For my Civic, it happened the other way around. I got a 2000 VTi VTEC and the ph16 block coolant channels were badly damaged by corrosion. It's with a D16y4 block now. Cheers
Looks like a fun project, I have a 2000 DX with a stock y7 I am about to do this to. I have not done much with cars yet but I am pretty handy. Just bought my y8 head the other day but I need the intake manifold, ecu, then some gaskets and a timing belt kit and I think I can tackle it. Good luck on your full swap, cant wait to see it!
King Iburu thanks for the feedback ! It’s the first time I try uploading anything like this, as you can see from my channel, I usually do gaming. Also, I’m glad to see Im not the only one who listens to that type of music !
I want to take my 98 sedan and do the same engine modifications. For a 4-door Civic sports car. Coilovers and suspension mild upgrade. Swap an LSD into the 5-speed . Just a daily that can be extremely fun. It would be more practical than B swapping.
Thank you for noticing, I insist people to do this because it adds a note to the exhaust. Also it reduces the disapproval faces of fellow motorists on the road 😅
3:40 the music stops and they lay that used greasy headgasket on the block and then put the head on I totally expected them to be like "just kidding of course we got a new one lol!" but nope
I understand your cringe and or concern but this was meant to be on a budget, as doing this kind of head swap is cheap. Anyway I ended up scrapping that engine anyway and it’s laying on the sideline now. I’ve put a b18 in my civic and there’s a vid on my channel showing it . Feel free to check it out 👌
Im pretty sure you dont use a solenoid. It will work without it but then again there are down sides. Its more of a "lets just send it without it" while still being careful with the engine itself
its funny, i recently got into an accident that made me get into learning to fix cars and stuff. my daily is a 2000 civic cx just like yours. even funnier? i just switched the front cover to be black from silver, just like yours
you did not show alot of work that still had to be done like the vtec wiring, iacv convertion from 3 cables to a 2 cable plug and probably the obd1 distributor ..
How're you getting the ECU to talk to the VTEC in the head? I know there's some wire that need run from the head to the ECU. And even a coolant line needs moved around.
Sick video bro, looking fwd to do this but since Ihave a family to look after my little project might take a while but all iwant is that vtec on my y7 lol y Viva Mexico!!!
For non vtec to vtec conversion. Do you also need to change the distributor? Or the only thing that needs to be replaced are the head, intake manifold, ecu, and engine harness?
I don’t have to mess with the ECU? And how was the vtech not working so I don’t run in that problem? I’m bouta cop a Honda Civic LX with a D16y7. So give me all the tips! Please!!!!
Yes the ECU has to be either replaced by the correct one that goes with D16y8 or you have to purchase one that has been chipped and tuned for vtec. For that D16y7 you’re going to want to get the D16y8 head and obviously it’s intake manifold. You can also keep your original wiring harness. This job is not hard it can be done all within a day once you have everything you need.
@@cobrasdie1899 so if I go to a junk yard and get the head and and intake and rebuild it. Ima have to take the ECU. And don’t i have to wire something on the intake ?
@@92Mikey yes that is correct. I was on a budget so I had to make make many shortcuts. Example: vtec on my car doesn’t kick too hard per say. It’s almost as if it wasn’t there. I soon will be swapping to b18 though.
@@92Mikey also make sure the ECU is the P2P that’s it’s name, from there you just run the sensors for vtec, you will also need a jumper cable for the ECU from OBD1 to OB2 in order to connect the new ECU. That’s IF you don’t decide to switch your harness
Hey I did the same thing to my y7 but i cant seem to figure out where to put the timing at did u guys use a timing light if so what did you set it to thanks
I have the y7 mini me running the y8 head, intake manifold and harness I need to know how to find or something with the secondary o2 sensor I've look I the back on the intake manifold like others told me but I only have the one for the front..
I have a 96’ civic hatch so it currently has a stock d16y8 but I found an engine with a d16y8 bottom end and a swapped vtec head idk where it came from but will I need a sensor or solenoid or anything in order for vtec to activate on this one?
Hi I have a question did you have to drill a hole into the y7 block for the vtec to get oil I wanna do the mini me swap and I was told I need to drill a hole into the block for oil for the vtec?
@@pablojeria7449 Your English is fine m8, I’ve been natively speaking it my whole life and yet I make a lot of mistakes still hahaha. Anyway, I used the D16y7 block and the vtec d16y8 head, the block already has the oil line for vtec so basically just put the head on✌🏼
I plan to do this to my d16y7 but I bought it the other day and it almost looks like someone swapped a y8 intake manifold onto it already and the head says vtec e but no vtec solenoid it’s really weird but anyway I was wonder what ecu did u use and what chip?
Unfortunately the Vtec is nothing to brag about and the head is from d16y8 . However as of right now I have a b18 ready just looking for a good transmission ✌🏼
Look bud, if i wanted to hear crap elevator music id go sit in an elevator. Im here to listen to ratchets crank, as a newly acquired honda owner this seems to be a normal thing. I miss my motorcycle 😢

Music choice was a banger. Nothing better than some kiyotaka sugiyama
That second song up here is such a tune. Japanese cars and music go well together

100+ respect points for slapping a res on gor it being "too loud".

@Chris Turner i mean...at least clean it with some brake cleaner right?
how did you do the solenoid for vtec basically my question is do you need to wire anything and what about timing

Mine is a 96 hatch i have a new video where I B18 swap it. Rn my build is on hold as I save up for the turbo set up
What did you do to clean it specifically, what did you use and what should I do, I’m don’t wanna fuck it up😂
Degreaser (LA Awesome) and very hot water
All that and you reuse the old head gasket 🤣🤣🤣🤣
😭🤣 don’t worry that engine has been long gone from my chassis .
So its just a quick take off and put new one in ?
If you know what you’re doing, yes it should just be that 👌
did you use your d16y7 harness or did you do any wiring for the y8 and vtec??

i imagine y8 because they are newer
