Extar EP9 9mm Carbine : Impressive for Under $500

- Опубликовано: 15 май 2024
- The Extar EP9 is a 9mm Carbine that weights about 5 lbs and is budget priced but is a solid option. It's Glock magazine compatible and made in the USA. Honestly, this one surprised me. Big thanks to @GBGuns for his recommendation and @extarusa for sending the EP9 for the review. #ExtarEP9 #AR9
Big thanks to Fiocchi USA for Supplying our ammunition! @FiocchiUSA

HonestOutlaw reviewed the pistol version way back in the day and they could no longer keep them on the shelves. He's still putting rounds through the original.
Any gun of the Outlaw is a friend of mine
I have thousands and thousands of rounds through the original EP 9 and it’s run flawlessly. The only sign of wear is the shell deflector is getting really beat up.
Very informative review. Got me thinking.
Having record freezing temps in Texas! Fed the livestock, chipped the ice off their water, repaired a busted pipe, and had enough. Decided to drink coffee, warm up, and see a video. I would consider one of these as an extra-person arm on the ranch. Stick a red dot on it, pass out Glock mags, the person would be well armed. I might get one.
Oh really? I always thought that Texas was a very hot State.
@@joaopedrobaggio4475 3/4ths of the year that is true. We have three seasons: AFRICA HOT, HOT, and cool. We are in cool now. It will warm by Wed. and be moderately cool. I suspect the weather machine, HARP machine, whatever the cabal is doing is creating this anomaly of a weather event. It is smacking the middle of the country. From a weather perspective it makes zero sense.
From Texas here as well, be safe out there brother. Supposedly it'll be harsher Tuesday - Weds.
@@joaopedrobaggio4475a couple of years ago a cold front hit us so hard that our power-grid collapsed and many died from hypothermia and or exposure. Since then, having a prepper mindset and trust in God kept us going. It's not all year 'round but it can get severely cold in December - Feb for us.
Sitting in Illinois. Pipes are also frozen and dog won’t go out to pee it’s so cold. I hate winter.
🦅
I like hearing from Sarah. She’s been shooting a lot of guns with you over the years. Good to hear from her.
Thank you very much for this review. It seems that this Extar is a very nice, accurate, reliable and affordable PCC, which is very important for so many people on a budget. It may even be interesting to try it on an IPSC or an IDPA PCC match.
It is also quite interesting that you tested this PCC with an optic four times more expensive than the PCC itself.....
I've already decided to buy a PSA Jakl but seeing as how I have drums of 9mm this seems like a great rifle. Thank you for sharing!
They also made a 223/556 version with no buffer tube, very loud. The 9mm pistol version is awesome
I had picked up an EP-9 Braced Pistol and was really impressed, still in the family, younger brother really liked it so it got a new home!
I've got the braced pistol. I think it was $350 when I bought it. It has been great.
That is the price Chris at Honest Outlaw keeps mentioned in one or more of his videos. For some reason I thought it started at $400 or maybe around $430 before going to $450.
Got the pistol “braced” 9mm version almost 4 years ago. It’s been super reliable and fun to shoot. The charge handle doesn’t reciprocate on mine which I really like. The recoil pulse is definitely something you have to experience to understand.
I value Graham Bates's opinion. I know master Bates would not jerk us around, as he is a straight up, hands on kinda guy.
I see what you did there!
@alwong604 lol my thoughts exactly
I was having a difficult time concentrating on you field stripping the Extar 9mm Carbine with that AR with the wood furniture on the wall in the background.
Thanks for the shout-out! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I was blown away and like you had my doubts at first, but was proven wrong.
Honest Outlaw has been raving about his for years. So I bought one. Love it. Just a fun Lil rig.
The EP9 pistol is great--better than the carbine. There EP9 Carbine is an offering to get around the ATF brace rule but now that there is an injunction one can use a brace with the pistol version. I would recommend the pistol version over the carbine version with costs $50 more. Review from carbine buyer is that handguard is too short and too tall--does not allow C-clamp hold. Extar had to add mass to the bolt to deal with pressure difference with longer barrel so now the charging handle reciprocates. Long 16 barrel is just to avoid pistol and brace combo and is not needed for good HP bullet expansion and penetration.
I noticed they also have a "rifle conversion kit" for their EP9 pistol. It has gas vents on it to prevent chamber overpressure. Of course the pistol is still the best IMHO. The 45 version is just as nice.
@@JackofNothingess I never heard of this other than prior extremely long muzzle device they put on their pistols shortly after the final brace rule came out. I can't find what you are talking about on their webpage or elsewhere. Where did you see this?
@@raykettel1837 hmm it’s no longer in their website now. Interesting. I’m guessing since the carbine was released they removed the pin and welded rifle barrel kit.
