any way to help negate the damage to your teeth? Can you wear a teeth guard or a plastic version at night or something?
The proper anatomy, placement and correct jewelry size will help reduce teeth erosion, gum erosion and softening of the bones in the mouth.
For the most part. Just mainly that first few weeks.
So I got them and they didn’t hurt and I have barely any swelling on my tongue, my nipples hurt the most though. Worst pain ever
The biggest issue is reducing intake of foods, drinks and smoke. Also taking a day where you don't have to talk is a good idea. I usually suggest doing the piercing at the start of the weekend.
Congratulations on your new piercing and thank you for sharing your experience.
Do you know why a blood clot would just randomly form around your top ball??
If it's a blood clot, you should see your doctor. If it's a bump or looks like a blister, you need to see your piercer.
I got mine pierced about a year ago, the piercer told me she got too close to a nerve. Half my face was red and on fire. Shooting pain to the back of my head and a bad migraine all just on my left side. Right side was fine though. She had me come back and took it out and told me to let it heal and to come back and get it re done but I’m kinda freaked out now 😬
It sounds like you had a reaction to the jewelry or some unrelated medical issue. What your describing is not a reaction to nerve damage.
Question about the listerene. Even if it’s the alcohol free one? That’s what my piercer suggested..
I really suggest biotene. Listerene tends to be more harsh and increases the risk of thrush.
I really want to get one but I’m tounge tied would there even be a chance I could get it done ??
Chances are that you won't be able to get the piercing. Without seeing you first hand its hard to say.
Tongue tied 😂
It a condition that is more common than you think. Usually the tongue was too long and was surgical altered to allow the tongue to fit into the mouth. Usually the cut was done right in front of the tendon.
Thank you so much I been watching a lot of videos before getting this piercing so I can know what I’m getting in to thank you 🙏!
You're welcome and I'm happy to hear that you found the video helpful and informative.
How serious can your teeth and gums be affected? Is it really common? Is there anyway to lessen the damage??
Yes, there are risks. You can reduce the risks with the proper placement and correct jewelry.
Body Piercing & Tattooing what type of jewelry? I know you said shorter but is there anyway to get a flat bottom piece or something?
It needs to be a straight barbell. If there isn't a lot of space on the bottom a labret disc can be worn
Just got mine done. And I am actually going swimming in a bit so I'm happy to hear that I can still go. My piercer advised me to not get the water in my mouth however. I am so scared for the next few days because I have online classes and examinations that thankfully I dont have to do oral presentations for👍🥰
The original plan was to get my webbing but she tried and realized my webbing was too small.
Oh my goodness, that’s horrific
going to get mine today wish you could do it!
Thank you for this video! Have an appt next week to get mine done. How would you suggest finding what size ring you should get to downsize to? Also where’s the best place to get a new ring?
When going to a shorter barbell, it's best to let your piercer size the jewelry and change it.
I think you are going to be disappointed. The vibrating tongue barbells are usually very poorly made, aren't that powerful and don't last that long.
The skin under my tongue is relatively close to the tip of my tongue, would that be an issue for getting a tongue piercing?
There needs to be enough room for the jewelry and piercing. A skilled piercer can take a look and know if you have the correct anatomy to do the piercing safely.
Is it true you have to move it around during the healing process? Or is it ok to just leave it alone and not move it all please let me know thank you😁
Do not move the jewelry. There is no benefit to moving the jewelry and in fact it will increase the risk for issues.
Ok thank you so much
If I may ask, how long have you had your tongue pierced? Has it caused any damage to your teeth or gums? I like the way tongue piercings look, but it seems like most people can only have one in for a few years before they start seeing damage and have to abandon the piercing. I would hate to go through the trouble of healing it and getting attached to it only to lose it after a few years...
I've had mine for 25 years. It's hard to say if the issues of my teeth have more to do with the fact that I haven't had dental insurance since 1993 or the jewelry or a combination of both.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing thanks for the reply! That’s a long time!
You're welcome but understand it all comes down to placement and properly sized jewelry.
Reducing the length may help but the nesting tends to be one of those thing that doesn't go away.
I thought you weren’t supposed to have any type of suction because it brings blood to the surface and it causes the piercing to swell more when you first get it
I forgot to explain anything you can drink through a straw but don't drink through a straw.
This video helps me decide to get my tongue pierced. I can't wait now!!!! Thanks 😊😊😊😊
I'm happy to hear that you found the video helpful and good luck with your piercing. Let us know how it turns out.
I heard getting it on an angle can prevent it from hitting teeth less is that true?
Body Piercing & Tattooing good to know! I always thought it made sense
I'm not sure where this idea started. My guess is it had something to do with thrush. Or it is the product of the anti-dairy movement and the influence of herbalist and natural healing methods.
I've heard the active bacteria in dairy could cause infection since it's an open wound.
Maybe before pasteurization. Yes, you should drink raw milk this isn't going to be an issue. So yes, if you are healing a tongue piercing, do drink raw milk. In fact, I wouldn't suggest drink raw milk or spoiled milk at all.
