I just got my septum pierced today-craziest sensation I’ve ever felt. I actually felt the needle moving through each layer of the nose 😂😅 either way I LOVE it and am so grateful to have your advise on how to best heal it. Thank you!
i got my septum pierced abt a decade ago, i remember that was back when it was still normal to be given a sea salt soak, it healed very well and i still wear it to this day, i absolutely love it, in fact i'm thinking about stretching it up a size or two
I've got 2 with 1 stacked behind the other & I get so much positive feedback. A lot of piercers told me it couldn't be done & I'm very grateful to find someone who agreed to have a go.
I got mine a little over the year. I was so scared but when it was done I barely felt it apart from some soreness (less painful than any of my lobe piercings tbh). Easiest piercing to heal, almost effortlessly. Hid it from my parents for a few months before my little sister looked up, noticed it and snitched and I’ve been made fun of for looking “bullish” loads but no regrets, I love it. Plus jobs won’t notice it as much under the mask and even so it’s super easy to hide. I got so used to the smell though that now I’ll even move it around to sniff it HAAHAH, but yep! One problem I had was the balls of the barbell randomly dropping here and there but it could always be fixed, considering changing it out though it’ll probably be hard to find the hole while changing so I might go to a piercer to do it. Just thought I’d share my experience to anyone considering getting it, do it!!
My roommate and I have both wanted this piercing for a long time and we’re both finally going to go get it done tomorrow since mask restrictions are slowly lifting! I’m super excited and nervous! Thanks for all of the information!
@@BodyPiercingTattooing It went well for both of us! My friend said his was easier than his nostril piercing, but I definitely thought it was more painful! It’s a strange sensation to get used to, but I love how it looks! Its one of my favorite piercings so far!

I'm 53 and got this piercing and love it. I wish I got it sooner. The only thing I'd add is in my case in the few days after my nose would run and eyes water slightly if it was wiggled, lol. Great vids btw, very informative. 🙂👍
I'm 53 too!!! I'm guessing that your nose has some sensitivity. It's reacting the same way it might if you pull a nose hair. Over time it should fade. Thank you and I'm glad you are finding the videos informative and thank you for watching.
I had mine done last summer. I work in a liberal type food service environment in the Okoboji area. It’s literally been the easiest piercing I’ve ever gotten. The one that did my piercing was new but I knew her. She was very thorough with everything. But like a week after I got it some guy in drive looked up at me and said “you’re the most attractive woman I’ve seen with a bullring.” Ah.... thank you? 😂
Yeah it's kind of a mixed compliment. Then you have to consider that you are in the middle of a tourist area that attracts mostly conservative people and farmers. Chance are you were the first person they saw with a Septum piercing outside of the internet. By the way greetings from a fellow Iowan. My father was from Estherville and my parents met in Okoboji.
I have been waiting to get one. I literally think about it every day now. The reason why I haven't gotten it is because my nose is almost always runny. I get scared by the thought of having it when I have a runny nose. Another reason is that my mom would probably get mad if I tell her I want one. I am waiting until my birthday now. Anyways thank you for the information!!
Usually a runny nose won't affect the healing. As far as Mon goes, the septum is the only facial piercing that is easy to hide. However, if you are a minor, that's a completely different battle.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing haha yeah i know it’s fine :D i’ve just heard it hurts more through cartilage and as someone with a low pain tolerance i was like *oh no* but it was totally fine !!
