As someone else pointed out, while the feature is nice, you can easily replicate the feature in OBS/Xsplit by just adding the video sources, then arranging the windows into your canvas as needed.
Never pre-ordered something so fast! I've been looking for a solution like this, so I can stream console gameplay without having to switch from my "real" camera to a webcam :D
keep in mind that this capture card has input only, but for a console is easy fix with just getting a 15$ hdmi signal splitter, where that hdmi box takes the signal and basically duplicates it, so one can go to your tv and the other to the camlink pro, did that on a regular camlink as a test and worked pretty well.
I'm so glad you mentioned the audio not currently working in OBS at this time. Too many people doing reviews like this don't mention the camera audio and it can be such a pain to not know
Holy smokes, the functions with stream deck with this is pretty much what the studio was doing on $10k equipment + software for live streaming concerts. Or shooting talk show type shows as well. This really brought down the price and software needed to do all of that.

I've used both Elgato and Magewell cards. Two advantages to Magewell cards. 1) Magewell cards will capture the most screwed up not-to-spec HDMI signals that Elgato cards have no hope in hell of figuring out. This works great for all sorts of retro hardware which may use adaptors that aren't quite to HDMI spec. 2) Magewell cards can be simultaneously read by more than one copy of OBS running at the same time. I will use one copy of OBS to stream with all my overlays, and a second copy of OBS to record clean game footage for use later. None of my Elgato cards can feed two copies of OSB at the same time.
This is actually so helpful for crafting streams, which are multicam a lot of the time. I have USB webcams at the moment, so I don't need this, but definitely something I'll need in the future if I can afford nice cameras.
I would love to add a few different cameras after seeing this card, but as your other video explained, by the time I get the card and additional cameras, this likely isn't the best is of my money. Definitely something for a future investment though
2-4 consoles -> PC -> multiview on 4K TV = Local split screen multiplayer for games that don't have it otherwise, while recording each user's gameplay simultaneously at 1080p 60FPS (or an overall 4K scene to record the multiview, given that footage can be cropped in editing to 1080p for each corner anyway).
The moving one I would assume is attached to a auto motorized slider. They are very nice if you have the $. If you are looking for a non motorized slider for b-roll I know of a great priced one on Amazon.
I use the atem mini for work. Unless you are using black magic cameras it is not a great device obs can do everything it can software wise. The only real benifit is the nice light up buttons
I will pick this up because of its stream deck integration (I use the app on an old iphone). I would like to get 2-3 different camera angles for streaming. One close up, one ultra wide, and maybe a go pro. I've seen a streamer have an additional angle for a ddr mat. Playing with one certainly stands out.
I know a group of people who ran a small esports event at an apartment. It was a game of 3v3, and I can only imagine having cards like that would come in handy. Chances are they were using older, and more expensive ones at the time.
This really isn’t a bad option for a do-it-all capture card. If you want to capture gameplay with it from a console, for example, you could just get a low-latency HDMI splitter, capture one output, and plug the other into your monitor/TV. I use a Camlink knockoff without a splitter for capturing SNES Classic gameplay and it’s totally playable right in the OBS preview window.
Elgato has outdone themselves with this product! It looks really interesting and I can't wait to try it out eventually! I really love the editing style in this video with it being on the computer screen for most of the video! It looks really nice and I'm digging the vibe! Great video!
I don’t need quad capture right now but this is so impressive! I wanna see them keep pushing quality products at ridiculously competitive prices. Definitely building trust with me.
The use for this card you didnt mention is multi monitor capturing in a 2 pc setup. This would save on needing multiple cards or save a pci slot. And for cheaper.
I agree if one of them was 4k60 I would be able to replace the 4k60mk2 that I use. I wouldn't use it for a camera of course, but being able to have the devices I capture hooked up to one card would be invaluable.
So I have been looking for exactly this... I recently upgraded my set up after officially quitting my long time office job and going into content creation full time. Heres my current set up. I have a vertical monitor that I use for Twitch chat and talking head videos with a DLSR camera. I also have a camera that is my main webcam for streaming. But I had a thought, I can use this to set up the two cameras plus one for capturing a Nintendo Switch. My only issue is if I have room for this and a 4k Pro?
