The "Stay Lifejacket" thing at the end was fun! Don't be embarrassed! Your story reflects a ton compared to mine actually. While I never "hated" the fandom, I was deeply petrified about what my friends and family would think about me if they had found out. When I finally took that "leap of faith", I was amazed to find out that many of my friends and family didn't think it was such a big deal. They see me as a creative individual by default, they just figured this was an outlet. There were some that made fun of me at first, but when they found out that it didn't phase me, they left it alone. Keep doing kickass bud, hope you surpass that 30k and even get into the 40s and more! Thanks for being awesome! *Epic dragon hugs*

Then I found your “7 levels of being a Furry: Dante’s edition” video, and then I slowly began accepting that I’m a furry
Fast forward to now. I’m a level 3 furry (haven’t been to a con, and I don’t think fursuits would be good for me, due to me having trouble dealing with heat), I have a “few” furries that I admire, and being a furry is something I’ve fully accepted
I have been in the fandom for a few years, only recent i was active as in actually joining in activities, however soon i got a job and got friendly with a co worker he found out through digging ( didnt help i invited him over) and now every day i get picked on and/or teased i ignore it and occasionally make a jokes about myself to cope. Note to self do backround checks before letting people in.

@Blue Angel2.0 My comment was supposed to be kind of a joke. It's hard to convey that through text, so I guess I should have clarified. This was my path to the fandom, but I realize it's a lot more than that. At the same time, there's a lot of polls that say most furries do like the erotic side of the fandom. And really there's nothing wrong with that. Anything consensual doesn't hurt anyone, and that's the only thing I like. So we should just be more open about who we are. Fuck the haters.
But yeah, I guess sex kinda overshadows the fandom. Furries are mostly cool, really accepting people who welcome just about anyone. We're way ahead of the curve when it comes to sexuality and gender (as a pansexual genderqueer individual I really appreciate that). And that's kinda why I put the "stay for the awesome people, culture and cuteness" part. I'm really weird and pretty much every furry I've talked with is totally cool with it. I guess what I'm saying is that there's nothing wrong with the sexual side of the fandom. And if you're into it you should be honest and open about it because this fandom won't ostracize you for it. However, not everyone is as cool as your fellow furries. Stay hidden among the normies if you have to, but know that most fuzzballs will accept you for who you are.
...I mean I consent to get involved in that kind of thing. As long as my partner is into it I'm up for just about anything ;). And I'll have you know I get off to a lot of different things.

This is how I became a furry
I already liked the content of furry stuff
One day in 2017, I was browsing youtube. And then I realized there was a whole damn community of people like this. Second I found out about that, I was in.
I originally found it when I heard about some of the more sexual parts of the fandom when i was a smol innocent bean, but then I saw a fursuiting video and was like "oh hey that isn't sexual maybe furries aren't bad" and then I just kinda... slowly drifted into the fandom.
When I was younger, I played a lot of Star Fox on the SNES. I looked for the sprite sheets later because I liked the color palette, and thought it would be good for a small piece of abstract art I was making. I found sprite sheets, as well as art, and then I looked around a little more and boom, I'm a furry.

A genuine insider opinion was not exactly the easiest thing to find, but I found myself on this video a month later. I found the fandom when I got into motocross.
I was looking into getting gear so I googled "Fox suit" and I kept getting furry results.
It's a lot like radiation. A little exposure here and there and next thing you know, cancer.
A lot of the times in the recent while that I’ve started to watch your videos, I’m starting to notice that you almost have two distinct, clashing personalities: one is your logical and sarcastic side which is most present in your videos, and one is your more affectionate and wholesome side that comes out when you talk about something you find adorable. I think I relate to this more than anything you even said in this video.
Haha I found it from the warrior cats fandom because they made ocs and fursonas and that got me in to it. I really think fursuits ate super cool but I highly doubt I will ever make one. I make art for it I guess but it isn't like fully furry stuff. Idk. I just really like furries haha

I found it the naughty way at age 11. Thought it was supper weird, but kept being drawn back to it, even though it made me feel super shamfull. Now at age 27 my interests in the fandom have broadend while I've become less self critical and I'm finally feeling ready to come out of the furry closet and hopefully check out a con some day. Though I regret not having the self acceptance to come out sooner

Awesome story, man. I remember my first con experience from last year, (FC2017) and how it solidified my love for the fandom. People I met there were so friendly, it was a great experience going somewhere I’d never been to, and instead of having PCD, I returned home with fond memories and photos to look back on

Stumbled across e621 once, saw negative portrayals across the media, became a brony circa 2012, realized I love every movie that involves talking animals, watched zootopia, loved the bunny, went back to e621, identify as a furry today especially on Twitter

This is nice! I know a little bit about furries and there fandom. And I know that I’m not a furry but knowing the people about what they love to do just for fun or anything else is always nice to just be them. I don’t get it either why people are mad about them. But I know that who ever reads this comment and realize that it’s just them, you just have to accept it and move on. It’s like the old saying: “If you can’t beat them, don’t worry too much, or join them”

