    So basically it’s a civic coupe with a new Prius looking front end. This ain’t fam. The civic coupe sold poorly and I don’t expect this to do too much better unless it’s priced right, has a manual option, and has 300ish hp. Just my opinion.

      I only WISH a manual would increase sales. I am blessed to have a 2009 Cayman, stick-shift (NOT THE S!) with 252 horsepower and it has more than enough power to thrill me on the road, and enough to get me in trouble. (especially on on-ramps while I hit 7000 rpm in second gear with a screaming engine behind me).
      Companies that had committed to the manual transmissions have learned that despite the language in these forums, few people want to learn to shift. And now that manual shifting brings worse gas mileage, it becomes less of choice for an everyday driver. So, i think the Miata will be the last to lose the stick, but the rest of you longing for a stick better act on it. Sticks are disappearing.
      I don't track my Porsche, for me it's just a fun toy, but it has surprised me with its reliability. Noisy on the highway, but the best highway car I have ever driven. Seems to hang in the center of a lane effortlessly. And the cost for parts for the older Cayman have surprised me with being reasonable. Hmm, I think Porsche intentionally makes durable vehicles; they are makers of high-quality products (with few rare exceptions).

    Got the 2023 Prius Prime and learned a lot about how they market these new cars. The engine is a 2.0L from the Corolla Hatchback, but with atkinson cams and mapping. The engine and e-motors are mechanically linked, with planetary gears acting as the CVT, not the belt kind. Other than that, there's a lot of other identical parts to the Corolla Hatchback, like the exhaust routing and the chassis, from mid to rear end. I dont think I'll have issues sourcing parts down the line.
    For the Prelude, this might be why the Civic Coupe is MIA this gen. They would be too similar. I know it's not what most want, but more interest means new aftermarket opportunities that haven't been outlawed (yet). The only hybrid to get their ECU cracked so far is a Honda Insight.

    As a former Prelude owner (3rd gen 88-91) and someone who wished I was short enough to fit a 5th gen, I was disappointed with the design of this new version. Totally subjective of course, but I love the design cues of the 2nd/3rd/5th gen Preludes and did not like the 4th gen appearance at all - it reminded me of an Oldsmobile Alero. This new one looks like it is an update to the 4th gen.
    The platform being shared with a Civic was a letdown, and the actual powertrain itself also disappointing. The big weakness of the OG Preludes every generation was a poor power-to-weight ratio, and going from a ~200hp motor from 93-01 to this version is extremely underwhelming. Honda had a chance to finally give us the perfect Prelude and instead we get this thing.

    All of this will depend if Honda gets this right. You need more than 200hp but not Type R power and you need to show off something people haven’t seen. IE would be using the electric e-cvt to individually control the front wheels making another SH model. The reality of a manual transmission though I think is a pipe dream. No reason for them not to bring it to the US either since we have no 2 door Hondas anymore since the reason why the discontinued it in the first place was you a had a 2 door accord at the time. These days Coupe sales have been really down , and for those people who want a performance car, they can go for a performance sedan, station wagon, SUV and a pickup truck. This car will be a commercial failure. It doesn't appeal the the sports car purists, who want a manual, high-reving, light-weight, RWD coupe. It doesn't even appeal to non-purists who just want a "fast" car. It also doesn't appeal to practical commuters, who want 4 seats and storage.

    Not to correct you twice;
    The prelude’s replacement was the S2000 from 2004 to 2011
    And they have a massive following still today.
    Secondly, Honda revived the Integra name and they’ve been selling like hotcakes, even I have one haha. They gave the integra the manual option as well, which people love for a nostalgic throwback!
    And all you people who are gonna argue that the integra today isn’t what it was; let me stop you there and tell you it pretty much is!
    The most power you could get from a 90s integra was 190hp from a naturally aspirated 2.0L
    The base integras were exactly what today’s one is, a normal sporty economy alternative to the civic!
    So don’t get your hopes up too high thinking Honda is gonna pump a lot of horsepower into the brand new prelude either…. It never had that much to begin with back then….

      My point originally still stands, he was wrong when he said nothing replaced the Prelude originally. It was in fact the S2000 in 2004 because Honda wanted to focus on a more direct sports car.

      @RetroKingOG I'm being smug because u go around talking shit when in reality u don't know shit about these cars. Getting the horsepower wrong is one thing. But if you really knew about Hondas u would know the type r is a b series and u would know that it was never a 2 liter. Plus u would know dam well that it didn't make that much torque.

    I’m waiting till after the prelude to see what Honda pulls out its brain after that..if there is a chance at the next s2k only cause I forsure know that will be more performance based then the prelude and if the prelude don’t come with a manual hybrid or not it’s going to flop

  • @alg003
    @alg003 19 дней назад +3

    Honda needs to bring back their IMA system and KEEP the 6-speed manual. That way, you have the fuel economy and boost of the hybrid system while being true to the roots prelude that's legitimately fun to drive. Otherwise, it feels like just a civic rebadge. Win win for everyone. For the love of GOD, don't make it an EV.

    It’s basically the current civic hybrid but with 2 less doors. So it’s essentially far less practical than the current sedan and hatchback hybrid, at nearly the same price and probably worse for resale. I’m getting the hatch hybrid. I think the Prelude going to flop so hard, like sitting on lots for months flop. It doesn’t make sense when they are just throwing the 2.0 hybrid engine in it. It’s going to be probably around the same numbers as the outgoing civics, no one is gonna buy it. A 2 door FWD hybrid with 0-60 around 6 seconds. No one will buy it. Remember this comment guys. No one asked for this car. NO ONE!!!!
