On macOS there always has been SoundSource and Loopback from Rogue Amoeba. It‘s a one time payment license but the software is great, always updated and reliable. Elgato is far behind in the functionality behind the mentioned tools.
Why even have physical buttons and knobs at this point? A 100% touchscreen would be ideal. What makes or breaks this type of product is the software. You can get a decent touchscreen for $50 these days.
They NEED to make an XL of this one! Also, just an absolutely absurd idea, Stream Deck ULTRA (or something like that) Its a "Stream Deck +" made XL with a XLR input. So its a Streamdeck XL, Streamdeck +, and a Wave XLR all in one, all the things any professional streamer needs all in one package. It would mean just 2 cables for almost all your gear.
Elgato has said they are not currently working on an XL version of this, or a true XLR audio mixer, a GoXLR/rodecaster competitor However I believe with this feedback they will absolutely be doing that soon, also I think you just mean an audio mixer at the end there, that's what it would be, an audio mixer but completely customizable so it could be so much more I'm holding out, won't be buying any of it until I see Elgato make an audio mixer
Why not a stream deck ULTRA XL with 64 buttons, 8 knobs, and a long touch strip along the whole thing. Knowing them they'd charge 700-1000 USD for it though.
To control the RGB in my room. Make it bluer, redder or greener or blend the colors via Home Automation. Control camera controls when recording. Control audio of course. Use it in photoshop, 3ds max, etc.. to tweak things like height, width, adjust colors, etc.. in 3d/photo editing things.
I already use a Loupedeck Live, so I use dials for controlling volume for various sources in OBS, mic, headphones. In photoshop, brush size, opacity, layer opacity, exposure, capture one, picking images, contrast, saturation, clarity, etc. Lots of things. Oh and I can set the dial presses to whatever I want :P. The software looks good, but overall doesn't feel new at all.
Fun camera zooms for me :> I have an Elgato Facecam and I love using the zoom on it for funny emphasis so being able to do with a knob seems so much more intuitive and flexible Like- set the sensitivity as low as you can and you can use the knob to zoom in and out gradually, rapidly, punch in multiple times, zoom out briefly then back in, you get the point. It's a knob, you can do anything. And then if possible, set the click in action on that same knob to reset the zoom to whatever level you want.
setting throttle controls in Star Citizen - speed limiter (and cruise control speed), thrust levels, gamma levels and night vision modes. Potentially mining laser intensity and switching laser modes (fine tune control is a must), there's more I'm sure but those immediately come to mind.
Loved the video, really looking forward to getting the new Stream Deck, but the thing I loved most about this video was the transition at 9:50. Fabulous.
Elgato has said they are currently not working on an XL version of this. That being said looking at feedback, I think it's highly likely they will make a bigger, better version and also a true GoXLR/Rodecaster competitor audio mixer
Elgato coming in hot targeting the Beacn Mix Create at that $199 price. The 8 buttons becomes so many more with the swipe to change pages and the knob stacking feature. Besides also working on Mac, the fac that this now let you use ANY USB mic or XLR mic & interface is huge. Also, can't wait to see what 3rd party plugins add!
I have the Beacn Mix Create and The new Streamdeck Plus is an absolutly Gamechanger. I bought the Beacn because there was no better alternative from Elgato to control the PC audio and use your own audio setup.
WTF!!!! They had a surprise release 1 month after I purchased my first stream deck? It just passed 30 days and I can't even return. This is exactly what I need. If I have this I would get rid of my voicemeeter banana and I wouldn't need to buy another mixer thing. This is exciting and making sad during the holiday. Why didn't they announced it like earlier to say it's coming in winter 2022... By the way you have great review as always cheers to you Harris
I love how much your excitement comes through in this video. Not just excitement for the tech, but excitement for all the new ways you can create and work seamlessly. It always makes me happy to see creatives inspired.
First of all, those transitions are clean af. Secondly, the architecture of your house is sick af. Definitely life goal material. Lastely, I wanna get an elgato footpedal and this thing because the possibilities are worth exploring.
I want to compliment the editing of this video. Leaving some of those mistakes to show personality separates the review from the others! No one else can be you Harris love it!!
The knobs is one thing, what's underrated though is the sliding touch panel, you can map all the buttons on the 8 button setup by using multiple pages you can slide through using the touch panel. You can probably get as many buttons as you would have just using that alone.