Don't understand why Extar didn't put a longer handguard on it.
Ive heard the polymer picatinny has tendency to let scope/red dot move... Love GBs channel.
It has so many positives. I'm thinking this could be my 2nd pick. Thanks for your review 😊
I love that you break down all the guns you review
I dont think i've ever seen a bad review of any of Extars products. Want to get a pistol version someday.
Own the original and love it. The only issue I had was it had issues with Norma ammo. Anything else went flawless. They also have great customer service.
I too had issue with Norma ammo as did others. Norma was known for blowing a hole in the primer on the Extar EP9 and a few other direct blowback firearms. Extar even added warning to their FAQ.
Now I am interested to see the 45 model.
Extar's buffer tubes have always been proprietary, at least for all of the EP9's and EP45. They sell an adapter to make it mil-spec, but they don't come out of the box mil-spec.
My Only Complaint is The Reciprocating Charging Handle A Traditional AR-15 Charging Handle Would Be Great 😀😊😀
You must not know about the shoestring technique
Cool 9mm carbine thanks for sharing sootch00
I'm glad you always make sure to label Sarah Mac. I don't know how I'd do here, I always mix you up 😂
Down in the teens and then hasn't made it above 30 degrees in the Texas Hill Country. Got down to 6 degrees in my hometown in West Texas with plenty of high winds. I'd still rather be there than here.
Brother Sootch00’s opening jams are the best 🤘
Can't wait to get my hands on one and put it through its paces at the range!
Love the video content. Keep on doing what your doing. Will ha e to try the extor out
Great review Sootch! I am definitely getting one. I think I will put a Hiperfire Hipercomp on it. I love my EP9 pistol.
Looks sweet
I like how quiet it is. I might have to get one. Been wanting to add a carbine to my apocalypse gear.
Note that Extar does not have any kind of a positive OOB safety. They are helped by the deadblow weight in this regard, but there's no guarantee.
Looks good for the money
Will have to check this out when they are legal again in WA state.
Nothing against pistol caliber carbines, but i still prefer AR-15 and AK-47.
Wait wait ✋️ since when are they based in my city? I knew they were based in AZ, but I didn't know they were in Lake Havasu.

Don’t forget! Check out 327 Federal Magnum! It’s the best Snub Nose Revolver Cartridge on the Planet. It even chambers 32 ACP, 32 S&W and 32 H&R. They have higher capacity than most small Revolvers. They perform super well with Revolvers and Super Powerful out of a Lever Action Rifle! Check out 327 Fed Mag!
Honestly a shorter barrel and a supressor might help reduce recoil from the action.
Just needs a dual drum mag for the ultimate aesthetics 😂
Thanks
That barrel guard is F'ing HIDEOUS looking ...
Hi my friend, from cold Seattle and this warm gun cottage♥♥
Nice 👍🏾
Very cool. Liking that.
Did you do a video on the Remington model 700? If not, can you do one?
Interesting gun at a nice price… seems like a great value! My current PCC has a 5” barrel… what is the optimal barrel length for most 9 mm ammo?
If they have a 45 acp I would be interested. I checked out their site but didn't see one.
I want the extar 45 but after the 9mm got popular they stopped producing the 45
Go Extar!
I have the original version pistol with the brace. Sweet little gun and shoots great, very low cost, Glock mags.
I'd rather have something with an aluminum or steel reveiver.
The Marlin Camp 9 rifle fits that description.
There are other options lol. The camp 9 is like twice as heavy, twice as long, and over twice the price. *twice as long if you get the pistol version with brace.
The Marlin costs a lot more then the EP9 Carbine. I would recommend the EP9 pistol with a brace. 9mm does not need such a long barrel to perform as intended. I follow the Extar group on Reddit and no one has reported any issues with receiver itself. It is very durable. Honest Outlaw channel has mentioned the EP9 in many reviews with no durability or reliability issues.
@@raykettel1837 not to mention who is using a Marlin or an Extar for self defense? Both of them can be used for fun and yes you COULD use the Marlin or Extar for SD but no one in their right mind would unless that was their only weapon. Like I said, there are far more better options for the same 1k price of a 9mm Marlin. Thank you for your input.
Have you tried running the EP9 mags in Glock pistols? Two-way compatibility would be great.
The EXTAR EM9 magazines work no problem. I've used it in my Keltec S2K and it runs fine, and fits the dagger no problem.
Best part about their in-house mags : they can be had for as low as 10-11 bucks each.
I love the Faux AC/DC style cheesy music! 😂😂😂
Got a link for the Mini ACOG?
A lot of people with time to watch videos today
It’s MLK Day. Plus there’s probably some Snow Days happening.😉
@@lesliepaulkovacs6442I'm white as can be and celebrate MLK day so I can sit at home do illegal shit and get paid to do it 😂.
