    Hi, I have a lot of experience in painting candy on cars but never reversed paint on a lexan body. I have a 53 Ford f-100 body that was very hard to get and is discontinued. So I don't want to mess it up. Lol. I like the candy red darker, I wish you could have sprayed that one with the silver so I could see how it looked. Anyways I will be using cans of paint that I've had to save for this project. I have duratrax candy red , two cans, and Traxxas transparent metal flake that I'll use instead of silver, and duratrax black for a backer. My question is do you think I will be ok spraying a lot and I mean a lot of red candy to make it extremely dark. Almost like a ruby red, or red wine, kind of dark. Then spraying the metal flake , probably 90 % coverage . I could hold it up to a light and see if I could see light around some of the flakes, then spraying with the black for the backer closing the gaps between the metal flakes and giving the red a little more darkness. I'll be practicing on clear plastic spoons for samples. Just hoping it will work so I don't destroy the body. Great video.

For the Duratrax and Traxxas color questions, its best to ask those companies and make a test panel or two before the actual paintjob. Thank you.

    This is really a helpful video. Greatly appreciated. Quick question, while waiting the ten minutes between coats do you empty your cup and flush your gun with reducer?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 года назад

      Hello. Thanks for watching. There's no need to flush the gun and empty the cup in between coats. Notice only minimal amounts of 4011 Reducer is mixed with candy2o for airbrush, and no reducer is added for spray-gun. Not over-reducing and not using 4012 Reducer helps keep paint sprayable in the gun with only minimal agitation after sitting for 10 - 15 minutes. Thank you.

    Great video. Great information. I am an RC Car painter. With using the candies, I want to create 2 other looks. Anodizing and heavy metal flake. I was planning on backing the candy with Wicked Quicksilver. Would this achieve a similar effect like what you just did?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 года назад +4

      Yes. Backing the W357 Quicksilver should be a gloss white for the most chrome-like finish (gloss black works too for a darker chrome finish). This can be done by mixing Wicked or Createx Airbrush White with 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear (~ 4050 4:1 white) or using new Wicked W017 Gloss White, releasing March 1st. Thank you.

      @@CreatexColors If this is being painted in reverse, via Rc Car body, is the 4050 still necessary? Does this act as a adhesive catalyst? Just now learning about this world of Wicked Colors. Just switched from the basic airbrush colors and parma colors. Had a lot of old stock that finally ran out and I dove right in ordering the majority of what was available. Thanks for the response. How do you deal with static electricity on polycarb once you start painting? I spray all kinds of plastics and polycarb seems to develop static charge very easily while working with it.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 года назад

      As discussed in the video, cleaning with soap & water helps reduce static electricity, as does wiping the car body with a water-based degreaser (for ex. PPG SX-394) or alcohol wipe. Additionally, using water-based Createx paints also helps eliminate static interference while painting. Thank you.

    I love your colors, I do have the pearls colors and fluorescent paints to. Do I use 4030 with them or can I also use the 4050? Or is that 4050 only for the candy2o colors?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 года назад +1

      Both 4030 and 4050 are "mixing clears", that is either works well mixed with Createx Airbrush Colors and Wicked colors when painting hard-surface. For airbrushing, both work well when added 10% per volume. 4030 is a bit thinner and won't require as much thinning compared to mixing color with 4050. 4030 is pretty good with Createx AB and Wicked Colors for airbrushing. For spray-gun application, 4050 is better compared to 4030. For candy2o, 4050 is better than 4030 for both airbrush and spray-gun application, especially when candy2o is applied as an even mid-coat over a metallic base. Since 4050 was introduced in 2020, we've not used 4030 with candy2o. Thank you.