Thanks for the video; I definitely want to get a septum piercing; facial piercing I can hide; (and no one looks up to my nose cause I'm short) sign me up. Question : Had mine done 3 days ago, I was so happy because I felt nothing . The next day it looked slightly crooked. Meaning in one nostril it looks inward from tip of nose the other side a bit higher and closer to the tip of the nose. It’s slight but I notice it . I’m thinking will it be more noticeable with certain jewellery? I don’t have a deviated septum. I’m a bit sad about it, because it didn’t hurt 1-2 out of 10 for pain. I don’t wish to criticise the piercer , they’re reputable. I can’t see any discharge, had bit of blood the first day , nothing now. Not sure if it’s swelling I can’t see any Swelling . The ring moves freely, a bit too much (10mm I was told mine was very high up , but my nose isn’t exactly large either ) I’m waiting to see my piercer again next week. But to be honest looks like they won’t help. Quote “this is the nature of this piercing”. So I’m hoping they tell me the hole is aligned on both sides . If not should I have it redone with the same piercing studio or a different one? How long should I wait before redoing this one 3 months? This is what I was advised for my nostril ? Thank you!
First off every body's septum is deviated to some degree. Swelling this soon in the healing is normal and it will seem to be crooked. The good new is about 6 weeks into the healing applying light pressure will usually move it rightbaxk into alignment.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing that's actually exactly what I did for the first week, also kept it flipped up for the week so I wouldn't hit it so much. It's healing well now with daily salt water soaks!

Hi Davo, thanks for your informative videos! They've been incredibly helpful as I prepare for my septum piercing. I've noticed in some cases the ball ends sit tightly against the nostrils, which might not suit everyone. To avoid this, should I discuss a looser fit with my piercer to accommodate swelling and ensure a more comfortable look, or is the initial jewelry size typically standard with adjustments to bar length considered only after healing? 😊 Cheers!
How deep into the nose the piercing is done depends on where your sweet spot is. For something that hangs lower, larger jewelry would be the answer. Good luck and let us know how it turns.

Hi Davo ,Thank-you for all your responses. Just got septum pierced with a bcr ring. My top lip keeps knocking it, is that normal for that to happen, and does the septum get down sized, or is that size its stays.Whats the best way to blow your nose without catching it ...
Wish you could do a video on jewelry length. I have my septum done and every Circular barbell ( u shape ) piece of jewelry I order is super short and barely sticks out the nose. Any recommendations on longer jewelry.
There are standards that tend to be used for piercings but they must be adapted to match the person getting pierced. So it's kind of hard to do one on length because for example a nipple piercing could need anything from a 3/8 to 3/4 length depending on the width of the nipple. Most manufactures make 1/4, 5/16, 3/8. 7/16, and 1/2 16g Circular Barbells. The most common is going to be 3/8 and that might be where you are running into them being too short. Try for 1/2 and also there is a difference between circular barbells and horseshoe. The horseshoe shape is straight at the ends and may hang further out. Also consider that if the jewelry needs to be expanded to allow you to flip it up, this will make the balls not hang out so far.
Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. I figured out what was going on. the jewelry supplier website had a section to pick the diameter I missed, so everyone I ordered kept arriving 1/4 diameter. local shop set me up with a 3/8 titanium circular barbell and it is perfect. It isn't missing I have 6g glass eyelet from glasswear studios. I started stocking their jewelry again and I always order a test price for me. I'm going to be trying out a few other pieces in less noticeable areas soon. Though I'm digging the eyelet for now, I'm sure I'll go back to the ring eventually.
I just got my septum pierced today and I’m a bit confused on how to clean it. I know I’m supposed to use a saline solution but I’ve heard from some to use a qtip dipped in saline and to clean the puncture areas and move around the jewelry when cleaning. Others have told me to just use a saline spray directly on it and that is it. So am i supposed to move the piercing at all when I clean or does a spray work better? Also, is a soak necessary or does a spray work fine?
How can I tell if it’s to low or not in the right spot? I didn’t do any research before because it was kinda spur of the moment decision. It doesn’t lay flat and constantly moves upwards.
It should hang away from the face and be towards the front of the nose. If you pinch down on the inside of the nostril and you will feel a thin area between the two thicker cartilage pieces. That is the sweet spot and the piercing should be through it.
Some days I’m still wearing a mask for up to 8 hours at a time. Do you think in your opinion that would effect the healing process at all for a septum piercing? I’ll leave it another year until I get a lip one
Usually mucus doesn't cause an issues. When the piercing is healed, the discharge will stop, the piercing holes will grow inward, and the jewelry will loosen up and move easily.
