Sorry I'm late to the party, just found this awesome lady. My jaw dropped when I read your comment. I'm sorry that you were told that. I've struggled with my weight my entire life and I have similar experiences. The worst was a few years ago, long story short I was on a first date. As we were getting the check at the restaurant, the waitress handed me a business card for her weight loss products. She looked directly at me and explained what her products were. Didn't even simply slip me the card discreetly, nooooo. My date was as surprised as I was. I could have crawled under the table.

I have a family member that did similar things to her elderly mother and similarly tore the family apart, but it ended up being because of a drug addiction.
It seems telling and heartbreaking that an MLM affected their family like drug addiction has affected mine.
It does seem like the brainwashing and love-bombing that MLM up lines do becomes like an addiction. There’s that gambling element to it (making a big sale or signing someone up feels like hitting a small jackpot), coupled with the cult techniques.

My grandma was my closest and dearest friend that I ever had. I talked to her daily about EVERYTHING. When I was 16 & passed my driving test, first thing I did was go pick up my stepsister & went to my grandmas. I would drive over there like
2-3 a week and every Sunday afternoon I was there. In the summer I’d go there every single day for 2wks straight just to eat lots of great salads & garden w my grandma.
Anyways the story of Katie using grandmas house as collateral and then losing it!!!!! And taking out all these credit card loans and everything in grandmas name…. Oh that makes me so mad. If that was my sibling… idk… idk how I’d handle that

Speaking of weddings and Huns, my cousin married a nice girl, but her friend is an mlm hun. I forget which but it is a makeup one. She added all their friends to a “virtual bachelorette party” actually I think it was Mary Kay. Anyway I never met the bride in person as they live on the other side of the country, and never met her friend at all. I somehow ended up in the group, and missed the video call. To where the next week, this girl (not the bride, her hun friend) she messages me like “OMG wasn’t the virtual party so much fun?” Or something along those lines, and then continues with her pitch, and I’m like “I wasn’t there.” And she’s like “really? I coulda sworn I saw your name” and I’m like “nope, wasn’t me,” wasn’t even on my phone at the time, hell my phone was probably dead. It had the mlm name in the event name so I wasn’t gonna sign in with folks I don’t know to be solicited to. No offense to my cousin’s girl, she’s cool, but I think her hun is nuts.
Honestly I think it was disrespectful to sell her products at a “party” she’s claiming to be throwing for her friend, a literal Bride but that’s just my opinion. Day shoulda been about the Bride not about Mary Kay junk.
It was creepy to me that the hun added me to the group in the first place. If the bride did then ok that’s fine, but the hun was a complete stranger , it was really weird.
I marked the message thread as spam so she can’t try to sell to me. I take my privacy seriously and don’t feel like putting up with some hun idk hassling me on messenger. Ain’t got time for that.
Even if I didn’t know all about MLM’s I’d never join one because I absolutely despise sales positions. I personally hate every minute of selling. Any situation I got myself into where I had to do it at work, I dreaded it. It’s a line of work I’d be most miserable doing. I’m also simple, I don’t use a lot of “products” outside the basic toiletries (soap, toothpaste, deodorant, some makeup, body spray/perfume) and I definitely wouldn’t use one from an MLM because I have no use for it. I’m also very picky with my makeup, and a creature of habit. Don’t see any incentive in spending more on something when the one I already use is cheaper, shades I actually like, and I know I’m not allergic to. (I found out I’m allergic to certain drugstore brands so far I’ve only had a reaction to concealer where I break out in a mild face rash for about 36-72 hours or so)

Pure Romance would, IMO, do a lot more business if they just sold their merchandise online (if they don't already). I did go to a pure Romance party once and got this skin-soothing after shave spray. It is the ONLY THING I've ever used that actually prevented razor burn/irritation on my bikini line. I loved it. But when I went to that party, not only was I oblivious to it being an MLM, it was before I knew what an MLM was. That stuff lasted me YEARS (which technically is probably not a good thing to keep and use it for that long, but it worked perfectly down to the last spray). Now I'm torn because I don't want to support an MLM, but I REALLY miss that spray.

I once had someone try to rope me into an MLM. Back when I was in college I got a phone call from a guy who was in the D&D group I played with, saying he could hook me up with a job since he knew I was looking for one. So I set up a day and time to meet with him and his "boss" at a local restaurant for lunch. Now, I had never heard the term MLM before, but I had heard Pyramid scheme before and it wasn't long before I started thinking that this was just that. A pyramid scheme. So I decided right then that I'd listen to the pitch to be polite because they did pay for my lunch, but I wasn't joining shit. Sure enough, the biggest red flag confirmed my suspicions. The "boss" stated "This isn't a pyramid scheme" before going into why it's "not" that despite being exactly that. I went home after telling them I'd think it over (just to be polite) where my dad asked how it went and I said "I think it's a pyramid scheme" and told him about it and he said "yeah, don't touch that" I ended up leaving the D&D group to avoid the guy after that because he kept pushing me to join the team even after I said no. (I don't remember what MLM company it was but I think they sold vacuums or something like that IDK, it's been years and I didn't exactly pay much attention after I realized it wasn't actually a job offer.)