This would be massive as I do some builds on my channel and I would love to have a cheap option for switching for an overhead cam and secondary angle... Now to blow more money on CAMERAS!!!
I agree with the idea of having at least one input do 4k@60hz/1440p@144/120hz. As someone that games on their primary PC at 1440p@144/120hz and has multiple camera setups (I do racing streams so a chest cam, foot cam, and a sort of isometric cam), this product does seem pretty perfect...minus not being able to send my PC video signal to my second PC at the resolution and refresh rate that I want to. Currently I use NDI to send my primary PC's desktop to the secondary PC which works great, but I'd much rather have a capture card in the second PC to send a much more clear video signal. Right now, I use a HD 60 Pro, a Cam Link, and a PS EYE USB camera to get the 3 camera sources to my secondary PC. As you said, I'll be waiting for a mk.2 version of this product in which I REALLLLLY hope there is at least one port that can do the bandwidth needed to accept a 1440p@144/120hz signal.
If you don't need UHD and 1080p60 is enough, the ATEM mini seems like a better solution to me since it also offers an HDMI out, hardware controls, YUV 4:2:2, 10-bit color, and the ability to control it remotely by plugging it into the network. In the end it comes down to PCIE vs External.
I currently have 3 cams (would be 4 if i could hook up my GoPro, but main cam is using my only camlink) this is an absolute game changer (for me) holy......I need to get this ASAP! Thanks for the informative video Harris.... Also i absolutely LOVE the camera tracking you subtlety did with the back n forth, would love to see more of that :)
While I'm not looking to stream much these days, I do have a use case for multiple camera views as I am a modeller and miniatures painter so having a top down view of my work area, a side view for close in work and a face view for talking head sections are what I curreently have planned. I don't have 4K capable cameras, just 1080p - all existing gear I picked up cheap. I was going to grab a camlink for the SL2 anyway, but using a PCIe slot instad of a USB input is far more to my liking as I have a static set up and do not need the portaility of the camlink. I'll be interested to see how this compares as an option to the ATEM Mini Pro (the ATEM Mini does not have actual multiview) or the Feelworld Live Pro AM-100 which are 4 x 1080p HDMI inputs. In the case of the ATEM mini Pro, it integrates well with the Rodecaster which is what I use for my podcast. Certainly a lot of food for thought here, and the timing is actually perfect as the ATEM Mini Pro or the LivePro were under serious consideration as a purchase in the next 8 weeks,
That's so cool! I'm looking forward to seeing this HYPER affordable device help more creators tackle the multi-cam setup! This will make for an even better podcast experience, hands down!
On their twitter announcement they said there's no passthrough and you'll need to use a HDMI splitter or use the preview in the software when intending to use this card to capture console and PC
Yes. 100% I wish just ONE of the slots could do 4k60. I only need 1 4k60 for my gameplay & all my cameras can be 1080p60. Yes, you could do the Cam Link Pro + 4k60 Pro, but at that point I'd rather just buy the Black Magic card so it only takes up 1 pcie slot
Just a random guess, but I'd be willing to bet he got in on Josh Yeo's kickstarter orbiting camera robot arm. I don't know if it's actually out of pre-production yet, but it's a super cool one man studio item that can pull shots like that. Make Art Now is the channel
Sounds pretty cool. I'm not a gamer, I just like doin how to videos with different angles. currently I use the HD60 with 3 to 4 cams connected to a remote controlled video switcher (seamless) and wireless audio into a DAW. I'm setting up an Atem Mini Pro for more effects
I need this really badly because of the simplicity for the software. I currently own a 4K60 MK2 and 4K Camlink and are doing very well. But my money is going somewhere else for the time being. Will grab this as soon I saved enough money!
Loved your review. Just one question. Does this need the camera to output 4K 30 or 1080p 60 exactly? My primary camera outputs in 4K 25 or 4K 50. Does it downscale or upscale the fps?
