    This makes me miss my 2015 F-Type R. I owned it for 2 years, 20k miles, made $16k on it thanks to Covid (the only time anyone has ever made money on a British luxury car) and put a down payment on a house. The first generation was prettier than the second generation F-Type but it's still a very nice looking car with a really fun character.

      My 2018 FTR was an absolute nightmare from day one. They delivered it and as soon as I started it, the check engine light came on. I thought it may have been the gas cap but JAG diagnosed as a malfunction with the wiring and the entire wiring harness for the car had to be replaced. Mind you, the car had 19miles on it when I took delivery. The dealership ended up buying the car back. It was so sad because it’s’ a SICK car!

    • @americanAlienBoy
      @americanAlienBoy 2 месяца назад +11

      Interesting. Having just bought a tin-top GTS 4.0, and driven the OG F-type, I can understand. They're two different cars. The Jag is a more soothing road trip car, plus it has a wild streak kind of like what a Ford Mustang wishes it could grow up to be. OTOH, the Porsche feels like a tank from a build quality POV, and its handling precision is on a different level. Since my use case includes autocross and track days, it was P-car all the way for me.

The coolant pipes in between the SC & block are a failure point for them, so make sure that has been upgraded to the newer “JLR” plastic one or to an aftermarket cast aluminum one like I did. Mine in Firesand Orange convertible with carbon fiber front lip spoiler, side skirts and rear diffuser really stands out on the road. I get tons of complements every time I'm out on the road. I have a 2024 fpace SVR with the same engine. To get the pops and bangs on the overflow, you have to feather the throttle right at or slightly above 3k rpm. (Between 3k-3200) it’s still very loud and very obnoxious. It’s a burble and some sharp pops. Very fun.
    Also, not sure if you guys were driving in S mode or regular D mode (not the same as in dynamic vs comfort)
    You have to pull back on the shifter to get into S mode and it makes the throttle response sharper etc and the 3k rpm overflow pops and bang happen very easy with it on.
    Great car. Love it. It’s super fast. My SUV is almost 5k lbs and I hit 60 in 3.8 seconds. Your convertible is like a thousand pounds lighter. It has to be fast af.

    I bought a 2014 F-Type R (RWD coupe) last year and I absolutely love that car. Totally agree that the original iteration is prettier, never been a fan of the facelift.
    Apart from the infotainment - there's not a lot actually different 10 years later - if you can get a 2nd hand one, they're amazing, hilarious, raucus cars and they deserve to be celebrated :)

    • @dlj1285
      @dlj1285 2 месяца назад +1

      That is not true at all. There are lots of little changes, and some larger. The new R certainly handles better due to receiving the SVR suspension setup, and has more power. Upgraded plastic piping less failure prone, no rusting of cross members underneath, no sticky buttons to deal with, improved materials inside generally, better tech, no issues with water Ingress through hood vents like earlier cars leading to injector problems, etc etc…Even the exhaust by some is viewed as a better setup…A little more grownup with less burble tune, but still loud enough as can be seen in this video. Won’t have the failed cats to go along with the previous nonsense either. There’s more improvements then that. It’s normal for a car to naturally refine throughout its run. This is the best F-type ever objectively. Especially if you prefer the more up-to-date design too, which I personally do, but that’s subjective.

    I’ve driven every variety of the F-type except the one in this video. Even the regular S version is fun, and the Rs are a riot. Easily the best all around 40-60k used sports car in North America. Reliability is no worse than the Germans either. The AMG GTs are now getting quite affordable too, and is more of a true sports car. But I think you can get still get a lot more for your money with the F-type, and the earlier gen is still a complete stunner. New ones never did it for me cosmetically.

    The Rolls is the one you drive to the estate in the countryside. The Aston is the one you drive into the city for the evening. The Porsche you take to the track. But the one you drive for fun? That’s the Jaguar. It’s nice enough you can show you’ve become someone but not that you’ve put on airs. You drive it because it has quirks and personality. Maybe you put on the driving gloves. Not because they’re really necessary but because it makes you feel like a driver. The Jag is that car.

