      The tip on why you shouldn't use restream.io was the one that grabbed my attention the most. I actually just signed up for it thinking it would help me broadcast to more potential viewers! One small thing to note - they have a multi-platform chat you can overlay on your stream. That way you aren't guilty of talking about things that viewers on other platforms don't understand the context. Also, there's a chat bot that will relay your chat to each platform.
      Given these, does your opinion change on restream.io, or should a creator stick to a single platform still?

      I struggled with self worth since I left school and only recently started going that extra yard to show what kind of person I am to the world and Twitch is allowing me to do that. I stream most days and when a viewer types a message in chat it gives me a buzz but I often do question am I a good enough streamer that they want to stick around?
      When you are first starting off it is hard but like a lot of streamers say is just have fun and be yourself. This sticks with me when I stream because you (me) are the entertainer, its your show and if people like it they will stick around and watch you play.
      Best of luck for anyone starting on Twitch or RUclips!

    Gotta say, great video and great information. I'm an up and coming small streamer and these "do's and don'ts" are really gonna help me improve the viewing experience. The most interesting don't was "don't follow for follow". I have been doing this for some time and you're absolutely right, it doesn't get you noticed or any more viewers.
    The most interesting do was to create a personal brand. I have been a member of an esports org for the last near 6 months. I have been so concentrated on supporting the org using my channel that I haven't even thought of becoming an individual through the org support.

    Hey man, big fan of your work but one thing I wish to comment on.
    I grew to 100 thousand subscribers on RUclips before beginning to multi-stream on both RUclips and Twitch. I can personally say once you have an established audience on one platform, multi-streaming is very good IF you continue to interact with both chats.
    I stream on both RUclips and Twitch, but agree that you should not multi-stream right from the start. Only with an established audience to give them the choice between platforms.

    I'd like to share my 2 cents on using Restream.
    TL;DR I used Restream for a few months to transition my existing audience on RUclips to Twitch.
    I grew my audience on YT first and for many years I only streamed on YT. I recently decided that I wanted to migrate to Twitch as YT is didn't feel like it was a great platform for streaming games so for about 2 months I used Restream to dual stream to Twitch and slowly build my audience there. At the end of 2018 I exceeded the metrics criteria and became a Twitch affiliate at which point I stopped streaming on YT.
    I also asked my audience if they were okay with me uploading 3-4hr long recorded VODs to my channel or if I should create a 2nd channel only for streams and the consensus was that they preferred everything to remain in one channel. Obviously the audience retention on uber-long videos is much smaller than on my regular 15-20min ones but it doesn't seem to have hurt my channel too much, if anything, it's even higher than before when considering view count/monetization.
    Edit: I don't think what you said about Restream is necessarily wrong, I think it actually makes sense. I just wanted to share this niche case of mine where it yielded decent results.

    • @LaurentGuerard
      @LaurentGuerard 5 лет назад +7

      I'm also using Restream for a couple of months (ok I don't have more than 5 viewers all platforms included at once). I get the point that it might look like needy/greedy to broadcast on multiple platforms like that, but since the Restream Chat allows reposting to the other channels, I actually find it nice to allow people from those multiple channels to interact together. Restream is actually a well thought platform IMO. :)

    • @YaNeK92
      @YaNeK92 4 года назад +1

      The tip to stop using ReStream kinda hit me hard since I was really looking forward to start using it.. In my humble opinion, I thought to myself that by using it, I will able to reach people who may be unfamiliar with Twitch, and they can watch by using a familiar platform to them, like Facebook and RUclips which they know and trust. That was my whole process behind it (just to connect with people and grow the community).
      Also another important point worth mentioning is that if Twitch would go under tomorrow for any reason or you lose your account or anything, then the asset you've been building there is gone. That is also another reason why I thought that by building the community across multiple platforms and streaming to the would be beneficial.
      I might have to talk to someone who actually works for Restream and listen to what they have to say.
      The conflict of interest when streaming to Twitch and RUclips at the same time is really annoying :/

    Here's a summary for those who may have trouble retaining all the information from the video :) (i also just love lists lol)
    1. Treat yourself like a professional streamer worthy of many views (but don't feel like the world owes you views)
    2. Do pick a game that will help you grow. Don't pick a game based on the number of people watching it
    3. Do start a RUclips channel. Don't take clips from Twitch and upload to RUclips
    4. Do use multiple platforms and engage in all of them. Don't use restream.io
    5. Do remind people to follow/sub on Twitch. Don't beg for it.
    6. Do have a solid logo and brand design. Don't make the logo your profile picture (your face should be the profile picture).
    7. Do make a stream schedule. Don't stream every day.
    8. Do create a personal brand that is marketable for companies to sponsor you. Don't sign-up with just any sponsor, especially if you have less than 30 views.
    9. Do invest in equipment that makes your stream more fun for people to watch. Don't invest in equipment that is only enjoyable for you.
    10. Do become a part of a community. Don't spam your content in someone else's community and don't do f4f.