I'm gonna need to buy one of these! It seems like a game changer. The ability to use Wave Link without having to own a Wave-mic or interface. Now I can finally have submixes!!
love the video but uhh i really want that white hoodie, where did you get it? or is that an obvious question considering it has mickey mouse on the strings
So they made a Loupedeck with 4 less knobs... I mean it's progress for the Elgato ecosystem but not revolutionary. I think this is a cool piece of kit and cant wait for software updates to help unlock its potential.
Purchased this thing after watching your review. Love it. I don't stream but using it for productivity and as a freelance 3D artist working with Blender. All those macros and even the knobs feel like blessing.
Elgato has said they have no plans to do this currently but are looking at feedback They will most likely make a competitor to the GoXLR/Rodecaster soon and it will be amazing. I'm holding out on buying anything until that happens
Why I love coming back to this channel, that intro camera transition was CLEAN! Always something new to take away from the video even if it isn't the actual product or topic of the video.
Oh wow, I've been using SAMMI (previously Lioranboard) for a really long time now because it's always felt more modular than a stream deck and I had an old android phone to dedicate to it anyway, but this is the first hardware stream control device where I've been like "okay, this changes things and I might need it" Very solid review, thanks for all the content and coverage over the years!
I think if you're already tied into the Elgato environment, then this would be what you would go with. That being said, Loupedeck has had the Loupedeck Live and the Loupedeck Live S that has the same basic design and functionality. Loupedeck has been a go-to for those creating outside the streaming universe with functionality for so many creative suites.
I've waited so long to get a Stream Deck but these nobs are honestly going to help my photography editting so much, very excited to finally pick one up at some point now
Other reviews on this device were cool and all but holy heck you make me want one, showing us all the cool stuff you can do with editing controls, love it.
I used to have one of those big control surfaces, before Blackmagic design launched theirs I had one from a company called Tangent devices. This new Stream Deck would work amazing alongside the Stream Deck XL. I would do a profile for Davinci Resolve on the XL and set it to switch between knob setups.. for example: one for color grading "primaries" and the knobs are for lift/gamma/gain. Then one for secondaries where you can switch between the knobs moving the curves adjustments and another for keying. Once you use knobs for keying you will never want to go back to anything else. The real power of the knobs is being able to manipulate two values simultaneously while seeing the result onscreen. That is amazing for color grading and editing. For editing you could have a key on the XL to switch you over to have the knobs change the gain on your first 4 audio channels (8 with the pedal modifier?) And another to use them for time remapping. Tons of functionality with both and you free up the eight keys on the new device to fine tune stuff you are working on under that "page" or for more general stuff.
this is the best review so far I have watched for the new stream deck. other reviewers act like salespeople. here you explain functionality in detail and how this product is helpful now and the potential in the future.
Just picked up one yesterday. I've already set it up as my scene switcher and OBS audio control. This relegates my OG StreamDeck (The 15 button one) to being my soundboard controller. I've also moved some other functions over to the Plus, like my computer power buttons and added a volume knob so I don't have to rely on keyboard buttons. When it comes to audio control, I 100% prefer physical knobs/faders over buttons and touch screens.
@ When I am streaming, I do have it set up to control audio levels in OBS, yes. I also have a second page where I can control audio levels for each specific user in Discord Voice. Not to mention the things you can do in other applications. Just adding a few knobs made it a game changer.
I’m gonna be moving in like 2 weeks, and I’m so excited to (hopefully eventually) start streaming again. Seeing this device increases that excitement even more
Does the stream deck have mic inputs? I have a TenLamp soundcard that I want to upgrade with 2 condenser mic (1/4” inputs) What low cost way can I work best with the StreamDeck + if it doesn’t have mic inputs?
my prayers have been answered with this device. i've been longing for a streamdeck like device with programmable keys and knobs for my wave 1 mic. i was using the cooler master master pad but now that this is a thing i'll be getting one
Ok, the fact that this can enable Wave:Link just changed everything for me. The biggest thing that’s stopped me from saving up for upgrading from the Wave:3 to the Yamaha ZG01 was that I’d lose my audio mixing setup.
Love the idea, but I just bought a stream deck recently. The not needing a mic thing is great, and should be patched into their other Decks as well. Also would be cool if they released a set of knobs as an attachment for those who want the macro control but already have a stream deck (probably not worth their time though)
The stream deck is a saving grace for streaming because I love to vibe to music during gaming but it may be too loud for the stream OR it's copyrighted and this simple ability to change audio for the streamer and the audience separately makes streaming so much more fun.