Listen Harris the GoPro thing didn't work out for me and I think you should definitely make a video about which GoPros to use cuz the Bible Pro 7 was not usable really much
No current need for this device, but always enjoy your videos and watch them thoroughly. After all, it was your video about the Canon webcam utility that made me give up on trying to get a decent webcam and go for an M50 setup. Best wishes on the move...
good question, since it doesn't have an "Output" on the card, only 4 inputs. Sooo geting the image from a console to my stream isn't the problem, because of the 4K cap. utility. But you can't show the game on your monitor like the 4k60pro can, right?
I know something like a capture card is different from an ATEM Mini in the fact that one lives in your computer and the other is an outboard piece of gear, but if your primary need is the ability to switch between four cameras at 1080/60p at once, an ATEM Mini ($300) still seems like a much better deal, no? Assuming you've got enough desk space and want the physical switcher capabilities...
*It's Nice but I don't think I'd need 4 inputs even thought I have 3 camera's because I wouldn't use all three at the same time nor having to put them on and then take them off but I also just bought the HD60 and Cam Link a few months ago which I haven't had a Chance to utilize YET but will but this is pretty cool. Elgato does have some AMAZING stuff which is why I have the Key light and the Master Mount with Flex Arm.*
I'm using 2 Camera's now with (2) Cam Link 4K . Would you say this is more geared toward Live Streamers? I'm asking this because I like to do that Multi angles when it comes to talking an then switching to unboxings or Should I just leave with the Cam Link 4Kd?
Unfortunately there is a bug that blocks you from using OBS as a webcam in zoom, Meet, Skype, etc... . In fact the resolution of the virtual cam is extremely low and cannot be changed (to my knowledge at least). If you know how to fix this please let me know.
Would this work for game capturing as well? Let's say in case of mirroring main display to HDMI for this card? It could make this card even more interesting if we can use one card for every video input.
I was just reviewing Quad camera cards. You had mentioned in another video the Blackmagic card so I put that in my list of stuff to get later. Now I am liking this new Elgato. It just so happens, I have 5 cameras. Is it possible to use this card and a Camlink input? Thank you for all of your time and work on this tech.
I can see this been purchased by people using multiple 1080p consoles and a decent camera, as its cheaper to buy decent hdmi splitters than it is to buy decent hdmi switches, and not have to worry about the lack of passtrough, as the splitter handles that aspect. Probably make a good experiment for you with this new cam link card in all honestly, testing the cam link pro like that along side the traditional way of capuring everything else on multiple single devices; and see if it works without issues. Could allow people a route to a great upgrade for less outlay if it does. After all, most people still dont need 4k for streaming or content creation. Especially in regards to Twitch streaming.
I already own a Blackmagic DeckLink Quad HDMI Recorder, but damn the Cam Link Pro is interesting. The compatibility with the Stream Deck is like having a Blackmagic ATEM Mini with more functions. Now I wouldn't mind four 4K60 inputs for a bit more money (and would be ready to upgrade in a few years) just for the stream deck integration. Good job Elgato. (btw the motorized dolly shot is probably made by something from Edelkrone)
Just ordered, thanks for the video! Funny enough I got the Blackmagic DeckLink you mentioned in the video just last week so thankfully I can still return that and save like $200. Thanks again!
okay i am very tempted just because I have 2 cameras + the Razer Kiyo. I could totally do a split screen setup when I am building stuff. One camera on me, one camera on the DIY project.
The price of the other 2 options had me investigating webcams and phones. This brings it closer to approachable and makes finding 2nd hand camcorders etc an option again.
I see this card as having a way to connect your camera AND multiple consoles without having to switch between them constantly, while freeing up a bunch of USB ports when you replace all the individual cam link devices.
Wish I seen this two weeks ago, I purchased the evga and elgato hd 4K to replace my hd 60, having 4 hdmi would have came in handy since I flip flop back and forth from using laptop to game or PC build.
not sure but someone might find this interesting but there's a camera switcher called from Blackmagic design called the ATEM mini it isn't quite as advanced but it is usb c and has an hdmi out as well (in other words no pci slot required), but anyway thought someone in the comments might find it interesting.
So one thing that I haven't seen any video or article talk about just yet... does this also capture consoles? Can I theoretically buy this thing and use it as 3 Camlinks AND an HD60Pro to capture my console to OBS?
