The ECU Humble added vtec to never actually engaged vtec because they for got TWO components. That and they charge more than most local shops ever would.

  • @Wreckedekcoupe
    @Wreckedekcoupe 3 года назад +6

    Love the build! As a circle track ex 4 banger class racer you can oil starve the oil pickup tube by turning left hard. Went threw 3 d series z6s before I realized it was an oil windage issue and even with an extra quart and a half, (Shaffer's 20w50) helped. But what fixed the problem was me making a trap door windage box inside of the pan to help keep oil to stay around the pickup tube. Never popped a motor after 2 years when the others would only last 2 or so race nights before rod knocking. My race engines always got new bearings and rings. My class was very limited to modification, so refreshing up the old engines was the biggest power adder. Only reason I say this is because of the autocross you were doing. Great build and love the attention to detail on making the cheaper ebay parts work great. Subbed!

    • @RustBeltAuto
      @RustBeltAuto  3 года назад +3

      Nice to know. Head lift issues are priority now. Still lifted head after oversized studs. Dropped total advance 6 more degrees @ about 20 for 24 psi. Seems to be holding now. Installing oil cooler next I think. Maybe that extra quart will help?

    • @Wreckedekcoupe
      @Wreckedekcoupe 3 года назад +1

      @@RustBeltAuto yes boosted D's dont like much timing, my friend has the same issue lifting the head with to much timming but doesn't have the big stud kit. I cant believe you still have the issue with the bigger studs! You can always turn the timing down and add more boost? But it seems that your in need of a turbo cam that has more overlap so the valves stay open longer and the air can get in and out with out pushing the head up. Dont know for sure but the guy I bought my car from has a build autocross eg hatch with a vitara d, and he picked up 80whp with a turbo stage 2 cam and valve springs n retainers, same boost and all. Dyno proven

    • @RustBeltAuto
      @RustBeltAuto  3 года назад +2

      @@Wreckedekcoupe high overlap is best for non turbo cars. Satisfied with the power it has. Decreased ignition timing changes location of peak pressure so there is less force on the head. You can lower boost pressure for the same effect, but get less power that way. Tuners get this wrong, because there is no pressure transducer in the head, and no measurement to go by. They are all guessing.

      It's actually quite simple to turbo a car if you're mechanically inclined, since there's tons of material online to use as guidance.

    A couple of years ago, someone came to me with a similar build, but one done by a spanner with a hammer. They had fitted a Turbo, but no oil cooler and the wiring was a complete mess. I managed to get it running reasonably well, not perfect, but far better than when he arrived with it. Once I felt I had done all I could, I dropped the bonnet and told him to drive it carefully, don't exceed 3000rpm and I never wanted to see it ever again.

    Auto-x is a blast when you have a decently setup car. Koni yellows with the G.C.'s, the big sway, and the LSD make a world of difference. Fine tuning the corner weighting/ balancing with the proper alignment will improve it even more. I have set up quite a bunch of chassis for track duty and prepped customers/ personal cars as well. LRP and the Glen are my two favorite courses. Nice job on the build bro. Gotta love a single jingle! 😎 I built a D16 EG hatch with a genuine Garrett GT30R, Synapse ramhorn, Hondata, ARP's, Cometic, gas flowed head with some port work, H.D. springs/ Super tech valvetrain IIRC, etc. I put this together for a customer of mine, and it was a blast for a somewhat affordable drivetrain when all was said and done. Put down around 380whp- 370wtq +/- on low boost. Car looked very stock on the outside, and even had a full mandrel 3" exhaust with a Magnaflow and resonator that had just a pipe as the 'tip' coming out the back and it was painted all satin black along with the FMIC that was hidden quite well. The gate was vented to atmosphere but the dump pipe was hidden as well pointing at the ground inside the bay. The only sign the car was even modded was the drop from a set of Tein coilovers and some black Slipstreams with R888's for track duty/ and some HX wheels with T1S' just for rolling around on. That was it for the looks department. Totally a SLEEPER until the hood was popped. The exhaust was definitely quiet for what it was, especially with the Magnaflow, Burns Stainless res, and the compressor itself which obviously acts like a 'muffler' to begin with. It was a very low-key looking ride, until you hit the 2-step or antilag LOLOLOL 😂🤣😂🤣👍👍👍👍👍 Thanks again for posting this vidja my dude!!! Was very entertaining and we'll put together!!😉

      Absolutely... Yeah I hear ya on that bro. The compressor size definitely matters when you're trying to keep it in the powerband to where it's the happiest as far as response goes. The lag factor is a beeotch for sure. I use something like the 3071 especially on 4 cyls because it's very spool happy but not too small where it'll leave you wanting more at WOT on a higher speed course/ highway. That 30R I ran on the one D16Y7 I built was the cats ass. Thanks again for the vidja broski and keep it real!!😎👍👍💪

Recently picked up a 93 del sol with a d15b7 in it, a legit grampa owned it find less than 100k on the body no rust but oh lordy going from my ej255 wrx running 300/301 to a d15 is painful. Drove an hr north into the boonies and picked up a d16z6 ... Planning to track down one of the jackson superchargers next ... Can't wait to feel your pain lol.

      Go with a Gt25 turbo instead, or even an old t3 50trim from a 80's Volvo. With the JRSC you'll be chasing tip-in detonation issues constantly and struggle to get to 200whp with a fully built head. A gt25 will make more than the stock rods will handle, far more than the JRSC if you send it, and boost will be nearly instant.

  • @FZERO20

    This was an awesome video but some things you may hear online are actually worth it. Like upgrading your oil pump allows you to rev higher safely without causing your oil to aerate or cavitate which can happen on a stock pump

    • @RustBeltAuto
      @RustBeltAuto  2 года назад

      Cavitation usually comes from a pump that is out of spec. This was not. Aeration comes from a pump that is "sucking" air from somewhere. This build is running strong. So for so good. Thanks for the input.
