“What color is the blue gummy bear?” - Amanda Dobbins
"You just want to go to Europe and drink"
We're in for a banger episode.
Sean is morphing into Bill
noooooooooooooooooooooo
He just is!
The optics on ringer fantasy drafts are just TOO GOOD
Nah, he's an actual film buff...
@@dereklawson1318 Sean knows very little
Amanda pulling a Jamarcus Russell "Yeah I watched the game tape" on this one
1:35:24 - Sean saying the line "I don't like sand" and not mentioning Attack of the Clones in the entire 2002 movie draft is crazy.
real missed opportunity to not continue with "it's coarse and rough and...gets everywhere"
I don't think I've even seen that movie and even I was sitting and home, on cue, saying "it gets everywhere". The segue king is slipping
Somehow Van Lathan ended up winning this one
Adios Sean and make van the host of the big picture and then it will be a good show
@@GonzoGolfthe Chris Ryan heads gonna come at you for attacking his bff
"this is what they felt when they saw 400 blows dog" lmao
Hitting a comment like this one while the person actually says the comment is quite exhilarating.
One of the most unhinged draft episodes, and that is saying something. Loved every minute of it.
So much chaos throughout the entire episode. Loved it!
CR’s glare at Sean is priceless at 1:36:58. Hahahaha
Did Amanda take an edible before the pod or what? Lol
Actually one of the more entertaining pods in a while.
crazy that this is my film school
Sean staring at Amanda while describing Punch-Drunk Love as relatable bc it's about a man struggling to find joy who is surrounded by hateful women lmao
Solaris, Road to Perdition, Death to Smoochy, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Equilibrium, The Count of Monte Cristo, and Changing Lanes are some underrated dark horses from that year. John Q was a big deal when it came out but pretty much never gets talked about now. Red Dragon and Insomnia are decent too. This pod needed like 3 more people to draft to really mine the depths of 2002.
Totally agree. I didn't get the consensus that it was a weak film year. I'd add City of God, Narc and About Schmidt. I took a glance at the years that bookend it, and I'll take 2002 over 2001 and 2003.
@@ibezzant Oh wow, I just assumed City of God got drafted. I didn't see a summary of all their picks anywhere, so I think I lost track. To their credit, they had some deep picks that I hadn't thought of in years.
@@ibezzant City of God wasn't eligible as it did not receive a US release until 2003.
@@bassman729 ahhhh. That's why Sean drafted Spirited Away which technically was released in 2001. I was wondering about that. So a lot of foreign films will be eligible a year after their official release year. Makes sense.
@@ibezzant that said, CR flouted this rule when drafting 28 Days Later as it also did not get a US release until 2003. So what do I know?
Not taking Spiderman or Signs is CRAZY
hearing that soap part on audio gotta be the craziest series innuendos I've ever heard lol
Deep cut by Chris with "State Property"
Biggest oversight is no mention of the all-time classic, Kung Pow: Enter the Fist.
Honorable mentions to Robin Williams' dark turns (Insomnia, One Hour Photo, and Death to Smoochy).
Amanda’s story about the soap at 35:00 is just insane. For one, electronic sinks work 99% of the time. Second, why would you use soap first? Soap goes on easier if your hands are wet.
I suggest you do a Misunderstood Draft across the regular categories. Would be great
Roger Ebert's favourite film of 2002 is MINORITY REPORT ..
I agree with that
I'm a proud member of the Dob mob, so I ask cautiously, but was Amanda on drugs in this episode?
weed gummies right?
Would be shocked and disappointed if she wasn't.
To be fair, the one thing I read in the piece about Andrew McCarthy says this:
And of Andrew McCarthy, one of the New York-based actors in St. Elmo's Fire, a co-star says, "he plays all his roles with too much of the same intensity. I don't think he'll make it."
I'm not crying tears for Andrew McCarthy, but I'm sure that made him paranoid. And for someone young and an actor - they do seem to be a different breed - it does seem like a thing he could fixate on for decades. The term Brat Pack seems to have had a very "Scarlet Letter" effect on him.
You can't be making a documentary about 20 words someone said about you 40 years ago. Bit much.
I would like Griffin Newman to explain the crazy bananas box office run of My Big Fat Greek Wedding to Sean and Amanda, please!!
1:21:15 honestly maybe the hardest I've ever laughed listening to this podcast 😂
Signs is a terrific film, vastly underrated
State Property love!!! You all are the best
9:23 the “Brats” segment of you guys roasting Andrew McCarthy should be its separate own viral clip lol. That docu is so bizarre
1:36:57 'Don't get fired, brother.'