@@ChrisTitusTech good to know man honestly didnt even think u watch harris video

Hey guys! Just wondering... Does a quad card like this one requires a lot of resources? I stream with an ATEM Mini for switching and OBS just for overlays and streaming and barely use 15% of the CPU
This is something I have been looking for for a while now I do irl drone racing streaming and I capture alot of hdmi sources 2 from cctv boxes which pick up all of the analogue signals coming from 8 flying drones then a couple of cameras on the track to show live action. I brought a blackmagic atem mini a while ago for switching between cameras while streaming but something like this at a similar price and able to do multiview as well would be nice
You didn't mention this specifically, but I assume being a "CamLink", it still offers native support in chat/video programs like Google Meet, Teams, Zoom, WebEx, etc. Related to that, isn't that an advantage over the other products you mentioned, or do they also show up as "camera" inputs, and not as "capture devices"?
The editing on this video with all those angles, and the camera moving slowly from side to side from behind the monitors though 🔥 Thank you for inspiring me to keep improving my own content.
Thanks for sharing Harris! As a creative streamer/youtuber this is really something i'm looking for and in a price category thats affordable, after some time figuring out if you want to do that in a longer term. I own 2 Cams so that would be easier to handle at the backside of the pc and yeah it triggers to buy more cams, in my opinion :) Have a good day!
Anyone else have any issues with their CamLink working to begin with? Ended up just still using the Logitech webcam because the CamLink won't ever work even tho it says it's compatible with my camera.
For those asking about his camera moving side to side, Harris has an electric slider that he programmed to move from one end to the other on repeat. 🤙🏼
This is great and all, but I wish they would just release a camera. Whether that's a great USB camera to dethrone the c920 or a purpose built HDMI camera that doesn't have all of the unnecessary bells and whistles that a standard mirrorless/dslr has.
for the camera that's behind the PC, at eye level, (and says at 3:50 is on a flat color profile), how is it slowing panning left to right and then back again?
pretty amazing piece of tech! I really love that elgato is tuning into the budget of their customers with this one. Hopefully its a trend they continue.
I see this being really good for sim racers. One camera on the pedals, one on the steering input and one on there face like a normal stream. Or just making it all side by side to have a 3 wide set up to show people what they see.
This actually solves an issue i have, i have lots of PCs and a few monitors - with this, i can have 5 PCs on the same monitor (4 inputs + the one its attached to) thats absolute epic!!
What's up Alpha! Great video. New to the channel & I'm sort of a newbie to all the El Gato tech but I had a quick question for you or anybody else that could hopefully answer. Would I be able to use this Cam Link Pro as a game capture card and streaming device for my Xbox Series X game play as well as capture my 5D mkiv DSLR as a face cam for streaming simultaneously? Thanks!
Bigger question I have is can it be used as a sort of combo unit for streaming games from a second PC? One of the things I wish Elgato made is something that at least does game capture AND camera capture in one.
My goal as a stranger is to connect an NES, SNES, N64, & GameCube to my pc. Trying to decide if this would work. I know if need converters for RCA to HDMI.
Does it do software encoding or Hardware encoding ? Is there any latency ? Is the PIP scaleable of fix size ? How does the Capture card PCIe affect the bandwidth of GPU PCIe ?
My only question is how would you set up to pull game through it, into a display. Like if had two cameras to capture and wanted to play my switch for stream?
The Multi-view feature looks more like a supersource than a multiview - it's not giving you preview / programme & tally info, rather just pulling up multiple sources at once?
Is there a way to record all inputs individually at the same time? I record fitness classes and use the black magic quad with four Sony A6400 cameras. The only way I’ve been able to do this is to open four instances of OBS.
Hi, I would firstly like to say thanks as some of your reviews have helped me purchase some of the better equipment for stream, secondly I was wondering as a console streamer could I have these connected into each of my consoles instead of cameras as I use a standard USB webcam right now, because if so I could get rid of my HD60S+ as some times in OBS it crashes when I go live and have to disconnect and reconnect to get it to work again
This be really good photographer who stream. We always have spare cameras laying around, now when we stream a photoshoot we can now have all kind of angle showing what we're doing.