This makes me super glad I have not purchased a stream deck yet. A stream deck was on my list to purchase and was waiting for a sale but this suits my needs much more.
I love it!!! Purchased one and arriving today. After watching you(as always) explain the functions and possibilities it can accomplish, I'm so excited to blend it into everything I do to create content. First thing I thought was it would make my GoXLR obsolete. But I think this Stream Deck is something that can just work along side it and hold hands instead of just pushing it towards the legacy equipment pile😉 Thank you Harris for always inspiring me to look forward and beyond what's obvious. You are and will always be my STREAM DOCTOR!!
Some of these features have been in place for awhile on Corsairs keyboards and just got mapped over to a dedicated device including knob features. Corsairs really building a special ecosystem. If they managed to get a hardware manufacture under their belt they could be deadly.
I hope they integrate the audio levels with OBS so you can control individual sources in OBS. Also - all the things in Resolve... Including adding nodes etc...
Windows 11 (I think also Win 10) has a built in mixer just like Wave Link, I just use a Korg Nano Kontrol 2 that has 8 knobs, 8 sliders, and about 30 buttons to control each applications audio. I think its like $80 and add that with a Stream Deck XL and its been a perfect match. I see this new device being for people who are "all in" with the Elgato Ecosystem with the camera, the lights, but for those who have more professional -or- cheaper gear I prefer to stay with neutral devices to control everything.
Definitely a very exciting update to the Stream Deck. Might finally be time for me to start expanding how I use mine. Separately, love that you're keeping up with the nail polish and breaking gender stereotypes!
This seems like quite the tech! I'm not sure how much I would use the knobs, but I may need to think outside the box for it. The touch panel scrolling pages is HUGE. I only have the tiny 6 button StreamDeck Mini, and having a third of the buttons gone for different pages is a big impact. Though I saw the StreamDeck Mk2 is on sale, so that may be sufficient for my needs.
Interesting! Yeah, it does looks like it could be better at multiple programs compared to the regular streamdeck. I do use the 5x3 version for a mix of photo, video, and audio editing.
Looks pretty cool if your already in the Elgato ecosystem. Though it does look like a copy (same-same but different) of the LoupeDeck Live, though that has 6 knobs, 2 slider screens, 12 touch pads, and 8 buttons.
Every car manufacturer: “you don’t need buttons and knobs, you really want to take your eyes off the road for 5 mins while you navigate a bunch of touch screen menus just to change the wiper speed or aircon temp…because we think it’s cool and you want cool, don’t deny it, we are sure, in fact we know, we are right” Elgato: “have some knobs and buttons, you can program them to do whatever you like so you don’t need to look away from the monitor for very long, if at all…because this’ll likely make things easier for you, and that’s what you want isn’t it?” Elgato should do cars interiors, they understand how people “want” to interact with technology
Give Harris his red knobs Elgato. You know you want to. This is super cool, holy shit. Gonna have to consider this for my up-and-coming work setup. Thanks for the informative video as always Harris!
I love it already. I’m gonna have to grab one of these cause the application audio would come in handy so much. I love my Revelatory dynamic, I just wish I had more than 3 channels to send audio to and an easier way to turn game or music volume up and down without clicking out of game.
Honestly this is kind of exactly what I've been looking for. I have been messing around testing Midi Mixer which also is a pretty sweet piece of freeware to use with a midi mixer
all i can say is bro holy shit... your amazing for one but this is the most helpful video i have ever seen and im not just talking about the fact its about what i want to know. im talking about that i have never found a video ever talk about everything you need to know about something but you didn't make it overloading and i actually remember everything you said. Thank you
Ordered it yesterday ... can't wait for it to arrive. Completely agree, this really looks like it will be the best Elgato device ever. (can't wait for the audio mixer).
Looking forward to part 2 and follow up of this. I also have the XL and this really caught my eye. I also have the foot pedal and its one of the best add-ons I have for my setup when the hand are busy on the keyboard. The part 2 of this would be your testing that you mentioned with the hotkeys.