    I gotta say, I had a clothing company affiliate hit me up when I first went to Twitch Affiliate, and I thought it would've been a good idea. I then had a couple people buy with my links and it took 2 months for them to rectify the fact they didn't pay me my "commissions" (quotes because it was really a garbage deal).
    I had an ad on my stream, I plugged them in my twitter/instagram/facebook, I talked about them on stream... I got virtually nothing but one good contact out of it from another streamer in the same boat as me.
    A couple months ago I started reevaluating my stream and Marie Kondo'd that shit. They did nothing for me, brought me no joy. Hell, the clothing wasn't even of high quality... I ditched them without a word and have felt better about my personal brand because of it.
    Hearing you say this just reaffirmed my beliefs.
    Also, that Follow for Follow stuff sounds great at first when you're grinding for affiliate, but holy crap is it shallow. I purged so many people from social media that I followed due to that rule, and I now feel like I'm talking to my peers and friends instead of bots RTing off of hashtags.... also, lose the hashtags from twitter where you can, people just see spam when you're throwing that many at them

    • @Kaiberus

      if you're looking for a place that gives you pretty good quality clothing and pretty good deals aswel, i'd suggest looking at into the am (they support streamers and content creators any size) and their clothings are pretty cool looking, i'm a small streamer who has had a couple of friends buy something (you can use your own code aswel btw) and in total i think i made like 400 dollars and spent about 180 dollars myself

    I like most of what you said but I have to disagree with the restream statement. It’s allowed me to reach more people and establish myself a little differently in that I’m not dependent on certain platform. It also gives my viewers more options because yt works better on phones while twitch looks nicer on pc. I don’t think it comes off as Desperate anymore than seeing a twitch affiliate is. Lastly, the chats can be relayed other channels can see what’s being talked about.

    I have to disagree somewhat with the restream advice. We started the channel from nothing, no success on other platforms literally from zero, so we restreamed on RUclips and twitch, we gained a lot of followers on RUclips that if we had focused only on twitch we never would have found. We make videos here on RUclips that have nothing to do with streaming and that helps with growth but even with plugging our twitch on every video it hasn’t helped too much. I think this video is good, however I think if you’re starting from nothing you should try to hustle and find an audience where you can.

    • @hypehorizen
      @hypehorizen 5 лет назад +6

      I agree with both of you on this, if that's possible. I'm currently trying streaming to Facebook Gaming (very far behind Twitch) and Twitch. I put the chat box on the left side so viewers can see each others comments. Without that box, I think Harris is right. I can see your side as well. If you can pull in viewers from other sites and then theygo to Twitch and view you there instead then it's all good, but if they don't come over, that defeats its purpose. Sadly, I kind of feel like no other platforms are worth streaming to except for Twitch and maybe Facebook Gaming.

    • @WickedGoodEverything
      @WickedGoodEverything 5 лет назад +5

      VengaDragon I can see where you’re coming from, at a certain point we’ll have to decide which platform to stream to exclusively and if the growth is steady on RUclips but sporadic on twitch it’s tough to pull the trigger and jump over to twitch all together.

    • @deadpixel
      @deadpixel 5 лет назад +4

      Yup, I agree with you completely on this. Using restream.io isn't projecting an image of I'm desperate. It's showing you have a drive to grow and reach a wider audience. We did that as well and our youtube blew up thanks to it. Using restream's chat to put on stream so both platforms chats from youtube and twitch were displayed on stream. It was great because a lot of times you'd find twitch people talking to youtube people and vise versa. They would just wait for it to pop up on stream and reply. In the best case they would also hop over to our youtube channel or twitch channel and follow there to continue the conversation. Sadly once we did become affiliated we did need to stop that as there is the exclusivity clause within Twitch's agreement. So some followed us over after an announcement video and some stayed only on youtube.

      I am interested to discuss this a bit further. I am a new streamer on Twitch and not yet an Affiliate. So for the first time last night I used Restream to stream to both Twitch and Mixer. I have the chat sorted so that isn't an issue, but a couple of things did concern me and I am wondering how others have dealt with them.
      Firstly streaming to more then one platform, especially in your early days, feels to me right now like it is going to spread you awfully thin. You have multiple platforms you now need to engage with. For example your networking now needs to be spread out across different platforms, so you may have doubled the time you need to devote to that aspect of streaming. Rather then just watching Twitch streams and engaging with Twitch Communities I now need to do that for Mixer as well.
      Secondly there are more technical complexities to deal with in setting things up on different platforms. Chat bots, loyalty schemes, emotes, raiding etc. That adds a bit more time as well.
      Thirdly is their a risk that due to the differences in platforms there can be other differences between parts of your audience, such as emotes, sparks etc? If so how hard is that to manage? Do people on one platform feel left out?
      I am interested in how folks here who have been restreaming to multiple platforms have found these points affect them, if at all?
      I am planning to continue for a bit. But right now am wondering if my time is better spent getting RUclips VoDs and a Blog sorted out and then coming back to Restream.

I don't have on on-screen sub goal or verbally remind people to subscribe really ever, because I don't want pressure people or seem greedy.