Alright I'm thinking about this, but the cleaning process has me nervous. Also seen that it bleeds, just trying to figure out if it's a good idea or not. People say it hurts all the time, and other things. I had my lip done, eye brow, and ear when I was in high school. My eyebrow ring was torn out, and my lip ring healed within mins of taking it out to change it after 3 months. It literally wouldn't go back in after a few hrs of taking it out.
I got mine done today and I’m wondering if it’s ok that I keep moving my ring to be straight because it gets so crooked. Also my ring doesn’t stay straight down it flips up but doesn’t go in my nose if that makes sense. Any tips??
Leave it alone!!! The main reason it looks not straight is more than likely the swelling. Moving it will only add to the swelling and prolong it. Leave it be.
My septum is deviated, so my piercing is crooked a little bit. Yours is probably due to swelling though. Leave it alone, and keep cleaning it. The swelling will go down soon, and it will probably be fine. (Jan Griffiths).
I'm a soccer player and I'm worried about the fact that a ball in my face can cause huge damage. Am i correct or i can do this piercing without having problem during soccer matches?
Congratulations on your new piercing. I recommend 8 to 12 weeks before changing the jewelry. If you are unsure if it is healed you can visit your piercer and they should be able to tell you if your healed or if you need to wait longer.
I lost my septum piercing after around 5 months, the ball felt of and the piercer could not find the hole.... Waiting a year before I can get it again.
Hi! I just got my septum piercing done after years of contemplation. However, I notice that the piercing is more forward than it is hanging. Is this because the placement was bad or because the piercing is swollen?
Just got mine, they just handed me a after care spray, pierced it, and went about my day. He didn’t even give me a one two three just went for it lmfao. Wish there was more convo cuz I was mad nervous
It's impossible to say without seeing the piercing first hand. Your best option is to set up a consultation with your piercer and have them take a look. Allergies can be an issue if you are having to low your nose a lot. This is more about contact with the piercing while it is healing.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing I suffer from a runny nose due to my allergies and I have to blow my nose often. I set an appointment to see a piercer in December. Thanks for your prompt reply! I love your channel and your sense of humor as well as your vast vast knowledge about piercing. Too bad I don't live in Iowa. I would have liked to be pierced by you. :) Greetings from San Francisco, California!!
So I just did it! I went to a different guy who took one look at me and said "you have a sweet spot"... I built myself up for it to hurt and honestly I was so happy because it didn't! And now I'm buzzing
I just got my septum done yesterday. When she was done I looked at it in the mirror and noticed it seem a little crooked. The piercer said that it may seem crooked at first because of swelling. Is this true? Or did she just not want to admit that she might have pierced it crooked?
Often they will look a little off right afterwards and yes swelling can happen that quickly with some people. Also if the jewelry isn't position correctly it will seem off. Even if it is slightly crocked, the piercing can be trained to look more straight by applying light pressure and the finial weeks of healing.
I've wanted to get a septum piercing but I had a rhinoseptoplasty done. For breathing and cosmetic reasons. But my doctor made my nose much smaller than what im used to and I still struggle to breathe. I was wondering if this would be a problem to getting a septum piercing.
Hey! i work night shift with my mask on constantly , if its sore which you experience for a week or more, but id suggest getting a mask you can adjust the size or get a size bigger just to make it abit less tight on your nose or face.
Watching this video with my septum already pierced is just making me do the lip thing about a hundred times 😂 (if you have a septum piercing, you’ll know what I mean 🙈)
The piercing can be stretched. Usually after a year it shouldn't be an issue. It's not a bad idea to see your piercer and have them try a 14g taper pin. If it slides through easily, the jewelry should go in just as easily
First off, it is normal threading, Righty tighty, lefty loosey, Try cleaning your hands really well to get a better grip on the ball. Otherwise wearing latex gloves will give you a better grip. If worse comes to worse, have your piercer take it out.