Is it okay to vape? If not then can you please tell me what weak can I start vaping again?
Week*
Vape will increase and prolong swelling just like tobacco will. Cut back or stop until the swelling is done.
Can u loose ability of taste or something like this after a tongue piercing?? Im just scared that i wont be able to enjoy sweets as much anymore haha
It's one of the things we covered in our Podcast Q&A in the Kitchen - ruclips.net/video/i6OKTVPSh9U/видео.html
Here's the thing, the reason why there isn't that much information is that it isn't as common as you think.
I was able to eat everything I normally eat just avoided super hot and spicy stuff and did mouth washed after meals
You were luckier than most. It seemed like anything with bread or cheese was a huge struggle for me personally. Of course it didn't help that I pretty much lived on late night pizza from Big Tomato in Des Moines. Oh my wasted years in my twenties.
@ haha true and your gage looks bigger than my 14g was
Currently at 2g. I don't plan on going any bigger but I said that at 8g, 6g, and 4g,
It didn't hurt at all. I think the anticipation is the worst part.
I have both nostrils done, septum, nipples, belly, snakebites, and I will say 100% that the tongue piercing was the least painful. It hurt so little that I was trying to talk while he still had the needle in. Lol
I think the most jarring part of the experience was how heavy the barbell felt in my mouth immediately afterwards, and drinking water with it in my mouth.
Bleeding off and on for 3
- 5 days is not uncommon but it usually isn't even noticeable by the second or third day.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing thank you so so so much!!!! you are the best!!
You're welcome and thank you for watching.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing you're a king!!
Thank you.
how do you know if a piercer is skilled?
Ask about their experience, and how long they have been piercing. Also ask to see images and examples of their work. Ask lots of questions and if you know or meet anyone that has been pierced by them, ask them about their experience.
I love his humor
Thank you and I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
didnt really hear ur words at 14:43 , how many weeks until u can ?
Average healing time is 2-4 weeks. However due to the fact that the piercing is fragile and the risk of trauma during deep mouth kissing and oral sex, I do not suggest doing either for a minimum of 8 weeks. Even after the piercing is healed there is an increased risk of contracting an std from oral sex and suggest using a latex barrier whenever you are with a new partner.
Body Piercing & Tattooing thank u so much :) !
You are welcome and thank you for watching.
Been thinking about a tongue piercing for a while now and seeing a video of an actual piercer was really useful for clearing up some of my questions :D now I only need to wait till it’s safe again to get pierced due to the virus and then go and disappoint my parents
Edit: I got my appointment in a week and am rewatching this to refreshed my knowledge :D
There us always risks with getting pierced. Research your piercer ask them about what steps they are taking to avoid spreading the virus. They should have policies in place.
Question.. once my piercing is healed can I take it out temporarily while I eat so it’s more comfortable for me? Will it have a risk of closing?
Would love to hear your thoughts on tongue frenulum or tongue web piercings.
It's not one that I do based on my own personal tastes and the number of them I've had to remove when they suddenly swelled after 3 or 4 years or started to reject.
Body Piercing & Tattooing ☹️ I was thinking of getting one for my birthday, I like piercings I can hide from my family.
I have a web piercing never had a problem 5 years now
One of lucky ones.
👀So exactly what age would recommend being to be able to get this piercing cause i’ve seen women at the age of 15 have one so Im just wondering?
The best age would be when the teeth and anatomy is permanent. Which is different from person to person but most it's around 25. However, I have had younger clients that have been pierced at 15 or 16 and had no issues.
“Women”.... you mean little girls??
I want to get my tongue pierce but sometimes I get a sour tasting mouth but I'm wondering if i can still get it done ? Few years Ago i have had a case of acid reflux but I don't have that issue anymore but get a s so
Sour taste in my mouth no and then
It shouldn't cause an issue. As long as you are not having issues at the time of the piercing.
Body Piercing & Tattooing thank you very much and please to keep safe
You are welcome and I'm doing my best. Also please stay safe.
Can you put the age range please ! Thank you so much the video really helped btw
I'm sorry are you asking how young I would suggest getting a tongue piercing? I suggest waiting until the anatomy is some what permanent. Usually 16 or older.
Body Piercing & Tattooing THANK YOU !!!!!
You're welcome
It is amazing how much an 1/8 of an inch or so can make in a tongue piercing. Glad to hear things are going well.
I got mine done a few weeks ago and it was off to the left a little on top but was centered when I lifted up my tongue. I wanted it in the center so he said to take it out and let it heal and he'll redo it for free. Should I be worried about scar tissue or is center placement not recommended?
It shouldn't be too bad because it has really seasoned.
i got my tongue pierce 9 days ago. when can i start eating bread(like donuts) and spicy food? i love your videos, your videos are so much help when i get mi piercings done
If the swelling is over it should be fine. Just take it slow. Glad you are enjoying the videos and thank you for watching.
