FWD is not a big deal, honda does FWD better than many do AWD. Manual is worth celebrating! Could avoid turbo with a design that uses a big battery and sizable motor. Added option to easily convert it to full EV later.

Congrats on the having a new son on the way! It seems like weird product in a way. A small niche of the market and quite expensive to develop. They must have a large electric motor for the Honda hybrid system to make sense in a sports coupe I think.
I would be excited if this was being sold with pricing near the Civic. Priced there it could be everything from the average person's, who doesn't need or doesn't want 4 doors, daily commuter to a fun second car to a semi-halo car for Honda (2 door Type R-ish). I expect this will most likely be closer in pricing to the BMW 2 series, especially if it is sold only as an Acura, and then we will get those sweet, sweet dealer markups making it unaffordable for the vast majority of buyers. Later, when it is cancelled in one or two product cycles, everyone will wonder why.
I will believe it when i see it. This is probably a successor to the civic coupe though.. strange to think Honda pulled out of the coupe market and allow toyota to eat up the entry level market. Honda only really has the type R at this point. I still think Toyota has really gone forward with providing the market with sports car and sporty vehicles with their GR brand. Yeah, like a Celica back in the day. I think people loved the Prelude - especially if you HAD another Honda in the past. It was reachable as a "next step up" or if say you had gotten to the point in life where your debt is low and your cashflow as room to get a leg up on whatever you feel you would like to improve.
I bought a brand new 1992 Prelude SR 2.3L 160 hp and drove it for 9 years with regular maintenance and without any major problems. It was a great car! I'll buy it again if the price starts below 40K, and there is no CVT.
I loved, and still do, the Honda Prelude line (gen 2, 3 and 5). The last gen was my favorite as the design is so elegant and timeless. The engine made good power at 200hps at the time, but in my opinion, it was priced less competitively than the Acura Integra GSR that makes 170hps and probably handles corners better. The puzzling thing about the gen 4 and 5 Prelude for me was why it wasn't rear wheel drive. With the long hood design that could fit the engine longitudinally and the non-existing back seat space that could allow for the differential in the back, it actually would make more sense to be RWD than FWD. If it was RWD, the pricing would have made sense too. With the 6th gen, I don't understand why at this day and age Honda is reviving a model with a hybrid. I think it may be better off being a full EV, and be a RWD.
I miss my accord 5 spd manual coupe, one of the best cars I ever owned. CVT sucks in a coupe. Briefly owned a Civic SI with a six speed, wasn’t the same and actually hated it. I know they will never offer a manual transmission but we can dream.
I'm really eager to know more about what performance will look like for the production model. I'm expecting to be disappointed, but I so very badly want to be pleasantly surprised. Honda already said that it won't be the "fastest or zippiest car at a circuit" which is fine, I don't think it needs to be... but it can't just be ~204hp like the current Accord hybrid. I feel like that'll kill so much hype for this car. It'll kill mine, anyway.
Honda used to have a coupe version of its line up in the 80s and 90s. I’m surprised they’ve been so slow to launch a new prelude. I’ve always had coupes and I miss the choices buyers once had. I like it a lot but it doesn’t remind me of a Prelude.
PLEASE MAKE THIS CAR: Coupe as a Honda or Acura would be great to have, better as an Acura for the nicer interior. Hybrid with a 6 speed please. You did it with the CRZ
I love the look! OK here is the run down of what it needs for me to buy one. At least 250hp turbo hybrid, 35 to 40 mpg's city, LSD from the Si, CVT with fake gears and option to drive in full EV mode. $39,000 SOLD!
That’s a beauty. I would totally buy that. So many car companies are making cars that like crappola today (cough, BMW… cough. LEXUS…). This looks great
The next gen Civic will be out by then when the Prelude arrives. Whenever the 12th gen Civic, Civic Si, and 7th gen Civic Type R come out, the Prelude will likely have the 12th gen Civic infotainment setup. A manual transmission turbo hybrid Prelude would be sick. They could have a Prelude Si with the 1.5T + mild hybrid and a Prelude Si-R with the 2.0T + mild hybrid that slots in between the Civic Si and Civic Type R performance. Now, all Preludes have been FWD, but if there were to be a RWD Prelude, then they could call it the Prelude 2000 to honor the S2000 with the Prelude name badge and go balls to the wall.