Yes and it is a quick and easy set up. I've been having issues with the R6 hunting focus since the last update. I'm begin to think lighting might be the issue. And don't even get me started on the R losing me until I take off my glasses. So thank you for the advice.
Yes, just don't flip it up and down every day. Flip up at the beginning of the work week and then flip it down at the end of the week. You can heal it with it flipped up the whole time.
I was talking about misting the inside. It should help keep it from drying up. Also it can be a sign of over cleaning. Twice daily is the maximum you should be doing.
Not sure if it helps but when u got mine a year+ ago, I’d cup water w my hands while in the shower and blow my nose into it for a few seconds. I did it everyday for a month and for me my septum was never dry. Not sure if it applies with yours but thought I’d share!
I would love you to cover how the hell did WWE wrestler Albert wrestle with so many piercings I know wrestling is fake but still he had so many of them lol
I'm sorry but I'm not a wrestling fan. Though I have to say that would be an interesting interview. I don't think most professional athletes are asked serous questions about their body art. Like how it effects their training, competing, traveling, etc... I'll look into it.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing cool man! Even just looking at him i cannot imagine a nerf gun fight let alone wrestling with that many piercings. Ahaha I don't have any piercings but like your vids. Tats tho
At this time I suggest just misting the are with sterile saline spray like neilmed piercing aftercare or doing compresses with the wound wash version. However you can do a soak by filling up a small with saline and then submerging the tip of your nose in the cup. 5-10 minutes twice daily.
I have put my septum piercing back in about a week ago but had to use thinner jewellery for it. Had it out for about two years, pierced before removal for around 5 years. How do I go about putting in larger sized jewellery? Same approach as stretching or should I be able to put in larger jewellery since I was pierced and wore the larger jewellery (16G) before?
Basically, the same as you would stretch any other piercing. What until the jewelry loosens up and you should be able to just slide the next thickness in.
i got a septum piercing about 4 weeks ago and my piercer told me to use q tips to clean it and move the jewelry around a bit in the process🧍♂️ i‘m really confused because every piercer i’ve been to has told me different things about aftercare. apparently the moving around hasn’t caused any problems yet so idk if i should change my cleaning routine?
I wouldnt recommend you skip sizes, i know how tempting it is though. Its best to go along the sizes correctly so your ear can stretch as safely and comfortably as possible. But other than that, i think it would be fine for you to stretch now, just with the next size up instead of 2 sizes up
I wouldn't suggest skipping. In fact if you can find mm, it would be even better. The slower the stretch and the more time you wait between the stronger and healthier the piercing will be. If you push it too fast and you risk blow outs, tearing and piercings that look like hemorrhoids packed cat's butt holes.
Thanks for including the cultural info, I love to know about all of the history behind piercings :)

I'm going to be trying out a few other pieces in less noticeable areas soon. Though I'm digging the eyelet for now, I'm sure I'll go back to the ring eventually.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing Ah, couldn't tell if you switched out or if #3 was copping an attitude.
No attitude and I'm surprised how little the clear glass shows up. Have been wearing it for a while and haven't even lost an oring.
if you have your septum piercing flipped up for most of the healing process will it be crooked once healed and flipped back down?
Yes, you can heal the piercing with the jewelry flipped up.
Hi Davo, which jewellery would be easier to remove and put in a bcr or circular barbell. I have bcr but can't change it yet as it new piercing.
Hinged rings and clicker are usually the easiest.
It shouldn't as long as you change to a clean mask often.
Nobody talks about snot sneezing or how do you know it’s healed
Really all you need to do is spray it with sterile saline spray like neilmed piercing aftercare twice a day. Usually not painful and an easy heal.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing I worry about blood clotting etc, but if done by a professional it shouldn't be a problem right?
im getting mine pierced this next month and im pretty nervous abt it. hopefully it doesnt hurt super bad but either way imma look good sooooo......
