my big issues with Elgato is that their products are just expensive there are always cheaper alternatives out there which do exactly the same and the product quality is on par
Mostly just a convenience purchase. The fact that everything is on 1 app or just the stream deck (minus a few things like the acoustic panels for ex). I agree it's outrageously expensive. Being a streamer tho I understand what it's like to get EVERYTHING set up and can almost be a chore. With my stream deck I literally hit one button and I'm ready. Lights turn on, stream starts/records, specific song starts playing, mic mutes for starting soon screen etc etc.
For my panels I used spray adhesive stuff to stick foam to a thin wood layer, then just 3M velcro'd the wood to the wall. Surprised I haven't seen anyone else do this. It also doesnt ruin the wall as much either.
The weird thing with the lights is phillips hue ones are actually really well designed I don’t see why they couldn’t just modify the normal hue app a bit to make it work, even an app update
Hey Harris, I've been wanting to stream and start RUclips since last year so obviously I binged all your videos. Harris: Didn't get sleep because kids kept him awake all night. Also Harris: I have to film a RUclips video... Alright here we go... Really liked the chill attitude in this one :) Was fun!
Appreciate you Harris! And also, thanks to Kenzie for allowing all this to happen in the first place - you da real MVP. I have used acoustic foam for wall decor in my office for years - functional and looks good - but damnit Elgato I don't have the money for those things and hexagons are a foundation of my design work - must have! I am typically not one to jump at 'brand' and Elgato seems to price things a bit higher than they should be - may have to wait for the ripoff variants that will invariably follow. I've used many LED light strips and quality is definitely different the higher you get in price. Even those Phillips and GE ones you have are better than a lot of the cheaper light strips. But the cheaper ones work well for simple decor. IF you have them on stream though, looks like Elgato killed it. Never used green screen - find it too gimmicky - but I see how that mousepad is a great idea for certain streamers/creators.
For anyone who's curious (since Harris didn't mention it), the dimensions of those Wave Panels are 19.33 x 16.77 x 1.85 in (or 491 x 426 x 47 mm), so for only getting 6 panels for $99, it's a bad deal....you can get a 12 pack of 12 x 12 x 2 inch foam panels for $35. The Elgato panels would cover 1945 sq inches with 1.85 inch thick foam, vs the off-brand covering 1728 sq inches with 2 inch thick foam for a third of the price....need more? Get two 12-packs, then you're up to 3456 sq inches of coverage and still saving $30 over the Elgato panels (well, maybe $20 if you have to buy adhesive and/or tape to mount the panels).
I might actually pick up some of those panels later down the line when money is a little more stable. I feel like for $100, 6 panels isn't really enough.
The flickering is the HZ of the power to your local area, for example the reason we record in 25fps because the power delivery is running at 50HZ. Each light is designed for different locations.
I have the C by GE bulbs for my house. Just recently got the RGB color change bulbs. I use them as my rear kicker light bulb, I use a standard c by ge bulb with the warm/cool feature as my keylight using a reflector clip I bought at the hardware store.. works great with my alexa dot to control them both :)
I still love wiz. If you use the bulbs as flood lights, you're on the mains so there's no flicker. The app is a mess even for smart environment purposes, but you can automate some incredible things into them with third party applications. You can make them change colour or even programs in animations when someone subscribes.
The best strategy for mounting acoustic panels on the wall is to use 3M command picture tabs. You can hang foam on the wall with just one or two of them per foam panel and it sticks great, and can be removed from the wall without issue if ever you need to move etc.
the acoustic panel mounting setup looks really well thought out - hanging acoustic panels really sucks and the few times i've had to do it, I took a similar tact to the way elgato does it and that's basically mounting a hard frame to the panels and then mounting that frame to the wall (rather than futzing with double sided tape, however, I typically go with 3m picture hanging strips (they use super strong adhesive that removes cleanly and non-marringly but hold like 3lb per strip (I hung my giant white board and mirrors and stuff with it, it's great), and it uses this easy remove interface that's kind of like velcro on crack so you can easily temporarily remove things and put them back just by pressing them back into place...) - to frame them, I usually just get some plastic or wood edging from the hardware store for cheap (even better if they have appropriate sized off-cuts, you can sometimes even get the edging for free) and then i hot glue the edging to the panels. While I probably wouldn't use the light strips myself (that's just a me preference), elgato's do appear to be high quality, and I like that they've thought about their ecosystem... my curiosity is if you can control them from OUTSIDE their app ecosystem though. (I prefer touchportal to streamdeck and i'm sure a lot of other folks do too because it's more configurable and doesn't require you to spend a mint on a specialized control surface) so I wonder if there's a user-accessable api or method of hot-key macro control for them... as i said, they're kind of lost on me as i'm not into the whole rgb strip thing, but I'd like to see a cohesive solution for people who are. I don't know what they're charging for the green mousepad, but knowing elgato it's probably overpriced... honestly, if I wanted to do a hand camera in that way, I'd probably just pick up a green tablecloth or even a proper small green screen and just put it on my desk like a tablecloth, but to each their own, and i'm not going to say no to more options.