Hi! New here - after watching yet another Savannah Marie video, you came up as relevant content in my sidebar (in case you needed proof the algorithm works sometimes!). Oh man these are some horror stories, indeed. The story involving the grandma losing her house is gut-wrenching. It's sickening elder financial abuse, and the story is akin to someone having a terrible drug addiction and tearing apart their entire family in the process in order to feed their physical dependance on the drug. The anti-MLM community is the only form of that kind of rehab there seems to be, and it's kind of upsetting, because it really does take a form of post-cult-level-deprogramming for some to see the truth and get out. Many times, the irreparable damage is already done, much like what happened here. :(

This is the first that I heard the same skin reaction to Mary Kay that I had. I already had/have cystic acne, but my whole face exploded painfully after only a few days. I was actually really sad about it, because it did leave my skin softer than anything else ever has. The rep just told me that it was the toxins coming out. 🙄

ColorStreet is EXTREMELY predatory. They make “stylists” pay full price then get a refund every two weeks or something. At the beginning of the pandemic they were having supply shortages and then senior stylists would buy huge numbers of the most popular sets, leaving nothing for others. They then put number limits and randomly assigned which level would get first grabs, but the women would use multiple different credit cards (pre-paid ones) to place multiple orders with the max numbers for each order. I quit after 3 months.

I remembered being in college and I was starting to get into skin care but my skin was really sensitive so I try to avoid it I mean avoid it until I met some Mary Kay reps that try to push a consultation on me. I told him that my skin is too sensitive and that their products will not work out for me. When I told my mom about it, she told me how one of her former coworkers used to rave about Mary Kay products and her skin went to crap all things to the skin care. This is why you patch test anything, when a rep came to my job tag people tried some products and she talked about a charcoal mask that she said charcoal is good for all skin types. I wanted to burst out with it’s good for oily skin not all skin types. I want to see you so bad! Anyways, I just did a patch test on my hand and it gave me a weird tingling sensation and I did not like it and asked for the wet towel to get it off because it was bothering me. I was glad I never done it on my face.

I used to be a big consumer of Medi fast, when my “coach’s coach” convinced me that I needed to have my own business. I didn’t understand half the stuff that he was talking about, but we were sitting at Starbucks with my computer so he could set everything up when a friend I hadn’t talked to in years saw that I was online and just messaged me “how are you doing?” Since my coach’s coach was sitting right there he thought that this was a grand time that I hit this person up to be my first customer. So this poor girl that I had not spoken to in years getssome crappy message from me that says, “hey I am selling medifast blah blah blah blah blah. “
She was very polite and said she would think about it and then I never heard from her again. Years later I messaged her and I apologize profusely. When it happened I was horribly angry and embarrassed. But for some reason I didn’t want to hurt my coaches coach’s feelings . He didn’t have any trouble hurting my feelings or destroying a friendship, but I was worried about his feelings… I did not know that this was an MLM until I started watching a show.

Like, Dude, I wear makeup every fricking day. This was not a revelation that makeup makes me look better! Oh. SO cringey. I couldn’t get out of there soon enough. I once, through Instagram was messaged by a friend’s daughter who was deeply in the Beachbody team. Oh geeeeez, that was weird. I have been planning my own workouts with home DVDs and eating super healthy… I am vegan… For 10 years. She was pushing that she had this marvelous wonderful plan. Oh man. Cut that off immediately. I was working a shift where I got off about 8 pm at night. My friends and I would meet at the Village Inn because it was cheap, clean, and open 24/7. I started to notice how many Amway pitches took place there. I felt like it was just college students and Amway meetings that filled the restaurant at night.

I'm in the same boat about Beach Body! I had the dvds back before they were an mlm and I really enjoyed the workouts. A cousin of mine worked at the company (not a coach or sales, the corporate side) so I got it for super cheap. I ended up losing the dvds in a move so I just found them online and downloaded them. Back then they just had a little promo for shakeology in each workout and I remember thinking to myself even way back then that it sounded like bs haha. They would say stuff like 'you'd have to eat 50 heads of broccoli' and all these other things to get the nutrition in shakeology, and even as a teen I remember thinking they must have been cherry-picking a single nutrient in each of those comparisons to make it sound better, like you'd have to eat 50 heads of broccoli to match the protein or vitamin c or whatever in shakeology, but that's because they intentionally picked a healthy food low in that particular nutrient to compare haha.

    Lord, the Mary Kay one...
A friend from high school got in deep to Mary Kay for years after graduation and at one point I had to put our friendship on pause because literally every time she contacted me to "hang out" or "get coffee" it was really either a sales or recruitment pitch and it came down to, "Hey, I'm never going to join or buy this stuff, if you want to hang out and actually hang out we absolutely can, but if all you want to do is pitch your pyramid scheme to me, I'm not interested in talking to you."
We didn't talk for several years until she finally got out after realizing that it was a complete scam and that she'd lost significantly more money than she ever made.

In Australia if the police see a man hit a women or theres a witness to domestic violence (well in Melbourne, Victoria where I am from anyway) they’ll arrest and automatically put out an intervention order saying they can’t harm you, harm your things etc (a lot of the time you’re still aloud to see the person tho it’s just to protect victims who can’t speak up due to the abuse and such).
This happened to me with an ex and he kept stalking me years after the IVO incident when I finally left him, threatened to kill me I just had a few screenshots of a few online incidents and now he can’t (legally) ever come near me for the rest of my life. It’s a really great system I think. Just felt this was kinda important to touch on law enforcement is doing well here in that law they have. 💓💓

I wish I would have been as smart nearly 10 years later.