If done correctly they can be one of the most painless piercings done. I Good luck and let us know how it turned out.
Do you have to call ahead for an appointment to have you do this?
It is always best to set up an appointment but we do accept walk ins when we can.
Btw to set up an appointment go to Axiompiercing.com/booking
I got mine done today and I’m wondering if it’s ok that I keep moving my ring to be straight because it gets so crooked. Also my ring doesn’t stay straight down it flips up but doesn’t go in my nose if that makes sense. Any tips??
Leave it alone!!! The main reason it looks not straight is more than likely the swelling. Moving it will only add to the swelling and prolong it. Leave it be.
It always goes back crooked 3 seconds after fixing. 😂
My septum is deviated, so my piercing is crooked a little bit. Yours is probably due to swelling though. Leave it alone, and keep cleaning it. The swelling will go down soon, and it will probably be fine. (Jan Griffiths).
Once it heals try a smaller ring. It tends to end the crocked look.
Yes and no one's nose is perfectly straight. So it's always more about looking straight than being straight.
I'm a soccer player and I'm worried about the fact that a ball in my face can cause huge damage. Am i correct or i can do this piercing without having problem during soccer matches?
Mine looked like it was crooked when it was pierced but it healed perfectly straight
It's not uncommon for the piercing to appear crooked during healing. Especially if there is a lot of swelling.
Love these videos
I'm also happy to hear that and thank you for watching.
im getting my septum pierced next week, how long does it take to heal before you can change the jewellery :)
Congratulations on your new piercing. I recommend 8 to 12 weeks before changing the jewelry. If you are unsure if it is healed you can visit your piercer and they should be able to tell you if your healed or if you need to wait longer.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing that’s excellent! Thankyou so much for your reply! I’m so excited ❤️
I lost my septum piercing after around 5 months, the ball felt of and the piercer could not find the hole.... Waiting a year before I can get it again.
That sucks. If it happens again flip up the jewelry until you can get the ball replaced.
I LOVE UR SHIRT
I usually do not do a count down but instead will have the client do a breathing exercise or distract them with a conversation.
I would like to think that I can have it done but between my year round allergies and my deviated septum I think it's not possible
Greetings from San Francisco, California!!
Bring it up during your consultation. You're welcome, good luck and let us know how it turns.
so should i spray it with saline solution up my nose?
Yes, it will be fine.
I’m obsessed with your videos, this is my new midnight hyperfixation 😂
I sneezed during the piercing 🥴 but it didn’t affect it much, I hope.
It shouldn't as long as the piercing was already done.
I can feel my sweet spot but got turned away from a shop, she said she didn't feel comfortable doing it so i wonder should i get a second opinion
If you have another experience piercer in your area, why not?
So I just did it! I went to a different guy who took one look at me and said "you have a sweet spot"... I built myself up for it to hurt and honestly I was so happy because it didn't! And now I'm buzzing
How long does it take till you can repirce it?
I have a question, will wearing a mask 8-12 hours a day affect or delay the healing process in any way?
The septum doesnt have contact with masks and as lon as there isn't pressure on it, there shouldn't be an issue.
Hey! i work night shift with my mask on constantly , if its sore which you experience for a week or more, but id suggest getting a mask you can adjust the size or get a size bigger just to make it abit less tight on your nose or face.
Watching this video with my septum already pierced is just making me do the lip thing about a hundred times 😂 (if you have a septum piercing, you’ll know what I mean 🙈)
Congratulations on your piercing. Thank you for watching
Facts lol I always have to flip it up to stop playing with it
Will a 14g clicker fit in a 16g piercing? Ive had 16g jewelry in a yr
The piercing can be stretched. Usually after a year it shouldn't be an issue. It's not a bad idea to see your piercer and have them try a 14g taper pin. If it slides through easily, the jewelry should go in just as easily
@@BodyPiercingTattooing ill just leave the 16g in then i suppose cos hes NOT chargin me an extra $20 to do it! 😑
What if it accidentally moves do I leave it crooked
How do you loosen one of the balls to the curved barbell? I think the piercer tightened it too much.