6:11 Sidenote, they did not actually made this multi channel audio stuff for mac but licensed it from a company that does this for years and years (rogue amoeba) - elgato just made it mainstream and usable for non audio pros. But doing so they fixed a really big flaw in MacOS. In fact i can't imagine working an a mac that does not run wavelink.
Free idea for Elgato from an interaction designer: A new kind of dial stack where you can tap the screen above the dial or click the dial to enable scrolling through stack items with the dial. Then tap again to choose the dial function to start using. Much better for scrolling through a stack with more items.
The only thing I will say is that Loupedeck has been easily been doing the hotkeys on knobs since the beginning. That doesn't diminish that Elgato can do it (and Elgato has better software in general), but there was at least an option. I use my Loupedeck Live S (Razer Stream Controller now) every day for video and photo editing.
As someone who has OCD and uses folders for my Stream Deck functions, I can see this replacing my Stream Deck + Beacn Mix Create at home. Really intrigued by the trim usage of the knob in an editing program.
So we can basically skip the GoXLR and all the other mixers, and just use this? Take any XLR mic, plug it in, and just use this for basic streaming? No need for Rode or anything?
Correct me if I'm wrong, this can act as a Wave XLR and Stream Deck in one convenient package? Eliminating the need to purchase both products separately.
@@ReymarcArchives I'm wanting to start streaming soon, but don't want to spend any money without first doing my homework. Should I buy a Wave XLR and Stream Deck or purchase this and pair it with a cheap interface to connect my XLR mic to my PC?
@@gumballwaterson1189 Unfortunately I'm not too experienced with Elgato. I'm currently running a BEACN Mic and Mix Create. However, I suspect that you should be able to use the Elgato wave link software with any other mic that's attached to your PC, so I bet you don't need to commit if the wave XLR or wave1/3 if you're looking for other cheaper options. That said, the wave 1 is already pretty cheap compared to other USB mics, and if you get the wave XLR, you will still need to get a microphone. At the end of the day it'll come down to preference and budget.
luckily i haven't ordered the loopdeck live yet - because i actually wanted something from elgato with nobs.. now i'm looking forward to the stream deck +
This thing looks peak with all of its functions and stuff. What I think is underrated is that it has a detachable cord so in case the cord breaks it's easy to replace. Unlike the OG model.
As someone who has been using the Wave 3 microphone since launch I am very excited to try and get one of these. I hate having to open the software every time I wanna mess with my volume levels.
There's one problem with audio devices from Elgato - no inputs / outputs. Wave XLR have output for headphones and that's it. What about speakers? Also I have "smart speaker" (kinda like Alexa) with Aux out that I want to plug in. With GoXLR I can hook everything and then switch between speakers and headphones using Stream Deck. I can even add PS5 on top of that. With Elgato I still can't.
8:31 That gave me new ideas how to use the knob in Macos in Kombination with keyboard maestro 😁 Edit: 12:09 i also got the red colored jobs and combined them with the black 😁 just got it all as a gift for Christmas 🎅🎁🌲

@brainbah That simply isn't possible.
It can't delete backups or any files stored elsewhere on your computer outside of the stream deck folder
Why not a stream deck ULTRA XL with 64 buttons, 8 knobs, and a long touch strip along the whole thing. Knowing them they'd charge 700-1000 USD for it though.
This,
I heard a rumor about Elgato releasing a Stream Deck + with XLR input this July…would be great if this rumor becomes true next moth👍
This new Stream Deck is a GAME CHANGER!!! Love it!! & I LOVE that transition you did when explaining the foot peddle. Very creative.
You got me more hyped for this than anyone else. Thank you for explaining possibilities rather than just pure function
Tell me what you want to use the knobs for other than audio control. This is a thread for giving AND taking ideas 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
Camera brightness /focus/ exposure
To control the RGB in my room.

I came here to say the same thing - that edit was super sexy!
This
Yes, finally! Full audio control and also custom knobs for Final Cut! 😎
If Elgato is not sending you red knobs, I can 3D Print you some! 😉
The fact that it comes with wavelink mixer is HUGE! The shift hotkey is brilliant BTW!
i just bought a stream deck fuccccck bro
I'll be waiting for the XL version with 6-8 knobs more buttons and a larger display area for them :) but it's going in the right direction.

First thing I thought was it would make my GoXLR obsolete. But I think this Stream Deck is something that can just work along side it and hold hands instead of just pushing it towards the legacy equipment pile😉
Thank you Harris for always inspiring me to look forward and beyond what's obvious. You are and will always be my STREAM DOCTOR!!
