This is brilliant once you done the bumpers you should of sprayed it back in silver loving the video though helped me a lot dude thank you very much for all your rc content ❤❤
hey bud! just catching up on some of your previous videos. was wondering why you reamed out the body holes after painting when some others suggested to line up the body to the body posts to make sure correct alignment and ream them out before paint especially when it comes to aftermarket bodies that are out there and some bodies that are included in kits well..let's just say that it's hit and miss at times depending on the kit involved. cheers and stay excellent! i watched both of your videos on how to prep and paint so i'm waiting for better weather to paint my Fiat 131 kit. same one that you have since i can't paint inside due to allergies.
Hey pal, I don't really have a good reason as to why I'd ream out the body post holes afterwards. Sometimes if a body doesn't have protective overspray film on it, I'll ream the holes after paint. I was probably just feeling over-confident that day. One too many IPA's before filming, lol! Have fun with the Fiat! Did you get the special blue paint for it?
@@poorboysrc nope..didn't find it, but i'm doing a little something different with the paint sceme. just like everyone else does when box art doesn't go according to plan. cheers bud and thanks for replying! see you in the next one.
Very nice job, and thanks for the tips. I'm planning on doing a "Death Proof" theme paint job on my Kraken 5b. If I use Matt Black for paint, will the shinny outside take away the Matt Black look?
Oh man, that'll be sweet! Send me pics when it's ready! poorboysrcchristmas@gmail.com And yes, if you paint the inside of the lexan body, the black will appear shiny. You could paint the outside to achieve the matte look you're after, but that's only good until the first roll-over.
Another awesome tutorial! That paint job came out AMAZING! Question do you prefer silver backing over white? If you were to do a all red car wich backing would you use? Also does it matter if you make your body post holes before or after the paint job?
Thanks bro! Backing color will change for me, depending on the primary color. On a solid color (no pearl or flakes in it), I'll use white as a backing color. But if my primary color is very metallic, or high pearl, or really bright and needs more pop, then I might back it with silver. And for the body post holes, I prefer to drill them before I paint. I find it easier to line them up and make them perfect when the body is still clear. 👊🏼🍻
Thanks Manuel. This particular body is no longer available. You'll have to go to www.teambluegroove.com to get one now. www.mciracing.ca for your decal needs too!
Hahaha too funny! Dee-cals, lol! That makes me laugh. In BC we call them decals (deckle) and back in Ontario everyone called them dee-cals. Funny stuff! 🤣
Paint the red first (mask off the white areas), then when done with the red, remove the masking and spray the whole inner white. The white will make the red pop, just make sure you lay down several good coats of red, it's a pretty transparent colour, so many (light) coats are needed for coverage. 🍻
Total noob here......does the oil from your fingers contaminate the surface when applying the masking tape? Should I be recleaning the inside after masking and before paint? Thanks!
Good question! Yes, the oil from your fingers can affect adhesion, so if you've done a lot of masking, and touched the inside of the body a lot, I'd recommend wiping the inside down with a lint free cloth and some isopropyl alcohol. 👊🏼
This is by far the best RC paint tutorial on RUclips. My only question did you use 1 can of orange an one can of silver to back? This is the exact combo I've been looking to do. My body is almost exactly the same size.
Thanks so much for the wicked comment! 👊 You're right, I only needed one can of each. Those small cans can go a surprisingly far way! Good luck with your paint job and thanks for watching!
Quick question from a beginner to the hobby, would you paint a bumper in black FIRST before applying the rest of the main colour being 'white'? If I do black second I run the risk on over spraying into the main colour white?
Very good tutorial! Any idea what material a RedCat Gen7 Pro body would be made of? Polycarbonate? Or the other you mentioned? I’ve searched their website but can’t find any info on it. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful! Im 90% sure those Redcat bodies are made of Polycarbonate. I've never owned one, but looking at pics, they look to be pretty thin and inexpensive, consistent with polycarbonate. 🍻

Tamiya masking tape for curves is the best. It comes in a variety of widths, all the way down to 1mm. Most hobby stores carry it, and if they don't have it, Amazon does. 🤙
I brought Tamiya AS-9 for my rc shell as It’s the colour I want. Then watched this and realised i need PS 🤦🏻♂️ Will the AS hold well if I put a coat of PS-55 clear on first and then I’m going to shoe goo the shell afterwards? Annoying as I’ve already brought the paint and I can’t find a a replacement khaki green in polycarbonate paint anywhere. I’d admit my rookie mistake and take the loss on the paint if I could find a decent Khaki colour
That's a typical mistake (we've all done it, myself included!) and you've got an interesting solution... Theoretically you're right, if you spray the PS clear first then the AS next, the AS should hold. I've never done this before, but in theory, I don't see why it wouldn't work. 👊
@@poorboysrc I’m going to risk it. I’m thinking 1/2 to 3/4 of a can of PS-55 , then apply AS-9, then remaining can of clear to sandwich the AS. Finally I’ll shoo goo anyway. It’s either try it or bin the AS paint and go for a completely different colour, which I don’t want to do.
@@htomid I think you'll be good to go! Just use thin coats so the paints don't fight eachother and you should be golden. The shoe goo will be an added touch that should ensure everything stays together.

8:57 if i can ill make a piece of tape that fits there to avoid using a blade or use the blade as light as possible on the body because a score like that will end up being a crack after a crash