Personally I started out as a brony because I had friends talking about the show and I was like "Why the heck are people talking about this kids show" I get curious and look up a video or two and it went from there. After about 5 years or being a brony I got bored of it and back into pokemon where I switch into the pokefur community when X and Y came out and decided to give it a second chance. I make a Pokemon OC and it goes from there. Ive gotten a lot more art of my pokemon OC than my Pony OC in the one year I've been apart of it plus its a lot more fun. As far as furry fandom goes in general, Id say im like level 3 or 4. I dont plan on getting a fursuit but plushies and art (NSFW and SFW) and cool fur friends are what im really here for.

i found the fandom through speedpaints- i used to be a huge fan of warriors and a fursona speedpaint kept popping up in my reccomended. and then i looked up fursona and a video by furmedia popped up on how to make an original fursona
and thus began my decent into hell.

This is how I found the furry fandom. I was very depressed, shy, but I did a lot of art and that kept all the depression away. When I started digital art and posted it, I got really bashed on. But i was also really good at anthros in my opinion and was looking at dogs when I found a person wearing a mascot costume and I was like.. holy crap that looks great! so I clicked on it and looked me to a page called fur affinity which the page was autumn fallings "fursuit". I looked deeper and learn all you need and also don't need to know. Im planning to go to califur or FC next year since a few weeks ago, my best friend made me a suit of my male fursona, Bo the demon spotted hyena.

Dude I've only seen two videos so far and I love it I love what you doing keep it up brother I'm a furry myself I've been a furry for about 10 years although I still consider myself new to the fandom because I haven't really gone that far into it but I love you videos and I'm starting to dive more and more into it and find more more RUclipsrs to really find out what being a furry means and this video kind of explains some of that thank you really thank you
If it weren't for the furry fandom I might not be alive right now. Because of them I actually had people who truly cared about me when I had none irl. They got me through the hardest time in my life where I nearly took my own life because it felt like everyone was against me, except for my furry friends online.
How I found the fandom was watching videos of them on youtube, and I was cool with it. 2 years later I was so obsessed with the art and fursonas, when I watched a video about how to tell if your a furry I joined the fandom after the video. Thank you furries, for helping me and other young furs find who they are, and make a hobby into a job or lovely art. Thank you furry fandom for... well, every thing this fandom has become. I wouldn't be sure of who I am, where I'm at, and where my road was going to go. You furries young and old helped create something amazing out of a hobby, and giving some a boost of hope and confidence along the way.
I honestly was forced into a fursuit by a friend while over at their place and I've never been the same since..

What a big conversion you phased through like there was no wall of doubts at all. I mean you first started at the point of hating the fandom because you had no reason (probably the impulsive feelings of fitting into the community) and you haven’t learned what they are all about. It’s really rare to find people’s own stories going through another phase from a bad karma ,for example ,then zip! All the way to good karma. My thought on the video is how you got into the fandom through *clicks tongue* which stills surprise me because I never heard people gotten into a fandom like that and I joined since I watched the inspiring song to yrT gniyrevE.
I actually found it through my big sister. She had a fursona, and sell her own art. I started getting into the fandom and started drawing anthros. Then, my sister gave me a fursuit that she won at a raffle. I made a fursona out of it, and now here I am. Bluejay the Wolf!! :D
I found it through some TaleSpin fanfiction and fanart in 2005 when I was in college, but I didn't join or become actively involved until late 2016.
Sometimes I wish I'd joined in sooner, but the past 3 or so years I've made amazing new friends and traveled halfway around the world to hang out with them on several occasions. I've made a priority of going to Eurofurence every year and some of my closest friends, as well as my boyfriend, are all people I've met through the fandom. Wouldn't give it up for the world.

I’m kinda in that paradox stage you were describing and i’m still unsure about the fandom and ironically my friends are hardcore furry haters though I’m only fifteen I’m not sure where to go from here but I was introduced into this fandom by a garrys mod server (which is quite popular rn) and I’ve meet some curious individuals if you do take the time to respond back or direct me to someone to talk to I appreciate it (I hope this isn’t too annoying)
I found it by sheer accident after not having internet until I was 17. Even then, it took three more years, with the third year being whee I had a fursona before even knowing what a fursona was. And I only wish I was able to say I had that many people supporting me and helping me back then. You're so lucky!

This was a really cute video. I found out about the fandom my 6th grade year, the same year that I got into FNAF. I was watching a Fnaf video and there was a hater making fun of the game and saying "anyone who likes these games are a furry." I did my research and by the end of my 8th grade year I became part of the fandom. I am a Junior in high school right now and is loving this fandom and does not plan on leaving. (Just saying, I am not really into fnaf anymore.)
this is a really good video, I had always loved Furry movies and cartoons like The Lion King, the fox and the hound, the Swat kats, among others, though, I only really learned what a furry is while I was in the Job Corps, a career training facility, a friend of mine, Michael told my sister and I all about it, though, I guess I really only joined last year, or two years ago after watching youtube furs like odinwolf, majira strawberry, skye cabbit, zabu the sergal nos hyena, and Beta, the furry fandom is definitely a wonderful fandom filled with awesome people. :3