I had the little stream deck in my shopping cart and switched to this because of your video. Thank you!
Are we not going to talk about that transition at 9:48? Clean!
Nice nails, nailed it 👌
First time I’ve watched a video and made the purchase instantly. Can’t wait.
Where did sam go?
Me: buys standard stream deck
Elgato: hold on, let me style on this guy real quick. *releases new stream deck*
At 8:48 I heard the baby and thought it was my baby waking up on the monitor. Freaked me out lol
Interesting! Yeah, it does looks like it could be better at multiple programs compared to the regular streamdeck. I do use the 5x3 version for a mix of photo, video, and audio editing.
Can't wait to get one! Thanks for another great video, Harris and pointing out the seemingly endless functionality.
Trimming frames hotkey with the knob! That’s amazing!!!
Looks pretty cool if your already in the Elgato ecosystem. Though it does look like a copy (same-same but different) of the LoupeDeck Live, though that has 6 knobs, 2 slider screens, 12 touch pads, and 8 buttons.
Every car manufacturer: “you don’t need buttons and knobs, you really want to take your eyes off the road for 5 mins while you navigate a bunch of touch screen menus just to change the wiper speed or aircon temp…because we think it’s cool and you want cool, don’t deny it, we are sure, in fact we know, we are right”
Elgato: “have some knobs and buttons, you can program them to do whatever you like so you don’t need to look away from the monitor for very long, if at all…because this’ll likely make things easier for you, and that’s what you want isn’t it?”
Elgato should do cars interiors, they understand how people “want” to interact with technology
You keep killing it with the intros
all i can say is bro holy shit... your amazing for one but this is the most helpful video i have ever seen and im not just talking about the fact its about what i want to know. im talking about that i have never found a video ever talk about everything you need to know about something but you didn't make it overloading and i actually remember everything you said. Thank you
Ordered it yesterday ... can't wait for it to arrive. Completely agree, this really looks like it will be the best Elgato device ever. (can't wait for the audio mixer).
So now we just need to wait for Stream Deck XL Plus?
yes
I've been looking for a useful review of this product. Thanks man. Your review helped tip my decision.
seeing this is crazy. i just got one and cant wait to use it to help me as i learn a million different things with editing.
man, I had finally just bought my first 15-button streamdeck, now I need to budget this one!
It's almost annoying how excited I am for the knobs on this thing. I used to work as an A/V tech so sound mixers are my jam lol
Love your videos and the production of them. Keep up the good work and pushing the boundaries of the status quo!!!
Looking forward to part 2 and follow up of this. I also have the XL and this really caught my eye. I also have the foot pedal and its one of the best add-ons I have for my setup when the hand are busy on the keyboard. The part 2 of this would be your testing that you mentioned with the hotkeys.
Great review video. But those different color of nail polish is distracting at times.
Much better for scrolling through a stack with more items.
ok I wasn't convinced until you mentioned the editing capabilities with the knobs, bruhh
Elgato should put daisy chaining extra usb ports on the stream decks. I got a few taking too many usbs
For someone watching this in 2024, Is this better than Baecn mix create for a casual gamer/streamer? Or is there better devices other than these two.
Have been waiting for this video for the whole day
As someone who has OCD and uses folders for my Stream Deck functions, I can see this replacing my Stream Deck + Beacn Mix Create at home. Really intrigued by the trim usage of the knob in an editing program.
So we can basically skip the GoXLR and all the other mixers, and just use this? Take any XLR mic, plug it in, and just use this for basic streaming? No need for Rode or anything?
Hope they make an XL version of that Stream Deck +.
Correct me if I'm wrong, this can act as a Wave XLR and Stream Deck in one convenient package? Eliminating the need to purchase both products separately.
Assuming you already own a microphone and a way to connect it to your setup, then you're right.
I hate having to open the software every time I wanna mess with my volume levels.
you werent kidding, this is literally the best thing elgato has ever made, literally everything is amazing
I am editing with my Hercules dj midi controller since 2015. Having knobs or jog wheels for video editing is a blast.
8:31 That gave me new ideas how to use the knob in Macos in Kombination with keyboard maestro 😁
Edit: 12:09 i also got the red colored jobs and combined them with the black 😁 just got it all as a gift for Christmas 🎅🎁🌲