Dobbins is getting daffier by the day
Love the 'Misunderstood' category! Also, in all fairness to Sean, I had the sane reaction as Amanda when he said he was Joy 😂
Can't wait till Amanda starts asking automatic taps to clear their cookies because of all the soap on her hands
Chris referenced both Traffic AND Ronin in a span of 3 mins
I love how Dobbins just can't for the life of her give any SciFi/fantasy or animated movie a chance. Sean mentions one of the greatest films of the decade and she's just like "YEAH YEAH YEAH--CONGRATULATIONS" I swear any movie that doesn't take place in an era or setting that she can understand is not a valid art to her or somehow beneath her. Unfortunately that puts sci-fi and fantasy completely out of the realm of her comprehension and it's hilarious. It also gives those types of genres way less exposure on this pod. I mean look at Sean like trying to wedge this in here and how awkward it makes him feel.
Rules of Attraction YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Idea for Hollywood and movie theaters: 🎭 🍿 🎥
I wonder if you could have screenings at theaters lasting for 90 minutes or 120 minutes of small short stories from a variety of young filmmakers , maybe 10-15 minutes each .
You could have self funded or studio funded short films that have a life at the theater. After you leave the theater you would have had a sampling of so many new visions and ideas from upcoming filmmakers.
You could rate and review the films. Talk about it with your friends online and maybe it could come around for awards season.
Marketing this may be a social media challenge all to itself but If the filmmakers and studios become popular amongst the youth we may see a rise in theater outings.
Working title: “Mystery Box Screening”
Video team, can we get a gummy bear cam for future episodes?
They’re always in a great mood, and it makes me happy just listening to them. But on this one Amanda was really having a good time at her job, Sean’s jokes were the wittiest they’ve been, and CR always looks like the dude you wanna grab a beer and watch a game with.
Amanda may have been having a great time, but I wasn't... nor I don’t think was Sean
Minority report is maybe a top five all time for me. ❤
Simply unreal levels of podding on display here
Have you not seen Road to Perdition?
been waiting for the 2002 draft! im sure they'll address this - just started listening - but this year has some of the highest highs and lowest lows of any potential draft year.
State property:
0% critics (12)
73%audience (5000+)
Classic film in my house
Young me really enjoyed Swimfan so hearing 40 seconds about Erika Christensen on this podcast unlocked something I had buried in my mind for decades. She’s fantastic.
Apparently the gummies were edibles.
City of God?
You should talk about movies you like but bill doesn't. Fade to black, the hard way and another stakeout. I love this show, keep it up
I hope this public breakup continues.
I am trying to over-interpret the different drink container choices.
I don't think I'd be alone in the desire for another Reign Of Fire movie. Fury Road meets Game Of Thrones ish dragon epic. Lots of mud, blood, grease, charred flesh & smoke . . . Maybe even black and white photography or the sepia tone similar to Lars Von Trier's The Element of Crime.
A lot of us wanted an ROF sequel :(
Always knew CR was my guy! He picked State Property lol he a real one thats a classic fasho
Lilo and Stich hivemind where you at?
Lightning sand art is definitely a thing
Once again, Amanda is trying so hard to not get invited back.
The Pianist
Bearded Sean is making me consider switching my allegiances away from The CR Heads and following my Lord of Letterboxd into battle!
Jk, I could never abandon my CR brethren’s!
I can normally deal with Amanda shrugging off generationally beloved movies; but her shrugging off both LOTR and Spirited Away and then going into excruciating detail about bottom of the barrel, reactionary romcoms was rough.
I love the pod, but she honestly cannot help but take needless swipes at LOTR whenever it is mentioned on a pod. It's fine if it isn't your thing, but she looooves to clown on it.
Boy Meets Grill is unhinged lunacy #crarmy
this was unhinged. lol.
Is Amanda serious with her selections or is this a bit
Super Troopers not getting a mention is a wild omission. All-time cold open.
Since the transition to video podcasts Dobbins has turned her performative dial to 11, and it's a slog to fast forward through 25% ramble. When you need to fill airtime pass the ball to CR for the jokes. It's like holding the basketball until a shot clock violation, when you have Steph Curry who can drain 3's from any spot on the court.
im cackling alone in my home office at 1:30 in the morning watching this.
Just make CR second chair already
did Chris or Amanda even want to do this??? fax!!!