Well that makes only 2 brands I'd recommend now. Now Spinning Records has colored hex panels with full adhesive backing @0.5 absorption and add on wood panels with cool designs. ^I'd recommend these for around your desk because you can mix and match with your desk style. Elgato looks to have come out with a good solution for when you want big panels, I think these would be especially good if you're trying to quiet down a large room with big waves.
Gluing the panels to a plywood sheet and then hanging the sheet on your wall is the easiest (and cheapest) and good looking solution for not having to glue panels to your wall. Elgato's solution works too, but it's more expensive than what you pay for professional grade, removeable and flexible 10 cm thick foam in a wooden/canvas frame from the likes of Hofa or Vicoustic.
I chose to use/test the LED Strips from "Govee" for cheap price and app design, can be better like anything else. Not a fan of the Green Mouse pad. Acoustic foam look great, but all new product look the same shape (HEXAGON) .... I still prefer rectangular "Professional looking" pannel, but you need to build your own DIY, unless you got money to buy pro gear 🤘 I hope to see a video on the acoustic pannel in the futur for the result !! 👍

The problem with a company making a lot of things with little competition is inflated pricing. The multi-mount could be waaaaaaayyy cheaper. I've bought some equivalents with just as solid construction for a quarter of the price.
$30 for that large mouse pad is actually really reasonable, I could get behind that. I feel like $100 for the foam is definitely more for the design aesthetic than the actual foam because normal studio foam panels are definitely much cheaper for the equivalent amount. And of course, the RGB LEDs are showing the classic RGB issue of flat, clipped, inaccurate colors, especially when set to red, you have a hot yellow center. Of course, if you need your lights to be able to change color, that's a use case for them, it just won't look anywhere near as clean as color gels on white light. This is one of those cases where you could justify the cost though because the control and flexibility does actually seem worth it in this case. My only question is the CRI.
Probably Unpopular opinion: With the general lighting used for a stream, majority of cases won't use a high shutter speed thus the light flickering wouldn't be an issue. Of course when you set your shutter speed high and point it directly at the strip it'll look bad, but yeah just my 2 cents lol
I started my youtube channel because I watched your channel and you actually motivated me to start my channel. I hesitated for years to be front since 2008 ever since I saw KSI for the first time. And every year I felt bad because I felt like I can bring something new to the Dutch RUclips market. Although I know my video's are not perfect I know what I am doing wrong :) First off I need to fix my lighting but because I became redundant I don't have the money for it at the moment, so I am looking for a job and I wish to better myself. I know I need to work on my lighting, have a better mic or atleast better settings my main issues are noise. I have 2 parakeets which I cannot take out of my room otherwise I need to give them away (mum rules lol). I have noise reduction settings on OBS they sleep at night hence why I usually make video's around that time and I know u are probably thinking mate you don't have many video's and that's true because I went on a emergency visit to my family hence why I didn't have time. But my little bit of viewers I have know this. I want to fix my lighting buy good lighting and in the future fix my audio and learn new ways to edit my video's better :) Hope you read this and if so I appreciate it for your time thanks sir! :)
I've been looking for a great light strip for several months now so needless to say I'm STOKED to get the Elgato light strips! Thanks per usual for the incredible helpful content!
The strip lights are pretty decently priced especially for a desk setup, to where as I’d rather use Hue light strips elsewhere. The sound panels seem pretty confusing as you drill a mount into the wall and attach the panel to the mount? Not sure how useful that is if you can’t drill into the walls.
$99 seems excessive for a small stack of those panels, although they look nice and the brackets are convenient. What do you think? Worth it to not have egg cartons or the peaky basic sound treatment foam (that still tends to be expensive)?
