The intern drinking a different drink to pretend to drink the pink drink reminded me of a story one of my college professors told my class. He was teaching agriculture in Missouri, and got made fun of for not using chewing tobacco. His solution was to finely shred tootsie rolls and put them in a chewing tobacco tin. Everyone thought he was really hardcore because he swallowed the tobacco juice.

Putting too much essential oil on your skin can create a horrific stinging nettle/burning sensation on any skin sensitivity (I was never in an MLM but I thought at one point they could be like a hack for cheap perfume. Post partum hair loss is a thing, there's nothing much you can do. You are shedding all the hair that your body held onto while it was busy nourishing your baby in the womb. Most people's hair gets thicker during pregnancy so the post-partum loss seems more pronounced. It all evens out in the end. I wish it would not be used as a scare tactic to sell stuff.

  • @eleanorwillow9671

Knowing the way hair growth and hair loss works, with the phases hair goes through, I don't think there's a way to prevent post-partum hair loss. It sucks, but it's normal and natural. The only thing you can do to help, is continue taking prenatal vitamins. My second baby is 5 months old and I'm still taking them - mostly because I'm nursing, but I have noticed I have less severe hair loss this time vs with my first.
Could be coincidence - but I do think it's helping that I'm getting all the vitamins and minerals I need this time around vs not taking any vitamins in the post partum period with my first.
To be clear - I still have hair loss, but it's not as bad. It's been easier to tame and "hide". Which is a relief since I'm getting married next month and don't want a ton of baby hairs flying around 😂

    • @isfpoisson
      @isfpoisson Год назад +5

The hair loss was such a sad part of my postpartum, but I dealt with it because a) it's inevitable, it's just the hair cycle and b) it will end on its own. And it did!
This is why women need to be educated on how their bodies recover from pregnancy and deliver. Otherwise, all of the changes are scary, sad, and women can become targets of pseudoscience schemes!

The second story reminded me when I was harassed by a Herbalife woman in my gym. I’ve been training for years and I’m friends with the trainers in the gym, who actually work there and are real trainers. Those people helped me from time to time if I had a wrong posture when working out.
One day I was in gym working out with my boyfriend and this lady with Herbalife bottle who I never seen in this gym approached me. She started explaining to me how I’m not doing my workout the right way. I thanked her and said how I’ve been working out for years and there are gym trainers who would say something if I really wasn’t doing it right.
She gave me an attitude and told me she was trying to help.
I returned to my workout and not realising, she was behind me, touching my hips trying to “fix” my posture. I asked her to not touch me and told her I don’t need her help.
I went away and she followed me everywhere I go, checking if I was doing my workout the right way. I again approached her and told her to stop following me because it’s seriously creepy and even if my posture isn’t good, it’s not on her to harass me. She went away finally and I have never seen her again in that gym.
I do have to say, my boyfriend also tried to tell her not to bother me because my posture was good and if I really needed help, he would help me as he is training for many years.

I still use the facial cleanser (for adults now, lol), but I can only use the cleanser, not the other products (eye cream, day/night solution, etc) because it dries my skin out so much that my skin under my eyes starts to flake off. She has tried to recruit me so many times, but I always make excuses not to join. She makes just enough money to validate staying in, but in my opinion, it's just not worth it. I have never been involved with an mlm, and I am so happy about that. The whole business set up reminds me of when my great grandfather, his brothers, and their sons worked in the coal mines of Eastern Kentucky around the early 1900s. Back in those days, the coal mine and the land around it was owned by the mining company. On that land, the company would build little ramshackle houses, usually one or two rooms, and they would have a "bank", a "general store" and sometimes a doctor's office. All of these enterprises were owned by the mining company. If you worked the mines, you had live in one of the houses. Your pay each week was docked for the "rent". You were paid in company "script", which is basically Monopoly money that is only good at the company store. Prices were higher than in town, but you had no real money to spend in town. It was a way to keep the miners working for the company, because you could not quit if you "owed" money for the rent and to the company store. Modern day slavery. These MLMs sound very similar.

