- Go behind the scenes of Panasonic Lumix S1H (with Pre-production v2.0 firmware) film ‘Nightshift’ with creators Stuart Morgan and Lee Brimble. Shot late at night in Manchester, UK, it showcases the amazing capabilities of the Lumix S1H and Atomos monitor-recorders when pushed to the limits for fast paced production in low light. Morgan and Brimble shot over four nights with the Atomos NINJA V, SHOGUN 7 and NEON being used in many different applications for both monitoring and recording. It was recorded mostly using 4K Apple ProRes 422 in Super35 format, with the upcoming ProRes RAW recording option also being tested on one of the nights. The stunning result shows just what the camera and NINJA V can do.
You can watch the finished film here: • Nightshift - A short f...
The BTS was shot by Stuart Morgan on the LUMIX S1 in 4K. Nightshift was shot on the LUMIX S1H, with an Atomos NINJA V, using LUMIX and Sigma Lenses, backup and stored on SanDisk memory cards, G-Tech SSD's and Hard-drives.
The film was shot in early 2020 on the S1H using a variety of shooting modes (V-log, Cine-D, HLG and Apple ProRes RAW) using the pre-production v2.0 firmware for the S1H.

The post production segment at the end was a spectacular addition to this piece. Left field. This should be the standard to tech promo vids.
Thank you glad you liked it.
Regards Stuart Morgan
now that is what you call a great shoot
So amazed the rigged small aputure lights. Amazing light rig. Love it.
UKs with the finest house music in the background. Neat!
This is one of the greatest BTS films out there showcasing every capability of the S1H & the Atomos Ninja . Well done guys. Full marks.
DARK KNIGHT WITH AN IDEA thanks for you kind comments. Regards Stuart
That wireless ring light is brilliant!
Loved this. Really useful insights to the techniques and processes. Footage looked great. And funnily enough I've literally just finished a project using the same opening track from Artlist !
im soooo inspired right now, great job guys!
one of best BTS i`ve seen
Roger's Ring - love it! Great BTS guys, I picked up so many titbits from it. This camera - wow.
Aaah, one of my favorite cameras filming my favorite car : the Lexus LC 500, I love that !
beautifully done!!!!
Great BTS 🔥
great insight..I have shared this in our "photography & videography school" FB group
Really like this!
Respect 👏🏻
This is awesome... I did notice they was not shooting on the shadow side of the subject...that's rare for cinematic shots!
Fantastic BTS! With alot of tech details. Nice! I haven't shot in these lighting conditons yet. Surprised to see how good the f4 lens performs. I wonder at what point you decided to switch from VLOG to HLG or CineD mode.
My dream mirrorless camera!
Good quality s1h video
the way she was walking like shes on a mission
nice!
Lumix video king
nice!!
nice video
very good
Super ✨
Brilliant live series with Philip Bloom. Especially from Zimbabwe. Thanks Atomos!
A question. As it is called the equipment that they use to mount the cameras, I see that they have screens and many additional things apart from the camera. Tell me?
This camera is a beauty! You guys are awesome! Up and coming actor here who would be excited and amazed to work with you one day
best BTS. can you have 2 raw filmed files?
Alex R FILMMAKER how do you mean, two Raw files?
If the light rgb ring is diy i want a video of that!!!
The best cinema medium range set up for the price on Dslr Combo !! We got 2 S1h 's with Ninja s all in ProresRaw and even Braw now !! this combo kills surely lots of supperrated concurrency ..;
i wish yall put links to the equipment you bought
theres a diffusion filteer in the matte box so ....
What model number of the Aputure Amaran lights did you use for the ring light?
T Hogan Aputure AL-MC :) you’re welcome :)
"Stabilisation - Gimbal / Car Mount - IBIS on - body + lens"
Was the IBIS on really necessary?
seaglents it’s rather a case of in our experience and testing it doesn’t prove detrimental and still helps remove some micro gitters that you can get even on a car mounted gimbal.
I just find they all work well together, each one taking out different size bumps and jitters. The isolation unit takes the large bumps, then the gimbal smooths, so effectively you end up with the camera moving similarly to being handheld. Add the IBIS to that and it gives it a smoother look IMO
Yes, basically, it's a bit of a "buffer" for micro jitters caused by the motors.
5:24 what is this that you are wearing around your help to balance the camera on??? anybody knows?
its called a cine saddle
Anyone know why I have a red dots grain on my Ninja V + Panasonic Lumix S1H?
What do you mean, is there prores raw video update relase?
Yes May 25th
I know it’s not really the main topic here but since i am trying to build a car rig for a one hand gimbal and a mirroless cam, is there a way to know more about yours ? Like a reference to a product or some photos ? Thanks guys
Check out the kit by Rig wheels, Their isolation plate is very good and what we used on the film.
Shot in Manchester... How were they not mugged and the camera stolen?
I have noticed that you were feeding the Ninja V and the bigger monitor at the same time. Is it possible to have a video signal output from Ninja V while recording 5.9 ProRes RAW? If yes what would be the output resolution? Is it configurable?
Art, We had a version with , but everything we had was pre-release and we just don’t know if the final version has that function or not. Sorry I can’t be more specific at this time.
But where can you see the full short?
ruclips.net/video/SNP33wug0kY/видео.html
why u use light from camera side ?