Yo, community idea pot 👇🏼 What creative camera angles can you come up with? Leave an idea or take one for your own stream

An FPV angle of your setup would look amazing as well. Eye level showing the operation on another angle.

Harris, I'm ready for the Cam Link Pro!!!! I have been waiting for this for sooooo long!
Tell us more about Cam 4! That auto-dolly shot is wild. Behind the scenes please?
I know this was mostly focusing on multiple camera aspects, but can it be used for multiple gaming console hookups at the same time as well?
yes, it is a capture card. as long as you can set output on the console you good
good question, since it doesn't have an "Output" on the card, only 4 inputs. Sooo geting the image from a console to my stream isn't the problem, because of the 4K cap. utility.
But you can't show the game on your monitor like the 4k60pro can, right?
@@SaarphireTTV it's pci express, so if you don't have a pc to plug in to, you should not buy it. That is the output
I just got one of these in the boxing day sales. Installed it tonight and it just worked. No issues.
I was so confused to what they actually did so this helped!
This was an extremely well edited video! Mad props to Sam on this one!
okay i am very tempted just because I have 2 cameras + the Razer Kiyo. I could totally do a split screen setup when I am building stuff. One camera on me, one camera on the DIY project.
this would be incredible for the wife and i's dual stream. currently using ndi to get her cam and gameplay from her laptop to my pc.
Just bought my cam link pro. Excited to get it! Bought it to stream pokemon openings. Planing on having three cameras.
This could be so useful to content creators who do arts/crafts, cooking, sewing, even gamers with a pet cam!
not sure but someone might find this interesting but there's a camera switcher called from Blackmagic design called the ATEM mini it isn't quite as advanced but it is usb c and has an hdmi out as well (in other words no pci slot required), but anyway thought someone in the comments might find it interesting.
So one thing that I haven't seen any video or article talk about just yet... does this also capture consoles? Can I theoretically buy this thing and use it as 3 Camlinks AND an HD60Pro to capture my console to OBS?
Ok... I know I'm gonna get roasted for saying this, but I have ONE pro to the MAGEWELL Card...
It can run on Linux!
@@StopTryingSoHard Decklinks are terrible in linux with minimal support. I returned mine. Magewell was far more compatible with different distros.
I work for my city's news station and we use the stream deck and OBS while producing shows for web
Anything about it's color depth and compression formats? Is it on mjpeg or something?
I own 2 Cams so that would be easier to handle at the backside of the pc and yeah it triggers to buy more cams, in my opinion :)
Have a good day!
Thanks, looking for a vid and 3d print files now :)
Yes I knew that he had one of these, and I figured that what it was. I love it!
@@Drunktopus i am supriced he took so long to add it
This is great and all, but I wish they would just release a camera.
This is exactly how I'm about to use it for Twitch streaming races. Maybe a 'face reaction' cam close up for when I get punted :)
@@phoenix10racing someone went into turn one a little to hard. That sounds like it would be a cool set up.
I would still get more use out of the Avermedia Live Gamer Duo, but this is a cool idea that I can see uses for.
Ok yes this makes me wanna wanna pick up a couple of go pros and add angles for intermission screen
I'll probably get on next month. Along with the stream deck.
I only got one more available PCIe slot.
My goal as a stranger is to connect an NES, SNES, N64, & GameCube to my pc. Trying to decide if this would work. I know if need converters for RCA to HDMI.
@@retched Would there be a better option?
@@retched That would require another monitor on my desk. I'm trying to stick with 2. How bad would the lag be?
Does it do software encoding or Hardware encoding ? Is there any latency ? Is the PIP scaleable of fix size ? How does the Capture card PCIe affect the bandwidth of GPU PCIe ?
Considering purchasing one to see if it'll work in my Mac Pro 2010 Stream-PC running Windows 10
My only question is how would you set up to pull game through it, into a display. Like if had two cameras to capture and wanted to play my switch for stream?
The Multi-view feature looks more like a supersource than a multiview - it's not giving you preview / programme & tally info, rather just pulling up multiple sources at once?
I wonder if this one will plague me with constant signal drops as well👍🏻
moms spaghetti at the back of the white PC love it, and the cam link pro is much needed