Heya! What handguards are those that you installed on the ends there? :)
I would like to see a review of the Gibbz PPC please.
I’ll bet you would but this is cheaper to shoot and WILL do the job depending upon the operator.
Love the ACOG on it 😂
Yeah, me too. I'm a big fan.
Sarah .... talks? :O :O :O
It's fun $500 rueful use $1000 scoop
Do they have one that takes a Canik TP9 magazine?
The lack of weight at the front hinders the recoil, it could be a laser if it was more front heavy
Do you have a link to the speed loader?
Do they make it in 10 mm?
👍🇺🇸
Can you put irons on it out near the muzzle?
They have a pcc too....
Check it out
Always cracks me up when people throw an optic on a gun that costs 3X as much as the firearm itself. Lol
dumb question does it come with the scope?
Are Sportsman guide still your sponsor????code didn’t work on recent purchase
At 15:06 you said the firing pin is spring loaded, and keeps from slam fires (on 9mms). Could you explain more in depth about that? How does a spring keep a pin from slam firing?
Every time the bolt cycles, the firing pin has too much inertia to keep it from hitting the primer hard. So the spring holds it to the rear until the hammer hits it. Which will then set off the round.
Folding stock would be great.
Cant they make things smaller for 9mm .
EXTAR has the EP9 6.5in Barrel pistol. That one is very nice to run!
This is not GTW gun because it is made of polymer, yet the Glock and SCAR are perfectly fine? If the part is engineered properly for the materials, then there is nothing wrong with polymers! All the mighty power of the 9mm is taken up by the barrel chamber and a massive bolt, both steel. That recoil buffer looks like the original design for the AR15.
🙏🏽🦅🇺🇲
Interesting that the carbine has a reciprocating charging handle and the pistol version does not!
Run it stock.
Why double the price with alterations?
That handguard looks to be way too thick. I understand the height due to the height of the receiver, but still.
My .308 recoils less 😂
Damm the SBR regulations!!! The Extar with a 6+ inches barrel made a lot of sense, this 16inch version doesn’t!
Makes alot of sense because you get more velocity out of the round during its usage. More accessibility with the longer barrel.
You can still get the pistol version and use a brace.
@@XX-166Nah, 8 inches is all it needs to get optimum velocity out of 9mm! But this is „axed“ by these SBR Regulations!
@@BillHimmel the longer the barrel the more spin and velocity, there are no SBR regulations to worry and cry about.
Are you talking about a specific state law, or Federal? For Federal, what's not reasonable about? You have to pay a couple hundred extra for bg check and fill out some extra forms.
Great gun, i just dont care for the aesthetics of it.... Maybe with a barrel shroud?
First time so many ads on a video
I understand why everyone is making PCCs which take Glock magazines, but it's actually kind of a poor compromise. One of the advantages of a carbine over a pistol is a larger-capacity magazine and 30+ round Glock magazines suffer in reliability. It's inherent in the double-stack, single-feed design. I don't own a Glock and I never will, so for me, there's no advantage a carbine that feeds from a Glock mag. I'll stick with my old-school double-stack, double-feed PCC, thanks. Otherwise, it's kind of a cool carbine.
I have some ETS magazines for mine and they work great.
I hate to say it but you need to shoot the pistol version! Not the same as the carbine. That big weight in top of the bolt is not there and the charging handle does not reciprocate. Totally differant feel. That carbine bounces around alot, not so the pistol version. I have shot both and the pistol is much more fun to shoot. You NEED to try the pistol version to see why the gun gets such good reviews. No lie.
All this talk of recoil on the shoulder. It's 9mm, not a 12ga lol. Suck it up folks
It looks like something made by HiPoint
Hipoint makes one too that functions exactly the same.and it's cheaper with lifetime warranty.
The hipoint doesn't take glock mags. The glock mags make this a much better option. Lots of capacity options and glock mags run. Hipoint mags...not so much... Also the Extar uses lots of AR15 compatable parts so you can upgrade if you want. Hipoint....not so much.
The hipoint company also has higher capacity mags and they're afordable as well.
Mmm hi point 2.0 it is what it is
Sweet!!! Another 9 mil that shoots with .380 velocities haha 😂🤷♂️ why?? Anything over 10 inches and your just ruining the round Lol
Would like to see it with some flip up sights 🫡
This carbine reminds me of a female, it moves in so many directions at the same time. You claim it's controllable, but I don't see it.
That handguard is TOO ugly 🤦♂️
Yea its HIDEOUS looking, WTF where they thinking
Just toy in rifle wraps
Get want you want all guns are welcome. But pcc have no purpose.
When your optic costs more than your gun lol
I was told by Extar when I called about adding an AR folding stock adapter the buffer tube is proprietary so it won't work with those parts.
