    I have been rocking the W3680 for a while now. it has tons of value. plays all the current games like a beast. has an unlocked multiplier. I have overclocked mine to 4.2Ghz on air. its just a beast with its 6 cores and 12 threads.

    Awesome vid man. My very first gaming Pc was a used hp z400 with an i7 920, 12 gigs of DDR3 and an HD 7770 that I picked up for $ 160 back in 2013. It actually did a great job of playing the latest titles back then but when the i7 couldn’t keep up any longer I slapped a used w3670 in the ol’ girl and it gave me HUGE performance gains and can still get down and boogey in the latest games to this day! I chose the w3670 because In 2016, when I bought it , the 3670 was Something like $100 cheaper than the 3680 or 3690 and I couldn’t overclocked with that hp mobo anyway. When paired with a GTX 1060 3gb Edition , it could max out just about anything out there. Great cpu for the money and once again , great content bro!

    The other unique thing about the W3680 and W3690 is that their multipliers are fully unlocked, in that they're not limited like their 'X' SKU counterparts (e.g. X5670).

    Congratulations on your new studio Brian! Personally I think the lighting and the setup should remain the same as your old place, please make that happen if possible. Another request that I would like to make, in all your forthcoming PC of the month builds do include clips where your disassemble the GPU and other parts(even delid) for cleaning and applying thermal paste, I simply love watching it. The Bottoms Up PC video is a good example. Best wishes to you!

    The processor I've been most impressed with lately is the Core i5 8250U. It's a Kaby Lake R mobile processor released late 2017, with four cores and hyperthreading. It gets 500cb+ in Cinebench R15 with a TDP of 15W, so you get beast performance with long battery life. You can find these in laptops that cost as low as AU$800.

    Hi tech yes city. I want to chime in with a bit of info.
    In 2012 I built a PC, 1155, asus p8b75m lx motherboard, penitum g680. recently, two months or so ago, I bought a e3 1240 for some 90 bucks, dropped that into my system and the thing flew.
    Having great experience with that CPU, I recently decided to buy a 1155 motherboard (h61m vg3 ), get another e3 1240, and dropped that into my brothers old case. He already had a GPU, so I just threw in a new PSU (his old one was a Dell proprieatary case), DDR3 RAM and the thing flies. One thing I would recommend for these CPUs, if you are upgrading from something like i3 or i5, the stock cooler won't be enough. For both mine and brothers PCs, I'm using Arctic Cooling Alpine series CPU coolers, and these things really rock. They are huge, but actually fit well into h61m vg3 (which is micro atx) and dead silent. On the stock cooler these CPUs go to 70 -80 degrees playing Path of Exile in no time, but with Alpine cooler don't go over 60.
    Considering that for the first upgrade I just had to get the CPU and a cooler, an upgrade that was under 100 bucks in total, is phenomenal. The other PC was a bit more dated, so I had to buy a new PSU and RAM, a used motherboard, along with the CPU but the upgrade was well worth it, and under 150 USD in total.
    Regarding e3 1220, considering it's a few digits below e3 1240, and has no hyperthreading, but for a bit more than half the price of e3 1240, is also such a steal. The x3470, I'm not sure, the price and cores make it tempting but the TDP turns me off for some reason. I had a PC built based on LTTs "150 USD gaming pc" and that system was loud as heck. Not to mention that most motherboards come from proprietary server systems. So I would think twice about getting x3470, the price is attractive but the higher clock and lower TDP of e3 1240 make it somewhat a better bargain - that is, considering I had seen a few for the low low price of 50 usd in one of my local online sellers. THAT, would be a steal, and even still, a new e3 1240 is 6 times what I paid for it.

  • @GuilleGhemi
    @GuilleGhemi 7 лет назад +6

    well, x5690 cost arround 110 on ebay... not the cheapest, but you got 6 cores /12 threads up to 3.73 ghz at stock, out of the box. And of course no mention you can actually overclock easily at 4.3 or even 4.4 ghz. or even higher in a decent x58 and aio.
    Nice content man.