Agree with going to the doctor if you're sick too long. I one started off with a cold and four months later I was having an incredible cough and constant headaches. The thing was I kept getting better, then relapsing, then getting better, than relapsing. When I finally got frustrated enough and went to my physician, she said that I had a serious lung infection. By stringing certain events over the past few months together we found that I had a cold, and then when I kept relapsing my body got weaker and weaker until the point that it just gave up and the cold settled into an infection. Stories like Story 1 weirdly give me faith in humanity -- MLM lady appears to be in possession of actual human logic, has a support system who can make sure she's safe, and checked up on story writer to make sure she was OK too. Sometimes these stories can veer so far into insanity territory that it's nice to see one where it's clearly just ignorance at play and you can actually understand the motives of the people involved

Thank you for your great work telling so many of the real life stories that expose the reality of MLMs in a very objective and respectful way. I wanted to comment on Story 2... I was in Juice Plus for approximately 5 years. One major point of cognitive dissonance for me was noticing that EVERY ONE of the top leaders I saw at conferences and events, all had a very specific, unrealistic-for-most physicality, seemingly Stepfordish look. By that I mean, they all looked like they came from the same Barbie doll factory. Looking back at it now, it literally makes me shudder.

YES @ personal purchases. Don’t know if the rules have since tightened, but as of 5 years ago I knew of high-ups at the very top of Scentsy who would purchase the monthly product quota themselves, give it away to their downline as ‘prizes’ or use it as testers then claim it at tax time as a work expense. The company has rules that are ostensibly designed to prevent excessive self-purchasing, but the higher-ups in question flout these rules by buying from each other’s accounts and ‘lifting each other up’.

The plexus one actually made me sad, when I was pregnant with my first born a cousin of mine was selling plexus and she was also pregnant. She was all about it on her Facebook and pretty much all she talked about. She seemed so happy and vibrant and kept pushing it on me. I told her I was just afraid to take any supplements and even gave up some herbal teas because I was afraid for anything to harm my baby. She seemed a bit annoyed at me for saying this and reminded me that we were both pregnant and she takes all of the supplements and she and her baby are just fine. She just said she understood, and we left it at that. I gave birth to a healthy baby boy, and she ended up losing her baby girl full term. I'm not saying Plexus had anything to do with it, but it's just sad to me nonetheless.

It is entirely possible to be a "girl boss", work from home, run a business etc. But MLMs are not it. I was pitched by a younique hun a few years ago, she had the logo plastered on her car and everything. After asking if it was a pyramid scheme and being told, "No! Those are ILleGAl" 🤦‍♀️ I wisely decided to follow my gut and decline. As far as I can tell no one around here sells younique anymore and her car went back to normal. I started a pretty successful Etsy shop selling original art and prints. There are so many better options for anyone wanting to work from home. Furniture flipping, making candles, wax melts, cakes, art in any form, nails and beauty, thrifting.. the options are plentiful in these days of social media and online selling. For anyone who needs to hear it, you can do it too❤ Find a passion, not an mlm!

I don’t use any mlm oils, because of how ridiculously expensive they are and how unethical the business model is.
But I go through *a lot of essential oils* whenever I have the cold/flu (typically eucalyptus and camphor-or peppermint if I’m nauseous).
But I will either put them in a room diffuser, or drip some on a washcloth that I set in the bottom of my shower-so they “diffuse” when the hot water heats them up.
It always helps calm my coughing, ease my congestion, and the scent relaxes me….when they’re used in conjunction with regular cold/flu medicine.
But never in a million years would I ever do something as _INSANE_ as literally *CONSUME* those oils!!!!!
I am genuinely shocked that these “oily” companies don’t get hit with massive lawsuits over this stuff.
Because you can easily poison/cause significant harm to someone, by telling them to ingest a bunch of essential oils (especially undiluted)!!!!🤦‍♀️
