Thank you for featuring my setup and for the advice! For the mounting I used a combination of elgato multimount pieces and a outdoor company called tackform that makes bar mounts + large form tablet mounts.
You should definitely make this kind of videos a series - great mix of entertainment, getting some new ideas for our own setup & helpful tipps at the same time!
Phenomenal video. Honestly went into it thinking "Great another setup video." I was impressed by the innovation shown by both the participants and you Harris. You more than most realize things get stale. I am here for all the innovative, art, irl, just chatting, science and tech, music, etc. streams.
This one was by far the best video you've made. When you left the room, I about fell out of my chair from laughing. I would love for you to judge my stream. However, I know my stream setup isn't the best. Trying to make changes as I can. I believe these videos really going to be a "hit" for you channel! Again, thanks for all that you do!
Two years later and the critical information your provide here is still relevant. Was having issues with my camera and realized it was the orientation. Move it to a portrait oriented fixed my issues.
You have been a big inspiration to start streaming with my son. I have learned a lot from you, please continuing creating content, this channel will have millions of subs soon
yeah haha. I know its probably just a joke but bleh cats are pretty great when treated right. made me sad to hear him say that as my cat chills with me watching the video :
Living your content Harris. I have just discovered your YT channel when I decided I wanted to start streaming last week. I've used your guidance on selecting a camera, lighting, using OBS and making RUclips content. I've only been up streaming for 4 days and already have a max of 9 people watching and 13 followers. I've just downloaded DaVinci for video editing, and I think that'll be my biggest learning curve. I want to thank you for all the tip and tricks you've taught me so far, and I really hope I can go the full mile!
Love this series. We are in the process of building a new home and I have cut out a dedicated room for streaming/office and there great ideas and advice for my future project. Ppl love seeing setups, great series
The tip you gave to the first guy about lowering the camera to maintain the background was a game changer. Just another of the million ways this channel has improved my stream. Thanks again for the prescription Doc!
That was unexpectedly helpful! I'm just doing my research for getting into streaming but was getting down as I thought nobody was covering top-down tutorial type streaming set-ups... BUT to my surprise you cover TWO 'art' setups for top-down recording. Thank you so much ! :) I'm a happy bunny.

Sorry about my english, but i feel need to tell that i like a picture u are making. So charizmatic and helpfull content. You just got your strong side and work with it. Big real Russian respect to you bro. Same as you i was trying to make a deal with music. But then i became a senior-motion-designer. That first one...the bottom monitor...that's actually BRILLIANT. It looks like a touchscreen. How many times have we all touched our monitor, desktop or non-touch laptop, out of habit and been like, "aww..."? I know I definitely have! having a monitor like that, low down, within reach would be SUPER handy sometimes. Brilliant! *Heads over to amazon...
Hey Harris, I'm relatively new to streaming. I'm making changes every stream in how I interact and what tech advances/changes I can justify spending. Being a musician/songwriter I wish you'd do a "stream setup" breakdown on some of the singers/musicians/artists you've encoutered that you like. Thanks for your help. -Lee
I gotta say it, your channel is so helpful, entertaining, and well designed! I’ve pretty much been watching mostly your content for the past week or so (just started streaming on twitch) and have gotten a ton of value from it! I hope that one day you can judge my setup too! That would be so dope!
Alpha Gaming. Thanks for your fantastic content you make im becoming a massive fan of your's. Reason why i say that is because the other day i was on youtube searching content about the snowball microphone then i stumbled upon your content and really started seeing your content and after awhile i noticed this is great content i want to be a supporter of this channel plus im also starting my day off right with a fresh new dose of Alpha Gaming content. Once again thanks so much for decide on the snowball microphone. Alpha Gaming is the best at what he does
just wanted to tell you that your channel is amazing! it has been a ton of help to me as a new streamer on 2 platforms now, and i cant wait to build up more and set up my channels for success. thanks for all the great content you put out! one day i hope to build my friend base and group like you have!!! Og gamer here and decided, hey, why not stream while playing just to see where it takes me and im hooked!
I cant even count how many times teyha types stream has put me to sleep. Not in a bad way but its so calm and soothing it makes for a great stream before bed.
I don't know if you'll see this, but thank you for all of your tutorial videos. I have a basic setup with a laptop and I am currently working on youtube content and will be streaming on that platform and Facebook as well. Hopefully my stuff will be different and unique to garner some attention.
Harris, any chance you could provide links to the folks whose setups you critique in the description for these? It would be nice to see the setups in action, and watch to see if they incorporate any of the advice you give (and if so, the difference it makes).
I’d love to see a theme for unconventional stream setups, perhaps for disabled streamers that can’t do the traditional “stream at a desk and chair” thing, or for people who do something else just because.
Headroom rule of thumb from an interview videographer: Similar to measuring liquor in a tumbler glass, use your fingers on top of your head to measure. Bottom finger goes on top of your head and the top finger should just barely touch the top of your frame. one finger for a full close-up, two fingers for a medium close-up (the most popular I see for streaming), and three for a medium-wide.
Btw, the reason you don't see many of the BMPCC is because they overheated sometimes, and the HDMI port breaks off. Still have mine, but can't external the image at all due to missing hdmi port.
My streaming setup is bodgy as hell but ya know what? It’s what I’ve got to work with and it’s not gonna stop me, especially since I’m just starting out
Harris, I would be interested to see an ideal light setup for use with two people on cam. Same idea, or does that create weird shadows because of angles?
9:35 - it isn't minimal, but I see the minimal style. Maybe I should say monochromatic. Either way, I so dig this. The backdrop stand with stuff mounted on it... sexy. Im such a a tech head.
Finally, hammering home the point about the "too much headroom" for streamers. The headroom thing has drove me insane for the longest time and makes some streams unwatchable. If people are worried about how they look when they bring the camera physically down, you can either move the camera closer or use a longer focal length. It'll make your webcam look significantly more appealing. Also, want better lights? GVM, Dracast, Neewer, Viltrox, all have way cheaper bi-color LED panels that have more output and features than they Elgato lights. The only thing Elgato lights give you that others don't is software/hardware integration with their other products.
I would love for you to preview smaller streamers setups cus those are usually the ones that can use advice/suggestions. Maybe people with 500 followers or less.
You use one vertical 3 monitor stand and one horizontal 3 monitor stand. Combine them together on one base to give you mounts for 3 vertical displays and then the two vesa mounts from the horizontal mount that are sticking out on each side will hold the speakers. He's made some other type of brackets for his switches.
Ever since harris replied to my tweet about becoming affiliate i've been ecstatic, once I've got a god-tier setup I hope I can get him to judge mine as well haha

Awesome Video Harris and Sam because you know gotta credit the editor. In this video you mention to the last set up about courses to invest there money in instead of Key lights which I agree on fully with her setup. However what courses would you recommend? Maybe a video idea there.
I'm not an expert at all but the headroom is the first thing I noticed on the first one... I guess that's because of working on the Worship Production team at my church (so we deal with headroom a lot haha). Great video.