So is the s1h able to shoot Prores 422? Or just RAW? As far as I have seen from the Tutorial it only said Prores RAW. Dies anybody know this?
I own the S1H. It will record ProRes 422 HQ, 422 and 422 LT to the Ninja V external recorder. With the firmware update on May 25th, it will also record 5.9K, 4K and 4K Anamorphic in ProRes RAW to the Ninja V.
@@EdStarkey Thanks man!
still cant afford the monitor... huhu
You're listening to the Team Deakins Podcast
What lights are those? The one used for the ring?
Aputure Amarans were the lights used for the Ring.
What's the name of/Where can i get the wireless light ring?
You can’t buy it, my wife and I made it at home out of mdf
wow
Music playlist?
Do you have to do a commercial like every 30 seconds? This is so obvious and over the top.
5:50 wtf is that grade? it looks better without it
Name of the song at 4:20 ?
god i would love to swap my gh5 for a s1h.
I dont understand why he is saying he loves the cinematic and not oversharpened look and then the finished short looks so far away from a film look as possible. Also the grading is killing any vibe. Oversaturated and sometimes even the WB is all over the place. To me it looks more like a typical youtube low light test video to proof how good ISO performance is and not like a short film. Especially the absence of a story strenghtens that impression. If I would not own the S1H I would overthink buying one after this video tbh. Especially these weird skin tones make the camera look like its not worth the 4000 euro =/
Peter Leukhardt good lord I was watching this video like... wtf is this? It doesn’t look like a movie at all, it looks like a RUclips video
Here's the thing. The Sigma Cine primes/Zooms are super super sharp and clinical. Absolutely zero caricature and very un-cinematic IMHO. These lenses need filtration to look good.
he also used diffusion so um... lol
Films can be everything from photorealistic animation which is amazing and better than most films and Avatar based billion dollar films that will have that cinema look to photorealism 3D effects to purely cinematic films with specialized cinema lenses. It is all good. Look at Pixar 'films', made billions and all done on super high end computers. 10-20 years from now computers will replace actors and cinema cameras. Better turn on your Apple IIe guys.
@@appleninja4ever I hope you are not trying to compare this video to your examples. I think you did not get what I was trying to say. But anyway; this video makes the s1h look like a cheap mirrorless.
No phase detect AF on the S1H though... what a shame
Director talking about how he loves narratives to a story and why things are the way the are. Then you watch the final product and it doesn't make any sense. There isn't a story nor a sense of where things are happening just jumping between locations. Camera movement and shutter speed is waay too distracting and the sound design is just non existence. Seriously I don't understand why major companies end up producing expensive content that just doesn't look good!
They should have Josh Yeo come do one of these.
Stop hating
so were not talking about the blacks that are way to crushed? sometimes more sometimes less
But I want to know the name of the model. She's stunning
Hello to everybody, I love to be an actor one day and can I be one of your actor please. I’m in Canada
you can't process prores raw in resolve. how do you process it in resolve looks like a plugin
All I see is you following a girl walking
I didn't like the color grading. I think it looked too video'ish and blacks and mids are too crushed. Also seems too saturated.
Terrible auto focus , the s1h.
Yikes.
Реклама хорошая , картинка говно . Надеюсь кто нибудь выпустит хоть какую то альтернативу BMpc4k
Face detect , really?😂
No I'm thinking switching from SONY !!!! WHY !!!
Should've shot it with a BMPCC 4K. That S1H doesn't look all that great.
All this money and gear. The final product is really bad. I dont understand why the image looks really poor. The colors are unnatural, the skin tones are shifted. The shutter speed is weird.
Is it me or the awful color grading just destroyed the dynamic range of the camera ? Quite disappointing for an ad...
Yikes. Just my opinion, but some of this was over lit and wayyy over graded. I always wonder how these companies choose Directors/DP's for promotional content like this. You'd think they would have these guys vetted first before funding their project, no?
what a terrible color-grading
犀利哟 are you referring to the BTS or main film?
@@stuartmorganproductions I am sorry for saying that. but I still think the color in BTS also main film are not comfortable. such as in 2:38 the WB is too blue, and 4:11 the girl‘s face a little bit overexposed and the back of the jacket is totally too dark with no any details can see. also in 4: 18 the face over blue and the background also in cold color which is made the girl cant stand out form the background. The main film looks so saturation and lose the detail. just my opinion.
@@stuartmorganproductions I have to confess i think the S1H footage and color grading are really not great... it looks "videoish", and not cinematic. the girls face is sometimes overexposed and the texture of the image looks "oversharp" and too contrasty. Sorry to say that.
@@Studio23creation I'm sorry to hear that Guillaume, grading like music is quite subjective. I am a big fan of the milky Log look. However I felt it really wouldn't lend itself to a nightshoot. Some of the scenes were intentionally shot using the CineD mode to show the diversity of modes and how they deal with the low light environment. CineD has a more contrasty punched look so I had to chose a more crunchy grade to match those shots. It also depends on what screen you are watching the film on. My Eizo calibrated monitor and my Panasonic 4K TV shows detail in her jacket but my iPhone doesn't as its a more contrasty screen.
@@lbrimble100 Yes that's subjective of course, that's right. It was just my opinion. I love cinematic grading, wich, actually, are not always so natural, and maybe you tried to stay natural here, but it doesnt appeal to me then. I'm watching on my imac retina 5K. best, from france !
nice video