First off, it is normal threading, Righty tighty, lefty loosey, Try cleaning your hands really well to get a better grip on the ball. Otherwise wearing latex gloves will give you a better grip. If worse comes to worse, have your piercer take it out.
Hi Davo,What do you do if the ball falls off a horseshoe ring and you lose the ball on a 4 week old piercing and there's no piercing shops open .
Flip the jewelry up into the nose until you can get a replacement ball.
Can a piecer bend it for me? I can't flip it up and the ends are a little to big.
I found the industrial piercing healing time is a real bitch. Took me almost 18 months to fully heal. No blood on pillow.
They can take a really long time.
Can septum piercing be pierced with a 8mm or 0g needle?
It can but I don't your sweet spot is that big.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing how big is it possible to pierced with
@@amyhuang3615 it depends on your anatomy but commonly 10g isn't an issue. Also understand it is an easy piercing to stretch.
Nice shirt 🤓☕️
Thank you. Still one of all time favorite bands hands down.
Hey D you should check out Elgato key lights. I’m sure you’d love it if you’re doing face to face videos
I'll look into it. We have a full set up studio but I prefer to shoot at the desk.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing oh yeah I understand, I’m a content creator so I know there’s no better place to work than a personal desk
Yes and it is a quick and easy set up. I've been having issues with the R6 hunting focus since the last update. I'm begin to think lighting might be the issue. And don't even get me started on the R losing me until I take off my glasses. So thank you for the advice.
can i keep it flipped up during the healing process?
Yes, just don't flip it up and down every day. Flip up at the beginning of the work week and then flip it down at the end of the week. You can heal it with it flipped up the whole time.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing I tried and i think the ring is to wide to flip up.
I just got mine pierced 6 days ago and the inside of my nose is sooo dry
Not sure what would be causing that. However you may want to try spraying saline into your nostril.
I do Everyday!
@@kellychua84 thank you so much, I’ve been doing this!!

How long do I do the soak for?
At this time I suggest just misting the are with sterile saline spray like neilmed piercing aftercare or doing compresses with the wound wash version.
However you can do a soak by filling up a small with saline and then submerging the tip of your nose in the cup.
5-10 minutes twice daily.
Thank you so much for your help 😊

I have put my septum piercing back in about a week ago but had to use thinner jewellery for it. Had it out for about two years, pierced before removal for around 5 years. How do I go about putting in larger sized jewellery? Same approach as stretching or should I be able to put in larger jewellery since I was pierced and wore the larger jewellery (16G) before?
Basically, the same as you would stretch any other piercing. What until the jewelry loosens up and you should be able to just slide the next thickness in.
@@BodyPiercingTattooing Thank you so much for your response! That's really helpful. Now I just need to force myself to be patient with it

These days just wear a mask, haha
Hello my LGBTQ+ friends :)
i got a septum piercing about 4 weeks ago and my piercer told me to use q tips to clean it and move the jewelry around a bit in the process🧍♂️ i‘m really confused because every piercer i’ve been to has told me different things about aftercare.
apparently the moving around hasn’t caused any problems yet so idk if i should change my cleaning routine?
Piercing question: I had an 1/2 gauge in my ear for 6 weeks now would it be safe for me to go up to 5/8 and skip 9/16?
I wouldnt recommend you skip sizes, i know how tempting it is though. Its best to go along the sizes correctly so your ear can stretch as safely and comfortably as possible. But other than that, i think it would be fine for you to stretch now, just with the next size up instead of 2 sizes up
I wouldn't suggest skipping. In fact if you can find mm, it would be even better. The slower the stretch and the more time you wait between the stronger and healthier the piercing will be. If you push it too fast and you risk blow outs, tearing and piercings that look like hemorrhoids packed cat's butt holes.