My demands: same awd and hybrid setup of nsx, obviously reduced in power and torque (250hp and 400Nm), improved cvt with gears simulation, aws, separated multiple settings for engine, brakes, susoensions, transmission, steer, esp, torque vectoring, tcs and sound (like ioniq5 n). Then I AM IN

I’m hoping they can copy and paste the previous NSX tech but obviously in reverse. Fwd with electric motor on the rear axle giving it an SH-Awd 1.5t with around 230-280hp. Most likely won’t have a manual but someone shot the interior real close and it looked like an RDX type interior
Honestly a 220 hp car this light and with the hybrid torque would be insanely fun to drive. My old SH was a rocket and I think had 197 - 203 hp and not much torque.
I wonder if this will spark more interest in the 2-door coupe segment. I would snatch a next-gen Mazda MX-6 off the showroom floor before the paint dried.
The front of the car definitely has elements of Toyota's new design language but the overall shape of the car kinda looks like a Porsche or a final generation Mitsubishi Eclipse (and not the crappy ugly crossover). But to answer your question, I don't think I could choose between this and a Civic Type R. The Type R allows for more practical use if you have a family, this being a two door coupe doesn't. So if I was getting this, I'd probably also get a base model Civic or a CRV or something as my daily driver as well.
The Prelude doesn’t need to be a track car, but it needs to have more power and tech as well as be slotted higher than the Civic and Integra. 0-60 under 5!seconds. Quarter mile time in the mid 14’s or better. I don’t think that’s an unrealistic demand list.
Rest of the car is fantastic but think the front end is a big miss. Nevermind the odd proportions of the DRLs. The only thing it should be reminiscent of is past models not an entirely different brand in Toyota. Revamp for the production model and Honda is golden on this
If it's somewhat comparable to the GT-86, I think Honda will be in good shape. Make a simple car that's fun to drive. Don't weigh it down with too many gadgets that take away from the core experience of enjoying the activity of driving. It doesn't need to make 300HP to be a fun car.
I was pissed Honda and Acura killed all their 2 door coupes s2000 civic accord crz del soul insight cl legend rsx Integra nsx and almost all of their manuals even VW golf r and GTI killed the manual and Corvette with manual take rates of 40 to 50 percent😮
3:39 Keep my expectations high? I want: The L15BE with a boosted version (Si) with a dual motor hybrid drivetrain driving the rear wheels. Put the manual in there as an option and don't tell me you cant do that. Its BS. You can i know enough about engineering.
6:05 *GASP* Oh my... Would a 300hp Prelude not step on the toes of the Civic R? Unless you just wanna add a coupe to the gate which I'm not mad about at all. So is the 300ps the Type R Prelude? Si? What would the base be? Or is there a even more powerful Type R on the horizon? Dun dun duuuuun
I really want to see the return of affordable sports coupes. WHy are only very high end, expensive sports coupes available today? Anyway - Honda make that baby :) ALso make it an ICE powered car - not a heavy vacuum cleaner :)
Alot of questions on how a hybrid manual works. I don't think the gasoline engine ever stops if it's manual? Your certainly not trying to Rev only the electric motor. However it works I'm very interested. Because a automatic prelude sounds like a joy kill. I would never buy a new vette being an auto, and I certainly wouldn't buy a Japanese sports car that's automatic.
A 2.0L naturally asiprated engine + 1 electric motor most likely is not going to get 300 hp; 210 hp the most. FYI, Toyota's new 2025 Camry has 2.5L + electric motor with a total output of only 225.

so will the production model look more similar to the one shown at auto show or the render on the website you looked at?
the one at the auto show

Honestly a 220 hp car this light and with the hybrid torque would be insanely fun to drive. My old SH was a rocket and I think had 197 - 203 hp and not much torque.
It needs to be at least 300 HP or at least have a Type R version
It might go up with the BRZ. A Type R would probably warrant 300+ BHP.
Coupe !
Powertrain from Accord touring plus hybrid and leather . Gotta replace my 17 Accord Touring Coupe V6 sometime , and I don't want four doors!
I wonder if this will spark more interest in the 2-door coupe segment. I would snatch a next-gen Mazda MX-6 off the showroom floor before the paint dried.
