This why I love you all: I had to watch First Wives Club with my mom in that time, also watched Dennis Miller until he freaked out politically after 9/11 and NO ONE talks about Abel Ferrara's the Funeral these days, basically what David Chase wishes Many Saints of Newark was, The Funeral is pretty much time period Sopranos 3 years before The Sopranos and even has a bunch of Sopranos actors in it. I own a DVD of it but some generous human just uploaded it on RUclips last year and it's still up, highly recommended to anyone reading this who hasn't seen it.

One of them better draft The Birdcage and Stealing Beauty. Directed by two masters, Mike Nichols and Bernardo Bertolucci!
They always end up picking blockbusters first, I’m Twister, Independence Day, Jerry Maguire, and M Impossible 1 will be the first four picks. Maybe Sean will pick Fargo in the first round, maybe Amanda will do The English Patient.
The Birdcage is a much cleverer, more interesting comedy than anything else this year. And Stealing Beauty is a lovely coming of age story, with that precarious feeling of messing up as you first fall in love and consummate it

I feel like Sean's picks rarely reflect the kinds of movies he talks thoughtfully about in the Ringer podcasts. He has a 4 pick stretch here of Happy Gilmore, That Thing You Do, The Rock, and Independence Day. Only one of those movies (That Thing You Do) is generally held in higher regard with critics than it is with audiences, yet in the podcast discussions Sean generally comes across as somebody much more aligned with the critics, and the more "artistic" side of the discussion to the point of coming across as the gatekeeper of that vibe among his pod peers.

As a woman who is also a film lover, it makes me sad sometimes to see this widely viewed podcast featuring a woman who doesn't even seem to know many movies. I'm a year younger than her, and even though I may not have seen all of these as an 11 year old, I was familiar with most of them and have over the years seen most of them.... Maybe they should talk about what movies they plan to discuss before the show, so everyone can at least be prepared for the episode?
And I get it, she has other things going on in life, she's pregnant, etc... but this is her job, right? I just get so bummed when women are in cool positions like this, but they don't even care. Nerd culture was largely a boys club and so many of us came up being ostracized or pegged "weird" for being passionate about our hobbies and perhaps not knowing any other girls to share it with.