I'm pretty sure those panels are useless for actual production. They would only absorb some high frequencies. They look neato. So $99 for decoration isn't bad. Wish you could get them in other colors or in white. I like that they have the bracket that looks like it provides somewhat of an air gap from the wall.
I recently got Govee Bluetooth LED Bulbs. I think,. I'm probably getting their LED strips for my monitors and display case. They also have other cool things. Maybe test Govee out and see how you like them.
You should look into a thing called a DIG-UNO. For the price you pay with these, I can get a controller, power and ADDRESSABLE LEDs and create shows using a program called WLED. Fun fact also, you can sync them to a philips hue bridge. I get it though. You pay for convience and simplicity.. not mad about it and love everything by Elgato
How has this flicker issue actually been okay for as long as it has... it's always been a deal breaker. Anyone who uses a real camera knows this issue inside and out. Thankfully someone has finally addressed this.

The problem with a company making a lot of things with little competition is inflated pricing. The multi-mount could be waaaaaaayyy cheaper. I've bought some equivalents with just as solid construction for a quarter of the price.
This charisma on Alpha Villain!!!! I want more!
My only question is the CRI.
these Elgato products are great, the dark foam fits my wall behind my monitors perfectly
The Philips Hue indoor strip works great. Super easy setup, using Bluetooth w/the App.
Elgato Executive: How much money can we burn making sound panels that absorb very little sound
Other Elgato Executive: Yes!!!
I feel like the mousepad will be very popular amongst those handcam minecraft drag clickers
Probably Unpopular opinion: With the general lighting used for a stream, majority of cases won't use a high shutter speed thus the light flickering wouldn't be an issue. Of course when you set your shutter speed high and point it directly at the strip it'll look bad, but yeah just my 2 cents lol
Good to know to stay away from Phillips and GE strip LED lights. Useful information! Thanks Harris!
I want to fix my lighting buy good lighting and in the future fix my audio and learn new ways to edit my video's better :)
Hope you read this and if so I appreciate it for your time thanks sir! :)
I don't know why but it's so satisfying seeing that Harris posted a new video
Yeah I am probably going to pick up some of those panels for sure
That green screen mouse pad is probably lowkey a game changer for the TCG streamers and phone reviewers
I've also gorilla glued double sided tape to acoustic panels in the past 🤣
I've been looking for a great light strip for several months now so needless to say I'm STOKED to get the Elgato light strips! Thanks per usual for the incredible helpful content!
Still waiting for them multi mounts to come in stock :(
great vid mate !! keep it up - road to 600k train
The green mousepad is so simple, yet absolutely 5Head. It doesn't do anything for me personally, but I can see this being a total gamechanger for many
Those sound dampeners look cool. Thanks for the video.
The strip lights are pretty decently priced especially for a desk setup, to where as I’d rather use Hue light strips elsewhere. The sound panels seem pretty confusing as you drill a mount into the wall and attach the panel to the mount? Not sure how useful that is if you can’t drill into the walls.
I have just been looking at purchasing the Eve RGB lights. Glad I waited!
Harris opens mystical box, causes a timelord to regenerate. Good one xD
Has Harris done a video on Acoustic and sound proofing panels in general? Like, how tos, dos and don'ts?
starting to have a thing for Elgato.. finally got my hands on a streamdeck xl and I'm in love! I got it setup within a few mins.
Lmao "strip lights" like... For when you strip?
@5:11 🤣 works with what now? Thanks for the awesome video
02:20 Well .. I nailed mine to the wall. Not a perfect solution, but they stay on the wall and that's everything I wanted ^^
Oh shit, villain origin stories are usually better than the hero's - i'm hooked! haha :)
It’s nice to see some items being affordable. The panels are nice but I wonder if 6 is enough.
I plan on rocking all of the Elgato products when I set up my streaming set-up
How has this flicker issue actually been okay for as long as it has... it's always been a deal breaker. Anyone who uses a real camera knows this issue inside and out. Thankfully someone has finally addressed this.
I always knew who was the REAL brains behind the operation
Thanks to your videos I bought the Elgato wave 1 and it’s such a good price for the mic so thanks for that 💜
I totally believe Kenzie is the belt holding up Alpha’s pants
Nice I’ve actually wondered how people put the acoustic panels on the wall