    • @Jamzy
      @Jamzy 7 лет назад

      Guille Ghemi i think if you get a good cooler you might be able to get it to 5ghz as ive seen x5650s at around 4.3-4.5ghz

    • @TrueZtyleZ7
      @TrueZtyleZ7 7 лет назад

      With the mobo I had, I managed to get the X5650 to 4.4GHz, but only with turbo. And that was with 1.4v constant. I didn't gain any tangible performance increase so I stepped it back down to 4GHz at 1.25v.

    This was a really great video. I like the fact that you included the price of the motherboards as well as the different ram you can use. Plus, showing the website listings always helps so we can see where you got them from. I think lots of times when people do these videos the don't take into account the plateform as a whole. It wouldn't matter if you can get the CPU for dirt cheap if the motherboard and ram double or triple the price. This video will help me a lot as I am not well versed in overclocking and trying to find out if a motherboard can overclock adds more problems to the search. Thanks

  • @djbstewart4

    You should also give cinebench score of the cpu's at their stock and overclocked speed which will be very helpful in comparing them.

      Non-K Intel processors have lower TDPs as well, which means lower temps and better longevity.

    Can you do a "top used graphics cards for people who want to do high-ultra gaming without getting affected by the current crazy GPU pricing"?

    • @robertlebrun9306
      @robertlebrun9306 7 лет назад +1

      GTX 980 Ti on used for High-End gaming and GTX 770 for mid-end gaming. This 2 got the best price. The GTX 980 Ti can cost 200$ in good deals and for GTX 770 the price is around 80-90$

    a perfect video for my current situation, ty for this type of content :)
    my 920 and crappy intel x58 mobo do ok, but for a very good price i can get a one of these server processors and will get some benefit i believe. right now, i'm at 4.02 ghz but with hyperthreading off because the crappy intel mobo starts to throttle the cpu beginning at anything over 3.6 (from 2.67) with ht on.
    i was pretty much set on a x5670 but that w3680 is cheaper and i'm pretty sure they will yield basically the same result. cheers

    • @TheColonelK1LL
      @TheColonelK1LL 7 лет назад +1

      The W3680 is a beast, i managed to get mine to 4.5ghz no throttling at all. it can even handle a new GPU, i have a GTX1070 and have no bottleneck at all

    you can't change the clock multiplier but you can change BLCK speed. There is a vid. where a guy changed it from 100Mhz- 180Mhz gaining from 5660 up to 4,1 Ghz with slightly above 60 dC on stress(water cooling)

    Came here from your new top overclocking cpus. Given overclocking motherboards are 100 gbp plus it always seems cheaper to buy a second hand workstation in uk with case and psu and ram and then you can sell it on when get bored of it as a full pc!

    Use cpu-world to ensure what max all-core CPU frenquency in turbo-boost instead of intel's site, wich shows "max turbo frequency" only for 1 core. e5 2640 has max turboboost 2.8GHz on all cores, not 3GHz

    Last july i got Ryzen 5 1400, asus b350 and 2x4gb 2666 ram bundle for 320Eur. But i decided not to buy a new gpu since my r9 270x was enough for csgo/dota... Now i wanna play pubg/new AC, battlefield 1 and so on, but cant find any normal priced gpu..
    What's the best equivalent to gtx 1060 in the uses market, for less than 300eur?

      glostermeteor I'd recommend you the 1050ti as I use one myself... I play lots of BF1 on a High/Ultra mix mostly staying in the 58-67 fps range. If you can get it for a low price, don't hesitate... That's all I can tell you, hope it helps. :)

    Got an i7 3770 (non K) for about 115 USD great CPU for the price, but in games I can't see a difference from my old overclocked to 3.6 i7 860 (got for like 60 USD 1.5 years ago) because my HD7950 is a bottleneck, so in reality it's difficult to get a cheap and powerful enough GPU to bottleneck even i7 from 8 years ago.

      At some point the gpu and DDR4 bubbles have to burst. The DDR4 bubble is totally due to opportunism and gouging as there is obviously no shortage of DDR4 as you can get it no problem. The gpu bubble is actually due to supply and demand as miners are actually buying them up by the truckloads.

    • @Dennn90
      @Dennn90 7 лет назад

      christopher james I don't need to buy another gpu or system cause I've got gaming laptop with ddr4 and 1050ti for half-price, I just need another PC as a backup and test bench, so 7950 and 3770 should suffice