Kirk did you see the teaser for the CES 2024 Honda EV? It looks like another sports model
Oh wow ! Congrats on a baby boy !
If it's easier to get in and out compared to the 86 twins it will sell like fire 🔥🚒
Can’t wait to see what happens with the Prelude
The front of the car definitely has elements of Toyota's new design language but the overall shape of the car kinda looks like a Porsche or a final generation Mitsubishi Eclipse (and not the crappy ugly crossover).
But to answer your question, I don't think I could choose between this and a Civic Type R. The Type R allows for more practical use if you have a family, this being a two door coupe doesn't. So if I was getting this, I'd probably also get a base model Civic or a CRV or something as my daily driver as well.
I think there should be a sister car, Mitsubishi needs a 2 door so it would be good to do it with them.
@@fortheloveofnoise That would be a great idea but it seems to me like Mitsubishi no longer cares about making performance cars.
Huh it looks exactly the accord coupe
A coupe these days 😆 I’ll take whatever I can get 😍 awd would be amazing
If this is RWD. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
As much as i love the idea of an awd prelude, 300 for fwd is pushing it.
PS= Pferdestärken (german word) HP= Horsepower (english) so just a translation it s the same
The Prelude doesn’t need to be a track car, but it needs to have more power and tech as well as be slotted higher than the Civic and Integra.
Any news on the RC successor ?
I'm sure if there's going to be a next gen RC, the GR86 will ride on that platform too.
I was pissed Honda and Acura killed all their 2 door coupes s2000 civic accord crz del soul insight cl legend rsx Integra nsx and almost all of their manuals even VW golf r and GTI killed the manual and Corvette with manual take rates of 40 to 50 percent😮
They discontinued Accord 2.0T to reserve the Engine for this, i guess. Or even 1.5T HO sport hybrid is yumyum
Yes i want the coupe 2-door. There are too many 4-doors, this could replace both the accord coupe and civic coupe both of which are no longer around.
Please Honda! Please make the prelude!
I would go with a CTR over this. However, I want the CRX to come back.
They really should make a cabriolet variant and call it a S2000
That would be terrible
All the people complaining about lack of AWD/RWD, bruh
FWD is Hondas thing
It’s their identity
Power wise be 250-300hp SHAWD, 4WS!!! Muahaha WHAT you said expectations high.
Prelude > Civic R. Mostly love the coupe design. Gives off some Nissan Z vibes.
I own 4th gen and 5th gen prelude I hope they make and build this in japan. 🇯🇵. Not marysville ohio.
I want the Acura CL to come back‼️
Civic Si levels of power with extra torque from electric motor would be nice. it has to keep the manual though
I really want to see the return of affordable sports coupes. WHy are only very high end, expensive sports coupes available today? Anyway - Honda make that baby :) ALso make it an ICE powered car - not a heavy vacuum cleaner :)
Congratulations 🎉🎉
reminds me of that old lotus esprit concept from 2014
Am I the only one who thinks that art render looks 10000% better than the actual concept?
I would like to see more coupes like this and a Mazda RX. Even better at a base of $40K. To me in different ways the Z and Supra are disappointments.
….lord please oh please let this have a manual transmission!!!
I would prefer that Honda produce the E-sport concept as the new Insight. then a EV Civic Del Sol or S2000 successor.
It’s a Prelude - bring back 4 wheel steering at least!
Acura should’ve made this the new Integra type s coupe.
I preferred type r motor AWD
1. It has to have a sunroof. 2. It has to have manual as option. 3. It has to have an LSD!
Sorry between the type r and the prelude I’ll be picking the prelude.
Why are you even comparing the 2? They're 2 different cars
Only remotely interested if Honda uses the hybrid drive as performance enhancement, like F1.
Please have a manual option please!
Yez please
"HoNdA wOn'T mAkE a CoUpE, tHeY dOn'T sElL!!" So glad those people were wrong!
Prelude for sure due to coupe
A 2.0L naturally asiprated engine + 1 electric motor most likely is not going to get 300 hp; 210 hp the most. FYI, Toyota's new 2025 Camry has 2.5L + electric motor with a total output of only 225.
232 if you get AWDe.
Hybrid could create a true sport performance vehicle. Electric only is not the answer. Looks great, though!
Well, if it's fun and toss-able, I'll take it. Probably doesn't need to be modified.