So what? Seeeeaaaan! I went full completion at the mentioning of Russell Crowe! No kink shames bruv 54:13
1:19:34 I do this at least 3 times a day lol
CR @ 1:11:00 😂😂😂😂
Maya Trufflefries I forgot about that
I love how they all complained about it being an awful movie year and they end up drafting great movies
The Pianist is incredible whatever you think about Polanski
The Caravaggio of cinema.
Is the lighting harsh for anyone else?
Yes, but I think it's necessary for us to properly see the Gummi bears
This is the gummy bear draft, I don’t care what they say.
When will the draft start?? 🤨
22:45
So I've never seen Irreversible but I know some peep that swear by it. No mention? Not even from Sean?
It's rough. Not a fan.
An all time feel bad movie. Incredibly rough but some really love it
State property but no paid in full😂😂
55:00 i just saw Thief for 1st time... absolute classic, better than Heat--James Caan is the man...
I could not be a bigger Amanda fan but she definitely seemed a little distracted by gummy bears and slightly unprepared for this one.
Someone give that woman a full night's sleep.
Keep drafting movies close to your heart, girl. ("You have a baby...in a bar!")
(that is a line from Sweet Home Alabama. Did not see Amanda with Knox in a bar.)
not to be too serious here because i love that the big pic gets super silly, but this ep was almost unwatchable at points. amanda's constant derailment of the actual exercise really drove me crazy. LOVE her, but sometimes it's just like--can we get on with it and stop giggling through the entire show? i don't know if it's adding the filming component, but it has seemed worse lately.
Did I miss any City of God references?
Was having these same feelings, like that seems a crazy miss
Seriously, these people claim to know movies… crazy
It came out in the US in 2003. That being said, so did 28 Days Later
@@ramirezs316 Ah good call, I just go off of the year filter in Letterboxd and it shows up in 2002 when you sort it that way.
The chaotic energy Amanda brought to this episode was incredible, loved it
Amanda completely ruined this episode, she had no interest in participating at all. Their draft episodes are their best ones, but this one was almost unwatchable
Facts 💯
So,,,what was in those gummy bears?
Per box office tracking... it pretty much gets it right most of the time. It misses by a lot here and there but it gets it right a whole lot more. Not understanding why you guys bag on it. Otherwise great discussion as always-
Freeway > Beanie Sigel
Was Amanda zooted out of her mind for this episode?
No Insomnia? Clowns
Been listening to The Big Pic for a long time and honestly can’t stand Dobbins at this point. Someone should tell her liking Europe is not a personality.
Sean carries this pod like 07 & 18 bron
Same reaction to Brats. I was looking forward to it but couldnt finish it. Real crybaby shit.
I rewatched Gangs of New York recently and I think it was ahead of its time.
Adaptation is a deeply underrated film.
Minority Report isn't Spielberg's greatest film, but it is his last great film.
Gangs is a bit goofy but enjoyable on a level.
Adaptation is extremely overrated.
Minority Report is OK
Man, War if the Worlds is a crazy banger and West Side Story is probably the best western musical in like 30 years. I think he's pretty much back on top now.
city of god
This is why I'm part of the Dob mob. I ride for Amanda
The truest litmus test of the Ringerverse
How embarrassing to admit this
Are you an undiagnosed ADHD person with a princess complex also?
W the fuk?
Is it weird I really enjoy watching idle Amanda typing and fidgeting and stuff? She makes really funny faces with her reactions. That's my 2 cents.
undeniably a hall of fame Amanda performance
Incredible brat/only child energy
this is gonna make me sound horrible but.......is anyone else bothered by how screechy Amanda's voice sounds on these? I promise this is not a "woman voice bad" thing I just seriously think her levels are too high, it feels close to peaking, maybe something with whatever EQ they use? .......I feel bad pointing it out but I have to often lower the volume when she speaks both on audio and video podcasts.
I'm only now realising Larry and Magic's 🍑🍑.
Amanda. Thank you
Amanda just takes the show off the rails...Unsure if that is a good thing or not.
haven't watched yet, but does it feature Amanda being really upset over someone else's pick while also fist pumping disappointing someone else with her pick?
Sean deserves some kind of award for having the patience to deal with Amanda. From not being prepared or caring, to the 10 minute Sweet Home Alabama derailment. You can tell he's annoyed. Get someone in there who watches films and actually cares.
I would love Chris to permanently replace Amanda.
Yeah, I'm afraid Amanda is not nearly as goofily amusing as she thinks she is.
What a podcast to have Sean and Andy Greenwald.
Could you point to a moment when Sean is annoyed?
I think you're projecting, I would bet he loves the contrast with their personalities, its not that deep