    Does mixing with 4050 eliminate the need for 4040 bleed checker? Thanks for the tip about silver sealer. I have been having a difficult time spraying it with an airbrush. Would backing with chrome or aluminum cause the candy to pop more?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 года назад +4

      No, candy2o dyes will still leach into top-coated colors when candy2o is mixed with 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear, however, together with minimal thinning with 4011 Reducer, mixing with 4050 allows for much less leaching / bleeding of candy2o's dyes compared to mixing with 4030 Balancing Clear and / or thinning with 4012 Reducer. In regard to metallic effect, 6013 Silver Sealer is made with a blend of the same aluminum flakes as W354 Aluminum Medium & W356 Aluminum Coarse; 6013 Silver Sealer has fairly pronounced metallic effect for candy2o. W357 Quicksilver creates a vivid, brilliant effect we call Anodized Candy, candy2o.com/anodized-candy-colors. 6013 & W357 are each excellent base silvers for candy2o. The best way to compare the two is to make a test panel, or two, three or more. Testing candy/ pearl/ metallic base combinations is fun! Thank you.

    can every createx color adhere the the polycarbonate straight out of the bottle,or is the 4050 the adhesion promoter. So with normal colors, do you need the first layer to be 4050 for adhesion threu the hole polycarbonate rc body. Or do i need to scotch fine inside the body.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  Год назад +2

      candy2o has to be mixed with 4050, for every application, including polycarbonate. Other Createx paints do not HAVE to be mixed with 4050, but adhere, level, orientate better (pearls & metallics) and dry to a more durable coating compared to not adding 4050. Most artists don't use 4050 and the results are great, so long as the paint is allowed to dry in between coats and given extended dry time before taping. Scuffing the inside of the polycarbonate body is never required. Clean only. Use isopropyl alcohol and wipe with a lint-free rag. Allow the surface to thoroughly dry before applying paint. Thank you.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 года назад +2

      4011 Reducer is recommended anytime mixing Createx paints with 4030 Balancing Clear or 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear. 4012 Reducer should not be used to thin colors mixed with 4030 or 4050 as it may congeal the paint mix and doesn't promote flow as well as 4011 Reducer. Thank you.

  • @jtmoore42
    @jtmoore42 2 года назад

    If I don't add any reducer to the mixture how long can you keep the candy/4050 mixture stored in an airtight container?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 года назад +1

      Depends. Longer than the 48-hour period listed in the tech sheet. If kept air-tight in a bottle and only uncapped when paint is actually being poured from the bottle, a candy2o + 4050 mix should last several weeks if not longer, provided the bottle is kept out of direct light exposure and stored ~ 50 to 80 deg.F. Thank you.

    I don't understand why Createx requires all the mixing and sit times for the mixes, when something like Proline or FasKolor doesn't require any of that? I really want to like Createx for the color options, but the added crap one has to buy to use it over other RC specific paints doesn't make sense to me. Please explain.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  Год назад +1

      We make Proline and Faskolor. The additives we mention work for those colors too, improving adhesion and mar resistance. The candy2o featured in this video is a concentrated dye that has to be added to a carrier-medium. The recommended medium for adding concentrated candy2o dyes is 4050 UVLS Gloss Clear. How come you don't scuff the body first? I've been painting rc bodies for years using tamiya spray cans over a red scotch brite prepped surface. The only time the scuff shows is when trying to do chrome

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 года назад +1

      Createx paints have been used for RC car painting for over 25 years adhere excellent to polycarbonate without having to scuff. Additionally, the RC paints we make under private label can be applied to polycarbonate without scuffing. We've used RC car bodies for spray-out color samples sample since at least 1998, hundreds a year literally, and have never once scuffed the polycarbonate body for adhesion when reverse painting, or painting the top of the car body and top-coating the paint with a 2k gloss clear. What's important is cleaning the car body before paint to remove any mold release or other type of contaminant that could be on the plastic. Perhaps you've been using a solvent-based / spray-can paint? Solvent-based paint would do better with scuffing to prep for paint. Thank you.

    Hello Chris. Can you use anything other then silver sealer as a backer?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  2 года назад +1

      Yes, any metallic color can be used, however as most metallic and pearl colors are semi-opaque and if, for example, W360 Metallic White is used, then behind the Metallic White, 6001 AutoBorne Sealer White would be used as the final backing color so as to make an opaque backing color through which light will not pass. 6013 Silver Sealer, which is a sealer-primer, covers opaque making it an excellent backing color for candy2o as it adds metallic effect and is opaque so light will not pass through. Thank you.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  10 месяцев назад

      4050 UVLS Gloss Clear is a superior carrier-medium for candy2o compared to 4030 as 4050 holds candy2o's dyes uniform in suspension, which allows for color coats that are more even and have a higher color saturation compared to mixing with 4030. candy2o mixed with 4050 also cure to a more durable coating compared to mixing with 4030.