    I've just got back from a little country drive in my 2014 V8S. I've had it one year and was thinking maybe a Boxster 4.0 is the next move but it's a lot more money and the Jag has character in abundance which I'm not sure the Boxster does (which I say as someone who loved his 987 Boxster S). I think the difference is in the Jag you enjoy the engine and the shove while in the Boxster it's more about handling and the chassis. Even though the Boxster has a great engine and the Jag handles pretty well.

    I have a V8s cabriolet since 2015, bought if used at around 24k kilometers. Now it sits at 75, for several reasons I didn't get to drive it as much altough it's my "daily driver". Thought about selling it last year for an exige (which would be very hard to daily, especially since I'm probably almost to tall for it).
    However for now I have decided that I will still keep it a couple of years. It has been nothing but great and is still a lot of fun, everytime I use it. I would recommend it over any car. Almost bought a c7 back then over it, so glad that I didn't.

    I put 35k miles on my F-Type R from 2017-18, almost all on road-trips to the Tail of the Dragon and Coronado Trail and Beartooth Highway and such, absolutely loved it & miss it. British racing green. Have a yellow LC500 now and normally it'd be a fun comparison between the two, but the difference in reliability makes it not even a question which one I'd prefer to keep long term

    • @snowsenses
      @snowsenses 2 месяца назад

      My take on LC vs F-Type is the F-Type is faster and sounds and handles a little better, both feel extremely special and look fantastic and sound wonderful, the LC is much more reliable and practical (so much more storage space and more comfortable seats) and has a way, way nicer interior. I recommend doing what I did and own an F-Type til it gets out of warranty and then get an LC long term. That said, even under warranty it was tough with the Jaguar being at the dealership for entire months plural of the 15 I owned it - and mine didn't even have any major issues. Coolant leak, e-diff unavailable warning light always on they couldn't ever fix it despite multiple attempts, sunroof stuck, AC stopped working, etc etc.

    • @truthseeker0077
      @truthseeker0077 2 месяца назад

      @@snowsenses That's sheer nonsense. F-Type doesn't have a "sunroof" that gets stuck. Obviously, you never owned it brand new and are making fake comments about alleged reliability issues. I have owned and continue to own two Jaguar AJ133 V8s, including an F-Type, from custom order. If you buy them new and keep them for 5+ years as the original owner, and not as a cheap-ass used car buyer picking up neglected cars, they have essentially no reliability issues.
      Earlier AJ133 models had plastic coolant pipes that had to be replaced earlier than desirable, but that's still within normal wear and tear for an engine that runs higher op temp than most of its competitors. Jag V8s, for example, are far more reliable than any of BMW V8s and Merc V8s in current production. I also own a brand-new 992 911, which, quite frankly, had a surprising amount of build quality issues that sneaked past factory quality control and still suffer from random rattles that pop up continuously. The Jags, when picked up brand new and owned for many years, never had such QC issues, compared to even Porsche 992.
      As for LC500, that car is primarily liked by people who do not understand engineering. The LC's body structure is damn cheap - all steel. Suspension parts and most vehicle components are shared from RC parts bin. Toyota only made the interior to look nice, while cheapening on the chassis material and suspension components. That's why the LC is so much heavier than even the RWD V8 F-Type by several hundred pounds. It's an inferior car to the all-aluminum riveted and bonded F-Type, from sheer automotive engineering perspective. The F-Type is built like an aircraft fuselage on the ground, with no cost savings on the suspension components and chassis materials.

    We bought a used 2015 F-Type R several years ago and owned it for a year, but I became afraid of it. Nothing broke, nothing failed, I loved driving it, and Loved its first-generation looks, and if I was rich, I would still own it. I discovered that when you buy a used supercar, you'll be treated as though you bought it new - and are charged accordingly. Broken headlight? $4,000. Need an engine? $20K for a used one with an unknown history - installation not included. We ran over a piece of road debris that was stupid expensive for the slight damage it caused. Point being, when someone buys a used supercar - any supercar - it will saddle the new owner with expense commensurate with its new cost. I had inadvertently swum to the deep end of the pool and had to reluctantly let it go to get back to my more pedestrian lifestyle.

    The LC500s party trick is the first gear is nerf and the other gears pull way harder. You can always toss the final drive from the LC500h into the LC500 to get it down to around 4 seconds but I assume they nerfed it to protect the 10 speed transmission.
